I called to inquire about hiring an attorney. As a recent law office receptionist myself, I know how crucial professionalism is . A receptionist is the law firm's first appearance. Marie or Maria picked up the call...It was very apparent that she had just woken up . She sounded confused at first. I asked about the office and how to schedule a consultation. I asked if there was someone who spoke Spanish to which she replied "YES" very sarcastically. I asked about hiring an attorney to represent my friend in court and hoped for the possibility that he did not have to appear due to his work schedule. She went ahead and said "Your friend has to appear in court, it's not like the attorney can go by himself" ....I am not sure why she thought that answer was correct considering she is not the attorney and she does not know the details of the matter. Regardless, I asked to schedule a consult. She told me that I had to give her a call in two hours. I asked why and she was silent for about a minute and then proceeded to say "because my system is updating.".. Not sure why she didn't think of maybe grabbing a piece of paper and writing down my info or SHE be the one to offer to give me a call . I stayed quiet after she told me that and she followed with "Can you call be back in two hours yes or no...or is that an issue?" ... I let her know that was certainly an issue, I wanted to receive service at the time of my call and honestly after the whole conversation and the lack of professionalism from her part, I thought it was best if I seeked service elsewhere. This review is not against the attorneys at this firm , it is to make it known to Maria or Marie, that sleeping on the job is absolutely ridiculous. Working at a law firm means being ready to serve clients who are in need of help. Picking up the phone with a great attitude and being empathetic when needed. I loved my job as a law receptionist and it saddens me to know that this firm might be losing a lot of potential clients due to this receptionist's lack of professionalism.

Working with Jennie was an amazing experience! We had established a trust nearly 25 years ago, which was in definite need of an update. This was one of those things we kept intending to do, but never quite seemed to get around to it. After our referral to Jennie, we decided to get to work on updating our estate planning, imagining this project was going to be time-consuming, overwhelming, and stressful. It was quite the opposite! Jennie made the entire experience a pleasant one from beginning to end. Her warm and friendly personality put us at ease right away as she answered our many questions. Jennie is highly organized and communicated with us promptly each step of the way so that we could complete this task easily and in a timely manner. Jennie Carter helped me in several ways: First, she helped me by agreeing to engage with me as my attorney and by acknowledging me for what I had already accomplished before I engaged her, as well as encouraging and supporting me, calming down any fears and/or concerns that I had. She did this in all of our interactions. The above is extremely important as well as her looking over a Valid Probate Settlement Agreement that I needed assistance with because prior to Jennie agreeing to become my attorney I had been attempting to obtain one who would work for and with me for six months. I had called, left messages, wrote out on-line questions and answers, went in person to attorneys' offices to at least 90 different legal entities, law schools, legal agencies, private solo attorneys, big Legal attorney firms, etc. to no avail. Many would not even return my calls, weren't accepting new clients, didn't do the type of representation that I needed, wanted to charge me thousands of dollars for items that I didn't want or need to do. It was a very frustrating, angering, saddening, dejecting, rejecting process for me. I was at my wits end as to where and who I could or should turn to next when I got the Valid Probate Settlement Agreement. Especially since I had been calling, etc. all over Topeka, Lawrence and even some in the Kansas City, Ks and Mo areas. Once I obtained Jennie as my attorney my life and I calmed down. I didn't have to face each day knowing that I had to keep going through every means of communication possible to obtain an attorney. Plus, as stated above it was calming and peaceful to me knowing that I had someone on my side supporting and representing me who knew the Probate laws, procedures, etc. Jennie further demonstrated the above through how she handled the Valid Probate Settlement Agreement with and for me. She gave me her overall professional, expert legal opinion of it and whether or not it was favorable to me or not, answered questions over items that I had related to it, provided a written list of items that she felt that I should include in my next interaction with my brother's attorney as well as explained the Probate Hearing Procedures Process and other Probate items that I had questions about. I see Jennie as a very competent, straightforward, honest, supportive, patient, informative, professional attorney and person who I felt really cared about my legal Valid Probate Settlement Agreement matter and myself and one who would go out of her way if needed to assist me. She did call me back promptly if I needed her to due to the urgency of an upcoming Court Hearing. This promptness left me feeling important and valued as well as my concerns, questions, etc. Finally, I felt that she helps people like me by weighing and listening to what had happened in my search to obtain an attorney, what it was that I wanted her to assist me with, by being non-judgmental and being very clear, specific and direct as to what services that she would provide and the exact costs for these services and for additional services and/or her time if needed. Words will never be able to express my deep appreciation and gratitude for who Jennie was for me as an attorney and person as well as for the services and everything that she provided for me. Steve and his team were assigned to my high conflict custody case to help resolve the constant court hearings, and filings from the other parent. They helped bring the case to a civil standpoint and show the truth through all of the harassing messages, and court filings. When our previous attorney retired, we didn't think we needed to look for his replacement right away but life isn't always predictable. We met with Steve to rework our estate planning which included selling our farm house and acreage, recognizing a legal and safe way to handle our trust, and how to pass our assets on to our teenage boys as they mature into adulthood. He was clear, easy to understand, and gave us options that fit our goals and values. Along the way, I mentioned that my mom needed to update her 30 year old will and that we needed to designate a financial POA and a health POA for her. He asked about my dad, who has been deceased for years. He pointed out that my mom could receive some benefits from his service in the Korean War if she had medical need - and she most certainly does. In fact, due to my mom's limited mobility, Steve helped met her where she felt most comfortable. Thanks to Steve, we have our trust redefined as needed, mom's will and POAs taken care of, and another resource to help my mom as she approaches 90.

He represented me in a business lawsuit in which he displayed terrible communication, utter lack of knowledge, no courtroom skills, and a focus on not saying anything that might annoy the judge. He had his Kansas law license suspended in November 2020, and his Missouri license suspect after that. He is only good at promptly sending outrageous bills. Avoid at all costs.

I have known Mark since 1985 and seen his dedication to his clients and his cases consistently in all of those years. As his client you need not worry about offensive large firm hourly rates to pay for their over-the-top luxuries, or being moved to other attorneys or paralegals with less experience. He has never needed to advertise, and is extremely self-sufficient and responsible, beyond the call of duty. You will be fortunate to be his client.

The Denning Law Firm represented our family in a case resulting from the death of our father at a nursing home. We often would have concerns about the case that would arise numerous times a week, Paeten and Willie always addressed those issues in a professional, friendly manner. We were kept well informed with every step of the process as well as any issues that emerged. Throughout my experience of having worked with other lawyers in the past, I had often felt undervalued as a client. This was not the case with Paeten and Willie Denning. Sometimes it seems that with larger firms I got lost in the crowd or pushed to settle quickly, this was never the case with the Denning Law firm. Our family was always provided guidance but never pushed in a direction that we were uncomfortable with. To the contrary, we felt that our family’s desired outcome was the only one that mattered.
