Just ran across Terry's page and would have to say I worked for another attorney in town and loved it. But, in her line of practice, she is ultimately the best. She reviewed my case 11 years ago and went to the appeals judge with me.I was approved for SSA within a few weeks and had applied 157 days before I was recommended to try her. Needless to say, anyone who I come across that needs an attorney in her line of practice, she is the only one I would ever recommend to all Thanks again Terri.... I really appreciate your help and advice with my difficult case. You really did a smooth and firm approach. Kristin Carr (2013) MY NAME AT THAT TIME...

This will be the second time I hire the Fontes Law Group in Santa Ana. I live in Miami, work in Spain, and I’m from Houston and researched intensely on many immigration law firms and hands down they are the best. I’m incredibly grateful for the attention to detail and diligence. I’m also grateful to Veronica Levya for her patience and professionalism. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

David approached my workmen’s compensation case with sensitivity through the initial first phase of the workmens compensation deposition process He also returned phone calls from me during the first phase and year of opening and working on my case. But he appeared to lack sound legal analytical skills to settle my case with best possible outcome and seemed preoccupied with his own salary and amount of money he would be making on my case. When the agreement he made with my employers lawyer changed to his detriment and they lowered the amount of my settlement I still often saw David laughing with my employers lawyers in rooms in Oakland workmen’s compensation building when I went looking for him as I would often be kept waiting 2-3 hours during settlement talks. He clearly had camaraderie with my employers lawyers but seemed most concerned with being liked by my employers lawyer and kept telling me what a decent person my employers lawyer seemed to be. David seemed to be naive regarding my case. David seemed most upset when I advocated for myself and received a large medicare set aside amount. Attorneys do not receive a percentage with MSA’s. He seemed to lack expertise in this process. I am a licensed clinical social worker who knew what to do to receive a medicare set aside of over $50,000 for future treatment since I also applied for and received social security on my own for a prior work injury. David again seemed to like basic skills regarding social security application process but again I was able to advocate for myself and receive social security in a short amount of time. I would not see this attorney unless you do not mind a small settlement. Again David likes to be liked and get along with everybody as his priority. He seems however to lack shrewdness. He does not appear to have sound legal analytical skills although he means well.

Didn't have the best experience with Troy, at my first appointment with Troy he told me even though I'm clearly disabled my case was not strong enough for him to take on, however he told me there were steps I could take to make my case strong enough, I asked him what those steps were he told me. I began those steps, which took a couple months (all this time I could have been looking for other representation). While doing these steps I tried to keep in touch with his assistant Julian to know exactly what Mr Monge wanted, after getting all those things Mr Monge decides to tell me he still won't represent me. So he basically wasted a lot of my time, now I have less than 2 months to find representation, that's a really bad way of doing business in my opinion, it's so hard for me to go places and do things also, the things he asked me to do were not easy with my conditions, it's as if he doesn't even care.

Mr. Monge was personable and very well versed in social security disability. He was very patient and detailed in explaining the process and in review of my specific case details. He usually provided answers to my questions before I asked them. He took my phone calls and always got back to me if I missed him. He kept me updated throughout the process and called if something definitive came through along the way. Most importantly, we won!

This law firm does not see the lawyers themselves at all, they are all Chinese employees (they are not lawyers) handling cases, my child was injured and fractured while going to school at the home of Teacher Chen (Taiwanese women are not teachers pretending to be teachers) in Luogang School District, 06/06/ In 2022, I entrusted Scott Warmuth Law Firm to represent the child's case. At that time, I appointed a lawyer named ERIC JOHNSON (later, I inquired from the California Bar Association that he was qualified as a California lawyer in March 2022). I found it on www.avvo.com The lawyer with the same name who has practiced for more than 20 years thought it was this lawyer and agreed to use this lawyer, but I have never met one person since I entered the law firm, and I have never given any legal advice. It is all Chinese employees who provide legal advice (according to US regulations, non-lawyers are not all provide legal advice), I suspect that the signatures of the contract lawyers are all fake. The child’s treatment has not yet ended, and I have to ask how much the medical expenses will be. In September, I will pay them the medical expenses, and one of their Chinese employees will handle the case. Said that he would not represent my child’s case anymore. Said he sent us a notification letter. My receiving address was normal, but I didn’t receive the letter. Later, I asked him to send an email. I saw that the date was early August, and the signature was signed. The lawyer is not the original lawyer. I don’t know if it was signed by a Chinese employee. I was delayed for a month and I didn’t call to inform me why it was not the same lawyer. The answer is that they have many lawyers! The case can be given to any lawyer, and I have never seen it. Such a bad law firm, everyone looking for a lawyer must see the lawyer himself, don't ask a Chinese manager to handle the case!

When I use the words compassionate empathetic concerning trustworthy considerate respectful it's hard to believe those adjectives whatever describe an attorney however the attorney I spoke with at Gitterman and Gitterman, Julio Del Carmen, not only deserves those colorful adjectives but so many more that parallel their meaning. Without a thought to his own time and with out interest in obtaining another case he educated me on workman's comp in ways that I've never yet knew not even my own attorney discussed any of this with me. I contacted him to replace my attorney for the same reasons many people do no communication however Mr Carmen took at least an hour of his own time and diligently and in very kind and proper language that I could understand helped me to understand what I was going through and when I was through he advised that I keep my attorney he was not trying to gain an attorney by bad mouthing anybody this person is genuine. After he spend his time with me I felt much more comfortable with my own attorney and knew that he was just going through his procedures. And while I would have enjoyed having Mr Carmen as representation I would not hesitate to seek out Mr Carmen should I at any time in the future need legal representation of which is an expert in. in short it is a pleasure to know that there are people like Mr Carmen in this profession and not only in the profession but sharing the Earth with other people we need more like Mr Carmen. With great respect I thank you very much for hearing my review. Respectfully Krista Ling Ling

*Disappointing Experience with Roy Yang Law Office- Lack of Communication and Unprofessional Service* I'm extremely dissatisfied with Roy Yang's Law Office handling of my workers' compensation case. Despite hiring them 7 months ago, I've experienced chronic communication issues and unprofessional service. Key concerns: - *Ignored emails*: Multiple messages regarding my case have gone unanswered. - *Lack of preparation*: No one briefed me on what to expect for my recent QME (Qualified Medical Evaluation). - *Missed appointments*: A phone appointment was scheduled without notification, and I only discovered it by calling the firm. - *Unhelpful staff*: When I do reach someone, I'm made to feel like a burden or an inconvenience. Given my frustrating experience, I question the authenticity of positive reviews. I advise others to exercise caution when considering Roy Yang for legal representation.

Roopen Parekh is a stellar attorney. Because of him my case was successful. He knew exactly how to proceed with my particular case. Roopen was attentive to detail and supportive throughout the process. His prep work left me feeling prepared and ready to testify. Roopens presentation of the case clearly met with the judge’s approval. I highly recommend him for anyone who needs help with a disability or social security case. I know he is the best in his field. Roopen Parekh is hands down the best attorney I could have ever hoped for. Going before the judge, he explained my case better than I ever could have. He summed up all of my ailments, issues, concerns etc all in his opening comments. He knew what, when and how to say everything spot on. I understood why you must hire an attorney. I got it. He represented me better than I ever could have imagined. I can also tell he is very well respected in his field by the rapport he had with the court. THIS IS THE GUY YOU WANT REPRESENTING YOU!! Siles and Foster, P.C. is the best worker’s compensation attorney office. This is the second time I have used Steve Foster to represent me in my worker’s compensation case. Unfortunately, I was reinjured at work and immediately knew that I would choose Siles and Foster Law Office to represent me again. From our first meeting, he explained everything to me in terms I could easily understand and was always very responsive when I had questions outside of our meetings and got back to me quickly. His administrative staff, especially Tabitha, was always friendly and never made me feel like she was in a rush. She was knowledgeable and would find out the answers quickly if she was unsure. When you get injured, worker’s compensation can be a nightmare and be very confusing. The firm helped navigate the insurance company and get doctors that cared about my well-being. If anyone is looking for a knowledgeable attorney that is respectful and knows how to fight for his client, Steve Foster is the right choice. His legal representation restored my faith in the justice system. I highly recommend and will work with this law office again. Thanks, team! Dan H.

Idk how this man and his wonderful staff get it all done so well with such little time in the day. I have referred many people to his office and they all have been grateful that they appointed him. He is also very thorough and will be making sure you do what is necessary to make sure your case is strong and is honest and asks the same of you. He goes above and beyond to explain it all to you and cares about his work and knows it effects people's lives and takes that seriously. All social security attorneys get paid the same fees but not all work as hard as Mr. Bartholomew and his staff. They give it to you straight and don't sugar coat it. Cases go through a lot of steps and take time in the courts, so there's no instant gratification and require patience through the process. He knows the process and is very knowledgeable about the law and is a good person that you can trust to guide you through to winning your case and improving your life. No regrets.

As someone who has personal experience with this office, please do not go here with your SSI case. Once you sign an agreement with them, the communication stops. I would call asking questions about my case and never get a call back. As someone who now understands this process, here are some practical words of advice. 1. Go to Health and Human Services and get a free list of all of the local advocates. 2. Do not hire an attorney unless you have already been denied and are waiting for a hearing with the judge. 3. If you are not due for a hearing yet, Heath and Human Services has people who will help you for FREE that are awesome. 4. If you are the advocate for a disabled person, never let them go into this office alone. Once paperwork is signed, you are stuck with Mr. Bartholomew. The SSI process takes time, but do yourself a favor and do not allow this office to represent you! For further evidence, take the time to read what he says about the people who give him a bad review. I think that says a great deal about the character of this man.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Margarita for my estate planning needs, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. From the outset, the team was incredibly professional, making me feel both valued and heard. Their expertise in estate planning was evident as they guided me through complex legal processes with ease and clarity, ensuring I fully understood every step. What sets the firm apart is their attention to detail and the personalized approach they take to understand my unique situation. They were not only interested in the legal aspects but also took the time to consider my personal and family needs, making the entire process seamless and stress-free. Margaritas communication was exceptional, providing timely updates and always being available to answer any questions I had. It was clear that my best interests were her top priority, and she went above and beyond to ensure my estate planning was tailored perfectly to my needs. The peace of mind I have now, knowing that my estate is in order, is invaluable. I am truly grateful for the dedication and care this office showed throughout my estate planning process. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking thorough, compassionate, and expert estate planning services.

Margarita was supposed to be my Social Security attorney. We signed a contract stating she would be paid when I get approved, out of my back pay. This is standard and normal for Social Security attorneys. Margarita repeatedly used the fact that she hadn't yet been paid as an excuse to not do her job. She is very incompetent, continuously told me to contact Social Security directly even though when you have an attorney, they aren't allowed to speak directly to you and must go through your attorney! She also refused to help me get an appointment rescheduled because she just didn't think that having a previously scheduled appointment at the same time was a "good enough reason" to request a reschedule. When confronted about her incompetence, she just decides to drop the client, because she also lacks integrity. I'm happy to have found much better representation. ETA: Never screamed at or called anyone anything until after I'd already decided to leave, when Margarita's only and immediate response to being told she isn't doing something right was to end the contract.

I hired David because he seemed to know how to help with our custody case. Well he gave me a complete lie about what he was doing? We had a court hearing over the phone that he told us not to attend, saying there was no reason for it. It's just confirmation about going to court. During this hearing the judge ruled against the defendent and the defendent would not be granted overnights and nothing of overnighta could be adressed in the trial because he was denied and the right paperwork is to be submitted by the the defendent for his overnights to begin, this attorney didn't even notify us. And 3 days later we went to trial unknowingly, Where he questioned the defendent who committed perjury on the stand, because if David had done his job he would of found the paperwork confirming this. And then without notification to the the plaintiff he was representing he gave the defendent the start of overnights. The defendent in our case was to undergo physchiatric help which never happened. Then he was giving 2 overnights causing our case to fumble and the father finally being granted 50/50 since he didn't even defend the false allegations against the plaintiff. I gave this man over 15000 dollars to be ripped off. And lose the child.

It seems that there has been a change for the worse at Edward Singer's law firm. Previously, when I called his office, there was always someone to help me. Now, his people seem to be in their own silos. I would speak to someone at the firm about scheduling a meeting and then ask a question about my case. The scheduler tells me to speak to someone else even though he/she could easily answer my question (and had done so in the past). It seems they now have a "not my job" attitude. It feels like I'm being given the "run-around". When I call the second person, she's not available and I have to explain the whole thing over again.

Phone consultation with Ed was helpful. The W/C system is complex and moves at a glacial pace. Establish a good rapport with the paralegal staff as most of the communication will be with them. Direct contact with Ed will be initially, at important milestones in your case and at the settlement face. That's how the journey on this long and lonely road goes. This applies to most cases and attorneys. Much Luck!

I found Ghitterman, Ghitterman & Feld about 5 years ago when the law firm that was representing our son literally dropped the ball with a workmans comp. Case. They took right over and got us the results that we needed for our son. Our situation is different than normal where ours is a 3 case situation. We settled the first case which was the workman's comp case and we were very pleased with the results. We have just settled the 2nd case which we initially believed was not going to be a case, but we are now waiting for a settlement check in the mail and very, very pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Last case is in the works and I have no doubt that we will get the results we hope for on this one as well. They made us feel heard, included us in all steps and decisions and fought hard for us as their clients. 5 STAR SERVICE AND REPRESENTATION all the way. Thank you Ghitterman, Ghitterman & Feld for all you've done and continue to do for our son.

Worst communication from this legal team. I felt like I had to request information over and over again. I’m still waiting on information. I called and messaged them with no reply. I’m almost certain my case is nearly done but they’ve told me nothing.

Talked to the assistant only when I requested to be contacted via e-mail. Lots of irrelevant questions to be told later that the case does not interest them; it's not a big $$$ case hence the turn down.

Competent crew carried my case to a win without a glitch. My case manager Kim "Kimberly Neal" was proficient & expeditious throughout and it took 6 short months to get my SSDI approval on the very first try. Can't get any better than that. Hats off to Mr. Johnson & his courteous front desk staff also. All around real nice. THANKS

Mr. Shore was able to secure a ssi and ssdi award for me which I really appreciate. He is a very capable lawyer and personable. With that said his office doesn't reply to emails or voice mails. I had to go to ssi office and wait for hours to get answers to questions that I contacted Him about. Good lawyer but bad communication.

Woman bothered to check to see if my case was worth it to them. It was a disability for a $20 per hour park ranger so maybe 25% of 1200 per month for 1-2 years of back pay they would collect. She didn’t say she wouldn’t take the case at first but spouted off a bunch of confusing numbers and then sounded really condescending when she said I should get a social worker and they weren’t in the business of holding people’s hands so I guess this is a different kind of disability lawyer and they don’t want my 25% for holding my hand. I am not a homeless person, I don’t need a social worker, if you’re not going to take the case just come out and say it.

I don’t understand where these false reviews are coming from for Gary Nelson but I can assure you Gary Nelson handled my case in such a professional manner. He was very responsive and very understanding about the situation I was with my work related injury he helped me secure a settlement so I could put my accident behind me. Gary Nelson is highly recommended he will get the job done. Responsive and quick with filling paper work I spoke to him and in that same week he had paper work going out that very same week. Like I mentioned he is very responsive and he is very friendly and respectful 10/10 highly recommended.

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
