Choosing Mr. Milan was the best decision I made for my family's well-being. Co-parenting with a narcissist felt like an insurmountable task, but his unwavering support and expertise provided a beacon of hope during a tumultuous time. With his guidance, I found strength I didn't know I had, and together, we crafted a plan that put my child's happiness and stability first. Mr. Milan didn't just represent me in court; he became a trusted ally and source of comfort throughout the journey. We can NOT say enough GREAT things about Douglas Barnes as a TRUST Attorney. Mr Barnes took care of our family TRUST and gave us ideas and things to think about. We had saved a "dime" YEARS ago and had some "good deal bafoon" write up a so called "Trust" that ended up not worth the paper it was written on and Attorney Douglas Barnes was able to fix this wrong, make it CORRECT, and he was worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY! Attorney Douglas Barnes is also an attorney who can go to court if our family Trust is ever questioned and he can defend our wishes, where OTHER Trust Attorneys can not always do. Something to think about when planning your Estate and wishes for after you are no longer here! GREAT GREAT GREAT hands to be in at the Offices of Douglas Barnes!

I had an unsatisfactory experience in estate planning with Mr. Barnes and his office. I don't feel he invested effort enough to understand my circumstances, but responded in a "cookie cutter" way with generic advice that turned out to be inappropriate for me. The estate package he crafted was far too complicated and not only failed to achieve my goals but in part contradicted and undercut them. Quality of staff work was very poor: copy and paste errors in estate documents; spelled my name wrong in documents. I found him to be unresponsive to questions either by phone or email - until my new lawyer contacted him, which received immediate response. Please note that I don't question Mr. Barnes' integrity or knowledge. Rather that he didn't work hard enough to understand what I wanted; communicated poorly; and at the time his office staff were really a problem (maybe this has been fixed since then, I can't say). By contrast I'm profoundly happy with the attorney I replaced him with.

I cannot speak highly enough of her expertise, professionalism, and compassionate approach. From the moment I began speaking with Shannon, I knew I was in capable hands. Shannon possesses a unique ability to empathize with her clients while educating them about the complexities of the legal process. Unlike other attorneys, Shannon goes above and beyond to ensure her clients fully understand their rights and options, making informed decisions with confidence. Her wealth of knowledge and top-tier professionalism are truly remarkable. Shannon was able to set realistic expectations for my case while instilling in me a sense of confidence and assurance. Despite the challenges of navigating the family court system, Shannon's guidance and support served as a beacon of hope during what can often be a daunting and emotionally taxing experience. In a system that can sometimes feel overwhelming and intimidating, Shannon shines as a bright light of positivity and reassurance. Her unwavering dedication to her clients' well-being is evident in every interaction, and I am immensely grateful to her. Working with Shannon DeBiase has been nothing short of amazing, and I cannot thank her enough for her outstanding advocacy and support throughout my legal journey. We retained Denise to negotiate a settlement agreement for my son's estate after he passed away Christmas Day 2011. We hired her because she assured us, given all the facts of the situation, that she could help us avoid probate. Out of the many attorneys we spoke with this was the key motivation for retaining Denise. Our main goal was to save our family the pain of a lengthy legal process after our loss. Her first recommendation to us after receiving a retainer was to file for probate. Her actions during a very sensitive turning point cost all of us dearly, in legal fees and in emotional health. She alienated the parties by bolstering the party's attorney rather than proposing a settlement agreement. We canceled our retainer check. To make matters worse she is actually going to take my living son and I to small claims court over $2500. After the loss of my son.... the worst decision I made was talking to this firm and to Denise Chambliss.

After a disastrous experience with another lawyer, I did my research and selected the law firm of Phillip Lemmons. After crafting a 3 pronged approach, Mr. David Chon, an attorney at the firm, was able to reverse almost all the damage caused by my first lawyer, and the law firm of Phillip Lemmons continues to represent me to this day. I was referred to Mr. Stewart by two elder attorneys in the San Diego area. Mr Stewart was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable regarding not only the legal aspects of the elderly, but also how the elderly age and what the family may expect in the future. His recomendations regarding asset protection and medicare enrollment allowed my father to have health care far beyond what we could have provided otherwise. Scott's detailed estate plan also allowed us to provide personal private care for my father as my father's health declines. Scott also advised me on what skilled nursing facility would best serve my father's needs in our area. I have found Scott to be very personable and extremely wise in his consultation with me regarding complicated family estate planning issues. I have personally recommended several people already to Scott as I have received excellent advice from him.

My first meeting with Scott was wonderful. I was so nervous about my situation and he really took the time to listen and give a realistic strategy for how to handle my case. After that initial meeting, I had gathered all the information Scott needed and called back a week later. He didn't get back to me for 2 weeks. His secretaries attitude and attire were unprofessional every time I went down there, the way he handled my case was sloppy. Eventually when I called after trying to set up a second meeting for over a month his assistant Bonnie informed me that Scott wasn't even handling my case anymore. Having wasted over 2 months of my time, constantly being put on hold and never actually doing anything besides that initial meeting, he didn't even have the decency to say he wasn't handling my case anymore. My only recommendation for clients going to Scott is to find another lawyer.

As a geriatric care manager, I often need to refer clients to attorneys with a particular expertise in the areas of elder law and Medi-Cal planning. Mr. Stewart has extensive knowledge of eligibility criteria, asset protection strategies, and issues related to incapacity planning. He was a helpful advocate as my clients navigated their way through the benefits planning process and the transition into care in a long-term care facility. Even more importantly, he has continued to provide help and information beyond the Medi-Cal qualification process, which I greatly value and appreciate.

He really screwed me out of a lot of money and didn't accomplish a thing. I was out 10k and the bills were just racking up. Nothing was happening in my case though. I was paying him what I could, about 200 a month. I didn't have any lump sum money left to pay him after the 10k. Just before a court date his office informed me he was not going to continue representing me unless I paid him another 8k upfront. I told them I was paying him all I could, so he quit my case. He left me right where we started over a yr prior only without any money and without representation. I mean it, absolutely nothing had been accomplished in my case after all that money and ask that time. I immediately stopped paying him at that point. I had already paid him close to 15k and my case had gone nowhere. He spent all the time in court arguing with the opposing attorney or requesting continuance just to rack up fees. I really think he and the other attorney (Richard Gahn) had a racket going together to rack up fees for their clients. Now, his office continually calls threatening me if I don't pay him. I've given him ALL I'm going to give him for the lack of service I received. I will have to say, he is kind, seems to know his stuff or where to find answers, and he seemed prepared for court .He did seem to know my case when he got to court, which is more than most can say about a lot of lawyers.

Terry charges $500 and hour. He blew through my $5,000 retainer quickly. I never received one invoice in the mail. In fact, I never met this man except for we had a conversation over the phone and I trusted him. He didn't do much to help my case except for he went and filed a document at court. After several months, I decided to meet Terry in person because at that point we were getting close to mediation and something didn't sit well with me because the last conversation we had he demanded another $5,000 retainer if not he didn't want to speak to me and hung up the phone. That did not sit well with me!! At that point I was contemplating whether or not I wanted to continue to keep him as my attorney . Well my intuition was spot on the whole time he kept on looking at his watch. I thought that he was so rude and unprofessional this man already blew through $5,000 for a set of paperwork and a ton of emails and here's the kicker he ended up charging me $450 for meeting him who does that?? I feel that Terry totally took advantage of me and I've learned a lot along the way that will never happen again!! Rule #1 never do a consultation over the phone always meet the person face-to-face. I was told by a couple other attorneys that the little amount of work that Terry did was not much. I basically got ripped off. At that point I knew I needed to cut my losses and move on. I finally came across a great attorney named William (Bill) Koehler $310 an hour very knowledgeable, professional, assertive and most importantly HONEST! Did I mention he's also the mayor of Agoura. Yup, that''s right Bill really knows his stuff. You definitely want him in your corner. At the end of this whole nightmare I ended up winning my case with Bill.

After reading such glowing reviews we engaged Silverman’s firm. They sounded great on our initial call. It shouldn’t became a parent that their timeline was their timeline and my impression was, since fees are court mandated, they were not going out of their way if something different was required. We found members of their staff to be arrogant and haughty. We were told it would take weeks and even months before appointments and items could be addressed. After terminating our relationship and engaging our new lawyer within days we had necessary appointments and issues had been resolved. The impression we had was Silverman’s firm only wanted to do the bare minimum And anything extra we felt like we were demanding or that they were being put upon. They knew our circumstances from the beginning and they were not that extraordinary in our opinion and when we engage. Bottom line, in my opinion, I would not recommend them for anything other than a very , bread and butter probate and would not expect the best or fastest service Without a certain amount of attitude to accompany it!

Mr. Hartnell was hired to remove a trustee, my disappointment actually comes from the lack of communication. He nor his assistant would ever keep me up to date on my case, or whether the emails I sent him were received. I was always kept in the dark, which is my biggest complaint. A simple, " hey I got the docs", or "I received the emails" or I am working on your case, would've helped. I felt like I had to do all the work, and yet he never kept me up to date on what was on going. He if it was negative news, some news is better than no news. I always had to call and follow-up, and push things along to the next step. There was a draft pending and he had questions, but I was not made aware of this till I called in to ask what the hold up was. I hired him so I wouldn't have to stress, and all I did was stress. The process dragged on longer than it should have. My experience with him was not a good one unfortunately.

After my fathers recent visit with Peter Keon to update his Will/Trust my father reports that Mr. Peter A. Keon treated him very unprofessionally and condescending. My father even scheduled an interpreter for their meeting and Mr. Keon kept insisting that my father should, “speak English” repetitively. Mr. Keon even made and comment to my father “you’re crazy” regarding something he didn’t agree with. The interpreter was passive as she wasn’t equipped to translate correctly or even advocate for my father. My father felt miss represented throughout the entire meeting as Mr. Keons unprofessional demeanor resulted in Mr. Keon walking up out his seat to handle other matters as the translator was interrupting what my father was stating. Mr. Keon’s was not only passive aggressive with certain statements and comments towards my father in the meeting but he was also very discriminating that my farther felt the aggression and had to walk out the meeting. This company has been overall extremely disappointing and unprofessional. My father mentioned that it took several weeks to get this meeting scheduled with this law firm. To get treated this way is truly insensitive toward their clients. Especially ones who pay for their service. We Do Not recommend this company to other and if you’re looking to get involved Stay Away especially if you are a Latino. The company is Not worth your time and especially not your money. We don't even have a valid Power of Attorney that I can use to file my mother's income taxes. In early 2014 Mr Hranek closed his office in Sun City and literally disappeared. **PLEASE BE ADVISED** of this attorney before you sign a retainer agreement or hire her for her services . She will take your money and prolong your case as long as she can, while all her fees add up . LITERALLY this attorney will hit you with so many fees that youll be completely unaware . Fees for phone calls , fees for emails , fees for letters , fees for information pertinent to your case , fees , fees , fees ! You’ll get a receipt in the mail with consistent increases vs what you signed up for . In my case I spoke up to Mrs Sherrie Davidson and asked why I was being charged for every little thing ? Why my case kept being extended and why was I doing all the work and continued to submit the same repeated request of the court ?? When I started to ask why, she would hit me with more and more fees. Finally after I explained I needed a resolution before my final check to her was cashed , she went to court , dropped me as a client after I spent thousands and thousands of dollars for her services and left me high and dry . Take into consideration she collected all her thousands and thousands in fees before my case was concluded . I’m stuck now having to further extend my case again and hire new counsel for representation which is costing me an additional 5k more to which she is fully aware was going to be my process . A very cowardly move from what was supposed to be a very professional individual who provides a service that really means a lot to the consumer to wether they win there case or lose ! . I’m moving forward and hopefully I will overcome my family law case . I certainly DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ATTORNEY for any of her services . There are a ton of good attorneys out there other then Sherrie Davidson who you CAN trust to be open and transparent about there services and what they can provide to you based on your circumstances. Do your research !

Twice Scott tried to transfer title on a property into my trust. Both time, the transfer was denied. He does not return phone calls or emails. Three, four, and never go by without a response to emails and phone calls, particularly when he is in the wrong and doesn't know how to correct his errors.

Scott was very helpful in amending my grandmothers living trust. He was very patient with our lack of knowledge and explained everything in detail. He was also more than fair with his fees.

Robert Pearson is absolutely the worst attorney I have ever dealt with. He is the worst communicator and is completely useless. The most non responsive attorney I have ever seen. I would totally stay away from this attorney. He is shady in his business practices and no help at all. Worst attorney ever!!

Robert Pearson was recommended to me by my long-time tax professional following the death of my husband in a traffic accident. He was extraordinarily patient in explaining to me the various options available, as neither my husband nor myself had established a will. I could not have asked for better service in dealing with the numerous documents and situations relating to my husband as well as in establishing a will and trust in my own name. Over the years, I have contacted his office for updates and other matters, with nominal fees (if any). His associate, Cindy, has also been very helpful. I do not hesitate to recommend this attorney.

What a Trusts Lawyer Can Do for You

A trusts lawyer specializes in creating and managing trusts, which are legal entities that allow individuals to transfer assets to beneficiaries while maintaining control over how and when those assets are distributed. Trusts are used for estate planning, asset protection, tax planning, and ensuring the financial security of loved ones. Trusts lawyers help clients choose the right type of trust for their needs, draft trust documents, and advise on the administration and management of trusts.

Whether you're planning to pass on your assets to your heirs, protect your wealth from creditors, or provide for a disabled family member, a trusts lawyer can help you establish a trust that meets your financial and personal goals.

When Should I Hire a Trusts Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a trusts lawyer in various situations, particularly when you're planning for the future distribution of your assets or protecting your wealth. Common reasons to hire a trusts lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, a lawyer can help you create a revocable or irrevocable trust to avoid probate and provide for your heirs.
  • Asset protection: If you want to protect your assets from creditors, lawsuits, or potential future liabilities, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to shield your wealth.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member, a lawyer can create a special needs trust to provide for their care without affecting their eligibility for government benefits.
  • Tax planning: If you're looking to minimize estate taxes or manage tax liabilities, a lawyer can help you create tax-advantageous trusts, such as a credit shelter trust or charitable remainder trust.
  • Charitable giving: If you want to leave a legacy through charitable donations, a lawyer can help you set up a charitable trust to ensure your donations are managed according to your wishes.
  • Business succession planning: If you own a business and want to ensure a smooth transition of ownership, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to pass the business on to your heirs or chosen successors.

Hiring a trusts lawyer early in the estate planning process ensures that your assets are protected and your wishes are clearly documented, reducing the chances of disputes after your death.

What Does a Trusts Lawyer Do?

A trusts lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help individuals create, manage, and administer trusts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting trust documents: Preparing the legal documents needed to create the trust, ensuring it is tailored to your specific goals and complies with state and federal laws.
  • Choosing the right type of trust: Assisting clients in selecting the most appropriate type of trust for their needs, whether it's a revocable trust, irrevocable trust, living trust, or special needs trust.
  • Trust administration: Guiding trustees through their legal responsibilities, including managing assets, making distributions to beneficiaries, and filing tax returns.
  • Modifying or terminating trusts: Helping modify or terminate trusts if circumstances change, such as changes in tax laws, family situations, or personal preferences.
  • Protecting beneficiaries' interests: Structuring trusts to protect the interests of beneficiaries, especially if there are concerns about financial management, disability, or dependency issues.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: Assisting clients in structuring their trusts to minimize or avoid estate taxes, ensuring more of the estate passes to beneficiaries.
  • Handling disputes: Mediating or representing clients in court if disputes arise among beneficiaries or between trustees and beneficiaries.

How Are Trusts Lawyers Paid?

Trusts lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the trust and the type of legal work involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Flat fee: For drafting basic trusts, such as revocable living trusts or special needs trusts, many lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the trust.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex trust planning, ongoing trust administration, or resolving disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: For long-term trust administration or complex estate planning cases, some lawyers may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers ongoing services.
  • Contingency fee (rare): In rare cases, particularly in disputes involving the administration of a trust, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis, getting paid only if they successfully recover funds or resolve a legal dispute in your favor.

Always discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the total cost of services.

How Much Does a Trusts Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a trusts lawyer depends on the complexity of the trust, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Basic trust creation: For simple trusts, such as revocable living trusts, fees may range from $1,000 to $3,000.
  • Complex trust creation: For sophisticated estate plans involving multiple trusts, tax planning strategies, or special needs considerations, legal fees may range from $5,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Trust administration: If you are serving as a trustee and need ongoing legal advice, hourly rates for trust administration can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Dispute resolution: Costs for litigation or mediation in trust disputes may range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.

Be sure to get a detailed cost estimate from your lawyer during the consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Trusts Lawyer

Before hiring a trusts lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with creating trusts?
Ensure the lawyer has experience drafting trusts and managing trust administration for clients with similar goals or asset structures.
  2. What types of trusts do you recommend for my situation?
Ask the lawyer to explain the different types of trusts available and which ones best suit your needs.
  3. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate of the total cost.
  4. What are the tax implications of the trust?
Ensure the lawyer can explain how the trust will affect your taxes and strategies to minimize tax liability.
  5. How long will it take to set up the trust?
Ask for a timeline for creating and finalizing the trust documents.
  6. Will you handle the trust administration?
If ongoing management is required, inquire whether the lawyer will assist with trust administration or if you'll need a separate trustee.
  7. Can you help resolve disputes if they arise?
Ask about the lawyer's experience in resolving trust disputes.

How to Check the Credibility of a Trusts Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable trusts lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for trust law experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in estate planning and trusts.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications such as Certified Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) or memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a trusts lawyer, bring the following:

  • List of assets: Prepare a list of all your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investments, retirement accounts, and personal property.
  • List of beneficiaries: Provide names and contact information of individuals or organizations you want to name as beneficiaries.
  • Existing estate planning documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, or other estate planning documents.
  • Financial information: Bring financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant financial documentation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions about the trust creation process, fees, and how the trust will protect your assets and beneficiaries.
  • Goals for the trust: Clearly outline your objectives, such as asset protection, tax minimization, or provisions for beneficiaries, so the lawyer can tailor the trust to your needs.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible legal advice for creating and managing your trust.
