I cannot begin to express how wonderful it was to work with Alexa Kwartin. She is methodical, attentive and a tremendous advocate. Alexa made an otherwise strenuous time in my life feel relatively manageable.

I live in Florida and relied heavily on Elaine and Liz to handle the probate of my mother's estate who lived in Decatur. I would highly recommend them to anyone as they are highly skilled attorneys and their work ethic is terrific. When the estate was finalized, K & L had been overpaid by the estate by $131. This amount was returned to me without hesitation by Elaine.

Family dynamics made the estate planning and will process for my mother complicated, contentious, and full of drama. Elizabeth (Liz) Lawrence was a dream to work with. She was incredibly knowledgeable and so patient with all of our family member’s questions as we established much needed estate documents. She walked us through each step in detail, over the course of two phone calls and an in-person meeting, and took additional time to re-explain things during the signing when we had additional questions. She is also a genuinely lovely person and I would absolutely work with her again.

Elaine was courteous and did exactly what she said she would do. UNTIL she wasn't present for the final signing and we were rushed through the process of the final signing. Witnesses were present and signed each document PRIOR to any reviews or signatures on our part as they were "in a hurry". We raised objections but they were brushed over. We asked for detailed explainations of each document we were signing and felt very hurried. The final wills were never presented for review. We were told by the person filling in (?who she was, she introduced herself once but we never got a clear understanding, ? think she was some kind of assistant) near the conclusion of the meeting that she needed to go to pick up her kids. Elaine was sick, but had been sick over a week. The practice clearly had time to notify us to reschedule. All for naught; we wasted $3,500 on useless wills and trusts that need to be redone by a special needs attorney for our son's special needs trust. Elaine (copiously) informed us she was NOT a special needs attorney, but we had no idea of the implications of this (special needs attorney should always be seen FIRST to avoid wasting your time and money). We felt abandoned after our final meeting and then the relationship with Elaine turned hostile when we confronted her with the situation regarding her having to have KNOWN that the special needs trusts need to be done FIRST. Despite our reaching out regarding changes of beneficiaries not going through, and a request to review a brief 2 paragraph letter to family explaining what the documents were, we were rudely rebuffed by Elaine that her services had been concluded. The percentages of distribution to our non-special needs children in the conduit trust was INCORRECT. We were told in no uncertain terms that out relationship was now "concluded"- leaving us with INCORRECT, useless documents. Would definately not recommend Elaine Levine.

Elaine Levine is awful! She is a bully and enamored with her own work. Unable to empathize with grieving family members who are genuinely trying to do the right thing in executing the will of a loved one. Always defensive and not willing to answers questions as though somehow questions challenge her authority. Yes her authority….You are treated as though you are working for her and not the other way around. Additionally often she really does not know what she is doing and gives incorrect advice and instruction. The best thing my family could have done after months of being bullied and threatened by this woman is to fire her and get a new more competent and compassionate attorney. Stay away unless you are ready to spend money, energy and time and peace of mind at a time when you need support, thoughtfulness and competence.
