Renee has facilitated the best interest for me in an ongoing case that cannot specifically be discussed. He is very focused, direct, and effective. The terrain of my case is treacherous and complicated, facing many pieces of evidence based off of preponderance and hearsay. He's avidly spoken out against the speculation and here say that is pitted against me. His approach has been concise and direct. I have enjoyed him as my attorney foresee reasons and foresee success in clearing all of the slanderous allegations. His expert advice and direction in the case is helping to turn things around in many ways. I potentially damaged my own case with a very defensive stance and allegations against those that would support the hearsay it against me. This Council has been invaluable. Thank you, Renee.

David effectively absorbed the details of my case, impromptu devised a strategic methodology for litigating the case, adapted the strategy on court date given curve balls presented, and then successfully litigated the case before the court. He won the case outright by strategizing and implementing the strategy. I was impressed by his intellect and discipline to the strategy. He was also very accessible, and he did not over promise. He was very honest that my case was roll of the proverbial dice, yet he won the case!

I hired Mr. Maggard to do my case when I was facing a custody matter. The matter became complicated at we had to go to a hearing in the case. Mr. Maggard was aggressive and knowledgeable in the courtroom. He knows the law inside and out and was able to get me everything in my case that I wanted. I would highly recommend Mr. Maggard as an attorney.

Michael W. Moore is a very professional attorney. He had to deal with not one, but two simultaneous, criminal cases (cross charges). He also had to deal with a prosecuting attorney who was determined to go to trial. In addition, he had to deal with another defense attorney who was very loud (to put it nicely). Through all of these obstacles, he came through for us with flying colors. Shouting out, job well done to Mr. Moore! Thank you. I hope that I never find myself in need of Mr. Moore's services, however, if life throws me another curve ball, I would definitely call on Mr. Moore to represent me again. Thank you Mr. Moore!!!! :-)

5 thumbs up!! Joy Kemp was my daughter's court appointed lawyer (Guardian ad Litem) in a private termination of paternal rights trial. She went beyond the call of duty to protect my daughter's best interests. She came to trial well-prepared. I was particularly impressed by the questions she posed to the witnesses, which exposed both the truth and the lies. My daughter really liked her. She believes that she had the "best lawyer."

I needed legal counsel in regards to my case. Amy not only found a very important part of legal advice that worked for me, but provided the counsel and representation needed to go before a judge and get the legal act I was entitled to applied to my case. In doing so, justice did prevail. She did what serveral “high powered” and experienced attorneys missed and did not do. Professional, Knowledgeable, and is all in for who she represents! I give my highest recommendation.

Sometimes you only have 1 chance to pick an attorney. I was facing 2-5yrs and I made the best decision of my life by hiring Steve. He was verysharp & intuitive in court and absolutely hammered the prosecutions case & witnesses. As I watched him dismantle the case against me I could only feel more and more confident as the trial went on. I was very thankful for what he did for me as it changed my life. If I ever needed another attorney he's my guy. Gregg

I had an issue with the Orange County Social Services at the courthouse here in Orange County. I was given a public defender from the public defender's office who did absolutely zero for my defense however managed to string me along and not do anything for me but for the prosecution did everything for them. I did not want to say anything more that will affect my case however let me tell you this if you think you're going to get anywhere with a public defender you are absolutely lying yourself. The child services people including the courts public defenders children's attorney State appointed attorneys Social Services and the judge all work together to keep you in check until you either screw up or until you find an attorney that can make things happen more quickly than normal. Martin has done wonders for me for my defense and hopefully for the immediate return of my newborn. Martin has more experience then all the lawyers including the judge in regards to my case and probably others. He knows the law he knows what is needed on both ends of the legal sides. His experience speaks for itself however he's done a great job so far on my case and we're fortunate enough to have him help us through this difficult time. Very nice guy to the point and very professional. The best part of it all is that we have a very confident competent attorney in the middle of this ridiculous legal mess that we are in.

Ms. Saban is my grandaughter's attorney at juvenile court. Our family has faced many difficult situations over the past couple of years. It's hard finding the words to explain to my granddaughter why our family is in this mess, and when it's all going to get better. Ms. Saban is a rather young attorney, but she's very good and has a way with my grandaughter. She seems to have a lot of compassion and cares a lot about the case. My grandaughter is 12 years old, and I think she relates to Ms. Saban and looks up to her.

Mr. Barrasso was retained for child custody. Bob listens very carefully to exactly what you tell him. He in return wants you to be specific with answers to his questions. Bob is quick to cut you off if he believes you are getting off course with the specifics of your case. This may turn someone off if they think their attorney is cutting them off during discussions. Remember that most every time you speak with your attorney, it is costing you money. Bob purposely keeps conversation specific so the facts are discussed, and your money is best spent helping your case. My case involved a mother who was doing as she pleased, and was not the least bit interested in father/child relations. Basically she wanted as much child support as she could get, and to do as she pleased raisng our child. Painfully I bided my time until I believed I had enough evidence to go after her for change of custody. My childs mother wasn't a drunken, drug using, or physically abusive parent. Mom was an arrogant, self centered person who made poor choices that created an unstable environment for our child. She believed she could never lose custody no matter what. Well in many cases she was right. Generally speaking moms have primary custody and the courts give them many chances to correct mistakes. This is exactly why I knew I needed an excellent attorney like Bob to fight for both me and my child. Bob always encourages both parents to try and be civilized, communicate, and discuss the key issues related to raising their children. Bob is a proven trial lawyer who is not affraid to go to trial if nessesary. My case ended up going to trial. Bob and his staff made me feel at ease with the entire process, start to finish. At trial, Bob performed exactly as I would expect of an excellent trial attorney. He was extremely well prepared for my trial. He was relentless when it came to exposing the facts of my case, and cross examination of witnesses. Going to trial is a very stressful experience, and is never guaranteed as far as the outcome. Bob never gave me false assurances as to a guaranteed outcome of my case. Bob always explained what he believed the realistic chances were for a positive outcome. I am happy to say that Bob helped me win my case, and gain primary custody of my child. Dads getting custody of their children is still pretty rare in this day and age. Bob's professional and efficient work ethic helped to keep the overall cost reasonable, and far less than what I thought it might cost. Bob has a reputation as a fathers rights attorney, but the fact is that he represents either party for what he believes is in the best interest of the child. I cant say enough about the pleasant experience I have had since retaining Bob as my family law attorney.

Diane Leo's was my second court appointed attorney for our dependency hearing. Even though it was right before the hearing when she was appointed, she took the time to listen to everything I had to say and she looked at all of the documents I gave her. I can honestly say that she was the only person who did this during our year long ordeal. I was very happy with her trial presence and she was able to win our case and our children were returned. I would highly recommend her to anyone dealing with a CPS case.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
