Lisa you replied to my review and again your not forthcoming with the truth. On January last year I asked for my divorce to be withdrawn from any court proceedings. You are still pursuing this matter one year later. You didn’t have to pursue asking the court for you to be removed as my attorney when you were asked to withdraw the case in its entirety.Your only trying to gain additional fees and I’m not the only client who has been Bamboozled by you. It’s your pattern! Any potential clients need to read all of your reviews before considering your representation. However, I confided in Legal shield who I pay for their services every month to refer an upstanding divorce attorney. However they referred you. You never reached out to me to try to resolve this matter. You actually were very disrespectful when I informed you of my reconciliation with my husband and referred to me by my Maiden name. Your firm was not supportive or knowledgeable of my case and wasted a lot of time. When I asked to be present in court through zoom I was purposely not informed. Documents needed to be amended because of your firms incompetence at my expense. In a pandemic without any court appearances and without any participation from my husband your firm is trying to charge me 10,000 dollars! I have the emails regarding all of my concerns and issues since the beginning when Your firm was hired. I also have the request for a breakdown on my bills because the very first bill was inflated and you agreed to credit it and the revised bill was never sent.Your unprofessional and I have all the other people who have lost thousands to your firm. Run and properly do your homework before you hire Lisa as your divorce attorney!

Lisa D’Agostino served as my lawyer for two separate legal matters. Having a lawyer that you truly trust, and that you know has your best interest in mind is priceless. From the first time I sat down with her, Mrs. D’Agostino was up front and honest. She explained her role, expectations, cost, and the process set by step. She didn’t make any promises that she couldn’t deliver. If you have worked with a lawyer before, you know that they are busy and don’t always get back to you as quickly as you might like. This was definitely not the case with Mrs. D’Agostino. She was always responsive to my emails and phone calls. If she couldn’t speak to me right away, she let me know when she would be available to talk. Mrs. D’Agostino always made sure that I was prepared before court, she followed up with me after court, and most importantly, she did her homework. She put my mind at ease if I was uncomfortable or worried about a situation. Before Mrs. D’Agostino was recommended to me, I unfortunately retained a different lawyer. I truly wish I would have found Mrs. D’Agostino first. Her communication style, expertise, compassion, efficiency, and timely manner in which she handled things truly made the process of going through a legal situation less stressful. I hope to never have to retain a lawyer again, but if I do, I would definitely go with Mrs. D’Agostino.

Please run for your life. This law firm does not care about your case or how they can really help you. I was recommended by Legal shield and did not research this law firm. This law firm has caused me mental distress and financial losses. This matter has been a complete nightmare. This firm only care's about money. I requested my case to be withdrawn/dismissed from court in January 2021 because me and my husband were reconciling. After signing documents for the case to be withdrawn in January this lawyer proceeded without my knowledge or consent to continue adding additional fees. This lawyer disregarded my request and proceeded to want my husband to sign documents in order to withdraw the case. This lawyer than filed a motion to be released from the case instead of doing what was instructed which was to withdrawn the case in its entirety because we were not pursuing with the divorce. This matter is yet not resolved because Lisa refused to follow my instruction. Before you hire this attorney, please look up her reviews on Yelp this is her Pattern!

I consulted Attorney Victoria Brown Douglas on 2 separate cases for friends who had felony charges against them. I watched her in and out of court working professionally and diligently to get them justice. She is a hardworking lawyer on the cases of her clients. She treats them with dignity and respect, with an extremely caring heart. Lawyer Victoria is also very knowledgeable and competent in the criminal justice system and with a broad range of judicial experience. I would recommend her services to anyone seeking an excellent Attorney.

Renee handled a long standing issue I had with the Town of North Hempstead. What took me almost a year to complete, took her just a few court visits. She was extremely knowledgeable, professional, patient and most importantly for me, effective. Renee kept me informed throughout the process and saw it all the way through to the end. I was extremely happy with my outcome, as well as her service and her ownership of my issue. My business is in a much better place and I couldn't have done it without her assistance.

Renee helped my husband and I to gain residency, and at first I was not sure about her, but after consultation I realized we could not have picked a better lawyer. She knew exactly what she was doing and was on the ball with our case. I would recommend her to anyone. Thanks Renee, we really appreciate all you've done for us.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Queens, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
