She did not represent me as she could have. I'm a domestic violence survivor and my abuser came in with false allegations wendy never bothered to respond to my pleas to help and i lost my child. Im now fighting a permanent damage done by her negligence. She is well known for messing over her 18b clients. She gets paid whether she doea anything or not. I'm damaged and so is my child! Its a nightmare

Ms. Keegan cuts thru all the conjecture and gets straight to the matter at hand. No non-sense approach to reaching an agreement. She focuses on her client and most importantly, the law. She is sincere, honest and trustworthy. She strived to get my matter resolved as fairly and quickly as possible while maintaining a level of compassion that is seldom if ever associated with attorney/client posturing. Very responsive to my emails, call and inquiries. A pleasure to deal with and I would recommend her BUT I hope I will never need her services again.

she is a no nonsense, practical and extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter. She gave me advise on the spur of the top of her head, she was familiar with case law and rattled of several specific situations. We had been to another big name big priced hot shot attorney that was recommended to us for this matter. They really answered nothing in our first consult, it took three separate meetings to establish a plan. I was using Ms. Zawisny (through a recommendation) as a second opinion because I was told of her expertise. Well let me tell you, what she expalined more in the initial consultation than the other lawyers did in 3 meetings. She did waste my time saying that she had to do some research, she knew what she was talking about and that was obvious. the level of comfort with her handling my work is worth every dollar.Nicko

Robert Brown and his staff were excellent in helping me and my family during a difficult time. He always returned our calls and was very professional and patient with us. He was very fair and stuck it out with end from the beginning until the end. I would highly recommend not using any other lawyer besides him,

Dear Google, I would like to begin by providing website feedback. How do I give Robert E. Brown a 30+ star rating? If you’re reading this review in hopes of finding the perfect lawyer, look no further. Robert E. Brown will forever be known as the G.O.A.T aka Greatest Of All Time in my book. I am not the type to look for trouble but trouble seems to somehow find me. I live in a multifamily complex and unfortunately was accused of copyright infringement. My internet services are shared throughout the building however, I’m the ISP account owner. I feared if my case was brought to court and my info was made publicly, my professional and personal reputation would be tarnished. I did extensive research on law firms that specialize in these types of cases but a mutual friend referred me to Robert knowing he produces phenomenal results. Without hesitation, I hired him immediately. (By the way, investing in Robert didn’t break the bank at all. For the quality he delivers was worth every single dollar.) After weeks of sleepless nights, anxiety and mentally draining days; Robert was able to prove my innocence, kept me out of court and, more importantly I remained anonymous. It’s been a few days since my case concluded but I’m still on cloud nine. Thank you, Robert E. Brown, from the bottom of my heart. I can attest and validate the previous 5-star reviews when I say Robert E. Brown is the utmost professional, transparent and down-to-earth person you’ll ever meet. You will rest easy knowing you have the G.O.A.T in your corner because all he does is win. A famous artist named DJ Khaled once produced a song called “All I do is win”. That song has now been assigned to Robert’s number in my phone book. Keep up the extraordinary work!

We talked to several attorneys in the NYC area but felt the most comfortable with Donna Oliva. She is very professional, patient, has great communication skills, and she promptly responded to all of our calls and emails. We never felt we were just another one of her clients. Although she handled a number of matters for us simultaneously, she rarely had to refresh her memory about the specific details of any matter, since her attention to detail and recollection are superb. Her legal knowledge, research and writing skills also are excellent, as well, and she is extremely persistent when following up on things with other lawyers. I would highly recommend Ms. Oliva to anyone.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Staten Island, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
