Martin is unlike any lawyer that I have ever come into contact with. He worked hard on my case to get exactly what I wanted, and he succeeded. His knowledge of family law was impeccable. The compassion that he had to make sure I get what I deserve was quite refreshing. He is one of the kindest person I’ve ever met. His services are reasonably priced. I would highly recommend Martin for any of your family law matters.

I hired Martin as a divorce attorney and was beyond disappointed by his work. He repeatedly neglected to tell me appearance info when we were due in court and insisted a resolution could not be found without going to court. After he was fired, my new attorney settled everything within two weeks, so I suspect he kept drawing things out for his own financial gain. Hire this man at your own risk.

We hired Martin for a real estate transaction. He was very responsive to any questions from contract to closing. He is easy to work with; his communications are prompt and clear. His attention to detail and representing our best interests made the process go very smoothly. Our experience was positive- we highly recommend!

Martin is a brilliant lawyer. I am so grateful for his passion, dedication, and professionalism. Martin is always willing to listen, has compassion and insight for my situation and his knowledge of the law is extremely impressive and incredibly on point. I've hired lawyers before, but he truly is amazing and the best I've ever worked with. I am lucky to have met him and to have him in my corner. Thank you so much!

Daniel is a hard working and honest attorney who is an expert in the law and a strategic thinker. He represented me in a guardianship issue where I was being accused of horrible actions in an effort have my POA taken away. Daniel exposed these lies to the court. He worked with me to meet my needs at a cost that I can afford. He is always available and always returns my calls. I trust him completely.

I had the pleasure of working with Jenn McCarthy and she was great! She is very professional and responsive. I actually picked her because i submitted an email requesting a quote and she got back to me the same day at 9pm. So if you need an attorney to help guide you smoothly through the home buying process pick this group of attorneys-especially Jenn. I was a first time home buyer and Jenn walked through the process the whole time and answered all of my questions no matter what time i sent them.

I used the Kleister Law Firm for a few different events. I used them for two closings. One, when I bought a house. Two, when I sold a house. Jenn McCarthy who works with Chris handles the closing. She was very on top of things to make sure issues were dealt with and stayed on track. I also had other business with the firm that Chris handled for me with aplomb. It was a sensitive issue and he acted as a mediator in informing me my options & guiding me to reach my goals. I would highly recommend The Kleister Law Group if you find the need for attorney's.

Left a message and the receptionist called back and asked for a $300 consultation. I said ok and asked before I pay what's the average length of time to write a prenuptial. She said I can't answer that. I said you work for a prenuptial firm? Can the lawyer email me that one question and we can have a deal. She said ok and didn't get my email. Take this as a lesson people. This call was made around 1230pm wed may 15th. Hope she get some training for better customer service.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Washingtonville, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
