Pros
1
Knowledgeable and effective in legal matters
“Peter went to work and wrote letters on my behalf to two different judges getting a relief from the disability and enabling the judge to reverse his order and reinstate my permit. Peter is so professional I would highly recommend him to anyone needing legal assistance.”
2
Provides clear guidance and communication
“Peter immediately understood my issue of recertification under the Safe Act. And, provided information that resolved my problem immediately.”
3
Personable and compassionate
“He showed up for me, giving me the best info possible, navigating me toward my family law options, knowing that I was not a paying customer. He looked me in the eyes as a human being, with compassion, confidence and knowledge.”
Cons
1
Unresponsive and fails to follow up
“I hired Peter to assist me with a case against my wedding photographer who had not deliver my photographs to me. Peter was very unresponsive - I emailed and called him several times and received no response.”
2
Issues with billing and refunds
“I called the office and left a message concerning an issue I had with my pistol permit. I was called back the next day by Peter Vasilion, explained the situation of which he stated he could help me. He required a $100 fee to go to the pistol permit office to view my file. I brought a check to his office the following day. After not hearing from him for 2 months, I called the office and was told he would call me back. I never received a call. After several unanswered calls from me, I went to his office and was told he would call me on his progress with my case. A call from him never came. I called again on January 3rd and left a message for him to call me back. Yes, you guessed it, I did not get a call back. I called again on January 9th and was told by a receptionist that he will call me back. Once again, I did not get a call back. I went to the office on February 25th to ask for a refund of my $100 as nothing has been done. I was told by the receptionist that she will talk to Peter and have a check mailed to me by Friday of that same week. It is now March 25th and I still haven't received a refund nor heard from anyone from this firm.”

Peter P. Vasilion he's a worthless lawyer I was in CPS Court for something that I completely had no partay in and something he knew I was innocent of and he still failed to help me get my daughter he failed the fight for a DNA test so to this my daughter's been in the system for 3 years since she was the age 5 I cannot see my daughter until she's 18 because of this lawyer he did nothing he brought nothing up when people were put on the stand he said nothing he read things off of a book instead of reading actual facts of the case so therefore I am going to parte and suing Mr Peter for professional malpractice, he refused to inform me of any emotions that could be served within the correct ample time to get DNA test to fight for my daughter he did nothing he never once called me he never once came and visited me he never once wanted to see me nothing I highly do not recommend this guy I'm sure you're going to get some people that say he's great great that's fine fine and dandy. But in my situation he's worthless and by taking my daughter away from me I sure will be coming after you and suing you in the court of law you bet that believe I will I'll be seeing you soon! I was also unfounded for anything against me I have the paperwork again thank you for causing my daughter for having a father in her life I should have known you were a joke the minute I met you I said that when I left actually to my father that you were a joke but I gave you the benefit of the doubt I even had surveillance that I offered to give him in hand to hand that I brought and he told me no you're worthless and again I will be seeing you in court I'm going to sue you for every penny you have and I'm going to make sure you get disbarred because my sister was there with her lawyer and he also said that you did absolutely nothing to help the case whatsoever

Peter was recommended to me to assist with a non-destruct application. The process of handling such an application is complex. Though it took some time to determine the appropriate course of action, Peter maintained communication throughout, providing a clear understanding of our progress. Ultimately, we successfully processed the application, and I am very satisfied with the outcome. Finding legal consultation on this matter in Western New York was challenging, as few attorneys were willing to engage. Finding someone as knowledgeable, willing, and capable as Peter was outstanding. I highly recommend him.

I would rate him as a solid 4.5 as obviously no one is perfect. Mr. Peter Vasilion had to work very hard and for many years in what I am told is pretty unusual. Our case in family court lasted several years due to multiple things including my choice to represent myself for years then COVID-19 & several changes in Attorneys involved. I think he was very straightforward and diligent. Even with these special circumstances, he was doing his best of keeping my daughter's best interest in mind throughout the many ups and downs and various Attorneys that were involved with my case. I would highly recommend Mr. Peter Vasilion. I saw his perseverance and professional dedication on display many times!

I’ve gotta say: he has heart- these bad reviews don’t make any sense to me- I only consulted Peter, however, he showed up for me, giving me the best info possible, navigating me toward my family law options, knowing that I was not a paying customer. He looked me in the eyes as a human being, with compassion, confidence and knowledge. He absolutely is someone to trust with your family law case; he won’t blow smoke, has a great reputation across the field and he knows the ropes. He was honest with me and not a jerk like so many others. Yes, he was hard to get ahold of but his assistant, Arriel was extraordinary helpful when that was the case and ultimately he got ahold of me when I needed him to. For those negative reviews- it’s possible that you/they have a hard time with critique-as Peter gave me constructive criticism, but that’s expected. If you are a jerk in your family law case maybe go elsewhere - why waste a good attorney on a jerk of a client.

I have recommended Diana to work with many of my commercial clients. She is very detail orientated and easy to work with. I know my clients are well protected with Diana on their side and they can focus on running their business instead of worrying about legal issues that may arise. From reviewing leases to LLCs and everything in between, I have found Diana to be a great resource and business partner.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Williamsville, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
