My name is Lisa. I was going through a depressing divorce in 2020-2021 and I needed a lawyer who would fight for me in a professional manner. I did my reviews and that’s how I retained Lauren . Lauren, I want to thank you for going down this journey with me. Lauren was always replying to my text, emails and if she didn’t answer my call I would get a response. Even on the weekends she would reply. Lauren also takes the time to meet with me online to go through the process and explain and answer my questions. Thanks again Lauren for your compassion, your dedication and for your support. Lisa

I'm not the type of person to write reviews as I consider myself pretty low key.  However, when it comes to Lauren I knew I had to let the world know about her because that is the very least I can do to show my gratitude for everything she has done for me.   Prior to meeting/hiring Lauren, I was going through one of the most painful chapters in my life.  My ex fled with my child, lodged multiple false accusations against my family and me, and completely limited my access with my child. After what felt like a lifetime of non-stop accusations, I found Lauren and she really came to the rescue.  In the first 3 months alone she was able to do more for me than all my 3 prior attorneys did in one year.  Lauren was always available,  always empathetic and always ready to answer any questions or concerns I had.   I went from being deprived months without seeing my child at all to now sharing custody as close to equal that far exceeded my expectations.  What I appreciate about Lauren is that she's extremely knowledgeable and compassionate.  She keeps a cool head and is always present. She doesn't take this as just a job but really invests her time to know her client and she makes a genuine and conscious effort to do the right thing and make a material difference in someone's life as she did with mine.  Fast forward 2 years later, my entire case is coming closer to an end and I have more optimism than I ever thought imaginable.  I no longer wake up every morning fearing the worst.  I have my son.  I have meaning and purpose and my life is back on track.  I now see the light at the end of the tunnel and I would not be where I am if it weren't for Lauren's professionalism, support and guidance. Thank you so much, Lauren!

I hired Lauren while going through a unpleasant custody dispute with my ex husband. It was a stressful and scary time for me, but I found solace in Lauren. She was able to not only bring my situation to a complete satisfactory ending, but she was able to calm my fears and keep me sane along the way. Lauren was quick to respond to calls and emails, never leaving me to wonder, and above all else she is incredibly knowledgeable and amazing at what she does. She took my case on like it was her own. By the end of my trial she knew more about my life than I did. She will tell you exactly where you stand and what direction you should go. I am so grateful to have had Lauren in my corner and I can’t thank her enough I will confidently say this.... I am your "most grateful client."

Lauren is not only professional but compassionate and trustworthy. She was patient with me and explained every detail of my case and many times over if I was just too emotional and not able to comprehend the first time. I had no doubt she had my back . I watched her handle herself on my behalf and I appreciate having a strong lawyer on my side. She's very professional, always on time and prepared.

I would give Lauren a 100 stars if I could. She is extremely knowledgeable of the law and efficient at navigating the court system. Her compassionate approach is comforting to clients who are often facing the most challenging life changes. She is affable yet tough which affords her great skill in negotiating. Above all, her honesty and sense of fairness is refreshing and rare. She will always do her utmost to affect to best outcome for her client. I am more than satisfied with her services.

Thanks to Mr. Brown, our first home buying process ended up being a much more pleasant experience than anticipated. Needless to say, if I ever plan to buy or sell another property, I would definitely go with Mr. Brown again, and I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone who is looking for representation. He knows his business and he is very good at it. I could not be happier with the services I received from Tyrone Brown. He is extremely efficient and professional. He was responsive to my phone calls and emails and always available to answer questions.

I was arrested twice for DV cases in which my wife never supported the DA. But they insisted of going to trial without her. John was with me from the very beginning. It would be a lie if I say I had utmost confidence on him. But after waiting patiently for 10 months, he eventually got both my cases dismissed. I am forever grateful to him. I wish him a long life. GOD bless you JOHN.

I was referred to Khader Law to assist me with closing on my home. He made me feel comfortable from the moment I stepped into his office. Purchasing a home was very intimidating. However, Mike walked me through the whole process and was very straightforward. He took his time to make sure I understood all the documents. I highly recommend using their service.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Yonkers, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
