My experience with Gerhard & Gerhard was truly exceptional! They assisted me with Elder Care services for my Mom. Bob was so professional and took the time to make sure I understood the process step by step. Such a huge weight off my shoulder once everything was approved. I highly recommend Gerhard & Gerhard, PC.

Bob Gerhard assisted me when my dad passed away leaving a tangle of estate documents (and leaving me responsible for my widowed stepmom, who has dementia). Now that we're through the entire process, I'm posting my review. I've rarely worked with anyone who was so professional, skilled, calm, and diligent. Bob was the fifth estate attorney I interviewed and his rates were not the lowest but I have a feeling that in the end, we would have paid more to the others. I'm so glad I kept searching until I found an attorney who seemed competent and honest. He truly is both.

After "consulting" with several local "so called", Elder Law Attorneys, some of whom were on the "Super Lawyers List," and after spending over $1000.00 or more, for these "consultations," we finally found Gerhard & Gerhard! The previous attorney's had suggested everything from having my elderly parent's divorce, to putting our parent's home in a " Supplemental Medicaid Trust" for their fee of $14,000.00!!!! No thank you!!! We hit the jackpot when we found Gerhad & Gerhard!! Bob Sr. helped us to dissolve a very detrimental Family Trust, as well as create all of my mother's estate planning papers. What a GIFT to find such INTEGRITY and such KNOWLEDGE and such COMPETENCY!!!!! I cannot recommend Gerhard & Gerhard, Aimee and Bob III highly enough! Sadly, there are many self serving lawyers and firms who are out for the money or are "one trick ponies" suggesting their "one size fits all solution" for your unique issue. We can never thank Gerhard & Gerhard enough for their expertise and kindness in helping us navigate caring for one's parents and protecting them and their estate, when they are at their most vulnerable. God bless you!

My sister and I had the honor of Robert Gerhard as our Attorney for our mother’s estate planning. He is the best. He was always there for us and helped us with everything needed for our mother. Through all the years he helped us get through it all and kept us strong during our difficult time and when our dear mother passed of Parkinson’s disease. He is much more than an Attorney to us, he is our friend and family.
He took care of everything perfectly for our mom and all the work and time he put into the tasks at hand were so very appreciated by us.
I would highly recommend anyone looking for an Attorney in this field to work with him and Aimee. They are a super wonderful team and we were so lucky and proud to have had the opportunity to work with them. His professionalism and knowledge were so appreciated through all the years. Thank you.

If I could give this 10 stars, I would. Bob was fantastic to work with for all our estate planning documents. Every negative label lawyers have, Bob discredited. He was courteous, timely, knowledgeable and very friendly, even when my little one interrupted the zoom call multiple times! My husband and I loved how open he was to calling us back with answers to any of our questions and never rushing us off the phone, which is rare to find in this day and age.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to everyone we know!! Go with this firm, you won’t be disappointed!

We can't thank Bob enough for his assistance navigating through the Medicaid application process. He guided us through money management details we would have never considered, handled the Medicaid Application and even helped find and gain admission to quality nursing homes for both of our parents. I am confident that we could have never done this without Bob's help and expertise. I am certain his fees were substantially less than the money he saved us and he continually went above and beyond to ensure things worked out for the best. Highly recommended.

My brother and I are very pleased and thankful to G&G. We want to acknowledge how very conscientious and detail oriented you are; making difficult concepts clear, compassionate listeners, returning phone calls promptly, help acquiring paperwork, and took action without delay on our families behalf. You made the rough road smooth and we are honored and thankful to have you on our team. As others have stated, we could not have traveled this road successfully without your team!
With great appreciation,
Richard and Carol

I can hardly put into words how wonderful Bob and his wife are. They helped me get through a terrible ordeal and were not only helpful legally but they are also wonderful compassionate people who I knew had my back in all things. If fact I had never heard of Elderlaw until another attorney mentioned it to me, and then gave me their names. I highly recommend them without any reservations.

We had a complex situation to have my mother qualify for Medicaid. It was a real morass of rules and various agencies not properly communicating. Bob's aid was essential in helping us to navigate through this thicket to reach our goals. He noted at the beginning that this was going to take a while, but with his knowledge of processes and people, my mother is now getting real help in her long term care.

After reading the glowing reviews of Bob's practice, I called to discuss a rather sticky situation regarding my mother. Upon our initial conversation, Bob gave me what I felt was an honest opinion of the potential outcome of the case, at which time I decided to proceed. The subsequent process was eased by his clear vision and excellent communication skills. Highly professional and personable at the same time, Bob has the proper demeanor to deal with sensitive family situations. As I had anticipated, we received the best possible outcome for our case and I am extremely happy with the results. I would strongly recommend anyone dealing with an elder care problem contact Bob immediately.

In early 2017, our family retained Bob Gerhard to handle a very complex elder law case. My father then 92, was in physical decline and in a nursing home. He was the legal guardian for my disabled brother, aged 62, who suffers from schizophrenia and lives in a group home in Atlanta.
My father’s social security check, the sources of my brother’s room and board now went to the nursing home. All of his equity was tied up in a empty condo that he would have to sell. I did some preliminary research and determined a special needs trust might be an option where the proceeds from the sale of the condo would be used to support my brother.
However, my own training as an attorney suggested numerous complications. First, the state of Pennsylvania already had a claim of right, similar to lien, on my father’s condo by virtue his status as a Medicaid recipient. Second, it wasn’t clear whether PA law would allow a special needs trust to be created for the benefit an out of state resident. Third, I had concerns that the special needs would generate incomes that might jeopardize my brother’s SSDI benefits. Fourth, the validity of my fathers’ guardianship was in question as it was entered into forty years ago in Massachusetts.
At that point, I contacted a number of certified elder law attorneys in Philadelphia. Each declined to take the case, saying it was too complicated and not worth their time. They had enough cases already. They wished me luck.
The last elder law attorney I spoke to but became more and more flummoxed as I went through the details. Finally, I heard a silence, followed by a deep breath, and he said, “You know, you should talk to Bob Gerhard – If he can’t handle your case, no one can”.
I called Bob that day. I sensed a can-do attitude, an easy going, yet highly professional reassuring manner, someone who liked tough intellectually challenging cases and was a man of integrity. He said that my father’s case was indeed complicated and had some logistical challenges, but he was confident he could get the job done.
Googling his name turned up another interesting tidbit – Bob Gerhard wrote the definitive legal treatise on Pennsylvania Medicaid Long-Term Care. Now everything was making sense.
Bob quoted a very reasonable retainer and he kept us informed about the balance at all times. His original quote was pretty much right on the money. This was a complex case, but Bob always dissuaded us from pursuing certain options when they were unlikely to succeed and therefore not cost-effective.
Bob was incredibly efficient in handling my dad's case. He guided us through all the steps to sell the condo, ensured that all the checks for the sale proceeds were deposited in the correct accounts and that the money was spent down below the statutory maximum allowed. We were able to fund so it would take care of my brother’s needs for the next 4-5 years. We also prepaid my dad’s funeral expense which was close to $12,000.
When the time came time for the Delaware County attorney to sign-off on the trust, the approval was almost immediate. I imagine having the name Robert Gerhard III on the motion had something to do with that. This clearly reduced the cost as litigating with the County would have been expensive.
Bob also drew up a new General Power of Attorney and HealthCare POA, after talking with my dad who took an instant liking to Bob. Afterwards he said, “Wow, where’d you find that guy.” When my dad passed away, Bob sent us a warm l letter of condolence.
My only regret is I didn't come to Bob sooner. I ended up spending a hundred hours navigating my dad's application for the PA waiver program which was the equivalent of a root canal. I am sure if Bob oversaw this process, common sense would have prevailed and I would have spent only a fraction of the time.
Bob Gerhard is what attorneys call a lawyer’s lawyer. He’s a consummate professional. His commitment to the law is unstinting. He is one of the leading, if not the leading, authority on Elder Law in Pennsylvania. We’re very fortunate to have found him.
