Very expensive.....

Horrible experience with Chris Brough. I was treated like the client of a public defender even though I was a paying client. I spent a total of 1 hour with this man before resolution – a resolution I negotiated! I had a simple divorce, and I did all the negotiations myself. As a mater of fact, Chris first pass over the settlement agreement (one they got WRONG) had me paying out money and he said it was “a good deal.” I told him to write up the agreement I gave him – one in which I RECEIVED money. I had to coax my own layer into a better deal. Is that how this is supposed to work? Keep in mind that prior to this I only saw him twice and both meetings were less than 30 minutes. So, all the preliminary work on my case was done and came out to $1,865.50. The initial filings, serving papers, etc. The remainder of the activity – that they claim comes out to $2,900? Really, for them to just write the settlement agreement I negotiated for MYSELF. I had to go back and forth 3 times because I kept finding errors (their mistakes not mine – I was playing editor). Then the man is late to court, and we are reduced to signing papers on the chairs in the court waiting room before going in. I received little to no communication on the process or usable advice. I got more advice from my ex-spouse’s attorney than my own. Throughout this process I was flying in the dark. When I told them that I reached a settlement with the former spouse all he cared about doing was dragging this out for more billable hours. Chris wanted to stall, stall, stall so they could get more money – this was not in my best interest at all. Attorneys are supposed to represent their client’s best interest – if that’s what you are looking for stay away from this place. They see clients as cash cows and the audacity of his arrogance is something to behold.

I found that He used my name distrustful, distasteful and I find this legal firm or mr Brough, never reached out to me but tried to smear my name. Sad.

The Cate and Brough law firm represented me through what was, without question and in every way, the lowest period of my life. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances, though primarily a result of factor related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the duration of my litigation was extended far beyond a normal course of action. This meant that there were multiple opportunities for my ex-spouse and her counsel to use the legal process to punish and control, and that I was in near constant need of representation and support. Some of my greatest comfort during this time was knowing that I was represented by top notch counsel. In my angst and confusion, and in what was often felt like a perpetually emotional state, I reached out to the them on a great many occasions. They always responded calmly, with kindness, expert input, and with the firm assuredness that they would be there to fight for me. Despite our attempts to settle, my case did end up going to trial. During that time I was expertly defended by Chris Brough who was focused, strategic, pragmatic, and appropriately unyielding. My ex-wife and her counsel took a 'win at any cost' approach to the divorce, which was unfortunate. But throughout, Chris maintained the highest degree of professionalism and integrity while defending me to the hilt, and in the end vindication was achieved. I'd highly recommend his counsel and services to anyone who found themselves in my unfortunate position. I do not know that I could have been represented better.
