I have used attorneys in the past to help with my wills and trusts (estate planning). Never has an attorney taken the time to thoroughly understand my intentions and goals that Matthew Bowles took! I thought I had a good grasp of my will and living trust and the changes needed to update it. I was surprised how much knowledge I lacked and all of the things Matthew Bowles explained that needed addressing. I am very thankful to have such a thorough, in depth and updated will and trust that more than meets my needs and expectations!

Matthew conveniently came to our home. He is very knowledgeable, thorough and affordable. Due to our family situation, we had to make some difficult decisions. Throughout the whole process, Matthew was patient and willing to give advice. We received our estate plan both in a nice organized binder and as a digital copy. I would recommend anyone who does not yet have a will or a trust to speak with Matthew right away.

Matthew drafted my estate documents and made the process easy. He clearly explained the different options available to me and the pros/cons of each. He returned correspondence promptly. He was flexible with the location, even coming to my home to complete part of the process. He did excellent work at a fixed fee, with no surprises to the pocketbook. I would recommend him to anyone needing estate planning.

I had a seamless experience with Richard Drennan who I hired for the closing of my parents home. He was recommended by a friend who lives locally.. I live in California. I found him to be efficient, personable, organized, and with a wonderful personality. His personal assistant was also friendly and upbeat. I felt very comfortable with his knowledge and ability. If I needed to utilize legal services, I would call on him again without question. Highly recommended.

Deborah (Debbie) Cohn set up an estate plan several years ago for my wife and I. It was well thought out, detailed and allowed us to maximize the estate transfer to our children. When my wife died, I was surprised by the time and effort t required to execute my wife's estate, even with all the legal documents in place. Debbie stepped in and, with her assistant, did most of the estate work. Her knowledge and legal skills made this task much easier. Subsequently, Debbie has revised my estate plan. She stays up to date on legal changes that may affect my estate plan and assures that I consider them as needed. In summary; Debbie has excellent legal skills and is a delight to work with. I have known Greg for over 30 years. He has advised me on a number of issues, but most significantly my estate planning. He has a very holistic approach to handling his clients estate planning issues, but most important to him was what I wanted. His knowledge of estate planning is complete, thoughtful and forward looking. He shares with you various options you have to handle an issue and then explains the potential ramification of each option. In addition to being an excellent attorney he is a family man, a person of faith and has a superb sense of humor which makes working with him fun! Regarding his fees, I have always found them to be very reasonable and relative to the work product he produces an excellent value. Mr. Greg Hamilton is an excellant and exceptional Trust Law Attorney. He is professional, knowlegeable, talented, compassionate and has the ability to communicate on a layman's level. I am a business & financial planning consultant. I work pretty much nationwide. I was sued for "fraudulent transfer" in a New Jersey bankruptcy court by one of my best former clients---one for whom I had worked five years and actually done pretty well. But this guy (my former client) was a big talker and a dreamer, and he landed himself in a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, represented by a lawyer who was positively legendary (I found out) in New Jersey). It all started last summer at a moment when I was particularly short on cash. I must have spoken to three dozen lawyers all over New Jersey. On hearing the name of the lawyer who was representing my former client, every one of these lawyers said, "OH NO." Now, I knew that my former client's case was not only frivolous on the merits but time-barred. So I had to start off by representing myself pro se. I got ONE count knocked out on the first motion to dismiss, so I did "OK" on my own, but couldn't get the case to go away completely, and I knew I couldn't possibly represent myself in Court, go to trial on my own, or anything like that---"anyone who represents himself in Court has a fool for a lawyer," right? So I continued talked to even more lawyers in New Jersey. Somehow, someway, I found (this is going to sound so corny, but I believe it): somehow God sent me to Graig Corveleyn. Graig Corveleyn not only accepted my case on what I can only call very reasonable terms, he showed no "fear, shock or awe" at the idea of defending me against this very senior, very prestigious, New Jersey Bankruptcy Lawyer who was, like I say, to every other lawyer in the state, some kind of "Legend of Superman." Even in our initial interviews, I could tell that Mr. Corveleyn knew the Bankruptcy Courts and the applicable law backwards and forwards. He took my case, even though he knew he was fighting this "Superhero Super-lawyer" on the other side.... As I say, I work nationwide, so I have literally dealt with lawyers everywhere from Boston, Mass, and Bangor, Maine, to Wasilla, Alaska, and Waikiki, Hawaii. I normally have a rather dim view of lawyers---they are conformists who cannot think outside the box or imagine anything that is new, different, or outside whatever there cookie-cutter specialty is. In Graig Corveleyn, I found someone who actually COULD see the forest and the trees, and notice that there was smut on the bark and rot inside of even on some of the oldest and biggest growths in the whole forest. And he could see the justice on my side---even though I'm a very unusual case. Did you read that, folks, "he could see justice....even in a very unusual case." THAT is really unusual in a lawyer, and it makes Graig Corveleyn a real hero---not a legend because he's been around forever and had really big clients in the past (that was my opponent's lawyer), but because Graig Corveleyn has eyes to see and ears to hear, a discerning mind and a heart to sympathize. As of this moment, my case isn't over yet. Graig has not waivered, not dropped the ball, not showed any sign of quitting....even though the flow of money has been more regularly in the negative than in the positive towards him. That's because he has a brain and a heart to see a winnable case even in an unusual and difficult situation. I expect Graig Corveleyn will one day be a legend himself. Not because of my case (although who knows? The other side is strangely persistent in the face of one defeat and setback after another), but because of who he is and how he does what he does. Graig Corveleyn has worked inside the system with the U.S. Trustee's office---I don't quite understand how all that works in Bankruptcy Court, but that's why we need lawyers, right? He knows all the Judges and what's normal, abnormal, and downright crazy/fruity. Bankruptcy Courts are Courts of equity and I would have to say, Graig Coveleyn's sense of equity and fairness is almost unparalleled in any lawyer I have ever met.

I hired Mike to represent myself and my siblings when our fathers second wife looted a trust fund after our father's death. While I very much wanted to recover the trust money, I did not want to spend a lot of time and money to get a judgment against her only to be unable to collect, or to spend more time and money on collection. I explained this to Mike the first time we talked on the phone, and throughout our almost 2 year journey together he never forgot it. All of his actions were geared toward recovery, not a useless moral victory. In the end we did prevail and recovered all our money and had our legal expenses reimbursed. The second wife's attorney had an excellent reputation, so victory was not easy or a foregone conclusion, yet Mike was able to counter them at every turn. I can't say enough good about Mike, and I recommend him without reservation. I should add that I live in Colorado, so I never met Mike in person. We conducted all of our business via phone and email, and he was always very responsive when I would reach out to him.

In life's journey, every now and then you have the rare privilege to encounter someone who is so incredibly special that they change your future course and make it significantly better. For us, that person is Attorney Michael R. Kangas of the Philip A. Baumann Law Firm in Tampa, Florida. Mike Kangas is an incredibly talented professional. He is deeply understanding and compassionate. During our first meeting with him, we immediately recognized that he was the ideal person to represent us. Mike Kangas has represented us for five and a half years now, and selecting him has been one of the best lifetime decisions we have ever made. The situation we were in was so incredibly complex that we had to question ourselves whether or not it could be successfully pursued. Our great fortune was that Mike has in-depth knowledge of the law, and, as important, he deeply understands right from wrong. Mike guided us every step through this arduous process, taking the time to ensure we understood the rationale of his efforts on our behalf. In a very detailed manner, he kept us completely involved in the decision-making process. We soon observed that Mike Kangas would work evenings and weekends on our behalf through this incredibly difficult process. He didn't tell us about this, but we figured it out from the correspondence. Whatever it took, Mike was there for us. What a professional. Mike has a great sense of humor when warranted. He frequently made us feel so much better as to the ongoing ebb and flow during this lengthy process. We were also so incredibly fortunate in that Mike is a part of the Phillip A. Baumann Law Firm. Mr. Baumann is an incredibly talented, knowledgeable, professional attorney, and one heck of a fine leader. Only a great leader can create the environment that enables his entire staff to absolutely excel. His Super-Star assistant, Rebecca, has been so incredibly helpful, compassionate, and understanding throughout this process as our Paralegal. The Baumann Law Firm represents clients throughout Florida. In the strongest possible recommendation we know how to make, Mike Kangas of the Phillip A. Baumann Law Firm should be one's first choice in selecting legal representation, especially for any aspect of Probate, Trusts, and Estate Law. In any endeavor, this level of pure professionalism doesn't come around very often in today's world. In our case, we are so very, very grateful Mike Kangas and the Baumann Law Firm was, is, and will remain there for us.

I contacted Mark Woodsmall around 12 years ago, when it was obvious that my son with autism as well as high cognitive abilities was having a hard time accessing his education, mostly due to atypical behaviors. After being ignored by the district, even when my son was lost in their care, I knew we needed help. Mark was the perfect fit for us. He was amazing to watch in IEP meetings, and I learned so much from him. He is calm, rational, and knows how to work with a team, which is what IEP meetings should be. I distinctly remember a meeting where Mark’s calm, rational thoughts helped the district to propose a solution to an issue. It was as if Mark had done a Jedi mind trick! They proposed exactly what we had entered the meeting knowing that we needed as an outcome for our son. Mark taught me patience. It takes time to get an IEP just right, but with Marks’s help, it will get there. After many evaluations, IEP meetings, multiple instances of filing for due process, and twice going to mediation, my son got everything he needed for him to access his education. He actually had FAPE. With Mark’s help, I learned how to navigate the system for my son. All along the way, multiple times in this process, I remember Mark asking if I felt if I could handle the meetings on my own now, without his direct help. I told him that he was in it for the long haul! However, what Mark does is amazing. Without even saying it, he tries to empower the parents to learn to advocate for themselves. He slowly starts to remove himself so that the parents can navigate the system on their own, empowered with the skills they need by watching and learning from him. Mark slowly faded out of our IEP meetings, and we as parents were able to continue getting everything our son needed, in a calm, professional, patient way, the Mark Woodsmall way. When we were just starting this process in kindergarten, I remember everyone I talked to about my son’s situation said that I had no chance of getting even a district provided, untrained, one-on-one aide for my son for key parts of his day. With Marks help, my son was able to have an ABA trained, one-on-one aide from an independent agency for his entire school day, from elementary school through middle school, at district expense, which was what he needed. The aide was only removed when my son no longer needed an aide. Had I just gone with the district’s offer, my son would have been placed in the SDC class in order to have the support of an aide to help with his behaviors, which would not have been appropriate for him. My son is where he is today due to the help of Mark Woodsmall and his team. I have referred many parents to Mark, and some have actually called and used him. I hope that this review can help other families who I don’t personally know. As a family friend and retired district administrator once told me (who was on the opposite side of the table from Mark on many instances), “Mark Woodsmall will get your son EVERYTHING that he needs.” This retired administrator was not from our district, and was happy for my son’s sake that I had found Mark. Deciding to let Mark help us was one of the best decisions I could have made in my life, for my son’s life.

It was about 10 years ago that I heard Mr. Woodsmall speak at an autism conference. My son was 2 at the time and I knew that if I ever needed representation in the future with a school district that I would contact Mr. Woodsmall. Fast forward 10 years, I am now an attorney myself, I needed representation and I contacted The Woodsmall Law Group. Mr. Woodsmall is the consummate professional. He is brilliant and thorough. His staff is equally as wonderful. Ms. Christina Brown is the associate attorney assigned to my matter. She is everything you would want in an attorney.

Very concerned for our family's needs. Appreciated his non-adversarial nature so everyone at the IEP was eventually less tense. Was planning for the future of our case not just the current matter at hand. Clearly indicated when elements of our case would be due and submitted.

Have been dealing with Ryan Mittauer, Esq. for months on a judgement collection issue. Very professional and courteous. Great legal knowledge and constant communication. Exactly what you would want in an attorney. Paralegal Alexis Perry is friendly and accommodating. I cannot speak for other attorneys as I have not used them in a professional capacity, but the firm has a good reputation for results.

I hired Casey because he helped a friend of mine through a divorce with a narcissist. He was her third attorney and the couple were fighting over peanuts. I was open and first interviewed several attorneys before choosing him. I liked him because, during my first conversation with him, he chatted with me over the phone for about an hour. Gave me solid free advice. After hiring him, I had no regrets. I was divorcing a narcissist too, a covert narcissist. If anyone knows anything about narcissism, you will know that they are the most difficult, toxic, and delusional people to get out of your life. At first, my ex (in narc vocabulary we call that Nex) was representing himself Proper. Casey made many attempts to meet with him to help resolve things. To no avail. Because my nex had refused to meet, Casey requested a trial with the courts. Los Angeles County is so backed up that it took 6 months just to get an appointment to meet with the judge to schedule a trial. Then that was another 3-4 months after that where we had a mandatory mediation date scheduled and if we didn't come to a resolution there would be a trial a month after that (I was told 99% of the time, cases get resolved at the mediation). All was finally on-track and then Covid hit and all cases were dropped and canceled. My new court date was in fall 2020 exactly 1 year from my initial request for a trial (obviously, none of this was Casey's fault). Eventually my nex got a lawyer and made bogus claims. Ridiculous, crazy claims that he was entitled to more of my home than he actually was. Casey knows his field. I am beyond amazed how intelligent he is. He taught me that I had a Family Code Section 2640 Reimbursement which is a pre-existing interest in my home (I had no idea). Since I had owned it prior to marriage, had my own money invested into it and it appreciated in value. We had done a remodel to the home before and during the marriage and there were some grey areas as to who owned how much. Casey helped me by having me get a historical appraisal, taught me what a Moores Marsden calculation was, and many other things. (I'm a Realtor and being educated in this has helped me with my own clients going through a divorce too). My nex tried all sorts of games, throwing stuff at us last minute. We were ready to go to trial and Casey had to file a "Motion in limine" which is where you get a judge to throw something out of court based on blatant evidence and proof prior to the trial so you don't spend your time discussing their bogus accusations and attend to the actual issues. Basically, we were requesting the other side's testimony to be excluded. We won that part of my trial because of Casey. If you want someone that is professional, intelligent, comes across with class and poise then Casey is your man. I would say the only room for improvement would be that his assistant would send me info from the other side with no explanation of what they were and I would get upset. It would be nice to be explained how it all works a little more perhaps. That said, not sure if I want to pay for the education. I would recommend Casey to anyone. I honestly feel that he genuinely cared about me. He also picked up on my nex being passive-aggressive. My ex is a "wolf in sheep's clothing". Plays the victim constantly and tries to come across with great effort that he is a model member of society. He literally fake-cried in front of Casey to try to elicit his sympathy. Casey didn't buy it and stood by my side to help me. Even when I just wanted to be out and move on, he reminded me how my nex had treated me the whole time. So that I would fight for what I was entitled to. I appreciated that because even I sometimes would be manipulated and feel sorry for my ex. I have seen a few divorce attorneys and perhaps I'm generalizing but the few I saw, I found quite slimy and dirty. I don't think it's in Casey's nature to be that way. Plus you don't need to be that way if you

Casey Olsen recently brought an abrupt resolution to a divorce "science project" that had been going on for a year and a half before I hired Casey. I had two previous attorneys that were not able to get any traction whatsoever with opposing counsel. My two previous attorneys just kept asking for more money, while opposing counsel just kept stonewalling. In my first consultation with Casey, not only was he very knowledgeable but he also had a plan. He even called opposing counsel right there on the spot in the consultation. I had heard a lot of horror stories about how many attorneys will purposely keep both sides at odds to draw things out longer so they can rack up more billable hours. This absolutely was not the case with Casey. Casey chose the course of action that was in my best interest and not the best course for his pocket. His actions and direction brought a swift resolution and an end to a nightmarish lengthy situation. If you are in need an attorney with integrity, knowledge and who is responsive when you need answers, then I highly recommend Casey Olsen. I had enough experience with previous attorneys in the past to know a great one when I found him.

Casey Olsen has been my counsel since 2004. He is responsive, thorough, creative and extremely insightful regardless of the complexity of the matter or the how odious the opposing counsel could be. His integrity is impeccable along with his staff. They are always available, compassionate and professional. My ex has gone through 4 attorneys however, Casey has always prevailed for my case and my children’s best interests have always been a priority. Our lives are better because of Mr. Olsen and I will always appreciate and recommend him to anyone who wants to win.

I called Jeremiah when I got charged with my first OVI. He was very polite and actually listened to what I was going through. He did not try and sell me on why I should choose him. He asked pertinent questions and was straight forward with me telling me all possible outcomes. He told me his price and allowed me to shop around for other lawyers if I wanted without being pushy or a salesmen. I ended up going with him because he seemed genuine. I had never been through anything like this and it’s not a quick overnight process. When you are going through something like this a ton of questions pop up in your head and whether I called, emailed, or texted him with questions he always got back to me with a direct answer. Every ovi case and situation is different and outcomes may vary but I ended up getting charges reduced with no license suspension or points on my license. While a lot of the legal system is a cash grab, if you get caught up in a bad situation like I did, I would highly recommend giving Jeremiah a call.

Got a great insight regarding my issue with my HOA through a phone consult with Mr Healy. Mr. Healy typically work for HOA's, but with me being on the other side it gave me great insight into what the HOA is also trying to do when in a dispute with residents. He also provided great insight into some of the facts of my case and the legal ramifications. Although I did not hire him due to the immediacy of may case and geographic proximity, I found him honest and highly knowledgeable regarding situations similar to mine.

What a Trusts Lawyer Can Do for You

A trusts lawyer specializes in creating and managing trusts, which are legal entities that allow individuals to transfer assets to beneficiaries while maintaining control over how and when those assets are distributed. Trusts are used for estate planning, asset protection, tax planning, and ensuring the financial security of loved ones. Trusts lawyers help clients choose the right type of trust for their needs, draft trust documents, and advise on the administration and management of trusts.

Whether you're planning to pass on your assets to your heirs, protect your wealth from creditors, or provide for a disabled family member, a trusts lawyer can help you establish a trust that meets your financial and personal goals.

When Should I Hire a Trusts Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a trusts lawyer in various situations, particularly when you're planning for the future distribution of your assets or protecting your wealth. Common reasons to hire a trusts lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, a lawyer can help you create a revocable or irrevocable trust to avoid probate and provide for your heirs.
  • Asset protection: If you want to protect your assets from creditors, lawsuits, or potential future liabilities, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to shield your wealth.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member, a lawyer can create a special needs trust to provide for their care without affecting their eligibility for government benefits.
  • Tax planning: If you're looking to minimize estate taxes or manage tax liabilities, a lawyer can help you create tax-advantageous trusts, such as a credit shelter trust or charitable remainder trust.
  • Charitable giving: If you want to leave a legacy through charitable donations, a lawyer can help you set up a charitable trust to ensure your donations are managed according to your wishes.
  • Business succession planning: If you own a business and want to ensure a smooth transition of ownership, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to pass the business on to your heirs or chosen successors.

Hiring a trusts lawyer early in the estate planning process ensures that your assets are protected and your wishes are clearly documented, reducing the chances of disputes after your death.

What Does a Trusts Lawyer Do?

A trusts lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help individuals create, manage, and administer trusts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting trust documents: Preparing the legal documents needed to create the trust, ensuring it is tailored to your specific goals and complies with state and federal laws.
  • Choosing the right type of trust: Assisting clients in selecting the most appropriate type of trust for their needs, whether it's a revocable trust, irrevocable trust, living trust, or special needs trust.
  • Trust administration: Guiding trustees through their legal responsibilities, including managing assets, making distributions to beneficiaries, and filing tax returns.
  • Modifying or terminating trusts: Helping modify or terminate trusts if circumstances change, such as changes in tax laws, family situations, or personal preferences.
  • Protecting beneficiaries' interests: Structuring trusts to protect the interests of beneficiaries, especially if there are concerns about financial management, disability, or dependency issues.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: Assisting clients in structuring their trusts to minimize or avoid estate taxes, ensuring more of the estate passes to beneficiaries.
  • Handling disputes: Mediating or representing clients in court if disputes arise among beneficiaries or between trustees and beneficiaries.

How Are Trusts Lawyers Paid?

Trusts lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the trust and the type of legal work involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Flat fee: For drafting basic trusts, such as revocable living trusts or special needs trusts, many lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the trust.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex trust planning, ongoing trust administration, or resolving disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: For long-term trust administration or complex estate planning cases, some lawyers may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers ongoing services.
  • Contingency fee (rare): In rare cases, particularly in disputes involving the administration of a trust, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis, getting paid only if they successfully recover funds or resolve a legal dispute in your favor.

Always discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the total cost of services.

How Much Does a Trusts Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a trusts lawyer depends on the complexity of the trust, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Basic trust creation: For simple trusts, such as revocable living trusts, fees may range from $1,000 to $3,000.
  • Complex trust creation: For sophisticated estate plans involving multiple trusts, tax planning strategies, or special needs considerations, legal fees may range from $5,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Trust administration: If you are serving as a trustee and need ongoing legal advice, hourly rates for trust administration can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Dispute resolution: Costs for litigation or mediation in trust disputes may range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.

Be sure to get a detailed cost estimate from your lawyer during the consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Trusts Lawyer

Before hiring a trusts lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with creating trusts?
Ensure the lawyer has experience drafting trusts and managing trust administration for clients with similar goals or asset structures.
  2. What types of trusts do you recommend for my situation?
Ask the lawyer to explain the different types of trusts available and which ones best suit your needs.
  3. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate of the total cost.
  4. What are the tax implications of the trust?
Ensure the lawyer can explain how the trust will affect your taxes and strategies to minimize tax liability.
  5. How long will it take to set up the trust?
Ask for a timeline for creating and finalizing the trust documents.
  6. Will you handle the trust administration?
If ongoing management is required, inquire whether the lawyer will assist with trust administration or if you'll need a separate trustee.
  7. Can you help resolve disputes if they arise?
Ask about the lawyer's experience in resolving trust disputes.

How to Check the Credibility of a Trusts Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable trusts lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for trust law experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in estate planning and trusts.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications such as Certified Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) or memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a trusts lawyer, bring the following:

  • List of assets: Prepare a list of all your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investments, retirement accounts, and personal property.
  • List of beneficiaries: Provide names and contact information of individuals or organizations you want to name as beneficiaries.
  • Existing estate planning documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, or other estate planning documents.
  • Financial information: Bring financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant financial documentation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions about the trust creation process, fees, and how the trust will protect your assets and beneficiaries.
  • Goals for the trust: Clearly outline your objectives, such as asset protection, tax minimization, or provisions for beneficiaries, so the lawyer can tailor the trust to your needs.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible legal advice for creating and managing your trust.
