Natasha took over of my case half way through. It should be a simple one when the parts sit and agree on something. It never happened, so Natasha came for the final round(s) and she kicked ass. Her energy was the best, always positive. I never felt intimidated during the meetings when she was next to me. Thank you Natasha Chesler.

The whole staff at Weldon &Rothman are extremely helpful always call back to answer any questions or concerns. Always good to have a lawyer who goes 100% My friends and family all asked, "Why did you hire a lawyer!?" Being that I am more than capable in legal matters. I said," Sometimes you need to let the "Lawyer" do the talking!" Morgan Jones is well spoken, especially in law. Wonderful demeanor easy to work with and will surely go to bat for you!! I was elated when she agreed to take my case. Very anxious about the outcome, since we were dealing with the Federal Govt. Ms. Jones made me feel secure and walked me thru the entire process. Unemployment law is tricky if you don't know. Many thank yous to you and your entire staff Ms. Jones!!!! I will certainly refer in the future.

Ms. Rubinoff represented me several years ago during an escalating employee/employer dispute with Patelco Credit Union. Her calm disposition put me at ease during a very frustating period. She asked excellent questions during the fact-finding stage. She pushed me to be candid where I was concerned that the truth might not help me. She provided me with a map for securing closure in my relationship with a former employer. I was immediately impressed with how quickly she responded to messages even if she was only advising me that she would be unavailable for a while. I was kept current on all communications between her office and the employer's attorneys. Ms. Rubinoff helped me to organize my thoughts and articulate my percieved harm. In addition she was able to help my then wife feel comfortable with the legal process as well. We did not walk away from the negotiations with large amounts of money and that never seemed to be her focus; we walked away with my dignity firmly in place having been represented in the most professional and aggressive way possible , given my individual circumstances.

I am an attorney myself and retained Mr. Cohen to represent me in a civil litigation matter. I could not have been more pleased with his representation. Without hesitation, I give him an A+ in all areas, including professionalism, competency, knowledge, responsiveness, personality, etc. Unfortunately, it's not always easy to find an attorney with these attributes, let alone one who cares about his client's circumstances and goals.

The day I entered this office I knew I landed in the right place. I was wrongfully terminated because I refused to allow the Resort I worked for to garnish my wages by illegally changing my time records. I felt broken from this situation but once I met Jenna, Amber, Arleen and the whole team they made me feel like I had the support I needed to fight back for what was right. I never once felt the need to question their opinion, strategy or decision, they always took the time to listen and give their advice. The team at ZHE Law gave me confidence and worked hard In my case, I am happy to say my case was settled! The amount of work this team put in on my behalf was worth every penny. I hope to never need their assistance again but if I do they are definitely the team I will call. Thank You everyone at ZHE, you all are amazing and do great work.

GREAT LAWYER. Manages his clients well and keeps them well-informed of everything going on. He made sure I knew exactly what the worst-case and best-case scenarios were for my case, how much each would cost, and what the likelihood of all the possibilities were. This is INCREDIBLY USEFUL information when facing expensive legal decisions. No matter how complicated the matter is, speak with Lloyd Lee; I had a great experience with him and think that others will as well. It is always nice to find someone who you can trust to fight for you and your needs - he focuses on doing quality work for all of his clients (he did for me!). Trust is the name of the game when finding the right lawyer. I trust Lloyd Lee.

Anthony Pantoni was simply the most wonderful Attorney. He acted for me single-handedly, against a team of (19 !!), so called corporate high flyers (I am English, from the UK, and travelled to the US for trial). Anthony won my quite complicated case hands down, and achieved this, well prior to conclusion of the case (was settled during trial, in my favor).. He did so by very clearly, very dramatically, and very impressively, demonstrating to the opposition that there was no way he would not prevail, in my case. Indeed, he rather tortured the witnesses during depositions, and if you are fortunate enough to have him take your case, you will see all of this, for yourself. Tremendous.

Amir was the main attorney on my case at Protection Law Group. I have never had an advocate/attorney representing me before, and I didn't know what to expect. The attorneys at Protection Law Group came highly recommended from my brother who is a lawyer. I annoyed the heck out of Amir as I asked numerous questions and wanted to be assured of things along the way. The dude was always so direct, confidence, invested, and as it turned out in the end, absolutely right about every answer/move/strategy whatever. I didn't like it at the time, but he challenged me to be patient during certain times of the process and again, he was obviously proven correct. Another thing: Amir, Kim, and Heather (in order of time spent with me) prepared me thoroughly for certain parts of the process. This group, and all three aforementioned attorneys, especially Amir are highly recommended. I am confident that Amir will produce a very strong result if you have a case.

This attorney was assigned me in 2010 in my age discrimination case against an East Bay employer. For 6 months, we conferred on a weekly basis, to identify a full palette of discriminatory actions taken by my former employer. Mr. Darahan was attentive, thorough, & helped me think through the complex issues. Together, with the help of one of the partners in the law firm, we were able to get come to a satisfactory mediated settlement with said employer. I would not hesitate to recommend him to someone fighting an age-discrimination matter.

The employment lawyers at Stevens and McMillan were amazing! I originally found them on Yelp and because of their great reviews decided to call for some legal employee-employer advice on Sexual harassment in the workplace and wrongful termination cases. I didn't expect to speak with one of the lawyers initially but I did on my first call and give them HUGE points right there! Dan listened to my story with and he explained to me how the law would work in regards to my specific situation. He gave me several different scenarios of how it could play out the best possible source of action. The conversation took about 20 minutes, and at no charge I must add. I highly recommend Daniel and his firm Stevens & McMillan Employment Lawyers based on the care I received, the patience and thoughtful observation and constructive feedback. - Jeffery

Brigette Eagan may be described as a hidden gem. She may not be as well known yet, but once she represents you in a case, you quickly realize how fortunate you are to have her on your team. Brigette represented my company in several employment discrimination matters. We faced significant liability if the plaintiffs were successful in establishing their cases. She showed excellent leadership and judgment by developing a defensive strategy and guiding her team of lawyers and paralegals throughout the course of the litigation. Ultimately we were successful thanks in large part to her persistent dedication. Brigette is always professional and treats everyone, clients, co-workers and adversaries, with dignity and respect. She is extremely responsive, returning phone calls and emails in a timely manner. I came to trust her advice and relied on her extensively. A few things really impressed me about her. First, she has a profound understanding of employment law. Although she has only been practicing for about 10 years, to listen to her talk you would think she has been doing this for decades. Second, she cares deeply for her clients. Client service is a top priority for her as evidenced by all of the tireless work she put into our cases. Third, the quality of her work is unparalled. Whether it be writing a brief, arguing a motion before a judge or taking a deposition, she is very, very competent. Brigette does not get enough credit. I hope her firm realizes what a valuable attorney they have and I look forward to continuing to work with her..

Having already known Adam as a person, I was not surprised to find that he gives meaning and weight to the term “legal service.” Adam is very friendly, client-focused, and diligent. He has great knowledge of personal injury law and courtroom procedure, and is a professional through and through. Though I did not need full-fledged legal services, I would not hesitate to put a legal matter in Adam’s hands, and I would do so with confidence that I would fully understand and be satisfied with the outcome.

Brandon helped me through a very difficult time in my life. I was just fired from job, my bills were piling up, and fiancée had left me. When I chose to sue my employer for wrongful termination, Brandon devoted hours of time discussing my case with me. He evaluated all of my possible claims, and was very honest about the likelihood success. Brandon fought hard when the my former employer sought to discredit me, and fought even harder to show my supervisor's illegal motives. When time came to settle the case I felt well informed and vindicated.

When we brought our case to Brian, we had no idea that we'd end up working with a such a spectacular Lawyer. From day one, Brian was on top of every aspect of our case. Some great qualities that stood out to us were his level of detailed knowledge on every aspect of our concerns, his friendly way of explaining how the law applies to a particular scenario and most of all, his timely communication. Brian's responsiveness went above and beyond excellent. Every time one of us had a question and sent him an email, in a matter of minutes, we'd get a thorough response back. Even if it was late at night or on a weekend. This really showed the three of us that he cared about our comfort. What was great was that he explained similar restaurant cases to us and as we were going through ours, we began to see how certain things related. We got a better understanding of how employment law works. It's nice to be a waiter and have a grasp of something so important. Also, during the course of our case, we were never left in the dark. We were always kept informed of what was going on, or if anything changed. If we had a specific timeline of events and stages the case was going through, he made sure to let us know. The most striking part of working with him was his want to help people that do not have the means or knowledge necessary to help themselves. Brian and the Firm (Fitapelli & Schaffer) clearly have the good will to stand up for the people that have the odds stacked up against them. Thank you for being there for us!

I feel blessed and proud to have had Danielle by my side. The work done on this case was paramount, so much paperwork and difficult and complex threads to follow, yet Danielle was able to make it a clear-cut win. Danielle got us our winning resolution against a company that has won against many firms in the area. In court, she was able to extract key testimony and deliver our evidence clear-cut to the judge. She also was able to get many court hesitant witnesses on board to testify for me and support me diligently. She didn't stop until we got the support we needed and explored every avenue tirelessly. She worked diligently and always kept me abreast during every phase of my case. Danielle made me feel like I was a part of the team and so cared for, as well as my witnesses. She represented me with honesty, respect, and dedication. I can tell she loves her clients and works tirelessly for them.

What a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Can Do for You

A wrongful termination lawyer specializes in representing employees who have been illegally fired or laid off from their jobs. Wrongful termination occurs when an employer violates federal or state laws, employment agreements, or public policy when dismissing an employee. These lawyers help clients understand their rights, evaluate the legality of their termination, and pursue legal action to recover damages such as lost wages, benefits, and emotional distress.

If you believe you have been wrongfully terminated, a lawyer can guide you through the complex legal process, negotiate with your former employer, and advocate on your behalf to achieve a fair resolution.

When Should I Hire a Wrongful Termination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a wrongful termination lawyer if you have been fired under circumstances that may violate the law. Common reasons include:

  • Discrimination: If you were terminated based on your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information, this may constitute illegal discrimination under federal laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Retaliation: If you were fired for reporting illegal activities, discrimination, harassment, or for participating in an investigation or lawsuit against your employer, this may be illegal retaliation.
  • Violation of Employment Contract: If you have an employment contract that outlines specific terms for termination and your employer breaches these terms, you may have a claim for wrongful termination.
  • Public Policy Violations: If you were terminated for reasons that violate public policy, such as refusing to engage in illegal activities, taking time off for jury duty, or exercising your legal rights (e.g., taking family medical leave), a lawyer can help.
  • Whistleblower Protection: If you were fired after reporting your employer's illegal activities to a government agency (whistleblowing), you may be protected under specific laws.

Hiring a lawyer promptly is crucial, as there are strict deadlines (statutes of limitations) for filing wrongful termination claims.

What Does a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Do?

A wrongful termination lawyer provides various services to help you pursue a claim against your former employer:

  • Case Evaluation: Assess the facts of your termination to determine if your employer violated any laws or breached your employment contract.
  • Legal Advice: Explain your rights under federal and state laws and advise on the best course of action.
  • Filing Claims: Assist in filing a complaint with appropriate government agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or state labor departments, if required before suing.
  • Negotiation: Engage in settlement discussions with your former employer to seek compensation without going to court.
  • Litigation: Represent you in court if a lawsuit is necessary, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Documentation and Evidence Gathering: Help collect and organize necessary documents, such as employment contracts, company policies, performance reviews, emails, and witness statements.
  • Protecting Against Retaliation: Advise you on how to handle any retaliation or further adverse actions from your former employer.

How Are Wrongful Termination Lawyers Paid?

Wrongful termination lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Contingency Fee: Many work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if you win or settle your case. Their fee is a percentage of the compensation you receive, usually ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly Rate: Some lawyers charge an hourly rate, which can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on experience and location.
  • Retainer Fee: A retainer is an upfront payment against which the lawyer bills their hourly rate. Once the retainer is exhausted, you may need to replenish it.
  • Flat Fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a severance agreement, a lawyer might charge a flat fee.

It's important to discuss payment arrangements during your initial consultation to understand how fees and expenses will be handled.

How Much Does a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Cost?

The cost varies based on the complexity of your case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee arrangement:

  • Contingency Fees: If you win or settle, the lawyer's fee will be a percentage of the award. For example, if you settle for $100,000 and the contingency fee is 30%, the lawyer receives $30,000.
  • Hourly Rates: Total costs depend on the number of hours worked. A straightforward case might require 20 hours ($4,000 to $12,000), while complex cases can exceed 100 hours.
  • Additional Expenses: Be aware of other costs such as court filing fees, costs for depositions, expert witness fees, and administrative expenses, which may be billed separately.

Always request a written fee agreement detailing all potential costs.

Top Questions to Ask a Wrongful Termination Lawyer

  1. What is your experience with wrongful termination cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience and a successful track record.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Understand the fee structure and any additional costs.
  3. What is the likely outcome of my case?
Get an honest assessment of your chances of success and potential compensation.
  4. What is the estimated timeline for resolving my case?
Know how long the process may take, from filing to settlement or trial.
  5. What steps will you take to build my case?
Understand the strategy and what will be required from you.
  6. Will my case go to trial, or can it be settled out of court?
Discuss the possibilities and implications of each option.
  7. How will you keep me informed about my case?
Ensure there will be regular updates and open communication.

How to Check the Credibility of a Wrongful Termination Lawyer

  • Verify Their License: Check your state's bar association website to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  • Review Their Experience: Look for lawyers who specialize in employment law and have specific experience with wrongful termination cases.
  • Read Client Reviews: Websites like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google Reviews can provide insights into the lawyer's reputation.
  • Ask for References: Reputable lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) indicates a focus on employment law.
  • Disciplinary Record: Ensure the lawyer has no history of disciplinary actions or complaints.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting:

  • Employment Documents: Bring your employment contract, employee handbook, offer letters, termination letter, and any severance agreements.
  • Performance Records: Include performance reviews, commendations, or any disciplinary actions.
  • Correspondence: Provide emails, texts, or memos related to your termination or any incidents leading up to it.
  • Witness Information: List names and contact information of colleagues who can support your claims.
  • Timeline of Events: Prepare a detailed account of events, including dates and descriptions of incidents.
  • Previous Complaints: If you filed complaints with HR or external agencies, bring copies.
  • Questions: Write down any questions you have about your case or the legal process.

Being well-prepared helps the lawyer assess your situation effectively and advise you on the best course of action.
