I WAS FIRED ON THE SPOT FOR A VERY WRONGFUL REASON DURING MY 60-DAY PROBATIONARY PERIOD. I UNDERSTAND VIRGINIA IS A STATE WITH “AT-WILL” LABOR LAW BUT I ALSO READ ONLINE IT IS CONSIDERED AN EMPLOYEE IS NO LONGER CONSIDERED “AT-WILL” ONCE AN EMPLOYEE SIGNS A CONTRACT PROMISING JOB SECURITY WHICH IS MY CASE. I THINK I HAVE A BREACH OF CONTRACT AND WRONGFUL TERMINATION WITH MY EMPLOYER. I EXPLAINED YET I WAS SENT AWAY PAYING $175 CASH FOR 10 MIN. CONSULTATION BEING TOLD THAT I DO NOT HAVE A CASE.

I retained Michael Handley's legal services in October of 2020. I fully trusted that he had my best interest at heart, and that he would fight to get me the best settlement, wrong. Months went by without a word from Michael Handley. When Michael finally reached out to me, it was by phone, a 50 minute chat about how, personal injury is not his field. Not even a phone call to the company the suit was against, not even a letter was sent. All this time wasted.

I came to Michael for help with my DUI and everybody that I spoke to said I would lose my license and do some jail time and he was the only one able to get me out of losing my license and doing any jail time. I would definitely recommend my friends and family to go see him for any legal advice or to hire him.

My wife and I were referred to this attorney to mediate our case, which was very contentious. We could not agree to anything, especially issues about our kids. We did not think anything could make us agree and we were facing an expensive legal fight in court. Susan was a great listener. She understood both of our positions on all of the issues and one by one got us to somehow agree on all of them. We are both very satisfied with the agreement we reached. There was some give and take but both of us agreed that the outcome was fair. Susan did a great job. She was knowledgeable and made both of us comfortable.

I recently used Almer Martins as my real estate attorney for a property purchase. I consider myself to be a high maintenance client. I want all the information and I want it as soon as it’s available, and patience is not one of my virtues. Albert did an excellent job balancing my need for information with his ability to resolve issues with the other attorney without having to involve me. He was very professional and friendly at the same time. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing a real estate attorney and won’t hesitate to use him again if the need arises. P. Chasco

This experience with Judd Azulay was horrible. He took tens of thousands of dollars (originally he wanted $250,000 as - according to him, there was a way to "invest" and get legal status that way), but he settled for another way, which resulted in creating and unnecessary huge complication to the case and a made a detrimental order and decision on the case by INS. He himself never was available to represent the client but either sent a less competent partner to the hearing or young just starting out inexperienced attorneys. None of whom ever even reviewed the file, and were completely confused when questioned by official at hearings! It all came to a screeching halt when their incompetence yielded an order for deportation for their client, and when that client chose to leave Azulays practice and seek another counsel, (and an extremely expensive and extensive appeal process- due to THEIR wrong doing)Azulay wouldn't release the files unless the client paid nearly $10,000 just to get their own file to transfer. Horrible attorneys along with much of the office staff. Wouldn't recommend them them to worst enemy.

Our law firm was sued for the inappropriate actions of a supervisor, which made us liable for their mistakes. The person(s) making the allegations were complicit in the inappropriate behavior which made the case not so clear cut. Unfortunately, we were not strategic in our offer to settle this case. We got sucked into the chaos of litigation, and ultimately both side's attorneys did VERY well. We are not completely blaming Ward, however, if we had been given more realistic outcomes, costs, and better advice on a settlement offer upfront, this would have made a big difference in our decisions related to the case. It has taken over a year to write this review. We were hoping to hear from Ward on how we might be able to even things out from the hard feelings of just how costly this case was to settle right before trial along with all the fees to get there. As they say, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". For us, a better settlement offer upfront in the case would have been the prevention and the VERY large amount we paid to later settle,,, on top of the hefty legal fees was the POUND of cure,,, which still leaves us with a sting!

Bryan and his team were awesome!! Even with not being able to go to their office in person I was still treated like I was valued. After the initial consultation I was convinced I needed to hire Bryan and his team. Everyone on his team played their role wonderfully. I never had any trouble getting emails answered or appointments made. Not sure how many clients they have but I felt like I was their only one because of how much attention I received. Bryan is a down to earth lawyer who i genuinely enjoyed talking to. With his instructions my case went smoothly and the outcome was better than I had hoped. He was upfront with all of my options and not just out to make money. Thanks Bryan!!

DO NOT HIRE THIS FIRM!!!! I hired Kate and Bryan for an employment case. Upon our first meeting Kate made it very clear she believed in open and prompt communication. She told me I had a great case. I advised I would give our meeting some thought and let her know about retaining her. A few days later I get an non egagement letter pressuring me about hiring the firm. I was worried and decided to hire her to represent me, despite her ignoring my e-mails/questions days prior. She takes my thousands of dollars and then it becomes harder to get in contact with her! It takes three weeks to schedule a simple phone meeting. Anytime I had questions, I had to wait over a week to speak to her. They overcharged me by over a $1,000 and it took a week to get my issue resolved. I sought her advice about litigation and she agreed it was a good course of action. And that she would move forward with a plan of action. Three weeks later she hadn't done anything with my case or answered my e-mails. Then out-of-the blue I get an email stating she has terminated me as a client because she is too busy to handle my case?! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SO CALLED "LAWFIRM" they will waste your time and under deliver.

I am giving two stars because Alex her para legal was GREAT! I hired her to help me with obtaining uncontested admin papers for my son's estate on August 4, 2020. I ran out of retainer trying to get her to actually execute that request and here it is January 21, 2021 and she has not gotten me admin yet. I've had to tell her that the courts would not accept a surety bond via email. She told me the delay was because the Forsyth County Judge had lost his seat. That did not happen until December 31st. So really that wasn't the delay and it was not the truth when she said it at the beginning of December. The truth is that she dropped the ball on me, billed me for questions I had to ask three and four times for an answer, even though my initial query asked for step by step details. I had to ask her three times for the amount of the surety bond before she actually sent me the paper work to accomplish that. She would "Be on Leave" twice when I had critical "What's going on with my case" encounters. The email exchanges were not at all professional sounding, more like a casual exchanges, one where she misspelled my sons name and another where she said she filed in Rabun County, when she had actually filed in Forsyth. All in all she ran through the retainer and didn't accomplish even the most simple task of getting me the uncontested admin papers for my son's estate. I wouldn't use her ever again.

I am the wife of the defendant Ms. Sperber is suppose to be representing. My husband case is a resentencing and she has went to court several times unprepared and clueless about the case. One of her excuses was she didn’t know how to contact my husband even though he is in prison and have been for 15 years, makes no sense as an attorney. She also refuses to speak with my husband by phone and says she will only communicate by letter through U.S. mail, and even then it will be brief because she is not his pen pal. She has been completely rude by way of her letters of communication, which only was extended AFTER my husband put in a complaint to the residing Judge. Her performance has prolonged my husband’s resentencing case, and he has now put in a request for a new public defender. How this rude and incompetent attorney is still a part of the Bar and licensed is beyond me. Many of the complaints on her from several people are pretty much all the same. Please proceed with caution if you have hired this woman as your attorney, something is very off with her and she seem to be able to do more harm than good with the cases she represents. I would have given her “no stars” but that’s not a option.

Katrina did a wonderful job giving the opposing counsel whatever they wanted. She charged me $200 consulting fee. After I retained her as my attorney, I never saw or heard from her until a year and a half later she arrived late for our meeting to prep me for my first deposition ever, it was to be on camera. She met with me for no more than 10 min because her next appointment arrived. After 12-13 hours in mediation she allowed the person we were suing to go home and rest because he was exhausted. While we were to go through his assistant with any settlement offers and his assistant would call the him from his bed while we sat and suffer until midnight. She was reading my evidence while we were in mediation, asking me questions as if it was her first time looking at them. She was FaceTiming an event being held for her, giving a speech in the middle of our mediation. She never once defended our demands the entire process. All she wanted to do was settle on any amount and agreed to any requests the apposing council wanted without even asking me. In our mediation she seemed to be “asking” for our offers rather than demanding our offers. After losing this case, she demanded I sign a non-compete and allowed the defendant to continue running their eligal business out of their home.

I contacted Atty Mochkatel although she did have a bad review. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. She called me back from my message and the conversation went downhill really quick. Her tone was very dry and I felt like I was being attacked for sharing my experiences/reason for the call which she requested. After feeling very defensive of real experiences I had I stopped our conversation and told her thank you for your time. She sent me an email immediately apologizing for her communication and that her mother was sick. I emailed her back and let her know she should request an associate to assist her when she is unable to perform her duties. I felt she was unprofessional and uncaring. The opposite of what I am looking for. She emailed me again and had her associate call me. However, it is too late. First impressions are lasting ones.

WARNING DO NOT HIRE!!! I initially intended to consult with another lawyer at the firm that was unavailable so I was referred to Ms. Mochkatel. Over the phone she seemed very willing and eager to help but when I met with her that was not the case. She was very negative and condescending. She said I really didn't have a strong case and probably wouldn't get alot of compensation which was fine with me but to her it seemed pointless when to me it was about right and wrong. I thought lawyers were supposed to be positive and uplifting? When the meeting was over she told me she would consult with her colleagues and give me a call the next day. I never heard from her again and I even called twice leaving messages. Instead I had to email her and request she send my paperwork back to me so that I could look elswhere for representation. Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with Attorney Scarry. She was really eager to look into my case, however when I called her and left messages that I was terminated from my job, she never returned my phone calls. I called the office and her cellphone, which she gave to me numerous times, I was in distress that my life was falling apart due to a loss of my job and career, and she never returned my calls. It was very unfortunate and sad experience for me, and I just don't understand why such a respectable and well known attorney can't just be up front and say that she was not interested in my case, instead of giving me false hopes, and not calling me back when I needed her the most! I hope that she will never experience in her lifetime what I experienced, the loss of the job and the career!

What a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Can Do for You

A wrongful termination lawyer specializes in representing employees who have been illegally fired or laid off from their jobs. Wrongful termination occurs when an employer violates federal or state laws, employment agreements, or public policy when dismissing an employee. These lawyers help clients understand their rights, evaluate the legality of their termination, and pursue legal action to recover damages such as lost wages, benefits, and emotional distress.

If you believe you have been wrongfully terminated, a lawyer can guide you through the complex legal process, negotiate with your former employer, and advocate on your behalf to achieve a fair resolution.

When Should I Hire a Wrongful Termination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a wrongful termination lawyer if you have been fired under circumstances that may violate the law. Common reasons include:

  • Discrimination: If you were terminated based on your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information, this may constitute illegal discrimination under federal laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Retaliation: If you were fired for reporting illegal activities, discrimination, harassment, or for participating in an investigation or lawsuit against your employer, this may be illegal retaliation.
  • Violation of Employment Contract: If you have an employment contract that outlines specific terms for termination and your employer breaches these terms, you may have a claim for wrongful termination.
  • Public Policy Violations: If you were terminated for reasons that violate public policy, such as refusing to engage in illegal activities, taking time off for jury duty, or exercising your legal rights (e.g., taking family medical leave), a lawyer can help.
  • Whistleblower Protection: If you were fired after reporting your employer's illegal activities to a government agency (whistleblowing), you may be protected under specific laws.

Hiring a lawyer promptly is crucial, as there are strict deadlines (statutes of limitations) for filing wrongful termination claims.

What Does a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Do?

A wrongful termination lawyer provides various services to help you pursue a claim against your former employer:

  • Case Evaluation: Assess the facts of your termination to determine if your employer violated any laws or breached your employment contract.
  • Legal Advice: Explain your rights under federal and state laws and advise on the best course of action.
  • Filing Claims: Assist in filing a complaint with appropriate government agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or state labor departments, if required before suing.
  • Negotiation: Engage in settlement discussions with your former employer to seek compensation without going to court.
  • Litigation: Represent you in court if a lawsuit is necessary, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Documentation and Evidence Gathering: Help collect and organize necessary documents, such as employment contracts, company policies, performance reviews, emails, and witness statements.
  • Protecting Against Retaliation: Advise you on how to handle any retaliation or further adverse actions from your former employer.

How Are Wrongful Termination Lawyers Paid?

Wrongful termination lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Contingency Fee: Many work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if you win or settle your case. Their fee is a percentage of the compensation you receive, usually ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly Rate: Some lawyers charge an hourly rate, which can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on experience and location.
  • Retainer Fee: A retainer is an upfront payment against which the lawyer bills their hourly rate. Once the retainer is exhausted, you may need to replenish it.
  • Flat Fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a severance agreement, a lawyer might charge a flat fee.

It's important to discuss payment arrangements during your initial consultation to understand how fees and expenses will be handled.

How Much Does a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Cost?

The cost varies based on the complexity of your case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee arrangement:

  • Contingency Fees: If you win or settle, the lawyer's fee will be a percentage of the award. For example, if you settle for $100,000 and the contingency fee is 30%, the lawyer receives $30,000.
  • Hourly Rates: Total costs depend on the number of hours worked. A straightforward case might require 20 hours ($4,000 to $12,000), while complex cases can exceed 100 hours.
  • Additional Expenses: Be aware of other costs such as court filing fees, costs for depositions, expert witness fees, and administrative expenses, which may be billed separately.

Always request a written fee agreement detailing all potential costs.
