This is an arrogant overrated attorney, who did very little with my personal injury case over a period of eight months. After failing to get insurance information, he reneged on our original agreement, and wanted a $10,000 fee instead. Errors were made in mailing documents, and the limited amount of work that was done was dilatory and shoddy. Hiring this attorney was a total waste of time.

He was extremely knowledgeable regarding my situation and gave me pertinent and sensible advice. He provided me expert information that reenforced that I was taking the best course of action. he aided me in my problem and the court date went smoothly. I had a landlord/tenant issue and things worked out well under my circumstances.

My firm hired AJ Bosman to assist in locating a satellite facility in the United States. She and her staff spent hours assisting VP development and research locate the perfect spot near an international border. Unfortunately, while horseback riding in NNY, some locals to affront to our foreign staff members and their children. Luckily, Ms. Bosman was able to navigate the legal system and afforded the children their EU (constitutional rights) in this country. We are much relieved to have Ms. Bosman on staff, as our attorney and look forward to future plans. She was a breath of normal in what appears to be a somewhat inhospitable area.

My family and I have worked with Patrick for many years, and find him to be the most honest and forthright attorney I have ever met. Patrick always provides me with an honest assessment of whatever issue I bring to him, even if his assessment is that I don't need to hire an attorney. Patrick's practice is one of the very few businesses that has survived all these years on Third Avenue because it is a family business and a part of the Bay Ridge community. They really treat everyone like a neighbor and truly care about our neighborhood. Patrick is and always will be my family's first stop in a crisis. Even if he doesn't have an answer, he always knows where to find one.

I retained this attorney to take over an existing litigation case. From the beginning I was displeased with this attorney's behavior. He is extremely rude, thinks he knows everything and was constantly belittling me. The first time I asked to terminate services and receive my retainer back, he outright refused, insisting that I give him 2 more weeks so he can prove to me that he "is a good lawyer." For those 2 weeks he was avoiding my phone calls until one day I had enough and went to his office, requesting my retainer back in person. He was still giving me a hard time over returning the retainer and kept changing the amount withheld. His clerk first told me $750 would be held back, then the attorney raised it to $2700.00. I disputed this amount and sent him a formal letter of termination and told him that I would possibly seek litigation and other remedies to acquire my rightful refund. It was after receiving my letter that he sent me a letter offering only $6261.00. From $750 that his clerk told me to $3739.00 is a huge difference. To date I have yet to receive anything in regards to a refund and the matter has been handed over to the Brooklyn Bar Association and 2nd District Grievance Committee. I do not recommend this attorney to anyone.

Should be zero stars. A complete waste of time, at either office. The receptionist wouldn't let me answer her questions, then transferred me to someone who was incredibly rude and hung up on me. A call to their other office to try to get help showed they had already spread garbage and lies about me. I am a 100% disabled veteran with a service connected disability and suffer from emotional dysregulation, among other things. This business is complete and total garbage. Businesses like this make me regret my military service. Avoid, even if you have to pay. These people do not give a single crap about you.

Renee Mochkatel wasted my time. Unfortunately I was referred to this firm at the time because the other lawyers don’t work Ventura County cases. I must say it has been a complete waste of time dealing with these people. It took her two months to get back to me for an incident report just to say that she couldn’t help me and she claims she has sent me many emails, which is not true because I have every receipt listed. I’m extremely disappointed in her lack of professionalism. I would not recommend her to work with anybody. She has no quality of care and it seems like everybody in this firm Have the same tendencies. Luckily, I found Attourney who has communicated with me and is willing to help me I thought I should go with him because I was referring huge mistake on my end!

Deeply disappointed. My response is strictly based on my experience which does not predict how your case will be handled but could be a deciding factor for you. Unresponsive. I have called and left messages and emails and voicemails weekly for a months, it’s been almost a year haven’t heard back from my representation since October of 2021 but , I requested representation back in March 2021. My last message/conversation I received , I was advised paperwork would be filled in order to proceed further. The administrative assistant are always pleasant but, no response is ever return. My calls go straight to voicemail now no one picks, up. At, this point I’m not sure about my case and there’s no one who seems to have interest in seeing that, I can have this proceed further as I was promised in March 2021. Having promises of documents being filled would help my family but tremendously but after a year no response I’m not sure if my claim matters or even if anything ever happened to begin with. I’ll send an update so that you can make an informed decision especially if you have a family who depends on your support.

and not enough substance to our consultation. His assistant Wendy is clever; she'll never let you get a question in edge-wise, so she can't later be accused of lying to you. Their engagement letter is pretty much boilerplate/generic...never did we discuss how much I might recover. This guy Ricotta is probably the laziest person on the planet - he asks for $15k retainer, and doesn't even address what you want.

Whatever you do, do not hire this law firm. Tom ricotta is as crooked as they come and should be held criminally responsible for his business practices. You’ll end up with 10x more problems than you started off with. He will take your retainer, and then work against you in a way that appears that he’s working on your case in your best interest when in reality, he’s working against you. Eg; file incorrectly, and wait until the last minute to present a case that will get dismissed for reasons he expects you to not understand. I hired Tom ricotta on retainer and after submitting payment, he completely disappeared. He did everything in his power to malinger the submission after being completely unresponsive for weeks and months at a time. I was still working for the employer at the time and he did everything in his power to help and let them harm me as hard as they wanted without even answering/returning a call or email. He intentionally left out key aspects of the legal argument (wrongful termination, unpaid wages etc..) and strictly focused on submitting subpar discrimination case in this undermining Manner that would get dismissed. I had to spend the entire time getting attacked and retaliated on by the employer while he disappeared and allowed them, then he tried to help them get away with all these different tactics expecting me to not to understand. He waited until the last minute to dump projects in me with work he was supposed to be doing. He would surprise me with requirements at the last minute intentionally, hoping I wouldn’t be able to gather or produce what was needed to officially prove my claims or produce something that he could justify being my fault. That’s just one example of the underlying theme. The guy completely would try and mess up the case and undermine me and blame me. His intention the whole time was to burn the statute of limitations and submit a bogus claim that he understands will get dismissed but it looks like he’s fighting in your best interests. He knows what he’s doing, because he tried everything in his power to avoid me until the last minute so that after he was done blowing the case, I wouldn’t have enough time to hire someone else to legitimately address it. He works for the employer and what he does is criminal, he understands what he’s doing and he also understands how hard it will be for the people he scams to come after him or do anything to fix the damage he caused to the case in time, if you’re smart enough to even figure it out. He will blow you off and avoid you until the last minute until he can submit a case that will get dismissed and still get credit for making pretend he represented you on a case that just didn’t work out, instead of what really happened, which is he work both sides at the same time, breaching his fiduciary responsibilities and committing fraud. Good luck trying to get in touch with him while it’s happening. Tom ricotta claims he represents employees but instead he prays in the vulnerable client base that are in need of assistance. He hopes you won’t understand the legal proceeding or anything to do with law so he can take advantage if you. I swear on everything holy it felt like I employed their lawyer because of so many factors, such as the way he would undermine my claims after he took my money and spent months pretending to be working in my case. It felt like he was relaying information about me and the case to the employer the way the employer would react to information I spoke to him about immediately. Tom ricotta is the biggest con artist and he uses his knowledge of law to take advantage of people that employ him clearly expecting them to be unaware of what he's actually doing. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT hire Tom ricotta

Mr Benedetto represented me in my divorce. My case had international elements, and I had previously consulted another lawyer who told me that even serving my foreign spouse would be very difficult. Mr. Benedetto got this important task done easily and quickly. Right away, he had some creative ideas that I would not have thought of, and that I believe most lawyers would not have thought of. These creative ideas led to a very good settlement for me, whereas less creative thinking would have probably left me with very little. He was knowledgeable throughout and struck a good balance between consulting me as to what I wished done, but advising me on what would be best. I never felt he forced my hand, but still, he had a way of easing me into what would be most in my interest for me to do. I would say he is a peacemaker at heart, which is not what one expects from a lawyer. But I feel it is the best approach in family law cases, and in my case led to settlement. The opposing lawyer was always trying to fight, and to escalate situations that were already anger provoking. Mr. Benedetto had a great way of calming the situation at various junctions where, without his input, I think a settlement might have become impossible due to the anger of everyone else involved, including the other lawyer! Another real plus is that he is very easy to get in touch with. I have heard nightmarish stories from friends who hired other lawyers, who were not responsive to their calls. Mr. Benedetto was very responsive and available. He really made me feel as if my case was special. I'm sure he makes every client feel this way, and I highly recommend him as a great lawyer, ethical person and just an all around good man.

Wasn’t too impressed with this one. While I received what would be considered a normal amount for my claim, I felt like it was more 3 against 1 instead of 2 against 2. If you are my lawyer I expect you to be on my side and not tell me how much you agree with the opposing party and just regurgitate what the other lawyer said. If I wanted the other lawyer’s advice I would just hire the other lawyer. Also, telling me I am not “entitled” to certain things just makes me irritated. I wouldn’t use him again.

When my employer was needlessly stalling returning me to work after I was injured on the job, it looked as if I might never have my job back. ( More than a 14 months had passed since my doctor had released me to return to work .) The employer was making ridiculous excuses and hiring employees at a lower salary to fill my position. Missed appointments, low effort, seemed to not want to be bothered with my case while taking my money and then telling me I was probably in trouble and would talk to me later. This without knowing all the facts, or wanting to hear them. He was also snippy and harsh when it wasn’t necessary. Trust the low ratings. He’s no longer interested in fighting for his clients.

I made a lot of poor decisions as a young adult. Consequently I was convicted of driving under the influence on three different occasions spanning from the time I was 18 to 29 years old, resulting in a “lifetime suspension” of my driving privileges. I thought my life was over. But I kept grinding. Eventually I got sober. I changed my life and stayed out of trouble. Ten years later I was eligible for reinstatement. I contacted Mr. Weiner and asked for help. I told him my story and he never once talked down to me, He was very pleasant to deal with. And he gave me clear instructions on what paperwork he would need and what we would need to do to prove I was rehabilitated. I had my hearing and the judge agreed that I deserved to get my license back. I’m so grateful to Jon and his team for all their help.

I selected Jay Rothman's firm based on a recommendation from a former co-worker who had successfully litigated our former employer. My case had some issues and a former lawyer from his firm had started my case and left in the middle. Jay personally took over my case even though it wasn't a huge one and he got me a fair settlement under the circumstances. He has a dedicated team and is very intimidating in deposition. Understanding that employment cases can take 1 or 2 years to settle depending on how long the court prescribes for case length Jay is aggressive and he gets it done. He is very busy but someone will always answer your questions and address your concerns. You can trust Jay, he has been at this a very long time and he knows his stuff. I highly recommend him.

I retained the services of Esperanza Anderson on June 1, 2023, expecting professional legal support. When I explained my case to her, she was excited to take it and sold me on trusting her. However, my experience was extremely disappointing, especially because she had seemed so trustworthy at first. Ms. Anderson displayed a blatant lack of communication throughout the process, which left me feeling stranded and frustrated. She said she preferred text over calls but then rarely responded, and then completely stopped responding out of nowhere. I was strung along with no substantial progress on my case, nor was I updated on any developments. Despite my attempts to reach out to her or her office and seek clarifications, my concerns were not addressed. The pinnacle of my disappointment came when our retainer was terminated unceremoniously without any explanation from Ms. Anderson. This not only disrupted my legal proceedings but also cost me time and resources in finding a new attorney. I felt disregarded and disrespected as a client. I would not recommend Ms. Anderson's services to anyone in need of legal assistance.

This attorney let a juror sleep through a trial and did not let the judge know. He was not helpful at all and only cares about himself. I would not recommend using this guy he will get you railroaded. He let me know he is overwhelmed with cases. Please do not use this guy! Find someone who actually does their job and wants to help people! If you want to be ignored..... pick him!!!

What a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Can Do for You

A wrongful termination lawyer specializes in representing employees who have been illegally fired or laid off from their jobs. Wrongful termination occurs when an employer violates federal or state laws, employment agreements, or public policy when dismissing an employee. These lawyers help clients understand their rights, evaluate the legality of their termination, and pursue legal action to recover damages such as lost wages, benefits, and emotional distress.

If you believe you have been wrongfully terminated, a lawyer can guide you through the complex legal process, negotiate with your former employer, and advocate on your behalf to achieve a fair resolution.

When Should I Hire a Wrongful Termination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a wrongful termination lawyer if you have been fired under circumstances that may violate the law. Common reasons include:

  • Discrimination: If you were terminated based on your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information, this may constitute illegal discrimination under federal laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Retaliation: If you were fired for reporting illegal activities, discrimination, harassment, or for participating in an investigation or lawsuit against your employer, this may be illegal retaliation.
  • Violation of Employment Contract: If you have an employment contract that outlines specific terms for termination and your employer breaches these terms, you may have a claim for wrongful termination.
  • Public Policy Violations: If you were terminated for reasons that violate public policy, such as refusing to engage in illegal activities, taking time off for jury duty, or exercising your legal rights (e.g., taking family medical leave), a lawyer can help.
  • Whistleblower Protection: If you were fired after reporting your employer's illegal activities to a government agency (whistleblowing), you may be protected under specific laws.

Hiring a lawyer promptly is crucial, as there are strict deadlines (statutes of limitations) for filing wrongful termination claims.

What Does a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Do?

A wrongful termination lawyer provides various services to help you pursue a claim against your former employer:

  • Case Evaluation: Assess the facts of your termination to determine if your employer violated any laws or breached your employment contract.
  • Legal Advice: Explain your rights under federal and state laws and advise on the best course of action.
  • Filing Claims: Assist in filing a complaint with appropriate government agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or state labor departments, if required before suing.
  • Negotiation: Engage in settlement discussions with your former employer to seek compensation without going to court.
  • Litigation: Represent you in court if a lawsuit is necessary, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Documentation and Evidence Gathering: Help collect and organize necessary documents, such as employment contracts, company policies, performance reviews, emails, and witness statements.
  • Protecting Against Retaliation: Advise you on how to handle any retaliation or further adverse actions from your former employer.

How Are Wrongful Termination Lawyers Paid?

Wrongful termination lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Contingency Fee: Many work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if you win or settle your case. Their fee is a percentage of the compensation you receive, usually ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly Rate: Some lawyers charge an hourly rate, which can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on experience and location.
  • Retainer Fee: A retainer is an upfront payment against which the lawyer bills their hourly rate. Once the retainer is exhausted, you may need to replenish it.
  • Flat Fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a severance agreement, a lawyer might charge a flat fee.

It's important to discuss payment arrangements during your initial consultation to understand how fees and expenses will be handled.

How Much Does a Wrongful Termination Lawyer Cost?

The cost varies based on the complexity of your case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee arrangement:

  • Contingency Fees: If you win or settle, the lawyer's fee will be a percentage of the award. For example, if you settle for $100,000 and the contingency fee is 30%, the lawyer receives $30,000.
  • Hourly Rates: Total costs depend on the number of hours worked. A straightforward case might require 20 hours ($4,000 to $12,000), while complex cases can exceed 100 hours.
  • Additional Expenses: Be aware of other costs such as court filing fees, costs for depositions, expert witness fees, and administrative expenses, which may be billed separately.

Always request a written fee agreement detailing all potential costs.
