I hired their services 6 months ago for a simple domestic case because I wanted to have good communication with the lawyer, I sent them all the evidence to dismiss the case and I have been waiting for months for them to do something. After collecting the money they DO NOT respond or help you with ANYTHING, they don't even respond to calls or messages. Communication is IMPOSSIBLE, I paid 8 thousand dollars and I'm still waiting for a message to be answered. LA COMUNICACIÓN con estas personas es implemented IMPOSIBLE

They charge you ,tell you what you wanna hear. Then when it comes time to hold them to what they said , they backtrack and change what was originally stated, they build you up to think you have a case, and that you just need to wait for this 1 or 2 things to happen/not happen and when those events come ,he turns around and tells you sorry I can't do anything now good luck, even though its what he initially told you to wait for, for your case . Absolutely not for workers and nor the little people.

Michelle LaMar is the most knowledgeable, intuitive, upfront, ten steps ahead attorney I've met in my 48 years in business. I literally would just say "HERE ARE THE REINS, you lead the way" if I ever were to need an attorney of her caliber. I sat in with a colleague and I almost asked her for an autograph as she just oozed superstar attorney..just my opinion and she did win his case.

I am giving Andrea Cartwright a bad review. Coming out of an abusive marriage. I put my trust in her to help get past the hurdle of my situation. Sometimes you have nowhere else to turn. She was blaming me for a decision. I made in my marriage I thought was right since we were married. But in turn she made it even harder to confide in her as an attorney. Very unempathetic, dismissive, rude and filing paperwork incorrectly. Failure to meet our deadline and If you are going through a divorce I recommend you do your research. Find someone who specialize in divorce cases. Andrea Cartwright was out of town a lot with other cases and my case was being stretched. I felt like I was being disregarded. I thought going to her as a professional that she would guide me, give me advice through my traumatic experience. Didn't return my email or phone call making my case not one of her priorities. It was so unfortunate for me and costly in my case which was never resolved.

EVERYTIME I TURN IN THE DOCUMENTS REQUESTED THERE IS A MINIMUM OF A TWO MONTH WAIT BEFORE KRISTIN SNYDER HER ASSOCIATE WILL CALL AND ASK FOR THE SAME DOCUMENTS. SHE USUALLY WILL SAY SHE HAS NOT GOT THEM. I HAVE HAD TO COMPLETE A TOTAL OF 3 CREDIT COUNSELINGS BECAUSE THEY EXPIRE EVERY 180 DAYS. Epic bad experience/waste of money, time and energy. To be succinct his staff couldn't be more rude and unhelpful which is actually the highlight of his practice. I made at least 13 unreturned phone calls to his office. With an impending hearing I felt desperate and disconnected from my case which involved my home. As my court date drew near I had no recourse but to call the Florida Bar. They were extremely professional and helpful and explained that they would send him a letter (which would take about 10 days). When I explained that my hearing was in less time than that they asked me to hold and called his office immediately. They returned to the line and indicated that he would be calling me. Surprisingly, he did. He was very agitated that I had the gaul to call the Bar. It was obvious that the only reason he called was because he was being exposed for the unprofessional he is. I wouldn't hire this guy to detail my car, much less do important legal work. You are the reason people group lawyers in with used car salesmen.

Had student loans from National Collegiate Trust. Was told that we could go to trail, but persuaded me to agree to a settlement and he would set up a payment plan with the court. Lo and behold, the payment plan never went through and I began to get garnished. He then wanted me to agree to a payment plan with National Collegiate Trust! He had me settle and put me into a position with no leverage. Other attorneys have told me that they would have had the lawsuits dismissed. Now I'm up a creek without a paddle. Do yourself a favor and don't hire this guy.

I’m a 100% Disabled Combat Wounded Veteran that was in a coma (documented) when a supposed case was brought against me. I explained to this firm I was never served nor given my due process of law and still have never seen the supposed judgment and they still harass me and try to garnish my wages from a supposed judgment over 8 years ago. Then they go after my new wife who just legally immigrated here 3 years ago and has nothing to do with this at all. Due to my disability I needed more time to have someone help with the paperwork that is being sent to me incomplete and it’s repeatedly sent back saying not returned in time. Profiting off soldiers that have absolutely no way to defend themselves is a great business model. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should… P.S. I never consulted Michael Collins but this review requires you to fill every block.

Atty. Garner reviewed a lease last year and told us we were fine for the next 5-10 years which was the new lease conditions. However, she neglected to do her research in the lease and we were informed by the opposing attorney that the new lease was not "witnessed by two people", so it wasn't valid. Because of this, we had to move out of our business location. Furthermore, the attorney didn't have the courtesy to contact us toward the end of this issue and had sent us a letter telling us that they were "no longer being represented by their firm". We paid her $450.00 to have a paralegal draft up a letter and a few phone conversations. FIND AN EXPERIENCED ATTORNEY WHO KNOWS THE LAW AND WON'T LEAVE YOU IN A BIND!!!!!!

I was not impressed during my initial consultation with Mrs. Baldinelli. She was disheveled, unorganized and a hot mess. Two attorney friends assured me she was a good lawyer and knew her stuff. Against my gut feelings, I hired her to represent me for a child support modification. The outcome was abysmal. She appeared in court unprepared, requested documents from me only the day before which did not give me time to prepare them as it was a work day. She did not oppose untruths thrown out by the opposing counsel. She did not fight for me at all in the court room and it was as if she had a "deal" already worked out with opposing counsel. She has cost me way more money that I will ever see in child support. It was very sad and I would be ashamed of my life's work if this is how it culminated. The opposing counsel chewed her up and spat her out while she sat there dumbfounded and unable to collect a response much less put together any credible arguments. Run, don't walk away from this attorney.

My young daughter was mistreated at a local hospital and she asked for my help in locating an attorney to represent her in an alleged malpractice lawsuit again the hospital and its two surgeons. After a lot of searching, we opted to retain Mr. Borison who appeared to be a very competent attorney. He agreed to take my daughter's case, and she formally retained his services. He appeared to be very professional and compassionate about my daughter's mistreatment. After gathering the medical reports and other pertinent facts, he issued a professionally written demand letter to the hospital and doctors and told us that he would have to wait for their response. After several months of no activity, he called my daughter and told her that he did not realize that CA had a two year statute of limitations for filing a medical malpractice action in the Superior Court. Further, he told her that because of not filing the action timely, that she would not be legally able to pursue further recourse against the hospital or the two surgeons. He offered no compensation or other relief to my daughter, other than to say he was sorry. I wrote Mr. Borison asking him to consider compensating her for his oversight. He never responded. We are consulting with other attorneys concerning other options now to get my daughter the compensation she so deserves for almost losing her life (according to her family doctor) at the hands of the hospital and doctors. Not understanding the statute of limitations appears to be a serious oversight. I am a licensed (by the United States Treasury) enrolled agent representing clients before tax agencies nationally and internationally. Being intimately familiar with statutes of limitation are an integral aspect of my profession. It was reasonable for my daughter and I to expect the same of Mr. Borison. Unfortunately, we were wrong in believing this. My daughter and I have spoken with other attorneys who have confirmed the statute of limitations, and affirmed that my daughter has no legal grounds to pursue recourse against the hospital or the doctors.

LETTER OF COMPLAINT: OF THE THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY, DANIEL HANEY I think Mr. Haney took advantage of the situation, in that, I was representing myself. For instance, I turned over my entire defense presentation, to Mr. Haney, who I met on the phone 5 days, before my trial. When he called me, he seemed quite nice. I remember, he apologized to me “three times,” for having just, received my case. Also, he said, that he was, "very sorry," he “could not, dismiss my case"… "Because, it's just too late, to dismiss it. Being only days before my trial. It's just, Not Possible,” he told me, for him to dismiss my case, that soon, before my trial. I thought it was odd, for a D.A. to apologize, to me. But I took it, as a hopeful sign. Not that he would be a pushover; Just that I would have a fair trial. I assured him, that "It’s alright! I don’t want you to dismiss it. I'm looking forward to going to trial. All I really want, is an opportunity to speak my defense. And that is more important to me, than winning or losing. I've wanted to speak my case, from the very beginning, since, no law enforcement person, had yet, allowed me to do so." Mr. Haney, congratulated me. And he encouraged me, heartily, for defending myself. He said, he encourages everyone to defend themselves, if they feel like, they have something to say, about their situation. I felt relieved and greatly encouraged, that this “kind man,” would be my D.A.! Now, I’ll just make a few points about my trial… 1. I sent Mr. Haney, all my defense presentation/discovery, as quickly, as I could complete my documentation. I also, sent him, my three part video… Including…. a. Evidence of “Police Tampering.” On an unplayable,” DVD, that I had “finally,” received, from the Heber Springs Police Department, after 5 months of requesting it. It was “alledgedly,” the Body Cam Video, from my arrest. b. Self videos…taken before my arrest, demonstrating my intentions of staying safe and my conscientiousness as a safe driver. c. My testimony, as I felt it needed to presented. 2. I didn’t receive any discovery, from Mr. Haney, before my trial. However, 4 day afterwards, I noticed that he did email me, the body cam footage, that I had yet to obtain, myself. It was sent to him by Samantha Tharp, the Chief of Police’s Secretary. So Mr. Haney, emailed me the 3 video files, the day before my trial. But only "One Day," to receive something like this….that could make or break my case…was far too short of notice, for me, or for anyone. Had I received it sooner…it would have broadened my defense, considerably. The Body Cam Evidence was "Highly Edited"…And it was 100% edited, in the officer’s favor. 3. So, the District Attorney, received it, from the Chief of Police’s secretary, Samantha Tharp. The 3 video files, that have her name on each. Along with the information, that they were "last modified,” right before my trial. It's impossible to summarize, all the editing done, to this footage. It was a huge undertaking, by more than one officer. It is 100% against me, and of course, all in the officer’s best interests. It was “fairly,” evident, that this “edited version,” was done.. After…the arresting officer, had seen my defense video, that I made for court. Because great care was taken, to erase everything, that I “correctly,” said in my testimony. The "Editors," created, a video, that made me appear stupid, and guilty, of being high. It’s almost, entirely faked in many ways. And this was "allowed," to be played in court. Without the judge allowing, my own, defense video, to be played. So, the police tampered video, was the D.A.'s main offense in his prosecution. This highly offensive and faked discovery of body cam evidence. If the body worn camera video footage, was unedited, it would have proved everything, I said, in my video defense

Daniel helped us through two cases, one involving a district court and the other against Human Services. In the negotiation during a criminal trial he negotiated that I be prosecuted under an Act where I don't plead guilty and the charges dismissed upon completion of my probation instead of having a record for the rest of my life. The strategy worked to get charges that were pending from DHS dismissed. He is a thorough attorney, and I am thankful he took our case.

This guy is a scam artist! Be aware, Keith Mathews deletes negative comments off of Google. Keith charged me 3k to sabotage my case. Keith lied numerous times by stating that he wasn't speaking with my former attorney. Not only was he speaking with my former attorney, but also the Defendant attorney, I have emails from Keith's office where the 3 of these attorneys are conspiring against me and withholding my periodic payment. Then Keith lied several times by saying he wasn't receiving documents from the court. Keith refused to give me documents to my case! Keith submitted filings without my knowledge. On more than one occasion, Keith didn't keep me informed of hearings, nor rescheduled hearings. Of course Keith blamed his Paralegal! I engaged Mr. Fuerst Oct 2012 for a simple case. He did not complete the filing in spite of being ordered by the judge to do so one year later. He didn't return my calls in spite of commitments to do so by specified dates. He did not file my case correctly yet did not communicate to me if he was not competent with the subject matter of the case if that was the barrier to proper filing. He did not execute on legal filings in a timely fashion and when done did not do so properly as noted above. He provided me with inaccurate information (would commit to completing a filing but did not do so when I called to follow up). I had to discharge him due to utter frustration and exasperation related to his unprofessional conduct. My new lawyer completed the task in 30 days! I recommend avoiding this lawyer if you desire prompt service, professional, trustworthy communication and dependable follow-through. Come to find out in 10/2018 case is still open he hasn't done anything since 7/2017 and now I am being told by him that I will probably loss I just need to pay it. He was rude, arrogant on the phone and when I told him I wanted explanation as to why I wasn't kept informed he handed off call to someone else and said he didn't have time to follow up that was my job. What a joke of an attorney.

I paid his $1200 fee upfront and then he stalled in every way possible. He is rude, and arrogant. He showed up at the trustee's meeting unkempt and unshaven. I was summoned to his office to sign some paperwork and as I stood at the reception desk he yelled out from his office when I asked a question. He didn't return calls and the day of the hearing he didn't even show up. Don't even think of hiring this guy.

The worst attorney you could hire I wouldn't even consider him an attorney. He's a con artist using the attorney privilege to take money from clients and never having any intentions of actually doing anything for them. His license was suspended in TN in 2023 for misappropriation of funds (stealing) and license in VA was suspended in 2024 for misconduct ( failure to not provide any services and lying about it) . He has another complaint against hin in TN that is pending.

This attorney represented me during my case. I was very dissatisfied with his service. Specifically the fact that he would not return phone calls (for weeks at a time) and made false promises. I also found his assistant to be very rude and dishonest. At one point, I witnessed his assistant pick-up and hang-up the phone on other clients to avoid taking their call. I also witnessed Samuel White's assistant advising other clients that Mr. White was out of the office despite the fact he was sitting right beside her. I assume he uses this tactic as well to avoid clients. Overall I was very dissatisfied and I would not recommend this attorney to anyone.

If there were -5, I would give that. After receiving an HOA emergency special assessment (esa) resolution letter from Debt Collector Pamela's office, hired by my HOA, we made many failed attempts to obtain copies of the inaccurate records she alleged caused the esa. I had to solicit the help of the California State Attorney General's office. Debt Collector Pamela admitted the records do not exist, and no financial audit was conducted. In an email reply dated June 27, 2023, Debt Collector Pamela continued to claim the debt was valid, and there is evidence. But has not provided such evidence. No evidence, no debt, it's the law, Atty. Pamela Moore. Stop scamming poor people.

Mihaela took care of my complex case in a few months. I was able to save my house and my car, and some cash. She also made my extensive hospital and credit card bills go away. I wish I would have contacted her earlier, because I struggled for more than 1 year before I approached her. I have worked with several other attorneys before, never for bankruptcy though, and she really took the time to explain everything about my situation and how we can make it better, unlike some of the other attorneys. I felt like it was a team approach, although she would explain the pros and cons of different options. I feel like I was able to make good and informed decisions that suited my personal situation. In the end, I was very happy with the results and Mihaela's professionalism. I already started my new life, and can't explain how free I feel. If I need other services from an attorney in the future, I will certainly give her a call.

Right from the first time we met, I knew I was going to have a positive experience with Atty. Rowel Manasan. He is very knowledgeable, upright with the subjects in discussion and applies his best approach to my needs. I did not feel intimidated by his approach to my legal needs. It is equally very important to me that he was highly recommended by my insurance agent because I am easily cautious of lawyers having heard so many painful experiences of some friends with their own lawyers. I believe I am in a propitious ground because the best part in working with Atty. Manasan is his consideration of my ability to meet the necessary legal fees while getting my money’s worth. All the legal papers prepared were professionally presented and completed. These, plus his personal touch with my estate planning showcased his niche in the industry. Trustworthy and a promising lawyer are the most favorable attributes I can say about Atty. Manasan.

I used this firm as my closing company for a personal, residential purchase. I was charged $550 for closing fees as the buyer of a house, about twice the fees one would expect for a house this price. I requested an invoice of what was included in the closing fees. After a heated discussion, Ostlie replied that he doesn't question what I charge in my profession for my services, though he isn't a my client. Finally, he asked if I was looking for breakdown of "ancillary costs and the wire charges and the cost of staffing the closing and calling the lender." I replied that indeed, that is what I'm requesting, to which he replied, "Well, I'm not going to do that." The seller was assessed no closing cost, as it was the sibling of Ostlie. Clearly passed the buck to me. Nepotism at its finest. Thankful that his paralegals were punctual and helpful, but I would not recommend his services.

Mr. Tao was hired to represent me for my contested divorce hearing. He failed to file the appropriate documentation with the courts, causing me to have motions of contempt filed against me. He also failed to answer his telephone and email for the two months prior to my hearing. I am now homeless because of his neglect. Please be warned- he is dangerously unreliable. I would have done better to represent myself, as he only caused harm to my case. If requested, I will be happy to share the details and documentation related to his contempt hearing and dismissal.

I hired Shawn in Spring/Summer of 2016 to handle a landlord dispute in Burlington, VT and he was extremely professional every step of the way. I was well-informed throughout the entire process, and I trusted his expertise every step of the way. His empathy and professionalism made this fairly serious dispute feel in my control and well-handled, and I can't recommend him highly enough.

What a Debt Settlement Lawyer Can Do for You

A debt settlement lawyer specializes in helping individuals and businesses negotiate with creditors to reduce or eliminate unsecured debts, such as credit card balances, medical bills, and personal loans. These lawyers provide legal advice on debt relief options, represent you in negotiations, and protect your rights under consumer protection laws. By leveraging their expertise, a debt settlement lawyer can often secure more favorable terms than you might achieve on your own, potentially reducing the total amount owed and helping you avoid bankruptcy.

When Should I Hire a Debt Settlement Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a debt settlement lawyer in the following situations:

  • Overwhelming Debt: If you're struggling to make minimum payments on your debts or are facing significant financial hardship, a lawyer can help explore options to reduce your debt burden.
  • Creditor Harassment: If creditors or collection agencies are harassing you with frequent calls, letters, or threats, a lawyer can intervene to protect your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  • Lawsuits from Creditors: If a creditor has filed a lawsuit against you for unpaid debts, a lawyer can represent you in court and negotiate settlements to prevent wage garnishment or asset seizure.
  • Complex Debt Situations: If your debts involve legal complexities, such as co-signers, joint accounts, or disputed charges, a lawyer can navigate these issues effectively.
  • Considering Bankruptcy: If you're contemplating bankruptcy but want to explore alternatives, a debt settlement lawyer can advise on whether debt settlement is a better option for your situation.
  • Protecting Assets: If you have significant assets you wish to protect from creditors, a lawyer can help structure settlements to safeguard your property.

Hiring a lawyer early can maximize your chances of a favorable outcome and prevent legal missteps that could worsen your financial situation.

What Does a Debt Settlement Lawyer Do?

A debt settlement lawyer provides a range of services to help you manage and reduce your debts:

  • Legal Consultation: Evaluates your financial situation, explains your rights, and advises on the best debt relief options, such as debt settlement, debt consolidation, or bankruptcy.
  • Negotiating with Creditors: Communicates with creditors and collection agencies on your behalf to negotiate reduced settlements, lower interest rates, or extended repayment terms.
  • Drafting Settlement Agreements: Prepares legally binding agreements that outline the terms of the settlement, ensuring that the creditor cannot pursue additional claims once the debt is settled.
  • Protecting Against Creditor Harassment: Uses legal tools to stop abusive collection practices and enforces your rights under consumer protection laws.
  • Representing You in Court: If creditors file lawsuits, the lawyer can defend you, potentially getting cases dismissed or negotiating settlements to avoid judgments.
  • Financial Planning Advice: Provides guidance on budgeting, managing expenses, and rebuilding credit after debt settlement.
  • Bankruptcy Alternatives: Helps you explore alternatives to bankruptcy, which can have long-term effects on your credit and financial opportunities.

How Are Debt Settlement Lawyers Paid?

Debt settlement lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Flat Fee: A set fee for specific services, such as negotiating with a single creditor or handling a straightforward settlement.
  • Hourly Rate: Charging an hourly fee for the time spent working on your case. Rates can range from $200 to $500 or more per hour, depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Percentage of Savings: Some lawyers charge a fee based on a percentage of the amount they save you in the settlement. For example, if they negotiate a $10,000 debt down to $6,000, they might charge 25% of the $4,000 saved.
  • Retainer Fee: An upfront payment from which the lawyer deducts fees as they work on your case. You may need to replenish the retainer if it is exhausted.
  • Payment Plans: Some lawyers offer payment arrangements to make their services more affordable, allowing you to pay the fee over time.

It's important to discuss payment structures and fees during your initial consultation to understand the total cost and ensure it fits within your budget.

How Much Does a Debt Settlement Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a debt settlement lawyer varies based on several factors:

  • Flat Fees: May range from $500 to $3,000 per creditor, depending on the complexity of the negotiations.
  • Hourly Rates: Typically between $200 and $500 per hour. Total costs depend on the amount of time required to settle your debts.
  • Percentage of Savings: Commonly 15% to 25% of the amount saved through negotiation. For example, if your lawyer saves you $10,000, their fee might be $1,500 to $2,500.
  • Retainer Fees: Initial retainers can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the anticipated workload.

Additional costs may include:

  • Court Fees: If legal action is necessary, such as filing motions or defending against lawsuits.
  • Administrative Fees: Charges for copying documents, postage, or other administrative tasks.

Always request a detailed fee agreement and discuss all potential costs upfront to avoid unexpected expenses.

How to Check the Credibility of a Debt Settlement Lawyer

  • Verify Their License: Ensure the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state's bar association.
  • Experience and Specialization: Look for a lawyer who specializes in debt settlement or consumer debt law.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials: Research online reviews or ask for references to learn about other clients' experiences.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) or local bar associations can indicate a commitment to the field.
  • Disciplinary Record: Check for any past disciplinary actions or complaints filed against the lawyer.
  • Consultation Feedback: Use the initial consultation to assess their communication style, professionalism, and confidence in handling your case.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a debt settlement lawyer, bring the following:

  • Detailed List of Debts: Include all creditors, account numbers, balances, interest rates, and any correspondence you've received.
  • Income and Expense Statements: Provide documentation of your income sources and monthly expenses to give the lawyer a clear picture of your financial situation.
  • Credit Reports: Obtain a recent copy of your credit report from all three major bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax).
  • Correspondence from Creditors: Bring any letters, notices, or legal documents you've received from creditors or collection agencies.
  • Legal Documents: If you've been served with lawsuits, summons, or wage garnishment orders, bring those documents.
  • Questions and Concerns: Prepare a list of questions about your options, the debt settlement process, and potential outcomes.
  • Budget Information: Be ready to discuss what you can realistically afford to pay toward settlements.

By being thoroughly prepared, you enable the lawyer to assess your situation effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
