I had the pleasure of working with The Doan Law Firm, and I can't recommend them enough! From start to finish, their team was incredibly professional, responsive, and dedicated to helping me through my legal matter. What stood out the most was their commitment to clear communication. They took the time to explain every step of the process and made sure I understood my options. I never felt like just another case—rather, they truly cared about my situation and fought for the best possible outcome. The level of expertise they bring to the table is unmatched. They handled my case with efficiency and confidence, giving me peace of mind throughout the entire process. I felt supported every step of the way, and the results exceeded my expectations. If you're in need of legal representation, I highly recommend The Doan Law Firm. Their professionalism, skill, and personalized approach make them a standout in the industry.

Employment related issues are stressful. I never thought it would happen to me... When I first met with Heather I was angry, hurt, confused, shocked, skeptical and most of all STRESSED. Heather listened to my story, advised me of my options and proceeded to negotiate a highly favorable settlement on my behalf. Heather's professionalism, understanding of the law and confident disposition demonstrated to me that I was in good hands and well represented! Thank you!

Heather wasn't just a great attorney, she was also an excellent guide through the difficult procedures and complicated steps regarding the ADA and employment law. She listened when I shared my frustrations and kept me motivated throughout the entire process. I was honored she chose to accept my case and I got to experience the closure I sought after the termination of my employment.

Marilyn and her team did an amazing job for me. This was my first time needing an attorney and I immediately could tell that Marilyn took my case seriously. She listened, gave honest advice, her communication was timely and always let me know what to expect as far as next steps. I always felt she was fighting for me and during my 2 year long case, she has as much enthusiasm on day one as she did when the case finally wrapped up. She is the best!

After being represented by an attorney who did not care about me or the outcome of my case I was referred to Marilyn. Although the outcome of my case remains unresolved and uncertain at this time, I know that Marilyn will do everything possible to see it through and to get me the justice that was squandered by my last representative. Marilyn shows genuine interest in my case and I completely trust her as we move forward to what I know will be a positive outcome. I HIGHLY recommend Marilyn and her firm to anyone that seeks justice. She's awesome!!

My story started with a personal injury case where I called several different lawyers who wouldn't return my calls. I ended up with a lawyer who I was not fond of who dropped the ball on several occasions. However, one day I came across Mr. Novak's page and I gave him a call. I am so thrilled with how the entire case was handled! Sean picked up the pieces and with the help of his team he got everything handled with no issues whatsoever. Thanks to him I can get started on a path to recovery. Sean is a hero!

Sean Novak and I crossed paths in 2005 after I'd knocked my head on many walls with one roadblock after another and then lo and behold the skies parted and Sunshine arrived through the clouds in Sean Novak which was a blessing to behold which I did not at that time realize how significant in the long run this would be proven to be true at the time it was such a relief considering all that I'd gone through, However as time tells pretty much all what was revealed that this a lifelong significant Blessing of our crossing paths through our case travails along with the travels they have brought consequentially together to bring about resolutions ,Not only is he personable and attentive to your concerns unlike many others he does not just hear you he more importantly listens to your comments with an empathetic understanding take ownership solution minded approach in consideration as he is visualizing how he will approach the case to like an Superstar athlete win Game, As I've learned over the years through the multiple battles that he and i have stood side by side to endure the most positive outcomes I could have ever imagined and through it all as a result of the due diligence and committed mindset that Sean Novak applies to each and everyone of his clients with welcoming arms which each and everyone of those I've recommended over the years can also attest to when you want the best because your case requires the peace of mind from knowing that you've an attorney who cares and will go to bat for you when the road gets rough and not abandon you and or leave you hanging,Sean Novak is your Man. When a Friend or Family member mentions to me they have a personal injury matter I do not even pause with a moment of thought as I say to them with complete and utter confidence that I've done the correct thing by referring them to Sean Novak, I'll provide the individual Sean's contact information and as well get in touch with Sean and offer him their information as well so that there will be two way communication established. Then from this point forward I can rest in peace that Sean Novak, Will apply his extraordinary skill and research combined with communication capabilities to their matter as he's successfully preformed with my cases which I'm thoroughly satisfied with the outcomes of each case that he has been at the helm as I'm confident that he is the Best there is at what he does and when you need the best to Shepard your case Sean Novak would be the Attorney I recommend with the utmost confidence that you hire.

Paul is honest, hard-working, and smart. We found him to be very knowledgeable about the process of fighting in the North Georgia District for Long Term Disability Benefits under ERISA. My husband suffers from an unusual and misunderstood illness but has objective evidence of his disabilities (not just self-reported symptoms). Paul wrote a series of excellent briefs for our case, which resulted in a big win, including attorney's fees paid for us by the insurance company! In addition, our case was "published" so that other attorneys will be able to cite it as court precedent.

Well, Lauren is nice, very nice, but don't let that fool you. Lauren is the kind of soft spoken attorney with a big stick. I only wish I would have come to trust her sooner. She did not need me micromanaging her, she needed me to get out of her way and let her do her job. Tell it like it is, but in a nice way. Patience and understanding. Thorough and organized. I am the plaintiff in a pending new wrongful termination case. I am exceptionally well documented in my evidence against the defendant. So, when I 'shopped the case around' with several attorneys by phone & email, there was much interest. But Mr Olsen showed much more than interest in my story; he was invested in it. He was genuinely aggrieved and indignant that my company had fired me after I caught management forging my inspector's stamp & signature on FAA certs. That was just what I wanted. I hired him immediately. The case is just beginning but to this point Mr. Olsen has shown himself to be a motivated and aggressive attorney. I'm glad I found him.

Nina Pirrotti, Went above and beyond what I think she had to do. I'm still not out of the woods in my situation, But she lead me in the right direction. My situation was very complicated and she took the time to figure it out. I will say that the lawyer's system is a little slow to get started with filling out paperwork, But once you pass that hump, It's well worth it. I felt like she wanted to do what was best for me and not just what's best for the law firm. If you're in an unfortunate situation where you need a lawyer, at least get a lawyer that cares.....

Where do l start??? Nina is incredible. After a very difficult and painful journey regarding a civil matter, Nina demonstrated extreme professionalism and expertise. Her committment and tenacity was unmatched by anyone. She was accessible, diligent, organize and very supportive every step of the way. Her willingness to “fight the fight” made me feel like I mattered at a very traumatic time. Nina has made a tremendous impact both personally and societally. To say that Nina is ‘just an attorney’ doesn’t reflect what she really is...a great fighter and friend.

Rick has been representing us for over 2 years now. Are case is very complicated and there are appeals. He has never made my family or I feel bad about asking questions and never appeared annoyed. I love how he personally cares. Our family has not felt like a pay check to Rick. The compassion and caring he and his associates has been stellar. The professionalism he has displayed should be commended. It is nice having someone advocate for you in the manner he does. I would not hesitate to recommend Rick. He made a painful experience a little better and guided us through a trial like a general. Just an all around great guy.

From our first interview with Mr. Hearn, he has proven himself to be an honorable, brilliant man, who possesses vast knowledge of the law. He carefully explained the details of our situation and pertinent legal information, answered all of our concerns, arranged meetings around our difficult schedule, tutored us in the rules of giving sworn testimony, sat at our side and guided us as we were deposed. We found Mr. Hearn to be a professional, direct, respectful, calm and reassuring, supportive, kind attorney who responded quickly throughout our experience with him. By the time our work together was concluded, we regarded him as a trusted friend.

Natalia is a great lawyer! She is smart, thorough and highly competent. Her knowledge of labor law is extensive and she uses every bit of it to the benefit of her client. Her writing skills are impeccable! She put my case together so well and she did it with class and integrity; without sacrificing the assertiveness needed to get the job done. The way she brought it to my former employer was extremely satisfying and I would recommend her again and again.

Ms. Shishkin helped me navigate an employment law issue. She was professional, responsive and helpful. She was able to communicate the law and likely responses from my employer in a way that was very helpful. Ms. Shiskin also helped to provide concrete advice for interacting with my employer that was equally as helpful. Her superb advice and professional demeanor was in stark contrast to other attorneys I interviewed to assist with my particular employment law issue. Other attorneys’ advice was not as helpful or concrete and their focus seemed solely on litigating. Ms. Shiskin used her legal expertise to help me reach the best possible resolution for my particular employment law issue. I recommend her legal expertise and commend her client focus and strong strategic approach.

Alexis Casillas is honest, understanding, reliable and professional. She truly is one of the most amazing, caring lawyers out there. She was a beacon of hope to my family at a time when our options appeared limited. I remember driving home from our first IEP feeling angry, discouraged and powerless. Our child needed help and we were told that there was absolutely nothing the district could do for us. Knowing that navigating the district's complicated system might be tough and overwhelming, we decided to reach out to Ms. Casillas for help. From the moment we met her, it was clear we had made the right decision. Not only was she an incredible advocate for our child, but her calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional succor when we needed it most. We are eternally grateful to Ms. Casillas and highly recommend her without reservation.

When I first came to Alexis, I was heartbroken and discouraged by the way the LAUSD was treating our child. We had tried another attorney who had taken our money and not helped. I was a bit traumatized by the process when we found Alexis but - WOW, what a difference the right lawyer makes. It was such a relief to be able to trust that there was someone on our side that knew the system and would advocate for our son. Alexis has known everyone at each of our mediations and everyone has treated her with respect(believe it or not, this is not always the case). She went above and beyond and managed to do the impossible - because of her, we got the services and schooling that the LAUSD initially told us wouldn't happen. At our last IEP, the LAUSD told me that my son was one of their success stories - that would not have been possible without Alexis' tireless championing of him. She has been with us every step of the way, and has made sure that we(my son and my husband and I) are treated fairly and with respect. She has always taken my calls and constant questions and never made me feel like I was bothering her. I cannot recommend her enough.

After contacting over ten other attorneys to represent me on my whistleblower case against a former state employer, Mr. Chris Moody was the only one that accepted my case. He was very diligent in compiling all relevant information and ensured that my legal complaint was completely substantiated with documented evidence. Mr. Moody's attention to all the necessary details throughout my case helped reduce the amount of stress that I had to endure. He was both professional and supportive throughout the entire two year ordeal and managed to help me secure a very reasonable settlement just prior to going to trial. His staff and associates were just as professional and supportive and I never felt as though I was left second-guessing my choice to have Moody and Warner represent me. I recommended Mr. Moody to several co-workers and he continues to represent them on their cases. I would fully recommend Moody and Associates to any individual seeking quality legal representation.

Although my child's case is not related to special ed, Mr. Berliner followed up with my urgent voicemail and called me after 8 pm, once he got a chance to respond. People get very stressful and emotional especially when they are not treated fairly and tend to carry away from the main course. I think Mr. Berliner knows this very well and stays sharp to the point. He spent about an hour or a bit more to listen to our situation, asked additional questions to clarify a few moments and tried to keep the conversation in a right direction. Unfortunately, I was out of time to make proper decisions for the next day, however, Mr. Berliner still suggested several options that were very helpful. I highly recommend Mr. Berliner to parents who are having problems with their schools.

We engaged Attorney Berliner after unsuccessfully trying to get our local school district to realize that our daughter’s educational needs were not being met. After literally years of trying to wade through PPT meetings and negotiating IEP’s we finally challenged our school district to consider an “out of district placement” so that she could finally get the specialized education she needed. Nothing that we said, no evidence that we provided could convince the school district that they were failing her. From the outset, Attorney Berliner was personable, professional and very straightforward in explaining the various options we had. Once we engaged his services, he attended a PPT meeting with us and represented our position in a very clear way. When the school district continued to hold to their position, Attorney Berliner helped us through what ultimately because a legal battle that we could never have fought – or won – on our own. I am very pleased to say that our daughter did receive the out-of-district placement that she needed. She has now moved through the high school system, and is a better adjusted, more motivated and forward looking young adult than she was, or would have been if she had stayed where she was. Thank you Larry Berliner. You have helped us give her a fighting chance !

In September, 2016, I contacted Atty. Pate regarding an incident I considered to be age discrimination in my workplace. In a no charge consultation, he advised me to contact my human resources department regarding the incident. I did so. My company investigated the incident, and it seemed to have been resolved. Six months later, my company took what I believed to be retaliatory action for my initial complaint. I resigned from my employment under duress two months later. I again contacted Atty. Pate who believed I had a discrimination and retaliation case against my employer. He advised me every step of the way while negotiating with the employer. Atty. Pate was helpful when I tried to collect unemployment and the employer appealed twice. My unemployment claim was successful. When the employer would not agree to a settlement, Atty. Pate filed a complaint with the EEOC, and ultimately a suit against the employer. Nine months after my second contact with Atty. Pate, the case was settled to my satisfaction. Atty. Pate kept me informed through the entire process. He was patient and empathetic and worked hard on my behalf against a very difficult employer. I am grateful for his efforts and guidance.

What a Discrimination Lawyer Can Do for You

A discrimination lawyer specializes in handling cases where individuals or groups face unfair treatment based on protected characteristics, such as race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. These lawyers assist clients in filing discrimination claims, representing them in legal proceedings, and ensuring that their rights under federal, state, and local laws are upheld. Discrimination cases may arise in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, or other settings.

Whether you’ve been discriminated against at work, denied housing, or treated unfairly in other areas of life, a discrimination lawyer can help you navigate the legal process and seek compensation or corrective action.

When Should I Hire a Discrimination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a discrimination lawyer in several situations where unfair treatment occurs based on protected characteristics. Common scenarios include:

  • Employment Discrimination:
    • Workplace discrimination: If you’ve been treated unfairly at work because of your race, gender, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, or another protected status, a lawyer can help you file a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or a similar state agency.
    • Wrongful termination: If you were fired due to discrimination or retaliation for reporting discriminatory behavior, a lawyer can assist with filing a lawsuit and seeking compensation for lost wages, emotional distress, and other damages.
    • Failure to promote: If you’ve been denied a promotion or opportunities due to discriminatory practices, a lawyer can investigate the claim and represent you in legal actions against your employer.
    • Harassment: If you’ve experienced workplace harassment, such as sexual harassment or a hostile work environment based on your race, gender, or other characteristics, a lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.
  • Housing Discrimination:
    • Denial of housing: If you’ve been denied housing due to your race, disability, family status, or other protected factors, a lawyer can help you file a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or sue the landlord or property manager for violating the Fair Housing Act.
    • Unfair rental practices: If a landlord or property manager treats you unfairly based on discriminatory factors (e.g., refusing reasonable accommodations for a disability), a lawyer can help you enforce your rights.
  • Education Discrimination:
    • Discrimination in schools: If you or your child has faced discrimination in an educational setting based on race, disability, gender, or religion, a lawyer can help you file complaints under laws like Title VI, Title IX, or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Public Accommodations:
    • Denial of services: If a business or public service has discriminated against you based on race, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics, a lawyer can assist you in filing a complaint or lawsuit under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or other anti-discrimination laws.

Hiring a discrimination lawyer early can help protect your rights and ensure that your claim is filed within legal deadlines.

What Does a Discrimination Lawyer Do?

A discrimination lawyer provides a range of legal services to help individuals and groups fight against discriminatory practices. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing discrimination claims: A lawyer can help you file a complaint with government agencies, such as the EEOC, HUD, or your state’s human rights commission. They ensure that your claim is properly documented and filed within required time limits.
  • Investigating discrimination claims: Discrimination lawyers gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review documents to build a strong case for proving discriminatory practices.
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, a lawyer can negotiate a settlement with the employer, landlord, or other party involved in the discrimination case, seeking compensation or corrective action without going to trial.
  • Representing clients in court: If your case goes to court, a lawyer will represent you during hearings, present evidence, and argue your case before a judge or jury.
  • Handling retaliation claims: If you face retaliation for filing a discrimination complaint or reporting discriminatory practices, a lawyer can help you pursue a retaliation claim.
  • Advising on legal rights: A discrimination lawyer explains your legal rights under federal and state anti-discrimination laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the ADA, the Fair Housing Act, and others.

How Are Discrimination Lawyers Paid?

Discrimination lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the expected duration of the legal process. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many discrimination lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. Their fee is usually a percentage of the settlement or court award, typically ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that don’t involve a contingency fee arrangement, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates for discrimination lawyers generally range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler legal tasks, such as drafting a discrimination complaint or providing legal advice, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Pro bono or reduced fees: Some discrimination lawyers offer pro bono (free) or reduced-fee services, especially in cases involving low-income clients or significant civil rights issues.

It’s important to discuss fee arrangements during your initial consultation to ensure that you understand the total cost of legal services and how payment will be handled.

How Much Does a Discrimination Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a discrimination lawyer depends on factors like the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the potential for a settlement or trial. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, their fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win a settlement of $50,000 and the lawyer’s fee is 30%, they would receive $15,000, and you would keep the remaining $35,000.
  • Hourly rates: Discrimination lawyers who charge by the hour typically bill between $200 and $600 per hour. For example, a case that takes 20 hours of legal work at $300 per hour would cost $6,000 in legal fees.
  • Flat fees: Some legal services, such as filing a discrimination complaint or providing a legal consultation, may be available for a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale fees: In some cases, particularly for low-income individuals, lawyers may offer reduced fees or work pro bono.

Always ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation, and clarify whether the lawyer offers flexible payment options.

Top Questions to Ask a Discrimination Lawyer

Before hiring a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with discrimination cases?
Ensure that the lawyer has handled discrimination cases similar to yours, whether it involves employment, housing, or public accommodation discrimination.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs.
  3. What are my chances of success?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and the likelihood of success.
  4. How long will the process take?
Discrimination cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take, from filing a complaint to reaching a settlement or going to trial.
  5. Will I need to go to court?
Ask whether your case is likely to settle out of court or if a trial may be necessary. If a trial is possible, ask what steps the lawyer will take to prepare.
  6. What damages or remedies can I seek?

How to Check the Credibility of a Discrimination Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable discrimination lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their bar status: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and in good standing with the state bar association. You can check this on your state bar’s website.
  • Look for discrimination case experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in employment law, civil rights, or discrimination cases and have successfully handled similar cases in the past.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on discrimination matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in civil rights organizations or employment law associations, such as the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed account of the discrimination: Provide a clear description of the discriminatory actions, including dates, locations, and individuals involved. Document specific incidents and any witnesses who can support your claim.
  • Workplace or housing records: Bring copies of relevant employment or housing documents, such as job performance evaluations, rental agreements, emails, or written correspondence related to the discrimination.
  • Company or organization policies: If the discrimination occurred in the workplace or housing, bring copies of company policies, employee handbooks, or housing agreements that outline anti-discrimination policies.
  • Evidence of damages: Provide evidence of any financial losses, such as lost wages, job termination, or increased rent, as well as emotional or psychological distress caused by the discrimination.
  • Previous complaints or actions: If you’ve filed previous complaints or taken any action related to the discrimination, such as reporting the issue to HR or filing a complaint with a government agency, bring copies of those documents.
  • Questions about the process: Prepare a list of questions about your legal options, potential outcomes, and the lawyer’s approach to handling your case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice for pursuing your discrimination claim.
