Everyone should be able to expect great results from a capable attorney who is clear with you about the scenario and your options. Juan outlined all the possibilities for my particular case, explained everything thoroughly and achieved results far beyond my expectations. He is friendly and approachable and even went out of his way in several instances to make sure everything was taken care of. I would recommend him to family and friends or anyone needing an excellent attorney.

Great lawyer my son got credit time served for the 3 days he was in jail and and had the felony reduced down to a misdemeanor with a plea of guilty on a case that he could have spent no less then two years in prison for but up to an maximum of 7 years that he could have been sentenced to that were based off of tampering with electrical lines and down to theft of services . I would definitely hire this man because he actually cares about his clients and it shows through the work he does to handle their cases.

If you need solid representation, Wayne J. Payne is the man! I am going to hire him to help my daughter. I visited her in jail today. Epic! Happy and sad. Mostly happy, she's amazing! A man walks into a restaurant and calls me by name. I'm the bartender. He knows my first name without introduction and I know his full name. Men like us need no introduction. Wayne J. Payne (the J. is silent) is one of the most intelligent and respectful man I've had the privilege of meeting. He's hired!

I was referred to Mr. Manning by the top two criminal attorneys in Georgia. Mr. Manning made himself available and quickly took control of a very unfortunate matter where, out of nowhere, I was falsely accused of a heinous act. His depth of knowledge of the law and his extensive history in navigating the intricate layers of a complex criminal matter are unparalleled. He is a formidable advocate to have representing you and I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Missy represented me in a white collar federal case. She made me feel very comfortable from the beginning and made sure that this conviction had "as little impact as on your life as possible," in her words. Whenever I called to speak with her, she would speak with me immediately and inform me of what was going on, and if she wasn't in the office then she would come to the jail personally to see me. In the event that she just could not make it, another attorney from the firm would come see me. She carefully reviewed my case with the intention of taking it to trial even though I knew that would not ultimately happen. With the exception of hardened criminals, being persecuted by the federal government is a very stressful situation, and it is important that you find an attorney that truly care about your case and about what happens to you. Professional, caring, attentive, intelligent and thorough, Missy Owen is all of these things.

I was I charged with theft in Roanoke. I explained my charged to Mrs. Federico she listen and told me up front what my story sounded like and believed me. I did not steal anything, but she told me it was going to be very hard or to even get this dismissed. We went to court did the whole process. In the end she got the case dismissed. I admit I have do many things in my life and have never took anything from anyone before in my life. When I hired Mrs. Derrico I had been clean from drugs for 18 months. When I was using for 2yrs of my life I never took anything from anyone. Mrs. Derrico was upfront and honest with me and even put up with high strung fear of this charge. She believed me and I placed my faith in her. Believe if want to complaint about the cost of a lawyer then go with court a appointed lawyer and take your chances. Hiring a good lawyer is worth your future. To Mrs. Derrico is that lawyer. She was wonderful and did not play games. She was stright forward and did not tell me something to give me false hope. Thank you Derrico.

Ms. Sparrow did a fantastic job on my case and I am thankful. I have a CDL license and for me it is more than the right to drive from one place to another, it is my living. Rather than describe the aspects of the case I will just say that I had gotten into some trouble unintentionally with the police and as sometimes happens, things we don't realize are as serious as they are, threaten are livelihood. Thankfully Ms. Sparrow did a wonderful job and saved my career by getting mycase voluntarily dismissed. Hopefully I won't ever run into a legal situation again, but I know to call her first if I need help again.

I wish I had heard about him prior to closure of the other case, in the other county. Comparing him to the other guy that we had is like comparing the sky and the dirt. He was the sky, definitely. He took my brother's very complex case, as if it was personal. He was always available to provide answers to any questions that we had, and would return phone calls within 24 hrs. He always showed up in the court and had needed documents with him. In one instance the judge was asking for something to be prepared for the next court date, but he already had it for that one. It appeared like he was always a step ahead of the case proceedings. Whatever he said he was going to do, he did. To this day we thank him for his work and wish we knew about him much sooner. If you need an attorney, than you need someone HONEST, someone who WILL WORK FOR YOU, someone who will be WITH YOU through each and every step, and who will KNOW YOUR CASE well and DEFEND it well -- Steven Richards was that man for my brother and my family. Thank you Mr. Richards! God Bless you!

I admit I was very high maintenance, but emotions were elevated and Mr. Segui handled it well. He told me in the beginning he hated divorce and custody cases, but he was able to answer all my questions and definitely held his own against my ex-wife's attorney. I felt comfortable and wasn't worried at all. I now have sole custody of my son, and that's not easy to do in the South! I would definitely use Mr. Segui again, but I hope it won't be a divorce or custody case.

Rustam A. Barbee is the best criminal defense attorney in Honolulu. With decades of experience in the Hawaiian Islands, there's no other lawyer on Oahu with his type of extensive legal background. Besides his experience with the legal system at both the state and federal level, Rustam has an innate ability to excel in trial like settings. He truly is a master of his craft and a rare gem to find. From the initial call I had made to his office to the trial verdict, I could not have been more satisfied with the quality of his services and consultation sessions throughout the entire legal process. Prior to trial, Mr. Barbee did extensive research regarding the technicalities of every aspect of my case. I wholeheartedly felt he was he was very well prepared for my case and went above and beyond representing me to the best of his ability. His performance was nothing short of magical and I was extremely pleased with the outcome. As a criminology major in Hawaii, I've watched many trials on Oahu throughout the years among many top attorneys. Rustam has definitely proven to be a standout amidst his peers, especially in trial. You see, not all attorneys are cut out to be trial attorneys and Rustam Barbee is a rare breed amongst them. You must see him in action to to understand how his unique style and delivery in the courtroom has made him one of the most talented and well-versed attorneys in the state of Hawaii. From traffic, white collar, forfeiture, to violent and drug crimes do not hesitate to contact Mr. Barbee when your reputation and future of your life matters most. On top of being the most competent attorney I have ever met with a private practice in Hawaii, Rustam is an honest individual and family man. He is also so humble and down-to-earth one would never suspect he comes from a family of attorneys and has obtained a Juris Doctorate Degree. Rest assured, Rustam will represent you with his heart and soul should he take your case. I couldn't have been more blessed and grateful to have met Mr. Barbee and his paralegal Esther. It is with great privilege to give Attorney Rustam A. Barbee my highest recommendation to anyone who is seeking the ultimate peace of mind and a winning result. Rustam has genuinely cared for my well-being and has become a lifelong trusted legal consultant and friend.

Where to even begin.... If this doesn't say enough, I don't know what will: I'm suffering from an incurable, blinding eye disease known as Retinitis Pigmentosa. Gradually losing vision, however, my case seems to be progressing at a very aggressive speed. In 2012, I couldn't take all the discrimination anymore. My whole family has been suffering, not just me. More importantly, my eye disease became some sort of crime and was the reason I was getting fired, I hired, rejected from health insurance, etc. I had a company. Trying to sue me for not disclosing the extent of what "RP is." This man, not only bent over backwards to make sure I receive justice, he was extremely sympathetic but Agressive at the same time. This is exactly what I wanted. He does not sugar coat anything and will prepare you for the worst possible outcome so there are never any surprises. If you listen to him in court, you never hear a stutter or an ,"um" as if he is trying to think of what to say next... NEVER. He is very confident because of all the knowledge and experience he has. If I knew 25% of what he knew, let's be honest, I'd be pretty confident too! No BS, right to the point, isn't looking to screw anyone, and honestly, if it weren't for C. Craig Stella, I have NO idea where I'd be. Probably homeless and suicidal.. Maybe even dead. Thank you are words that are far from what this man deserves. Couple years later, I'm still trying to come up with the appropriate way of thanking this amazing, 34+ experienced attorney and I'm still not sure how else to thank this man. What I do know, is the words and flowers to him are not enough! Ha ha. Yes, he specializes in all criminal cases and it's laud out pretty evenly between this, DUI, as well as federal cases but I do know he also specializes in divorce law. Just a gem but a feisty one! But that's what we want when hiring an attorney? At least I knew I did and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. :)

I had some legal issues with the federal government and fired two attorneys before finally being referred to Richard Novak by one of my attorneys who I kept as council. Richard is excellent at what he does and truly cares about his clients best interests. He always made time for me and never once made a big deal out of it. He doesn’t over bill but at the same isn’t cheap, but is worth every penny. He’s aggressive but yet extremly calculated and strategic. He listens and also gives solid advise. He’s bullet proof and if your having any type of serious criminal or civil federal matters don’t look anywhere else. This is the attorney to hire and keep in your phone book for the rest of your life. A solid and honest man who will do exactly as he says...and looks at the bigger picture not the short run. I wouldn’t hire any other attorney for any serious matters, Richard Novak is by far one of the most professional and respectful attorneys I have met. He doesn’t have a god complex like most lawyers and he is still very human and humble, but extremly good at his craft. He mangaged to settle my issues with the federal government in just 2 months when other lawyers I fired simply had been dragging their feet to just bill me more and more and accomplished nothing. Your lucky if you ever come across another attorney like Richard Novak in your life time. Hes an anomaly in the legal world. If you chose to retain him you won’t be disappointed by any means. He’s a lifer like I stated. Keep him in your phone book for life. Highly recommended

I hired Mr. Charles G. White to defend me on a felony charge. From the first consultation, which was free, I felt that his firm was the right team to have on my side. He was always available to answer all of my questions (even nights and weekends) and to put my mind at ease in this matter. I did not have to appear in court for my arraignment and within minutes of my scheduled appearance, attorney Mr. Jaime Lapidus from his firm called me with news of a favorable resolution in my case. His fee is very reasonable and well worth the investment. I would recommend Mr. White and his firm to anyone who is in need of a team of attorneys that will fight to have your rights defended in the most vigorous manner. They are not only experienced professionals but very aware of the human side of being involved in legal matters.

What a Federal Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A federal crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals or organizations accused of violating federal laws. These lawyers have experience navigating the complex federal criminal justice system, which includes higher penalties, stricter sentencing guidelines, and a different court system than state-level crimes. Federal crime lawyers defend clients against a wide range of charges, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, fraud, conspiracy, gun violations, and more. They assist in every phase of the legal process, from investigation to trial and appeals, ensuring their clients' rights are protected.

If you’re facing federal criminal charges, a federal crime lawyer can provide the necessary defense and expertise to navigate the complexities of federal law and achieve the best possible outcome.

When Should I Hire a Federal Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a federal crime lawyer in any situation where you are under investigation or have been charged with a federal crime. Key scenarios include:

  • Charged with a federal crime: If you’ve been charged with a federal offense, such as drug trafficking, wire fraud, money laundering, or conspiracy, hiring a federal crime lawyer is essential to ensure your defense is tailored to federal court procedures and laws.
  • Target of a federal investigation: If you are being investigated by federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, or IRS, it’s crucial to retain a lawyer early on. A lawyer can help you avoid self-incrimination and build a defense strategy to counter the investigation.
  • White-collar crimes: If you’ve been accused of federal white-collar crimes such as securities fraud, embezzlement, or insider trading, a lawyer can help defend you against charges brought by federal prosecutors and regulatory agencies like the SEC.
  • Drug-related charges: If you’re facing federal drug charges, such as possession, distribution, or trafficking of controlled substances, a lawyer can represent you in federal court and negotiate plea deals or challenge the prosecution’s case.
  • Gun-related offenses: If you’ve been charged with federal gun crimes, including illegal possession, trafficking, or using a firearm during a violent crime, a federal crime lawyer can help defend against harsh federal penalties.
  • Immigration-related crimes: Federal charges involving immigration violations, such as human trafficking, smuggling, or illegal re-entry after deportation, require specialized legal knowledge of both federal criminal law and immigration law.
  • Appeals: If you’ve been convicted of a federal crime and are seeking to appeal the conviction or sentence, a federal crime lawyer can assist with the appeals process, focusing on legal errors or issues that may have occurred during the trial.

Hiring a lawyer as soon as you know you are under investigation or charged with a federal crime gives you the best chance of protecting your rights and building a strong defense.

What Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Do?

A federal crime lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to defend individuals and organizations accused of federal crimes. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Defending clients in federal court: Federal crime lawyers represent clients in all stages of federal criminal proceedings, including pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Building a defense strategy: Lawyers thoroughly investigate the charges, review the prosecution’s evidence, and develop a defense strategy tailored to the unique aspects of federal law and sentencing guidelines.
  • Negotiating plea deals: In some cases, a lawyer may negotiate with federal prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties, potentially avoiding a lengthy trial and reducing sentencing.
  • Handling federal investigations: If you are the subject of a federal investigation, a lawyer will guide you on how to interact with federal agents, respond to subpoenas, and handle potential interrogations, ensuring your rights are not violated.
  • Filing pre-trial motions: Federal crime lawyers can file motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or challenge the legality of the investigation or arrest, aiming to weaken the prosecution’s case before trial.
  • Representing clients in appeals: If you’ve been convicted, a federal crime lawyer can represent you in the appeals process, focusing on legal errors, misconduct, or constitutional issues that may have affected the trial’s outcome.
  • Managing sentencing and post-conviction matters: Lawyers also help clients during the sentencing phase, arguing for leniency or alternatives to imprisonment, and assist with post-conviction matters such as parole or supervised release violations.

How Are Federal Crime Lawyers Paid?

Federal crime lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected time commitment. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many federal crime lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience, the case complexity, and geographic location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as negotiating a plea deal or representing you during the initial stages of a federal investigation, some lawyers offer a flat fee. Flat fees for federal criminal defense cases often range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on the scope of the work.
  • Retainer: In complex federal cases, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers a portion of the legal work. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as they work on the case. Retainers typically range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the case.
  • Payment plans: Some federal crime lawyers may offer payment plans, especially if the case involves extended litigation or lengthy appeals. This can help make legal fees more manageable over time.

It’s crucial to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to understand the total cost of representation and how payments will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a federal crime lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Federal crime lawyers generally charge between $300 and $1,000 per hour. For example, if a lawyer charges $500 per hour and spends 50 hours on your case, the total cost would be $25,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as negotiating a plea deal, flat fees can range from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the seriousness of the charges and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Retainers: In more complex or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer of $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the case’s scope and complexity.
  • Appeals: If you’re appealing a federal conviction, legal fees for an appeal can range from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the issues being raised and the length of the appellate process.

In addition to legal fees, you may also need to cover additional costs such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Federal Crime Lawyer

Before hiring a federal crime lawyer, it’s essential to ask key questions to ensure they have the necessary experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with federal cases?
Ensure the lawyer has extensive experience handling federal criminal cases, particularly those similar to yours, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, or gun violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost of your defense.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including plea deals, dismissals, or trial strategies.
  4. What is your approach to defending federal cases?
Ask how the lawyer plans to approach your defense, including potential pre-trial motions, negotiations with federal prosecutors, or trial strategies.
  5. Will my case go to trial?
Ask whether the lawyer thinks your case will settle out of court through a plea deal or whether it’s expected to go to trial, and how the lawyer will prepare for either scenario.
  6. How long will my case take?
Federal cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer for an estimated timeline, from investigation to trial or settlement.
  7. What are the possible penalties if convicted?
Ask about the potential penalties you could face if convicted, including prison time, fines, or other consequences, and how the lawyer plans to mitigate those penalties.

How to Check the Credibility of a Federal Crime Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable federal crime lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Look for federal crime experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in federal criminal defense and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on federal cases.
  • Check for federal court admissions: Make sure the lawyer is admitted to practice in federal court, as federal criminal cases are handled in federal district courts.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a federal crime lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Information about the charges or investigation: Provide any documents related to the charges against you, such as indictments, subpoenas, or notices of investigation. This helps the lawyer assess the severity of the charges and the potential defense strategy.
  • Details of previous interactions with federal agents: If federal agents have contacted you or conducted searches, provide a detailed account of those interactions, including search warrants, interrogations, or evidence seized.
  • Questions about your case: Prepare a list of questions regarding the legal process, potential outcomes, and how the lawyer plans to defend you.
  • Relevant financial information: If your case involves financial crimes or assets that may be at risk, bring relevant financial records, such as bank statements, business records, or tax returns.
  • Previous legal history: If you have a prior criminal record or have been involved in federal investigations before, bring details about those cases.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal defense for your federal case.
