James Howsley and I worked on a joint Land Use project near Ridgefield, Washington.several years ago. He was very competent and professional in his approach and as a result both of our clients prevailed in getting their land accepted by the City of Ridgefield even thou their land was on the other side of the I-5 freeway from the City of Ridgefield.

Jonathan handled my disability claim and was so knowledgeable. He spent a lot of time going over my case prior to the hearing and gave me the straight facts and not just what I wanted to hear. He was very organized and I felt win or lose I had one of the best attorneys handing my case. Not to mention he was always available to talk to and he actually listened to what I had to say. You can't go wrong using Jonathan. I would recommend him in a heart beat!!

Very intelligent, knows the IRS code without looking up! Honest in the fact she will state if an IRS debt is legal or not to collect and if an IRS agent does something wrong, incorrect or doesn’t understand, she will take the initiative to inform/train the agent what they did right and what is wrong and can state the code from memory. Used to work as an assistant US Attorney out of the Madison WI. US Attorney’s office and was excellent there also! Very ethical, intelligent and honest attorney. The IRS is lucky to have her. I wish I could hire her for my personal attorney but at least the government has one of the best attorneys I have known

Mr. Magee represented my adult son in a dui case. He was honest and forthright throughout the process, was very good about laying out the risks and potential outcomes for different courses the case could take, didn't sugar coat anything, and his knowledge and experience helped us make the right decisions.

Ryan helped me with the sale of my interest in a small business. He was very effective in helping me close the deal and also extremely efficient with his time (which is reflected by an extremely fair amount of hours billed). Would highly recommend.

Allyson was very informative about everything she did for me. I knew what to expect most every step of the way. I was very hesitant to use her because of her age and her being a newer lawyer, but to my pleasant surprise she was great. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a lawyer that is reasonably priced. I also had her to complete my parents Will shortly after using her for by business and it was under 300 dollars. When me and my husband did ours previously with another attorney we paid $1,800. It's nice to know there are good quality lawyers for a reasonable price.

I would like to thank Ross Nilson of Brudvik Law Firm for representing me in my recent case. Dealing with legal matters can be nerve wracking and frustrating but Ross always put things into perspective and put my mind at ease. Ross is always on top of the issues and was very prompt at answering questions and keeping in contact with me throughout the whole process. Ross has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the issues and dealt with them timely and effectively. Ross is very professional yet personable. I appreciate having Ross on my side and I was in good hands with his expertise. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Ross’s expertise came through time and time again and I felt Ross truly cares about his clients and it shows. Ross did an excellent job on my case. I can’t thank him enough for all he has done. In fact the entire staff was always professional, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Ross and Brudvik Law for representing me in this matter. Thank you again.

Mr. Krugler has advised me more than once when I had some tough legal questions. The first time was regarding issues I was having with a close family member who was recently admitted to a long term care facility. He listened patiently to my story and made me feel that he truly cared, and also that he was able to empathize having gone through similar healthcare issues in his family. He took notes, did some research and reached me with the information that I needed. A few months later, I was involved in a mass layoff and needed someone to review my severance contract. Even though this was not his specific field of practice, he again patiently listened to me explain all the details of what had happened, offered kind words of sympathy and advice and reviewed the paperwork and contact relating to my severance. After a thorough review he shared his opinion with me and it helped me determine my course of action. I am forever grateful for his advice. He even went out of his way to follow up later and inquire further about my wellbeing. Mr. Krugler is not just a good and knowledgeable lawyer; I believe that he is as good and honorable a man as I have ever met. I became acquainted with him through my former employer and as I have gotten to know him better, my opinion of him has increased. I highly recommend him as someone who goes out of his way to find answers, to give good advice, and who truly cares about his clients.

She is very sincerely attorney and woking for client. I hired previous lawyer what she done; She asked me about spouse's bank statement for divorce dissolution file March'10, then I gave to her, She asked my spouse's occupation then I answered NAVY, she answered ' Oh that's easy!' I gave to her the statements, according to statement it was $50000 & $7000 in spouse's saving account. then when the temporary order came up, she didn't work it at all what I should get half of his property about the half of the money as property by WA state's law. I asked her later after Temporary Order about it, she answered ' I don't care'!! what a terrible attorney she is!! then she didn't finish the process but asked more than '$6000 crazy fee even I paid first $2000. then the office added each month high % interest then finally put it collection agency!! Now I got my new lawyer and started over the action again, this new lawyer is doing so great, and she is same fee what i paid my last lawyer. Now almost final, but collection agency called me and spouse seems to take out all money from the bank account then said don't have any money & job. So I am so regret now,at that time I should not hire Mary. Please be careful and find the lawyer who work for you sincerely...How dare the client don't understand English well at the time then she took advantage of that and don't care at all. My new attorney explained good for me till I understand ,very sincere person. Thank you for reading my comments. BTW now the collection agency let me know the amount 12k ..If my last lawyer could work well for me, could share spouse's property & pay for the fee what she asked at the time. I wish I could met Anna at the time in '10.

I researched several experienced cannabis attorneys - Ms. Massey was a real stand-out. I emailed her about a time-sensitive matter, but she was OOO. I reached out to her assistant, Karen Kane, at 7:01pm, who actually called me early the next morning. She had contacted Ms. Massey in our behalf; Ms. Massey referred the matter to her fellow, Chris Lynch, who called shortly after Ms. Kane. Mr. Lynch was able to give me the clarification I needed during our brief, complimentary consultation. I am beyond impressed with the care and attention provided by Ms. Masse and her team at Miller Nash LLP, and will go straight to them with our future needs.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
