I am very thankful to have found Rose Kasusky (Thompson) She appeared when I thought everything was lost and had no more hope. I made a mistake a few years ago and hired a lawyer to help me with my case. The judge said it was a simple case that All I needed to do is have my lawyer turn in all my paper work on time and it would all be solved. Little did I know I trusted the wrong lawyer and instead of helping me I ended up with a deportation order and felt betrayed I never thought a lawyer would do something like that. So I had a deportation order and I let a few years pass I didn't want to look for another lawyer I didn't know if I could trust anyone and was scared. In the end I knew I needed a new lawyer and started looking for one and I called many and they would all say that my situation was very hard and that it was almost impossible to open my case again since it was closed and I had that order. I was so sad and depressed I didn't know who else to turn to and then I saw another lawyer named Lillia Velasquez on T.V and I went to her office and she told me she would take my case but she was very busy and that my case needed attention As soon as possible. Then she told me that she knew a person who could help me Rose Kasusky she was a few doors down from Mrs. Velazquez. I went down to her and she greeted my husband my mother and Me with a smile and made us comfortable. Then she asked about my situation looked into it and also told me that it was a very difficult situation but that she would help me. THANK GOD!! She did in less then a week what the other lawyer could not do in 2 years she gathered up all the paper work and sent her assistant with me to immigration the day I had to turn my self in. The reason she sent her assistant was that she was already working on a case and had to help that person in court I believe but she left me with such hope that I was not afraid to go and talk to them with all the paper work she gave me. I went and told one of. The supervisors about my situation and how I was not helped the first time she asked me for my previous lawyers name and let me go. They opened my case up again and Rose did such an amazing job I still can not believe all she did for me. My case was done in 2013 with a great over turn and I can not express my gratefulness to Rose she sure went way beyond her way as a lawyer and made what most lawyers said was impossible possible. Thank you so much!!

I was originally referred to Mr. Bejar in 2010. I had a consultation with Mr. Bejar and I was very impressed and made me feel confident in my case. At this time, I had been to a consultation with another immigration attorney. Because I was in a difficult financial situation at the time, I decided to go with the other attorney to represent me in my immigration case. I 100% regret the decision I made to not have Mr. Bejar represent me. My attorney made a mistake with my case and brought so much stress to my life with more expenses. I obviously did not trust my attorney any more so I decided to visit The Law Office of Jan Joseph Bejar and hoped they could help me fix the mistake made by another attorney. My consultation was with Nicole Leon. Ms. Leon was very upfront and did not make me false promises. She was very nice and honest. She kept me in the loop throughout the whole process which I greatly appreciated! Nicole was able to successfully fix the mistake my other attorney made and I am now a US Citizen thanks to her. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Saving a few bucks is not worth a mistake that can affect you for the rest of your life. I am so grateful for this law office. I will continue to recommend this law office to everyone I know. Thank you Ms. Leon and Mr. Bejar!

I hired attorney Pavan Dhillon to complete my Parent’s Canadian Immigration application last year. Unfortunately, the application wasn’t selected in the lottery and we had to continue to wait. As soon as information about the new system (switching from a lottery to first-to-submit) was released, Pavan was proactive and ensured that we had all of the information required to increase our chances of being selected in the 2019. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have Pavan advise us through the process as it is with her guidance that we received an Invitation to Apply. As a busy professional, she kept me on track and made sure we knew what documents to gather well in advance. She explained the process clearly and she was always available to answer our questions. She bends over backwards for her clients and I would highly recommend Pavan if you are looking for a Canadian Immigration attorney!

Simply put, I can't thank Attorney Andres Moreno II enough. I went to Andres multiple times over the years for permanent residency and my citizenship paperwork among other things, each time he explained and helped me understand the particulars of what was happening in a professional and caring manner. Their are very few people in the world you can truly trust to make sure your interests are taken care and Andres is one of them. -Lorena

In 2016, my father was incarcerated. His case was very difficult so we hired an attorney (I will not say his name) from a different firm. This attorney did not show up to my father’s hearing after he repeatedly said he was. Instead, he sent Victoria Edwards to represent my father in court. I was very thankful for her presence; however, I was afraid that she would possibly bail out on us as well. She proved me wrong. Ms. Edwards and I began to communicate and talk about my father’s case. We met in several different occasions. Coming from a family whose first language is Spanish, Ms. Edwards was very patient with me having to translate to my mother what she was explaining to me since my mother did not know English. She answered every question and kept in contact with us with. She never treated us bad, always with respect. You can tell that she really wanted to help. Because our first attorney was not in the country during this event, Ms. Edwards took that extra step to organize my father’s paperwork. She even asked us for extra paperwork just to be safe. She would say “Anything you have that you think that may benefit your dad, I want it.” Because my father’s case was very complicated we had to switch to another attorney who was specialized in appeals meaning that Ms. Edwards was no longer our lawyer. Aside from her profession, she is a very nice woman. You can tell that she is passionate and enjoys helping people. I’m thankful my family does not need her any more, but what I do know is that if I ever encounter myself in another situation relating to immigration, she is the first one I will call. Thank You again Victoria for everything! (-:

A little over a year ago, we were seeking immigration representation. Our US electronics company was selling a majority of our business to a foreign corporation specializing in custom automated machinery and metal parts. We needed to transfer an engineering manager from Asia to the US to lead our expanding team designing, selling, installing, and servicing this high tech manufacturing equipment. This business expansion could not be accomplished without the transferring manager`s technical expertise here in the US. The problem: our US based company had under $400,000 in annual sales and only one W-2 salaried employee. After contacting immigration attorney after immigration attorney, including top rated business immigration specialists, we were given little hope. And then we met Michael. Michael asked very probing questions, studied our business plan and supporting documentation, determined our new manager qualified for the L-1A and EB-1C visas, and presented our extremely complicated case including around 800 pages of evidence so eloquently in his writings that the merits of the case popped out and were obvious. While preparing said documentation, the applicant`s wife developed a very serious medical condition which required she either travel very soon or she would not be able to fly for 5 months, a delay which would have devastating impact on our newly expanding business. Michael was determined to rapidly complete the application. He worked from 9AM in the morning to past 1AM at night, day after day, including Thanksgiving, until it was filed. Michael successfully obtained the L-1A visa a few weeks after submitting the application and the EB-1C based green card less than 3 months after filing the application for our firm`s new General Manager. Today, our company has three full time W-2 employees and a number of technical sales experts across the country. We have installed hundreds of thousands of dollars of our manufacturing equipment, bringing manufacturing jobs back to the USA. We have patents pending for our unique technologies. And all of this was possible because of Michael. It is difficult to convey the gratitude we feel to this extremely insightful, relentless, results oriented, honest, good-hearted, pleasant man. If your business is seeking representation to temporarily or permanently transfer an international manager to the US, and you want an attorney superbly knowledgeable and published in Bender`s Immigration Bulletin for his works in this specialized niche of immigration law, who cares enough to make this kind of herculean effort, I recommend them Sincerely, Derek PPM Inc

Immigration attorney Marta Victoria Canossa and everyone at Ortega, Canossa and Associates, PLC helped when I most needed help. I fled my native country after being a victim of domestic violence. With their help, I was able to see my application for political asylum approved. I was able to legalize myself and legally bring my four children to reside with me. I have told my story because I believe it is important that other women in my situation also seek help and not be afraid. Here, in the United States, there are many protections and opportunities, but it is important to work with a good attorney. I am eternally grateful for everything they did for and I will continue to recommend them.

Attorney O'Hara is an amazing attorney! He took the time to answer all my questions and clarify any doubts I had. He explained to me my case & informed me of how the process would be, so I wouldn't be fearful. He is very knowledgeable. Attorney O'Hara helped me with obtaining all my documents from USCIS to view my file, before submitting an application on my behalf to immigration. He gave me the confidence I needed to go through with this stressful situation and I received great news, all thanks to attorney O'Hara. Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
