Went to court with them and got a signed document by the NYS Supreme Court agreeing to a smaller settlement with monthly payments. Was told I'd get contacted by mail, email, or phone in regards how to pay. Never received a thing. After multiple calls, mind you never a call back, finally got a website and control number. Logged on to pay the amount was the original full amount. Called and got transferred a voicemail. Sent an email as well with the documents from court. If I do not hear back I will be submitting all the documentation to the FTC for negligent practices. You as a company CANNOT supercede the judgement of a supreme court that you agreed to. This seems like a scam to get people to purposefully not pay the agreed terms, so you can come after them again for more money. Update 7/31/24: I called again and spoke with a kind woman named Donna Green. She explained that the website will not reflect settlement amount, and that I only need to make my payments until the settlement amount is reached and not the full amount. I hope this bit of information is helpful for another person. Thank you for the explanation Donna Green.

At first they refused to work with me until I called a week later and got a different rep and she agreed to take the payment arrangement I can afford. You can't get a confirmation number if you pay by phone so I started making my payments every month on time online until this month I go to make a payment and the website is totally different. I inputted all the correct info to make a payment on my account and made the payment as well as took a snapshot. This was on the 5th of this month and today the 21st I received a letter stating I defaulted on my stipulation agreement and need to make my payment or there taking me to court. So on the letter I got today they have a totally different website but the website doesn't exist or it says website is not secure and tried from multiple devices. The phone number is totally different from the original paperwork they sent me as well as the website is completely different. I pull up the screenshot of my payment I made this month and oddly the account number doesn't match my account but all my info is correct. If a payment was missed then why would you wait until the end of the month to say something first of all and secondly they immediately threaten you. Technically I don't owe them a thing being they bought my debt from the original creditor and that was there choice to buy it. I didn't borrow from them so I don't owe them anything but to avoid court I decided to just pay it monthly until it's done. The reviews are horrible for this company. I called the original number to speak with someone and the greeting is now for another company. Something doesn't add up with this company and whoever is running this place needs to get it together

Don't pay these people. They make deals that you can pay this amount for a charge off that they bought for pennies. You had a contract with the original credit company not Forest and Garbage. They use illegal tactics to scare you. Just throw away any mail you receive from them cause it's junk mail. Use experion or another credit site and dispute all charge offs. You will get much further cause they have to prove you owe money which you did but not to these bozos. Also if they say they couldn't reach you it's a lie they even send out text messages trying to get a reply block them. Look up some youtube vids on this there's alot of info about the tactics they use.

This woman is horrible. We hired her on because she was more affordable. I have had primary care of my son since he was 3 to 4 years old we decided to try to make a better life for ourselves and move to an that offered more opportunity for myself, and and knowing everything that his mother has done or has done, and how hard she’s made everything she try to take my son away for me and give them to his mother he was 14 years old. I’ve had him since he was a toddler this woman is an awful person, and I hope she is doing horribly, especially after she keeps robbing people of their money and their children.

They took me to court, after I asked them to send me the original contract I signed, I had been trying to pay down that debt for almost 2 years. I believe my husband who abandoned me took this card out in my name and I’ve been paying on it every sense. As when you do online applications, you do not have to psychically sign or show your ID. It was the only card I could keep during COVID and I had no access to use the card after I lasped a couple months in 2020z Discover closed my account in June 2023 with no notice, after I called them for a few months and they told me I’d be eligible for another reduced interest rate program again in a couple months. I paid down almost 2,000 dollars of my balance not including the 1,000+ they took in interest and I sent payments until September, until I could no longer afford to make them payments because the interest was too high. Discover when I called them told me I’d have to let it go to collections to get my interest lower and they couldn’t offer anything to help until it went to collections. Instead of it going to collections so I could get a deal, they instead sent it for me to be sued. They never emailed back, never called, never sent letters for negotiation, nothing. I am on SSI and cannot drive over 40 miles to the court house. I don’t own a house, a car, nothing. I literally get 700 a month right now and have 3 kids to support. Now they’re wanting me to pay the original balance without the 2-3,000 I already paid on it, because they added it all back with interest and fees. Now they want to add court and lawyer fees ontop of it still with it at the original interest rate of like 30% that they raised it to. I cannot work a regular job and have not worked a job in over 10 years because I’m disabled. I’ve paid off a lot of my other debts at lower rates, currently paying one debt collector as we speak who send me polite letters as the others have that completely removed the interest and just wanted me to pay what I originally charged. Discover and the company they choose to sue someone speaks volumes, as I asked for all my charges history and instead they just sent me the last 6 months of payments I had made and the few months I didn’t pay, and the balance went up over 1,500 dollars in 3 months of nonpayment. The minimum payment on the second month was almost 600 dollars, the first missed payment was over 300. The third month minimum payment to get up to date was 800, nobody realistically right now with inflation can pay that. If discover truly cared about honestly getting their money, they would have contacted me and told me they were closing the account and offered me a lower monthly payment and interest rate since the account had not be able to be used since 2020 during COVID. Meaning no charges could be made on it and they closed the card in June 2023, so they clearly could have tried to offer other options than a lawsuit. I’ve tried to call the law office and they’ve never answered. I will not be harassed by it, these credit card companies have raised their interest rates and are locking people into paying them more than their minimum payment in interest. I even settled with chase for 30% of my balance of the beginning of 2023, Discover is the only one I’ve dealt with that wants more than what they were originally owed when they closed the account, even through payments were still being made and care nothing about the consumers. I have no issue paying what I actually charged, but they cannot send me records, and want me to pay for potential fraud. After they closed my account in June 2023, in December 2023, I could no longer log on online to see any of my payments or past charges. I will never work with discover again and I do not recommend anyone do the same. Even if you make great money, chase and Citi are a lot more understanding.

I used Ms Haspel for a divorce case. Before I selected her and gave her a retainer, she was very optimistic about the potential outcome of a financial settlement, but once she had my retainer, she became very pessimistic and rejected any ideas I had about getting more than the worst case scenario she painted about what a judge would award me. They r a cookie cutter firm. U could do it yourself better. My exhusband’s attorney was FAR better than she was; she was outplayed at every point. When ever my ex asked for something, my question was ‘why should I do that?’ and her response was always why not? It was almost as if she worked for my ex and not me. When I told her the replacement cost for something my ex wanted, she refused to believe me. My ex and his attorney sent many ‘flame’ emails and she would just forward them to me. If she responded at all to the other attorney, it was in a very weak way. When I challenged her on this, she said their emails meant nothing as you ‘can’t litigate by email’ and she thought they were just trying )and succeeding) I in tormenting me. I had info about my ex that she said was useless as a judge wouldn’t consider it his decision. However, I thought she could use the info in any negotiation as my ex didn’t want this info to b known to our children or his family and friends. She did nothing. She kept trying to scare me with horror stories about women who ended up screwed by judges. She wanted to just wrap things up quickly (even though I was in no hurry) and agree to whatever they wanted and I should b happy just to get rid of him. I ended up using a mediator and advocating for myself and getting way more than she said I should get. Unless u want a quick divorce and r willing to give u everything to get it, find another attorney.

I hired this firm for my divorce/custody case. I was given terrible advice (I was told I could only get full custody of my 2 children in the fall if I asked for 40% in the summer. This turned out to be awful advice and I'm now having to start from scratch with another lawyer. I was double charged for a second attorney who never said a word in court. 15K was blown through in 3 months. Mine and my children's lives are in complete chaos because of this firm. I highly discourage anyone in a family law matter from retaining anyone from this firm.

I was trying to get a modification to my parenting plan and residential time. We were sent to Felicia to try and mediate things first, before litigating the matter bc we had a collaborative divorce. She was very biased to me (the father) and didn't listen to anything I had to say. She backed up my ex wife who lied through her teeth even when I had proof to the contrary. She expressed that all my wishes were me being controlling and I needed to learn to accept things. She also stated that I was unreasonable and no judge would ever grant me what I was asking for even though they are very standard parenting plan provisions. She was clearly sided with my ex wife and as a result my ex wouldn't even discuss the things I asked for. Felicia was very hostile to me and not a nuetral third party like a mediator should be. My ex wife got all the things she wanted while I walked away feeling like I just woke up from a nightmare. I wish I could go back and had done research on her bc I never would have gone to her! I would never, ever send anyone to her. She is very unethical in her practices. She is clearly easily persuaded to take sides. Horrible, HORRIBLE experience!

Felicia Malsby was recommended to be part of a mediation meeting between me and my ex-husband for the purpose of creating a visitation calendar. The mediator (Jamie) and Felicia Malsby charge an appalling amount ($400.00 per hour) for the services they provide. They both stated biased opinions, did not aid in the solution of creating a visitation calendar, and did not want to go according to the specifics of the parenting plan which was decided upon through a trial and court orders by a respected judge. Both Felicia Malsby and Jamie wanted only to take suggestions my ex-husband made for visitation, disregarding specifics of the plan, or my recommendations. Felicia Malsby charged an additional $400.00 at the end of the meeting for 'prep work'.

I hired Felicia last year for my divorce. This was an easy non-confrontational divorce. Because of this, I thought my cost would be reasonable. Was I WRONG!!! Felicia is money hungry! My "easy" collaborative divorce cost me 5 times more then my friends that used other attorneys. I wish I could go back a year, and do it all over again with an ethical attorney.

I would not recommend her for anything, lawyer or arbitrator. She talks a big game but does not follow through on it. She concentrates on meaningless items yet forgets about the big ones. Don't expect anything out of this lawyer in any reasonable time as she has no time constraints and you end up getting hurt financially because she forgets what she agreed to do. She plays a lot of games. This is one lawyer and arbitrator that needs to file her degree in her desk drawer and forget about practicing law as she has lost touch with what she is doing.

An ad litem was appointed to review the custody and he did his part but Leslie did absolutely little to nothing except "talk" to me about what he was going to do but never did. I communicated with the ad litem directly. It took almost 5 years to end up where we started and that was no change in custody and over 5000.00. His assistant is very pompous and disrespectful. Unprofessional. Leslie doe not need to continue to take on cases and accept money when it is obvious that his case load is extremely out of balance. It is not fair at all to his new clients.....

I even informed him how she treats the clients, but it did not change her treatment towards me (or possibly others). He did such a horrible job that I had to hire a different attorney to take my ex back to court. Mr. Cohn is expensive and will have you make an appointment with him (after the first charge consultation) only to burn up your retainer and not actually do any "lawyering." As a potential new client who was looking to have help as a landlord for a tenant eviction I believe the office manager was rude beyond belief. After constantly talking over me, talking down to me and mocking me I have decided to take my business elsewhere. Stevie, the office manager mentioned to me that she has been working in this industry for 45 years however customer service must not be one of the things she learned in the amount of time. She constantly talked down to me when I was only trying to gain clarity about how to send the retainer funds. She would rudely say are you done? I don't have any of your information in front of me in a very angry tone as if it was my fault. As she answered the door and put me on hold, she came back on the phone and I said may we start over? I think we got off on the wrong foot. I let her know that as a potential new customer I feel she was being very rude. She told me then, " I think that you were being very rude to me because I have told you how to send the money. " I told her that she did not let me finish and therefore was missing key information and therefore I was not able to convey to her the full scope of my concerns. I say all of this to say what a poor, poor office manager and I would never ever do business with such quality. It is unfortunate that an office manager has taken money from the table of her employer. If she has done this to me who knows how many others she has treated this way and who knows the amount of money that this company has lost due to her incompetence and lack of customer care

I hired Rolanda Dent to help me with a simple child support modification enforcement. I have a modification to my current child support and also back child support, referred to as arrears. All this was agreed upon in Mediation and signed by the court Judge James Lombardino. When my paperwork finally reached the enforcement division of the Attorney Generals Office of Child Support, they would only enforce the modified current child support, not the arrears portion or back child support that all parties had agreed upon. They told me it was worded wrong, my paperwork that is and I would have to go back to court to get it worded correctly to submit for enforcement. I talked to Miss Dent approximately three times over the phone and she told me it should be a simple fix to get my modification worded correctly to get the arrears submitted and start taking it out of my payroll check weekly. She only had time to talk to me while I was paying her $900 retainer fee !! The rest of the time I called for updates on my case I would get the answering machine or occasionally her secretary would take a message. This went on for about a YEAR, until I finally told her secretary I need to see her in person because did absolutely NOTHING to help me with this simple modification enforcement. I have given up trying to call this lady because frankly I don't think she ever cared about me as a person or a client and obviously now I know her specialty is not family law. Like I said at the start of my review, if you have a family law issue and you need real help with a real family lawyer, DON'T waste your TIME or your MONEY with this lady !!!!!!! Seth Broder was hired to provide legal service for me as power of attorney for the sale of my sister’s home in NJ. I chose Seth for two reasons. The first was that my sister used Shari of the firm for some estate legal services. The second was I checked on the internet what was a typical fee for attorney service for a home sale in NJ and found it to be $1500 to $2000. When I asked Seth what his fee would be he stated on the phone call “about $1500” as the” buyer attorney has more heavy lifting” As it turned out the sale was elongated due to the buyer having some difficulty securing financing. However, the fee ended up being over $5000. That is more than triple the original estimate. When asked to reduce the fee or even acknowledge the original estimate Seth refused. The fee agreement was based on hourly rates not a fixed fee. The services provided were professional and high quality but I felt I was taken advantage of in the high price required to be paid.

Took my divorce case after consultation. Supposedly worked on it until I was on vacation in another state. Had her secretary notify me 1 week before my court date that there was a conflict of interest. I felt like she had gotten a case offering more money and didn't want to be bothered with my case. I had to request that she submit a continuance for me, so she had my husband's attorney submit it for me? They refunded my retaining fee but kept my consultation fee of $150 until I called and complained that I would NOT have consulted with her if her office had done their job and recognized the conflict of interest before I even walked through their door. I was severely disappointed as I felt she would have done a great job.

This attorney was never in the office. Always out of town. His secretary never could answer simple questions, Not very friendly! Never received an itemized statement of what I had used on my retainer. I think he talked too much about things not to relevant to my case. Using up my retainer. In the end, he insulted me personally!!!!!!!! Never went back to his office!

Working on my case was an extremely lengthy (and thus more costly) process that only seemed to be moved forward when I called or showed up in person. It was difficult to reach him to voice my concerns. Once the case (an appeal) was filed in the courts, he would have nothing more to do with me and said so to me, I believe he could have checked on the progression of my case in the courts. He did not do so. I certainly would NOT recommend R: Michael Appell (especial if you are a woman) for your legal needs.

It took me 14 years to work up the courage for this. Rucker (not worthy of any respectful title) told me I should have let my father kill me because he's my elder. When petitioned, he falsified documents to make me think my charge was expunged because it was ruled self defense. It was self defense. He set my military career back 3 years, cost me, and my family money to get my life back normal, and continues to make biased decisions based on race, age, and income. In his chambers he laughed at me and told me I should have let my dad kill me before allowing my parents to join us in the room. Then he ridiculed me in front of my mom and dad. When my dad spoke up and n my defense, which is the person I struck in self defense, he told him he should have been stricter with me. This man is a laughing stick and the fact that he still holds a seat, and that the county CONTINUES to pay off removing negative Google reviews should be met with the strictest ramifications. My living state might trigger some personal consequences, nothing illegal, but it's worth it to see him and all his cohorts get removed for some real justice finally. I might lose my job because of political interests. I don't care. This man and his EXTREMELY OUTDATED, inhumane beliefs need to be dealt with. Any good he has done is not worth the atrocities he has committed to people based on age, race, or income. I still deal with how to handle any level of conflict or authority because of how he treated me when I was 17. I'm now a veteran, and have Management experience z as well as college education. None of which is usable because of the fear he gave me of authority.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
