I understand that she is using her mother's coat tail to establish her clients, but I was very disappointed that I could not get thru past the receptionist. I paid the consultation fee, only to find out what I already knew. Fees are extremely expensive. Comparing this to a really good pair of leather shoes. You know they are good, and will last a long time, but then you see the same pair with a label and you end up paying five times more. If you have the money upfront they will talk to you, but you might be stuck with a pair of over priced leather shoes that pinch more than just your pocket. I was ready to hire the team, but I could not talk to anybody without money. I wanted to pay another $1000, and even then I couldn't speak to anybody. I knew that I wasn't going to be guaranteed a win win case, but I needed answers to some of my painful needs. My desperate actions led me to a different attorney who did answer all my questions. I lost my $250.00 consulting fee.

This attorney wasted our time and was completely unhelpful. Not only that but he was rude and impatient. He offered to charge me $600 an hour, take the case and do nothing. Wow... go elsewhere.

If care about the result of your case, please save your self the trouble and stay away. He's lazy and unproductive, the only thing he knows how to do is blame everybody else but work. Lost tons of money and my case because of lazy a lawyer that did not want to put in the work. He actually pretended like he completely lost his voice in court, while everyone knew it wasn't true, which made the judge very upset. Just don't!

Chris Faucett was extremely convincing that he would pursue my contingent-fee case with vigor, but instead did NOTHING. When I complained about lack of action, Mr. Faucett terminated the agreement without cause, which forces me to give him the contingent fee for not doing any work.

This man is a risk management attorney for The University of Texas Physicians Healthcare System, and he was assigned to my case when my doctor, Michael Greaser, severely injured me. As I begged Mr. Boughal for healthcare help, I was stunned to see how dishonest he was, and how neglectful he was. When I wrote him and my doctor a note letting them know of my desperation, fear and suicidal feelings, he got right back to me telling that my note was "embarrassing, annoying and a waste of time". I have found numerous other patients that have been injured by doctors with The University of Texas Physicians, whose case had been referred to Tim Boughal who had similar experiences as mine. As one of them told me, "in my darkest and most desperate hour, I felt that Mr Boughal treated me like I was a dead dog on the side of the interstate". I just thought that, on behalf of many, it is time to point out how this man conducts his affairs. Because, to repeat, when I told him how injured I was - and that I was thinking of taking my own life - he felt it appropriate to tell me that I was "annoying" him. I will take that note with me to my grave. Thank you for allowing me to get these facts out to the public so that, if somebody is forced to deal with Mr. Boughal, they are a bit more knowledgeable about exactly who they are dealing with than the rest of us have been.

Ms. McLaughlin - was wretched she was the worst attorney I have ever encountered, she had her noise to stuck up in the air to pay attention. She was annoying and rude and I would never recommended her to anyone. I'm only sorry I had to give her 1 star because she didn't deserve it.

I hired him to do a case and he gave me a receipt saying paid in full which I still have and then he called me two days before trial telling me that he needed more money to defend me at trial or I had to take a plea bargain! I wasn’t guilty and I didn’t have to do anything but I was bent over the barrel by this attorney!

Douglas Duckett is not a nice person, he is a "my way or the highway" type of person - very inflexible. This is not a good personality trait for a lawyer, nor is it for someone representing you that needs to negotiate on your behalf. As a side note, he personally enjoys trolling the internet arguing with people online who disagree with him. He engages in group bullying against innocent people, causing me to wonder just how stable he might be. A normal person doesn't behave this way, only troubled people troll the internet, bully en-masse & throw tantrums when someone has a differing opinion. Dictators force people to be agreeable, they are not open nor able to negotiate - do you want this sort of lawyer representing you?

Keep getting threatening letters sent to my address for someone that hasn’t lived at that address in over 10 years. Called the number multiple times to report that person hasn’t lived there in many years and got talked down to by a rude person. They still keep sending the letters. Poor system and poor internal communication.

Does not keep in contact with his clients. When he does he doesn't remember them. Doesn't remember what he told. Doesn't keep notes. Not to mention he is extremely rude by interrupting his clients personal conversation because he assumed something. I would not let any judge appoint him as my attorney! Such a waste of time!

This law firm took ownership of Emerald Terrace Apartments on August 2023. My previous owner gave us a copy of the tenant estoppel letter where it states that our security deposit was transferred to Adam B. Kenner. Adam B. Kenner and his team kicked everyone out with a letter taped onto the doors labeled August 11 (but actually taped on August 16) stating that we needed to leave the premises by September 10, 2023. With such short notices I emailed and called to see if I can get an extension. They never responded or cared to respond to my or any other tenants questions and concerns. I paid nights at hotels and an extra fee for moving in early to another apartment, but I finally managed to move out of there. From September 2023 to now, I’ve emailed and called Adam B. Kenner several times to request my security deposit back. I took pictures of my apartment and have proof that I left it in great conditions. However, I have yet to receive my security deposit back. They always respond with “we’ll send it to you soon,” but never do. We are almost in August 2024! I do not think I would have to wait this long to receive my security deposit back. In addition to that I know of a couple who were the tenants to move in last and they also failed to receive their security deposit back. What a scam! I will update my comment when I do receive my security deposit; for now all I can say about my experience with Adam B. Kenner is that they lack communication, don’t seem to care about others, and like to pocket people’s money.

Paul Grosswald completely bungled my case. He didn't show up in court three times. He didn't provide discovery or contact the opposing counsel after the judge ordered him to do so. Every conversation was about him trying to get me to settle so his obligation would end because his fee was prepaid. On the fourth court appearance he made it clear that he was not going to be my advocate and I was forced to settle by withdrawing my complaint. He also doesn’t present himself in a professional manner.

Erin was a “friend of the court” in a family court case involving my ex-wife and myself; her costs were spilt between us for her investigation. Erin’s report was not filed timey causing delays. It is my understanding, the first hearing was delayed because she didn’t file the report at all. A couple months later, her report was filed late causing another delay. Her report claimed she spoke to individuals at our request, but no recollection of conversations were had by several individuals. One witness for my ex-wife was questioned about conversation with her, he responded “who?!” She also wrote in her report that my child had a particular diagnosis. The professional testified that he never diagnosed the child as she described. I found that very troubling. I was successful in the outcome from that hearing, but was very disappointed in her work.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
