Mr. Kaplan represented myself and another of his clients that was the defendant. During the settlement agreement signing, he switched the agreement from unilateral to bilateral in favor of the defendant. I did not see this until weeks after since I never received copies until I complained.

After I was laid off from my job, Mr. Kaplan and his extremely knowledgeable and dedicated paralegal, Pamela, reviewed my severance package for me. They found all kinds of problems with it, and gave me multiple options on how to proceed. They were very patient in explaining the details to me and allowed me to review each e-mail, fax, or other document or correspondence before it was sent to my former employer, greatly increasing my comfort level. Their billing was very detailed and much more than fair. I am extremely satisfied with my experience, and would recommend Kaplan & Associates, L.L.P. to my friends and family. If I end up starting my own business, I will gladly entrust this firm with all the legal details.

Charles Kaplan was very direct and honest concerning my sexual harassment case. From the start, I found him to be extremely attentive and available whenever I needed to discuss additional issues. He was a delight to work with and although knowledgeable, he was in no way intimidating and very easy to talk to about such sensitive matters as sexual harassment. I was extremely pleased with the outcome of my settlement, solely due to the efforts of Mr. Kaplan and his legal advice. I have already referred Mr. Kaplan to a friend and will continue to do so. This is one lawyer with integrity and a true caring for his clients- as well as a "no bull" attitude who will fight hard for your case. I'm indebted and will always recommend his services.

I hired this man to try to expunge my record in tennessee. Communication was great at the start so i paid him and waited. After more than six months i emailed him for an update g so after a month or so i called and spoke to him he said he would call back that evening, he never called. After a couple of days i tried calling twice but he was screening the calls and didnt answer. I finally emailed him to get my money back and he responded right away.So after giving him 750.00 dollars i got a check for 600.00. Cheap lesson i guess My advice is to look elsewhere if you need an attorney. From my experience he will take your money and then try to ghost on you!!!

Mr. Ligh decided to sue my family because we moved to a new home after having a house fire and his clients the Carrington Place Subdivision HOA chose to file suit against us after giving me 6 months to begin project and 18 months to finish and the Hoa pushed Randy Ligh to file suit after 5 months costing my family $3394.00 and this is how their lawyer and my Hoa welcomes new residents to the neighborhood! Pushing on us since we got here and why the heck would they file lawsuit when they gave me 18 for finish project and sue me after 5.🫤🤔we had a house fire for goodness sake and a very bad one losing everything! I’ve begged and begged these people for peace for my family because we have been through a lot our marriage is u set a lot of stress and this extra stress is going to end my marriage and this has absolutely been the case! One of the stipulations nowhere in the handbook is this a violating offense but amongst several unfair practices committed against us here is a few! I am forced to park behind a fence I’m still building because it “detracts” from our neighborhood when two houses next to me have vehicles that have not ran or moved since I’ve been there 1.5yrs and I no longer must park behind setback line it must be behind the fence that if I chop down would not hide my truck and they couldn’t sue me because the fence project would be cancelled not completed! Then I am being told I can not have patio lights above my drive way which is barely seen from the road and before they made me cut 4” off my gate it wasn’t visible from the road and why is everyone else allowed these huge arches on their gates but I found recently one HOA member said well it’s because they regret approving a wood fence and wish they had only approved rod iron bar gates because they want transparency but I’m sorry because they already approved it I bought and built the gates plus screw transparency because they violated even advertised my family on the front page of their newsletter which created a mob literally …like someone came to my house who lived 4 houses away and pulled a knife on me in my front yard when it was just me and my 8&10 yr old daughters there! Plus Hoa architectural board of directors lady came down after I called cops and she came to the rescue of the people who pulled a knife on me saying I cause problems all the time which is a lie because I never leave my house so I don’t cause anything and if I did while not leaving my house then what is so bad really…name one thing that’s a problem I caused and why do they condone the offenders who pulled a knife on me at my house in my yard and about my patio lights here is a pic that since I moved here I have made nothing consistent progress improving the exterior by far and i out every blade of zoysia grass down removed 4 tree and have the most beautiful landscape hundreds types of flowers having now best grass beat gardens and best fence and in this pic I decorated my landscape with lights because I’m a landscaper but you will see my fence that has a hidden tape light behind the 1x4 trim so it cast light down without seeing the light strip itself and behind the fence u can see the lights strung zig zagging across driveway overhead and they don’t allow that to me only and violate me only for these but the second pic is a neighbor a few house down from the president and he/she has the gutters with led lights already installed on them and they keep these gutter lights on that looks like Spanish town parade coming through every single day yr round since they recently got and let me say I do not care about their lights. I like the indifference character each person does and is allowed to decorate their house but if the HOA isn’t fining them in pic 2 but ruthlessly Pursuing me then it’s compiled with rest of evidence that proves them targeting me and I’m still unclear why because we came from a house fire so pic one my house lights over driveway and this was during Christmas 2nd pic free neighbor! so much stress my wife decided divorce when I begged HOA for peace and I lose my family

I have a nuanced issue concerning MERS, real-estate law and contract law that I wanted to investigate. She produced a paper containing much of the knowledge I had already obtained. I believe she thinks my request to investigate the issue was either a wasted effort or unethical because I am not in foreclosure. If I were in foreclosure, I believe she would have been more interested in pursuing the issues. I may just be projecting my beliefs. Our communication was cut-off by her abruptly, so I don't feel confident I know her reasons for discontinuing our communication. Either way, your mileage may vary.

I hired him in 2015, he would not listen to any of my suggestions - (I had been a paralegal for 27 years) He wrote a letter to defendants without a deadline date or a date to get back with him regarding any type of settlement. He said one thing and did another. Seemed only to be concerned with him getting paid and not wanting to hurt the other side's feelings. I would not recommend him at all unless you want to lose and spend a great deal of your own money.

Unfortunately, I have had experience with many attorneys. From my experience some attorneys will drag on your case so they can pay off a car payment, other attorneys are more concerned about their invoice then about your case and finally there are some that don’t have a strong grasp of what you case requires and will take it on lose the case for you but they get paid either way. After so many negative experiences, I hired Mr. Papaliodis. My cases were complicated and intertwined with one another but Mr. Papaliodis was honest of the possible outcomes and he confidently took them on without hesitation. He was always straightforward. He was always available when I needed him and answered my questions. We will be forever grateful. I am truly grateful that I found him and only wish to have found him sooner. Ashley was great at handling my small claims cases! She brought to my attention things that I knew were concerning, but I didn't know my personal legal rights. In the beginning follow-up was great. By the end of my cases it was like pulling teeth to get any feedback. I respect the fact that she has other clients, but the way I often got treated for asking questions is not acceptable. She is a great attorney; the stress that came along with it though, made me know it was a blessing to have my cases over with.

I was arrested for a dwi. I was told by the arresting officer that I would have a good case, due to the fact that I was polite and was only .1 over the legal limit. I came to David and and he wanted $3500 dollars to take my case. I should of had more questions and I should of evaluated my situation alittle more carefully. However, I wanted the problem delt with and it seemed like an easy out. I gave him the money and I got a deal from the prosecutor that would keep anything from going on my record. However I feel like a public defender could of got time the same deal for free. So I paid $3500 for something I could of got for free. In criminal cases the strength of your attorney is not nearly as important as the strength of your case. Also wanted $1500 to have my record expunged. I can't help but feel that $1500 is alittle steep for essentially filing paperwork.

Mark is extremely well connected. He was highly recommended to me and he exceeded my expectations. I'm ugly and bipolar, and he did a stellar job defending me. It is unfortunate that people don't know how to work with attorney. They have a heavy case load and can't remember the details on the fly. They HAVE to refer to their files before giving an answer. Every case has it's own quirks. And people micromanage because they are infinitely more vested in the outcome (unless it's a contingent fee!--then BUYER BEWARE. you receive a 1/3 and get taxed on 100%). Mark even told me that. How honest is that? BTW, the outcome was better than I expected. Thank you Mark. You really helped me out of a legal nightmare.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
