Tom Boylan did an amazing job dealing with Evernest our rental agency for a home in Franklin. They simply bullied renters into having no reasonable recourse but to either accept their approach or seek an Attorney. We did the latter. We ended up paying Tom around $2K for what was services over a few months dealing with them. In total, we'd have lost about $8K had we not had him on our side. It was well worth it, and also really wonderful to not allow this rental agency to simply do whatever they want without regard to meeting their obligations. Tom was accessible, responsive, and spot on with his advice. Will use him again in the event we are unfortunate enough to need an Attorney in the future!

Mrs. Musslewhite was retained by our company on a difficult Chapter 13. Our last lawyer let the debtor live mortgage free for years. Mrs. Musslewhite got the situation resolved in less than 2 months, and we received all of our money back with interest. I don't know how she did it, but we were extremely pleased. That is one smart lawyer.

I worked with Levi on my father's personal injury case. He slipped on a mat in one of New York City's well know hotels. Due to their negligence and the hard work and dedication of Mr. Updyke, my father is well taken care of and no longer has to struggle to pay his medical bills. Levi truly cares about his clients and wants what's best for them. He has great bedside manner and makes you feel special. I would recommend Levi to all of my friends and family. Trust me you are in good hands.

John is an exceptional lawyer and his staff is A1. John fought for me from start to finish of my case (Federal Drug & Conspiracy Charges) and we WON! John is not one of those attorneys that are just here to get your money, he is a very compassionate person and truly cares about his clients. I cannot express how much I am thankful for the work John and his staff put into my case. He never promised me anything except that he would fight for me, and he did just that and won my case. He stays in contact with you, and informs you of everything that’s going on throughout the case, which means a lot when your life is on the line. I recommend this lawyer 100%

Philip went above and beyond. He is very professional and quick witted. What I liked most is that he did not draw things out. From the time I filed for a modification to the time it was granted and the final order was signed by the judge was only three weeks. Some stuff came up last minute and he jumped through some hoops to subpoena witnesses for the next morning at court. He worked hard to make hat happen last minute and still with minimal cost. It only costed just a hair over $5,000. His retainer is $5,000, but definitely worth it. Some attorneys charge you a retainer and then start charging you for transactions. The upfront cost for Phillip covered all but about $300 of the total cost. He will work hard for you and he's sharp and to the point. Have a list of questions you need to ask before going in. His firm has offices in Greenville and in Emory. They are very familiar with local courts and judges

i sold my co-op apartment this past Fall. i had a particularly difficult buyer, who constantly sought concessions from me even after contract. i was nervous from Day 1 that i was going to lose the sale, but with the help of peter t roach and associates, i closed and came out ahead. throughout the process the staff of peter t roach and associates answered my endless emails and phone calls, explained the intricacies of the legal negotiations, and kept me well apprised of the status of negotiations. i will certainly retain peter t roach when i am ready to close on my purchase in the Spring!‎

The best attorney I have ever met with. He delivers what is promised in the time he said he would. I would recommed all the attorneys in this office. Beth and Kate were very pleasant and knowledgable. Ryan is licensed in both NC and SC. The receptionist was pleasant. The team works well together. We were here on a DUI charge and all worked out in our favor.

Rating 5.0 Review George is a fantastic attorney! I was nervous about appearing in court after my ex-wife attempted to sue me twice. Both times, George made me feel at ease with his knowledge, experience, passion and confidence. He protected me through the entire ordeal. He was always there for me. He prepared me for what could happen in both best and worst case scenarios. I will definitely retain George for any future needs and will most definitely recommend his services to anyone who seeks an excellent attorney.

I completed a real estate transaction with Mr. Hegedus after a failed attempt to negotiate a previous transaction. I've worked with other lawyers and have not found one so responsive, knowledgeable, and helpful. If not for Mr. Hegedus, I could have made some serious mistakes, and I so appreciate his assistance. I was shocked to see the other negative review - I strongly suspect it is from someone who was not a client of Mr. Hegedus' - but who was on the wrong side of his expertise. If you're looking for a lawyer for a real estate transaction, look no further than Mr. Hegedus.

Wade Casey is fantastic! Got to know Wade several years ago after working with his partner on my divorce. Wade is an honest Christian man who treated me more like a friend than a client. He took time to answer my questions and explain the law in layman’s terms so that I understood each step of the way. The first time I worked with Wade was when I was in the middle of a very unpleasant and stressful situation with a contractor. Wade resolved the matter very quickly with a letter and a phone call. Since it was non-litigious, he charged me a very reasonable set legal fee. Over the years I have sought his counsel/services on a variety of issues. Each and every time he has been extremely helpful and has offered wise counsel. He is sensitive to the cost/benefit of his work. He would tell me up front if a subject did not fall under his expertise and would recommend an attorney he felt could better handle it. He would also tell me if legal action was not worth my time and expense. Something else that I really appreciate about him is that he makes having an advocate affordable. No job is too small. He is diligent and detailed, a belt and suspenders lawyer who will make sure that all the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed. Personally, I can’t imagine using anyone other than Wade.

Bruce is a genuinely good man. Most attorneys of the attorneys I've encountered have a very fluid code of ethics, but Bruce is different. He has always given me good advice and as long as he has worked with me, I have grown to truly respect him. I can count on him. My divorce has been very ugly, lengthy and expensive, but Bruce has been like a rock. If you meet him ask him about his jaguar speech on your first visit and that will tell all you really need to know about this man and his experience. I feel Bruce needs to be more aggressive sometimes, but I have learned to trust his experience more than my intuition. His paralegal Shelley is equally outstanding. I am honored to give him my highest recommendation.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
