Jeff has a strong understanding of business and he is very inquisitive. He believes in helping those who may not be able to help themselves. It is obvious that he loves his work and is thrilled by the prospect of delving into new ideas or unraveling some complicated problems. He is always finding creative approaches to getting his clients educated and is very responsive to help asap. He has always come with solutions and not more problems to pay for. I like Jeff's creativity and eagerness to learn, teach and promote not just himself but all of his clients as well.

Abbott and I have worked together for over a year on a feature film (www.KentonBartlett.com). She works as our entertainment attorney. Though she began work on the project early in her career, she took on the challenge full-heartedly and let no obstacle stand in her way. If she didn't know the answer to a particular problem, she found the solution immediately. Her turnaround on legal documents and overall responsiveness is unsurpassed. She's both friendly and professional. She continues to work on our project pro-bono with the enthusiasm and pro-activeness of a top-paid legal adviser. If you have the chance to work with Abbott, you're making a mistake to pass it up. Feel free to contact for a personable evaluation of Abbott: [contact information removed]

I had to file BK back in 2009, it was one of the most devastating things I have ever had to do, but my husband became sick and I just could not do it anyone, I meet Richard Zirt and he explained the whole entire process to me and held my hand through the entire process within 6 months I was already released of all my debts and it was done. Richard has since has continued to be there for us and even after 5 years and at times something comes up and I have to call him, he always answers my questions and still get involved if he has to if I need him to . He has a great secretary name Patti who is always there for you when he is not around or in court. I promise you that you will not find an better attorney to handle your Bankruptcy case.

The best way to characterize the work of Brett Green is to share that he has been my attorney for almost a decade now. He was able to guide me through everything from the start up to successes and everything in between. From drawing up standard contracts for protecting myself or my business, or dealing with delicate and intricate legal situations, he manages to be clear and strong while remaining diplomatic and approachable while negotiating and anyone who works in entertainment can tell you, that's not common, nor easy. He consistently advises us so that we are protected in advance so that we don't get ourselves into legal issues and on the occasion where it's unavoidable he creates a clear path and navigates us through the chaos to where we can understand all of our options. He never encourages us to get into battles we can't win and often times finds a way to mediate and get everyone to the table to agree on terms that they can feel good about. He's a fantastic lawyer and while he didn't sign up for it, a fantastic personal and business advisor. If you're looking for someone who can really be on your "team" Brett is the guy.

I have had many dealings with Attorney Frank Curtis. He was recommended to me years ago by the Author's Guild organization. I can say that he is one of the most knowledgeable publishing attorneys one can find. I have heard other attorneys say that he is the smartest attorney they know, and the most trustworthy attorney in the business. I concur. I would trust this attorney with everything I have. If you want the best, you'll find the best with Attorney Frank Curtis.

I am writing to recommend David F. Schwartz, who I am proud to call my attorney. David has been my attorney since 2002, when I formed an LLC and took on investors to produce the play, “Jonna’s Body, Please Hold,” that I wrote and star in. He expertly led me and my co-producer through all the contracts, filings and paperwork. We raised the funds and had a great 7-week run (the play was nominated for two LA Ovation Awards – Best World Premiere Play and Best Lead Actress). Since then David has ushered us through numerous contract negotiations as we formed a second LLC to produce the movie version and made a licensing agreement with a major corporation to fund it. On the movie itself David has served as our production counsel, handling all our Above- and Below-the-Line contracts, Promissory Notes, and Licensing Agreements. I’d like to add that this has been a somewhat fraught production full of clashing artists’ egos. Some of the negotiations have been difficult, and throughout David has acted with nothing but equanimity, thorough consideration, and deft protection of me and my interests. David is cheerful and optimistic, a problem solver. He outlines the legal issues for me clearly and thoroughly. His writing is impeccable. His manner when negotiating is clear and direct, firm yet friendly. I found his legal advice to be thoughtful and fair. On rare occasions when he notes unfamiliarity with a particular issue, he has been diligent and prompt with his research, quickly getting me the answers I need. I think the best way to sum it up is to say that I feel absolutely safe in David’s hands. I am not a natural business woman, but I feel confident and protected knowing I have David looking out for me. I consider his work the most important and rewarding business investment I’ve ever made.

I can't say enough about the wonderful service that Bob provided during a very stressful situation. We had hired another attorney to transfer property and set up an LLC and this attorney, we later learned, was completely incompetent. Bob was referred to us and without hesitation stepped into the paperwork disaster left by the former attorney. He tenaciously worked to rectify our dilemma, he thoroughly explained the situation we were in, he was always available to answer any questions we had for him and was able to rectify our state of affairs in a timely, professional manner. I would recommend this attorney without hesitation.

Jim's a great lawyer he always informs you and keeps you up to date. He's down to earth and will take the time out to explain to you just exactly what's going on in your case so that you have a good and knowledgable understanding. You'll always be up to speed with Jim. I'd highly recommend him over many other lawyers. Some lawyers are out for their own financial gain but Jim will work hard for you to get the justice you deserve.

We hired Mr. Mcferren at the last minute before a jury trial. It was a lengthy trial that resulted in the termination of parental rights for 1 mother and 2 fathers. All were unfit parents. The babies are brothers and only 1 and 2 years of age. Mr. Mcferren read every document that was presented to him quickly and accurately. He then defended these babies with the strongest arm of the law. Justice was definitely done in this case. I have never known of another attorney with such heart felt compassion and deep concerns for their cases. He also helped us financially. To my own surprise I was actually charged less than the normal fee. He knew we were having a hard time financially and has gone beyond any expectations to not cause more of a hardship on my family. I highly recomment Mr. Eric Meferren as an attorney to accomplish any goal he sets out to make, and to win any case he accepts. I will not hesitate to use him in the future for anything necessary.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
