We hired Mr. Shapiro for my mother and she couldn't do any better. We are extremely happy with the results Mr. Shapiro is always available phone/text/email, he has very much patience we are 5 sisters on a case of my mother and he would always have time for each one of us and never frustrated always calm and with a great answer he speaks great Spanish also and that helped a lot too because my mother only speaks Spanish, I would not want to have to deal with anything criminal again but if I was to I wouldn't think about it twice to hire Mr. Shapiro.

I've been working with Amber and her team for the past three years. She's one of the most important people in my life. She was able to get a very serious charge dismissed for me.
The amount I paid her felt like a lot at the time but in retrospect it was nothing. I would've found a way to pay her twice that. I heard about someone who had her appointed by the court and I just think, what incredible luck. If you get her appointed or if you've just hired her just do what she asks and you can sit back and relax. I feel so lucky to have chosen her to represent me. I just called her office to request information regarding a case from 20+ years ago. Her office manager, being 30+ years experienced in crime records reporting, took her own time to advise me on the process and how to proceed, without having to hire a legal counselor at all. Mrs Vazquez has the right team working for her, and if I am ever in a need for a legal counselor again, I won't shop around, I've already found the right counselor and team. When you look for a Lawyer you want someone that you can trust. Amber keeps her word. I found Amber outside of AVVO and hired her. She has compassion but has the intensity when it is needed. She has a passion for what she does and that makes a difference in the case. Amber is aggressive in the courtroom and her presence is known when she walks into the room. I interviewed about 5 law firms. Selected Josh and could not have been happier with the choice. He walked me through the process. He gave me his personal cell phone, actually called me back and responded to my texts. He was able to have my charges reduced from two felony charges and than a few months later, dropped. At 57 and having to deal with a few attorneys in my younger years, I didn't like any of them. I would say "I didn't like ANY attorney" because they ALL had the "better than anyone attitude", etc. I ALMOST didn't call an attorney; was just going to Public Defender & plea out because wasn't interested in an attorney just out for the money when they knew the "End Result" would be the same; however, at the suggestion of my bondsman, I decided to call & talk to Josh figuring nothing to lose by making the call. THANK GOD I made that call in May 2014; With 1 question from Josh I realized it was not that cut & dry; AND, I felt he was being honest, not just trying to suck a client in for money! I hired Josh. Since the beginning, I could feel his sincerity with my case. 1st time I can honestly say an attorney (Joshua Rydell) went above & beyond any expectations I ever had!! I had F3 & M1 charges; March 2017 (almost 3 years after arrest), F3 & M1, was amended to M1 only with 12 mos prob & possible off in 6 mos; total court & probation costs will be $318; AND all would have been thrown out due to the warrant if my employment time clocks had been working both days in question. From the beginning I told Josh I didn't want any charges, that I wanted everything just thrown out like nothing ever happened. Haha, right? Josh was thorough, detailed, creative, exceptionally knowledgeable with the laws (AN ASSET FOR ANY CLIENT), and never in a million years did I even expect the AWESOME outcome he got for me. He is even going to file for early release of Probation to get that over in the 6 months, as well as have the records sealed since adjudication withheld. I honestly can't say enough good about this attorney and how he really did save me from what could have ruined me personally & professionally. Now, after I do the probation and we go back, it will be as though nothing ever happened which is just as good as everything thrown out to me. He is VERY reasonable with his costs which is usually unheard of with attorneys, again, Joshua is just different. He has very rare qualities not usually seen in criminal attorneys. I will and would recommend this attorney, Joshua Rydell, to any friend or family member should they ever need representation with the utmost confidence they would receive the ABSOLUTE BEST legal representation possible!! He is truly the best and I thank the good Lord for helping me find my way to Joshua for help. I can’t say enough about how awesome Brent Horst is. After the very first meeting I felt a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders and I knew that everything was going to be alright. The quote above is one I wish had come to mind before retaining the first attorney in my criminal case. It is never a good decision to make a decision from anxiety and fear of unfamiliar circumstances.
What prepares a person without a criminal record to take the next step in the judicial process after bonding out of jail? Nothing.
Living an honest life for 60 years means little when falsely accused of domestic violence. Watching as mandatory arrest and no-drop prosecution policies implemented to protect victims of domestic abuse were skillfully exploited and manipulated by the mother of my son's young child was staggering.
The hurried decision after being released from the mandatory Metro Jail 12-hour hold to pay legal retainer fee was a novice's mistake. Choosing from a list of private counsel found in the reception area of the Public Defender's Office without researching experience and case results almost jeopardized my rights and freedom. Unlike my accuser, there was no army of advocates waiting to guide me through the process.
Thankfully, I was able to find Mr. Horst's website in my online search for highly-rated experienced criminal trial attorneys. After watching Mr. Horst's video “My Client My Fight”, I knew he was the person for my defense.
The most repeated characteristics of successful criminal defense attorneys mentioned in articles I read online were:
Credibility, Communication Skills, Knowledge, Confidence, Civility, Personal Involvement and Courtroom Demeanor and my addition to the list - Backbone. Mr. Horst possesses them all in spades.
From the beginning, my decision to have the case bound over to Criminal Court was non-negotiable. Many people said to me, "Why not just accept the General Sessions hallway offer of judicial diversion, conviction, 16 week offender program and no jail time just to be done with the stress?"
Mr. Horst said me, "Why?"
Words cannot describe the feeling of waking up the morning after my case was retired. For the first time in almost a year the anxiety and thoughts of an emotional trial were gone.
I am very grateful for Mr. Horst's endless patience, understanding and guidance during the judicial process.
Hopefully, I will not need a criminal trial defense attorney in the future. I would, however, without hesitation, recommend Mr. Horst to anyone facing charges in criminal court.

I needed legal counsel for each of my older teenage boys, both for separate issues within a two year period (2014 and 2016). I picked up William on a UBER ride and he was so cool ! He Loves practicing Law and was more then willing to advise me with my pressing Legal Questions.( I actually got a Free Consultation and ultimately a awesome Attorney out of that ride). I had servers probation violations and was getting know where in live besides inside jails and prisons. The judge had enough of me a order a fugitive warrant. I ended calling serval lawyers that said to turn yourself in and I couldn’t help you with the case. I thought for sure I would end up back in prison and when I get out return into my old habits. Mr. Goldstein is one of the best lawyers I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. It was the worse situation I could have on my record and would result in termination of my employment. I hired John for a fire arm I was wrongly arrested for... John came to visit me In jail on a Sunday with sweats and a T-shirt I’m thinking ok he’s gonna say what he has to... do he begins to tell me how I never should have been arrested I. The first place and how by law the case has to get thrown out in preliminary, I’m thinking too good to be true, so I say to him “ Listen Man U don’t have to gas me up just be real with me “ he looks me dead in the eye and says I got 8 questions that’ll have this case dismissed!!! . Fast forward to preliminary I lie to you not he put the cop on the stand asked him roughly 7-8 questions then turned to the judge and says “ yea your honor I don’t think this is enough to move to trial I ask that the case be dismissed!.. the judge says “ yea I agree I don’t think so either, case dismissed... by the way he has beat about 5 of my friends cases by now..! 5STARS

Walsh took my case and I thought his price was high. Then he told me he was charging that much because he was trying the case and I was going to be found not guilty. This was a serious gun case and he seemed like it was a sp ending ticket. We went to trial and after about 5 questions the judge found me not guilty. I couldn't believe how easy he made it look.

Our eviction case pushed Curt & his co-counsel team to their limits in every way, & they pulled through w/ flying colors. Our case, while practically over in our favor, instead of being a normally 1 month long UD, still lingers on after ~8 months not because of Curt, but because our opponent was ruled to be one of the most mean/obstructive Landlord attorneys out there, w/ over 20 years experience, & have an endless dirty playbook they launch against tenants which puts them at the top of the list of infamous, notorious Landlord attorneys- they are also a high volume Landlord side firm w/ HUGE resources & they do everything possible to bury & overwhelm their opponent, to run up costs & force missed response deadlines. For the first 4 mo, just to keep up w/ them, Curt had to dedicate his complete resources to our case (virtually shutting down his legal practice). Curt was able to get each of their mean legal tactic stricken down, & then, icing on the cake, got the judge to slap them w/ one of the largest (if not the largest) sanctions (penalties, like contempt of court) ever for their mean/obstructive behavior. Judges almost never give much sanctions, so Curt (& team) winning us that monster one was no small feat.
I was present at many of his most important court motion hearings in our case, and closely read through the endless court hearing and deposition transcripts, digesting his responses, counter arguments, & lines of questioning. I could go on endlessly about all the twists & turns that he had to overcome, but suffice it to say that given our case has pushed all the boundaries of UD law/process, he has demonstrated himself to me to be an extremely competent, legally knowledgeable, adept, tenacious, & caring lawyer (& person). He has great instincts w/ the SF civil Judges, depositions, and real-time litigation strategy. W/ Judges, he’s actually very respectful, takes allot of abuse, rides the line to stay on their good side and builds a solid history and rapport. In depos, he’s got amazing instincts.
His instincts to discover criminal/foul play in physical evidence were also very impressive. I was also amazed at how he can dig into and own all the endless facts of our extremely complex case. Most all other attorneys would just gloss it over, and ignore/miss key (even hidden) evidence.
He also great on client communications stuff, and is very open to client input & guidance when helpful, yet is always polite and frank when it is not. He is extremely respectful, and has almost zero ego/elitist trips of most lawyers. No games or angles… he’s a strait shooter!
He knows his court procedure pretty well, and is a tenacious fighter. When it comes to fighting the most notorious landlord firms, he only takes clients that are willing (and able) to go all the way to jury trial, and we wanted a firm that had effectively scrapped w/ them before, and could handle jury trial. I had interviewed literally dozens of top notch attorneys (most billing $300 - $450/hr, and many were obvious rip offs, looking to take as much $ as possible, and don’t care about results), and even the most experienced in SF UD cases (e.g., 15-20+ yrs exp) had only gone to jury trial once, and the rest had no jury trial experience, just doing some bench trials, which is no good for the bogus nuisance UD case maliciously slapped on us. He has close co-counsel associates who fill in gaps where his is practice not as strong. In our case, he teamed up w/ Marc Branco to shore up UD law practice. So, that combined w/ his jury trial experience (and their hunger to kick their butt), is what sold me on their ‘dynamic duo’ to go up against them. His criminal law experience was very pertinent to our very (fact driven) nuisance UD case, and he’s adept at picking apart (hostile) witnesses an triangulating to converge on favorable facts to the case.
So, in sum, I can vouch that Curt (& team) are very competent re UD legal practice, highly ethical, they get results.

We hired Nick Thornton, for our son who was facing Class C Felony charges. Nick was professional, kind honest and truly interested in a good outcome for our son. Our son made a plea deal to serve 6 years. Nick was there for him every step of the way. He answered all of our questions too, and explained things to us clearly and in a manner we could easily understand. When it came time for my son’s sentencing hearing, we had held very little hope the sentence would be reduced by more than one year. Nick fought for our son forcefully and proficiently. He presented extra research to the judge which was the key that changed everything! My son’s sentence was cut in half. It meant so much to us that Nick was as pleased for our son as we were. I first reached out to Nick because of his resume on Avvo. When comparing to other lawyers in the area on this metric, he was a no brainer. For context, I hired him in regards to a drug case. Leading up to my final court date, we had not reached an agreement with the prosecutor and because of this I was facing nine months in jail. Coming into that final day there was a lot of uncertainty, but Nick consistently assured me of his confidence on the law. Although I had my doubts, he came prepared and had certainly done his homework in regards to my specific case. Through extensive argument in court, the judge deemed Nick to be correct and the jail time was reduced to probation. Without him I would likely be writing this review nine months from now. I was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly making threats in the workplace. This event never took place, as I was miles away from the office building at the time when this alleged (fictional) event took place. The allegations was made by a clerical staff with whom I have little contact. There were no witnesses. This delusional fabrication was probably orchestrated by my boss who felt too much competition coming from me, and wanted to have unlimited power. Amazingly, DA's Office decided to pursue the case without an iota of material or any other evidence, based solely on the allegation made by a secretary who has many personal and family issues, a very unhappy and bitter person. Nick collected all the facts, interviewed right people in preparation for the trial. He had several consultations with me, and prepared me well for the case. During the trial, Nick was eloquent, forceful but respectful. It was clear very early in the trial that the only outcome possible will be favorable to me. Nick dominated the trial as a lawyer. I would strongly recommend Mr. Nick Thornton as a criminal attorney to anyone in need of such legal assistance. He is a wonderful communicator, open, and never sugarcoating. You will know where you stand every step of the way. A++
