I had 4 tickets from United States Federal Park Rangers. They were driving off designated roadway, possession of tobacco by a minor, fleeing to elude, and speeding 95 MPH in a 50 MPH speed zone. The park rangers didn’t arrest me that day, but when I had my day in court those officers wanted me jailed. Davis got the court to drop all charges except fleeing to elude and I walked away with a $1500.00 fine and nothing more. I would definitely recommend his services time and time again because you can’t beat a deal like that in my opinion.

Walt has been my business / corporate attorney for many years and in my former company (prior to being acquired) Walt was instrumental in releasing more than $200,000 being held unfairly by a large merchant account company. He has also represented us in smaller matters, but always demonstrated an above average ability to see through the problem quickly, come up with a creative (within the law) solution that most attorney's would not have. Highly recommend.

I am an attorney who handles Social Security cases and Social Security appeals to the Federal District Court. I just hired Sarah to appeal a case to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals for me. I have had a lot of experience with her over the years, and she is one of the best Social Security briefwriters in the country.

I am only partially into the lawsuit but it has been in process for a long time. The lawyer does not seem to hand hold or sugar coat anything but is very straightforward. He explains facts well. He is very responsive as are his associates. So far I would highly recommend him.

Colin accepted my case when other attorneys did not want to bother since it was rather complicated. He was diligent and was knowledgeable. When he did not have an immediate answer to my questions he researched the issue and got back with me promptly. He was professional and achieved results.

Devon was knowledgeable, transparent, patient and kind! I am the review queen and he was advised I would be letting my 2.1 million (the 1 million is imaginary) know how he did! All I can say is hire him if you want it done right. He represented me as a tax lawyer, but I was actually referred by a gentleman he represented in another case totally different from mine. Needless to say he’d grand slammed the others guys case too.

I first hired Clyde in 2019 when I first filed for divorce. I subsequently withdrew the divorce proceeding. after my ex-wife talked me into it then I used him. I hired him again for the second divorce filing. Of which has been now completed and very very satisfactorily. he has Demonstrated the professionalism and the personal attention to detail that was desperately needed in my divorce case and then after the divorce was final. We did the trust agreements and and will and medical power of attorney and stuff that I needed done. He did those after that. I would use him again anytime I need a lawyer and highly recommend him.

I contacted Mr. Dunlap in 2011 about a Land Contract deal that was going bad and my very first conversation he was ready to fight for me and when you are being taken advantage of and are feeling lost this is the kind of attorney you need instead of speaking with a attorney that drags and try to find out if you did something wrong he was on my side immediately and I have used his services ever since and has not lost yet! No one will take advantage of you with Mr. Dunlap.

When my mother needed to transition from an assisted living residence to a nursing home, Tom Begley's years of elder law experience were instrumental in helping me understand all of the elements I would need to take into consideration. He also helped refer me to other important resources our family needed as we applied for Medicaid and subsequently moved mom to her new home. These transitions are never easy, but Mr. Begley and Begley Law Group played an instrumental part in making it happen seamlessly.

Jonathan represented me for a multi-years long construction owner versus GC lawsuit, as well as provided regular counseling on everyday business matters throughout that time. He respects the relationship between attorney and client, and has an internal policy that he does not charge for phone calls with clients. His team was just as impressive. Highly recommend.

Michael Swartz briefly represented me in a matter involving possible securities fraud/breach of fiduciary duty. He was enormously impressive. He quickly and completely sized up a complex financial picture; his assessment was spot-on and his recommendations superb. I knew I was in the best of hands. Swartz has an extraordinary mind and he exudes competence and confidence. He was friendly and very accessible, but realistic and brisk. His approach was at once supremely thoughtful and pragmatic.

He answers his e-mail promptly, and of course, with a knowledge of the law, which makes you feel confident and secure. he is a fabulous litigator and has won many hearings for us. I would not hesitate to recommended Scott to anyone who has a legal situation, know matter how complicated. Hip, Hip and Who Ray for my good fortune in meeting Scott and using him for a very complicated problem.

Matthew Miller has assisted my family and me in litigation and business disputes in the past and has obtained excellent results. Although he is a trial attorney who works on larger cases, he took the time recently to help me with a "Red Light Camera Ticket." Matthew Miller is very professional as well as understanding. He felt that I had a decent case even though my research on the web turned up very grim statistics with regards to beating a Red Light Camera Ticket. He never made me feel like my case was lost. His engaging personality and encouraging words assured me I was in good hands. You know just by working with him that he knows precisely what he is doing. He'll help you get through your case and will fight with everything he has at his disposal to return the best results possible. Matthew's breadth of experience covers many topics within the law profession. He knows a lot of the court judges and attorneys at the court house, and knows how to strategically position your case in a way that will give you the best outcome. Hire Matthew Miller if you want someone who will fight for you as you'd expect to be represented. This will be money well spent.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
