Hired West Hunsaker to restate my Trust and he was very personable, tentative to details and explained things in simple everyday language making things easy to understand. I would definitely work with Mr. Hunsaker again and highly recommend him to others.

Very satisfied with Mr. Hunsaker's work. We really needed to get our estate planning/living will in order and he made the process easy and was very thorough. I was impressed with his ability to explain things in a way that my wife and I could easily understand. It's a process that we have avoided for too long and can be a little uncomfortable, but he put us at ease. MHK has the reputation as being the best in Estate Planning and after working with Mr. Hunsaker, we agree with that assessment.

Don't expect any sort of real communication for over a year of your loved ones passing. This attorney has an unreasonable delay in services performed. They never answer the phone and you can leave all the voicemails and emails you want, it will go ignored. I would never want my loved ones to feel the way this attorney has made me and others in the will to feel after going through what we have had to go through with them.

Daniel is working on my family’s trust and is completely unresponsive. He never returns phone calls and apparently is never available. If you would like an attorney that you can not ever reach, them this is your guy. There are so many other attorneys and law firms out there to choose from. I highly recommend finding one that will take the time to return a simple phone call.

From three expert Tax professionals I contacted, Mr. Hales is the attorney who responded the next day giving me detailed law and regulations regarding my question on a tax situation allowing me to make the best decision; then as a community service, he appeared as an Expert on my cable talk show! He is well informed in many topics, and on one of the shows he informed us about Wills & Trust. I think he is a fascinating speaker. Daniel Clark Hales is well versed in his area of law and makes it a priority to stay on top of changing matters in the legal arena. You are very fortunate if you have him as your legal representative.

Sokolove Law was nice when I originally called them and they referred me to another firm called Grabhorn Law out of Kentucky. I dealt with Nancy Grabhorn who was polite and she stated their firm could definitely help me with a long term disability appeal. When I was quoted 40% for any past due benefits and then 40% for any future payments I wanted to interview with other firms. When I contacted her back to see if they negotiate fees she stated they were firm on their fees, which I respected. A couple of days after I decided to use her firm and so I sent her a email using talk to text since I don't like sitting in front of a computer due to migraines. In my email I requested if she could resend the agreement for 40% so they could represent me in my case against Unum. Unfortunately the talk to text evidentially didn't know the word Unum and so the message didn't read as I wanted it to. The email stated this, (actual email) Nancy, When you have the time, please resend the agreement for 40% so I can have you guys represent me in my case again Chino. Thank you. Nancy must of thought I was being disrespectful so in her email she asked me the following (actual email) "Mr. Ware –Was this intended for me? I’m not sure what your reference to Chino means? When I stated to her I used talk to text I guess she thought I was untruthful and her next text stated after further review they couldn't represent me when they sent me an agreement days before stating differently. If anyone saw my original email and read it and added what was intended to be added it makes total sense, "again Chino" makes absolutely no sense. I followed up with Nancy stating I was lost for words because all I was requesting was for the agreement to be resent. Why would I disrespect someone I was asking to represent me. I even sent Michael Grabhorn a separate email explaining the situation and requesting representation with no reply. For someone to respond this way is so unprofessional as well as childish. Makes you wonder how they would really handle your case if they did represent you. I then reached out to Sokolove Law and was transferred to a claims manager to express what occurred and spoke to Alex who was extremely rude who kept cutting when I was trying to explain what occurred. I also noticed in their reviews if it is a negative review they state they have never had contact with this person but I assure you I have all emails from both firms to confirm I have had this contact. Finally what truly amazes me how people treat you nicely trying to obtain your business and then if something doesn't go their way how thy show their true. selves. I would highly suggest never using either of these companies because in my personal opinion they only care about themselves and not you.

I had a disability claim with Cigna for years where my benefits were paid. Then out of the blue they were cut off. My appeal was denied. I hired Grabhorn Law to fight for me. They took my case, filed a lawsuit, and resolved my claim getting my benefits and then some. Thank you!

I hired Eve-Lynn Gisonni and Gisonni Law Firm to fight a notoriously awful disability insurance company that was threatening to cut off my benefits. From the first day I met with her, she left me feeling at ease and she was completely in control of my situation. She was always available to answer all of my questions and it was obvious that she had many, many years of experience in disabiity insurance law and fighting Unum. When I went to leave this review, I noticed that someone left a really mean-spirited review about Eve-Lynn and her firm. None of the criticisms left by that person are what I experienced with Eve-Lynn. It appears that that person must not be well. Let me be specific. I had telephone and email access to Eve-Lynn whenever I needed to address any questions I had or issues that had arisen. I felt that Eve-Lynn's hourly charges for the work she did for my case were very fair and in fact less than what most disability lawyers wanted to charge me when I was looking for a lawyer. She promised to send me monthly billing statements, and I received one every month. Her bill descriptions were really detailed, and because of that, I never had any questions about the bill. Eve-Lynn always explained the issues to me in a way that made sense, and she was really good at keeping me informed of everything that was happening on my case. I would recommend Eve-Lynn and her firm to anyone having trouble with a disability claim. You need only read about her success stories, like I did when I decided to hire her firm, to see that she is a leader in the disability field and has helped a lot of people.

The Gisonni Law Firm, P.C. consists of solo practitioner Eve-Lynn Gisonni, Esq. and her secretary Kari Labadie. Gisonni was overwhelmed by my litigation and was not prepared to take it to trial. She stated to me that my case had taken "years off [her] life." Communication. (1) In order to speak with Gisonni by telephone, I was required to schedule a telephone conference and to identify the topics I wished to discuss. For most of the telephone conferences, I was billed for "preparation" of the telephone conference. (2) Just once or twice I was able to speak with Gisonni by placing a random, unscheduled telephone call. (3) When we met, Gisonni and I would discuss various matters and agree to various things. Subsequently, generally one or two days later, Gisonni would send e-mail contradicting or changing our agreements. Billing. I repeatedly asked for regular monthly statements. I never got them. Gisonni was either unwilling or unable to produce regular monthly statements. Settlement. The decision to settle a lawsuit or proceed to trial rests with the client. Gisonni thinks otherwise. She tried to force me to settle my lawsuit. More than once, I reminded her that the decision to settle or proceed to trial was mine and not hers. She did not agree. Discharge. After fully litigating my case, Gisonni stated to me that if I did not settle the case, she would not try the case. Gisonni had the audacity to state that her litigation retainer agreement did not include a trial! I almost filed a grievance. Gisonni was discharged and I settled the case on my own. Jack Mevorach, Esq.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?

  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
