I was placed into a situation where legal representation was needed. Mr. Kovalcik was always available for any questions and concerns during the years long litigation. He went above and beyond on the personal level and really displayed his talent on the legal aspects of the case. He is a great asset to the firm he represents and anyone retaining him as their counsel has a hard working and compassionate attorney who will work diligently on their behalf.

Dominic handled a civil rights matter that involved the death of a family member at a prison that resulted in a significant recovery for the estate. My family was very happy with the work done by Mr. Guerrini, along with his staff Angela and Kat, and we believe the work he does on behalf of underserved populations, like the poor and incarcerated, is unparalleled!

We required work on a complex fact pattern, with difficult deadlines and a novel issue of law arising under Delaware corporate law. As principal outside counsel to the client, we worked with David and his partner to craft a precise strategy and the pleadings to be filed. David's work was creative. He was dedicated and simply a solid litigator who earned our highest respect.

My name is Andrew B., while I was growing up all I ever did was be harassed and violated physically by the officers of the NYPD. I recall one day which is documented in my criminal history. I went and told my mother that I was assaulted by the police and she was not really educated due to health problems, so she states to me you shouldn’t have your behind in them streets. From that point on I figured that the NYPD can do whatever they want to do. I didn’t know where to go to for help because they say Moms' know best, so if she doesn’t know who am I suppose to go to for help. That was 1991. I was arrested in 2003 and I was accused of a crime of possession which nothing was recovered. I was choked and maced by NYPD’s finest during my arrest. I spoke to my attorney that I had for the case about what happened to me and that’s when I was introduced to these great attorneys for civil rights violation cases named Andrew Stoll and Leo Glickman. Once I spoke to them I felt a sense of comfort because these were people that let you know that all the things that are done to you aren’t always right and if you feel that your rights are violated you should speak about it. It’s now 2009 and I am finally awake from being asleep all these years. If I would have never been introduced to these attorneys that are great at what they stand for, I would still think it was alright for me to be stopped and frisked and not feel violated as a man. Leo and Andrew have gave me strength to overcome the fear of being afraid to speak up, because the people that are violating your rights will make you feel like they are not violating your rights as if they are just doing their job or just because they are in a position of power they make you feel hopeless. Andrew and Leo will make you feel the sense of comfortableness; you won’t feel helpless anymore because they are here to help you. They’re only just a call away. Has anyone violated your civil rights? Stoll, Glickman & Bellina are the attorneys for the job. Don’t wait until it’s too late to speak out! Get HELP!

Chris is an amazing quick-study, thoroughly absorbing new material faster than anyone I've ever met, and even while identifying the key issues. He quickly composes a strategy and writes it in concise, persuasive language that preempts the opponent's response before they start, disarming them and winning the day. Chris is, quite simply, brilliant.

For anyone considering litigation to resolve an issue you’re having with a larger entity, do consider consulting Atty. Megan Lemire at Lemire & Hirano for some frank and practical advice. Her firm handled our civil case last year in Portland, and the matter was favorably resolved in roughly six months. The closure of the matter now allows my family to move on to bigger and better things. But I have to mention that the process was nearly “painless,” thanks to our attorney’s familiarity with the system. Because of her prompt communications and follow up with us, we always felt in control. The defendants came a long way from pretending that we didn't exist and hoping that we'd just go away to apologizing and writing a couple of checks for our troubles. Despite the mess that brought us toward the halls of justice, we emerged victorious, elevated and restored after our plan of remedy was devised and executed by the talented and wonderful Megan Lemire.

John gave me direct honest advice which caused me to not need his services, thus saving money. His advice was sound and calming in the face of being falsely accused and in momentary hot water with FBI, TBI and Local authorities. I took John's and Thomas Jefferson's advice to "If angry, count 10, if very angry 100" and I've counted for a year and a half, enjoying life and not letting those with lesser intellects and values upset my pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If things get bad, God, Thomas Jefferson and John Drummond are a winning combination.

I've never seen a lawyer fight for a client like Mr. Dauman did for me. I had two cases where the cops executed a search warrant at my boys house. They charged me with possession and tried to claim that I lived in one of the rooms in the apartment. I didn't live there and the drugs were found in a box in that room. The Da kept dragging the case out but Mr. Dauman kept on fighting. When the DA offered a violation on each, I was tempted to take it just so I didn't have to go back to court. But thankfully Chad asked me this question. Would you really be able to walk away happy knowing that the cops are lying? No I wouldn't have been. So we took it to trial. One case dismissed, other one we just beat. He's more than just a lawyer to me though. I view him like a brother. He was there on every single court date. He never had someone else represent me like many public defenders. He took me out to lunch and asked about my family. We both were in the fight together and I put my trust completely in his hands. And I'm happy I did. He believed me from the very first time I met him. Anyone would be lucky to have him as their lawyer.

My husband and I contacted Nicole Uribe after we married to complete an adoption case. It was simple enough to get a consultation, comparable price, and she explained each step in the case. Any additional fee that came up was explained. Nicole is personable and she made sure we knew where we were in our case with time to plan ahead to attend court. Today we finalized our adoption and we could not be happier with whom we chose to champion our case. Thanks Nicole Uribe.

I am writing to express my gratitude, kindness, willingness and support that was given to me when you assisted me during my time of need regarding my mother's death. You were always on top of the situation in making sure that the funeral home did what was necessary in order for me to get copies of my mother’s death certificate in a timely matter. Your perspective and encouragement meant a great deal to me. Also, when I was involved in a car accident I admire your organizational abilities in handling my case. I see Mr. Seilback as a great asset and an integral part of your organization and a major reason why I would recommend family and friends to your firm. If I need future services in the future I will not hesitate to contact your firm.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
