So far so good! I owe a big thank you to Brian here. My manager to make a long story short terminated my brother and suspended me for calling out some serious safety concerns in our work environment and said the reasons for the discipline were unrelated. And its been quite a challenge to find anyone that will at least hear my brother and I out, until I came across Brian. I hired Mr. Pappas for my wages and tips case against my former employer. I worked for the company for 10+ yrs. I had no idea that I was being paid incorrectly and unfairly until a coworker read a similar case in an article. I researched and called Mr. Pappas for legal advice. He was friendly, polite, and heard my case start to finish. He told me indeed I was being underpaid and that I'm owed all lost wages+tips going back up to 6 years (NY state law). At the end I was able to recover my wages, tips, plus another $10,000 in fines. I had reached out to Jean to discuss/review a separation agreement that I received from my employer. She was very accessible - I was able to speak with her directly on my first outreach (vs. many other firms who required a detailed questionnaire or discussion with a paralegal). Based upon that first conversation, it was clear that she had good intentions (it wasn't all about how much she would make from the settlement) - her desire was to help me achieve an appropriate outcome. When a person is wrongly terminated it takes away more than your job. You loose the essence of who you are, your confidence, your trust in people, how you interact with the outside world. You feel ashamed. But, Jean was able to change all that for me and my termination turned out to be a blessing. Jean gave me hope from the very first conversation. She and Katherine won my case and the money was great but what they really did was continually make me know that the termination wasn’t my fault. They believed in me. With this new employer, I became the top salesman in a very short period of time. My customer service skills are stellar. I had so many 5 star yelp reviews I lost count. This was in spite of the difficulties I endured during my tenure working for a business owner who, initially, was kind. Then saidowner quickly turned into the type of employer you have nightmares about. To make a long story short I was let go after a few months. I was shocked,
Saddened, stressed. What do i do now, I have bills, rent . It was just a terrible time. The reason I was given for my termination made absolutely no sense. We had more business than we could handle. Needless to say, I was lost. I was so upset about the circumstances. Thinking, why let me go when I was the Top salesman? Then I saw an ad for my replacement, immediately the next day that totally contradicted what I was told was the reason for my termination. At that point I felt I need to obtain legal advice. I found myself in desperate need of a lawyer after I was sexually assaulted by a coworker/long time friend of mine. Every avenue I had gone through to hold him accountable led nowhere. I went to our HR department and they did nothing. I went to law enforcement, the DA denied my case. I went to file a restraining order against him so at least he would be removed from the workplace and he lawyered up immediately. I walked into our first hearing by myself and his big shot defense attorney absolutely wiped the floor with me. My restraining order was denied. So I searched and searched for my own legal counsel when I discovered Russell. He was the first person with any kind of power who actually treated me like a human being. The first person who didnt know me from Adam to show any empathy. In all reality, my case wasnt exactly in Russells wheelhouse yet because of my desperate need for help and many roadblocks I encountered, he offered to represent me anyway. In our situation Katie assisted with a very complex employment discrimination matter with a lot of moving parts. I can't thank Daniel Snyder and his team enough for helping me through the most traumatizing experience in my career. Living with a disability is already difficult itself, but then to have an employer that discriminates against you is devastating. I worked for a public agency that denied my ADA accommodations and engaged in unfair labor practices. I was enrolled and through 2 years of my graduate program for a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree while in the final term, registered to graduate and with a 3.24 GPA. Seth was communicative and clear, he always made me feel comfortable with the progression of my case and "broke it down" so I didn't feel like any lawyer-ese was too dense. The most difficult part was waiting for dates to come due to COVID delays, but Seth and his team made it pretty painless. The deposition was much easier than I prepared myself for it to be (due in part to Seth's pre-depo explanation and info sharing).
The final result was a great one, and I was very glad to have everything behind me. Marisa is amazing!
She is extremely intelligent and knows the law very very well. Besides being very intelligent, Marisa is very "human" and have compassion and understand the emotional distress and damage I went through with my unlawful termination case. She walked me through everything and didn't act like a cold attorney that only wanted money. She really cared about what happened and really made the stressful process much more bearable. Make no mistake, don't take her kindheartedness for weakness. Marisa was super TOUGH when it came to defending me and attacking the other side. I am so grateful that she was on my side of the table. I hired an employment law firm and filed a lawsuit against a former employer for years of unpaid overtime. Marisa was the associate but became my primary contact. Josh was referred to me by another attorney.
Essentially my case revolved around a mid-2020 cancel culture event with my employer. This resulted in my wrongful termination along with Josh unpacking a number of other claims as we sifted through my almost four years of employment.
My understanding was that the employer, over the years, had mistreated me. Josh knew the law and precedents that tied to the mistreatment. The list of claims was long.
At its core, my case was about an employer that irrationally reacted to a troll site post on social media tied to a post from me. While the company had invited everyone to share ideas, because it declared it was open to receiving ideas, I posted a further sharing of conservative ideas. This did not suit the political views of the employer. Not only was I wrongfully terminated, but the employer also defamed me in the process.
After almost a year of pre-trial litigation, Josh was able to secure a very good outcome that resulted in an excellent economic settlement and resolution of non-monetary issues. Josh cared about my non-monetary issues and not just the financial settlement. That meant a lot to me
