We contacted Washington Law Offices to handle an issue of inhabitability due to a pest infestation issue. Attorney Washington was responsive, compassionate and keenly aware of our legal rights in this situation under Illinois law. After assessing the situation, she drafted a demand letter within days and positioned us to successfully move out without any legal repercussion or retaliation from the property management company. I would highly recommend her services as she is extremely well suited to represent in the realm of tenant/property management disputes.

Ian helped us with a complicated housing court case. The house was ready to be demolished based on a judge's court order but he was able to stay the order and help us ultimately clear all violations and get the order removed so that the house was never demolished. Ian is very knowledgeable with the real estate court case law and would recommend him to anyone looking for an expert with these type of tricky situations.

I highly NOT recommend Mrs. Kay-Ann Waite. I hired her in April and at the beginning she told me it wasn’t going to take too long and it seemed she was going to work hard for me. Then, I had to constantly ask for updates since she didn’t provided any without me asking. It is June now and since 2 weeks ago, I have been calling to her office and sending emails and text messages asking for updates but it seems pointless. If she is not planning to get the job done, I would like to get a refund and hire another lawyer.

I'm almost two years into a very complicated divorce and Stange Law came into play about a month ago. The team had made a huge impact. Dakota is the lead for my case and he is outstanding. He has tremendous knowledge, a heart in the right place, and he fights hard for what is right and true. We are not done yet but I know he is doing all he can to protect the life of an innocent 11 year old. Thank you Dakota.

Called this jerk for a consultation on property issues. Tried to give him the basic background and issues I was facing and he kept interrupting and telling me how he does this and that, without hearing me out or accurately understanding what I was asking. Then when I tried to tell him what my real issues were, he gets pissed and tells me off. Who argues with people trying to give them business? Maybe lighten up on the caffeine.

About 3 years ago, I had “a one hour” consultation appt with Larry regarding a severance agreement I as very unhappy about in regards to my employer. Larry ended up spending 5 hours with me , giving me the hard facts and ended up helping me get a better severance and piece of mind. Fast forward to now and I had 5 days notice to do a deposition for a previous employee who was suing that same old employer. I didn’t want to break my contract I had signed, and had multiple other questions, and couldn’t get a hold of Larry. Come to find out, Larry was out of state and out of service but still managed to get my emails and calls in time and called me back twice and talked me through my concerns right before my deposition. I didn’t hire him nor was he being paid for this, he just helped me once again and quickly eased my fears so I was prepared. Thank you Larry- your legitimately one of the best lawyers out there, hands down!!!

Hired Marlo Greer to represent my family and myself after experiencing a car accident resulting in months of rehabilitation and physical therapy. Poor communication and very hard to get ahold of had multiple Paralegals that ussually never knew what was going on which made thing frustrating and left in the unknown. Glad to have everything completed as this was our first time needing legal representation as I will use this bad experience as a learning experience unfortunately. Won't get to deep in it though as she is somewhat nice just seems to have her hands full with "more important cases" Unfortunate experience for sure!

I had high hopes for Ms. Greer based upon her other reviews. I signed up with Ms. Greer in January of 2023, and repeatedly requested that she send out the Demand letters that would start the negotiations of my claims because I didn’t want to treat for the accidents anymore and wanted all of this behind me. Her office was provided with lists of the medical providers I saw and for which accident twice in writing 8-9 months ago and again over the phone in August. A suit was filed on my first case to “preserve the statute of limitations” while some issues were being worked out. The “excess carrier” denied any exposure by saying that the Defendant named in the suit is an excluded driver and Ms. Greer was unable to ascertain as to whether or not the exclusion indeed applies. At certain times during Ms. Greer’s representation of my cases questions that I would ask in the messaging section of the software she uses would not be replied to for days to weeks which caused more lost time while I am already racing a clock. Now that I have one case in litigation with deadlines to meet and the Statute of Limitations for another case she was representing me for is just over nine months away, she has terminated our working relationship. At first she assumed that I did not trust her and instead of asking me outright whether I trusted her or not, she told me to let her office know when I found other counsel and went so far as to recommend another firm. After telling me to find other counsel and suggesting another firm she suggested that we keep a meeting that was scheduled to which I replied that I saw no need for a meeting. It was not made clear that she felt we had a misunderstanding and that she wanted to continue to represent me. The aforementioned was then back peddled on and she claimed that I had told her my previous counsel did not intend to assert a lien. When asked during a meeting with her if my former counsel intended to place a lien on my case, I actually said that I was unaware as to whether or not he would assert a lien and that he had been paid out of the portion of my case that he did actually settle. Ms. Greer and my former counsel who I once had a working relationship with have communicated in the past because Ms. Greer told me that my former counselor felt awful about the breakdown of our relationship. Instead of asking him if he intended to assert a lien on the part of my case that she was working on while she was communicating with him, she is now using his intent, in part, to withdraw from my cases at a very compromising time for me. Once I questioned my old counsel, it turned out that Marlo assumed he was asserting a lien. She has also stated that I tried to be an acting paralegal in my case. That’s untrue. What I did was to start pushing to get all of this behind me because I now have a limited disability that has been caused by my accident related injuries. This has all been mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting to the point that it is highly unlikely that I will pursue the cases at all anymore. Marlo made many assumptions based upon her “suspicions” and added requirements not outlined in her Agreement nine months into our relationship. Ms. Greer has said that I am from FL and understand FL laws, but that we are in CO. After spending 6 years drafting Demand letters in CO on a contract basis it seems that the accident case formula of 1: accident happens unfortunately 2: attorney is contracted 3: injured person treats 4: medical records and bills are gathered 5: demand letter is drafted 6: demand letter is sent to the insurance adjuster 7: negotiations begin 8: settlement is reached is the same. That is how the cookie usually crumbles. The key difference I see in Florida and Colorado cases is the speed at which firms operate in each State respectively. I did not find her to be empathic or understanding whatsoever. Marlo is very poor at communicating. She assumes instead of asking. I’m

I had a severe car accident in 2014. I did not want to get an attorney, but after about 3 years of doctors trying to convince me to speak to an attorney, a neurologist changed my mind. He told me that an attorney would be able to help me get medical care that most people would not think about. My chiropractor told me about Marlo. I am so thankful for their recommendation. Marlo helped me in many ways that I can’t list them all. She dealt with insurance and more importantly, the opposing council. Marlo helped me to understand what was important and what was not. Most importantly, Marlo helped me to get medical assessments and care that I needed. I used the medical records in my Army Medical Board packet. I received 70% Army and 100% VA disability ratings. Marlo made certain that I received enough in my settlement that I can retire early and spend quality time with my family. Thank you, Marlo, for everything.

I am grateful to have discovered Attorney Julie Gafkay to represent my Civil Rights Case. I learned of Attorney Gafkay while researching other Black healthcare professionals who had experienced what I call, “patient initiated - employer sponsored race bias.” The most prominent case that Julie has represented to date is the Battle vs. Hurley case in which she represented Tonya Battle, a Black nurse whose employer honored a man's request that African-American nurses not be allowed to care for his newborn. The case gained national attention. I googled Attorney Gafkay’s name and read the reviews on her website and contacted her. Soon after I contacted her office I received a phone call from Julie and immediately, I knew she was on my team. Julie had successfully represented several cases that were specific to Black health care workers experiencing patient initiated workplace discrimination. Despite the fact that Julie was reperesenting me across the country I could always trust that Julie had done the work of researching every professional we would encounter in my community including the Judge, local counsel and the arbitrator. I was always informed and knew what to expect next in my proceedings. There was not a moment in which she represented my case that I did not feel prepared. I felt comfortable asking questions. Things all came together when Julie arrived for my mediation proceedings wearing a red jacket. She had put together an effective team which included local counsel to represent me. I knew they had my best interest at heart and they calmed my nerves. Julie was polished and knowledgeable and had researched cases similar to mine and their outcomes. She validated my experience. The end result of my experience is that I felt empowered and vindicated. I absolutely recommend Julie Gafkay to represent your case against patient initiated -employer sponsored race bias. Taking a stand against racism is not easy and when you do so make sure that you have an experienced, knowledgeable and passionate attorney to represent you.

Julie took my case because she felt it was the right thing to do to give me voice. She believed I was treated unjustly, and she is a lawyer who is in the field because she is passionate about justice. Other lawyers told me I didn't have a case, couldn't win, or flat out ignored me. Julie called me right back, met with me, and took my case. Once I had her to represent me, I never worried. I knew without a doubt that I was in compassionate and competent care. She always responded to me immediately, and contacted me if anything was needed of me. We worked together for a year -- and won. I cannot recommend Julie enough. Having her represent me was one of the greatest honors of my life.

With a house full of drivers, I've had experiences with other attorneys who have fought traffic tickets for me. Most simply negotiate the points and fines with the district attorney. Anthony Giustino went the extra mile. He filed a motion that challenged the ticket's validity. He won. My ticket was dismissed. No fine. No points. I hired Mr Sacks back in 2016 to represent me in a lawsuit against my former employer. If I could go back in time and do it all over again would I hire Mr Sacks? Absolutely not. The first time I spoke with Mr Sacks over the phone I obviously did not answer his question properly. About 2 minutes into the conversation when he asked me a question and I answered it he immediately started yelling at me. He told me that a judge and jury would never accept my answer. This struck me as very odd. I had been talking with Mr Sacks for the very first time for a total of maybe 2 minutes and already he was yelling at me as if I were supposed to know exactly what to say, what to do and how to act ? Wow. I will not tell you what you want to hear about Mr Sacks. I will tell you what you NEED to hear about Mr Sacks. I firmly believe that Mr Sacks had determined the outcome of my case long before the final day of mediation. Many of my questions went unanswered and Mr Sacks would simply say to me "trust me". BIG MISTAKE on my part when I did. The final day of mediation is when I realized that I was intentionally left in the dark by Mr Sacks as far as certain specific details of my case were concerned. The mediator was shocked at certain things that did or did not occur during the entire process and duration of my case. So was I. I feel as if the primary objective of Mr Sacks is to keep his client in the dark and to reveal as little information about important details of the case as possible. This will keep his client uninformed to a certain extent and will also allow Mr Sacks to have full control of the outcome of the case. Not to mention, this will also allow him to do so with little or no resistance from his client at all. If Mr Sacks sends his client to a gun fight armed with a butter knife then usually his client will be backed into a corner and forced to submit with little or no resistance at all. I also feel as if this was not Mr Sacks' first rodeo. The day before mediation Mr Sacks refused to answer specific and very important questions of mine as far as how mediation would actually take place and totally blew me off. Mr Sacks told me that " he had many other clients to deal with that day and would just see me in the morning at mediation." Unbelievable !! It seemed as if both Mr Sacks and opposing counsel were doing nothing more than trying to put on a show for everyone the entire time. Many times during depositions Mr Sacks would try to appear to be angry and would get loud and raise his voice at the opposing attorney that represented my former employer. It also seemed as if opposing counsel would "object to form" or object to many other irrelevant aspects of a question simply to disrupt the flow of the questioning that took place during depositions. As far as I was concerned it was nothing more than "posturing on steroids" that was mixed with nonstop blathering by opposing counsel with the objections that were being made every 20 seconds. Sometimes I felt as if I were watching a low budget reality tv show. It was ridiculous at times as far I was concerned and also a very weak attempt to mislead clients that were involved in the case as well as the mediator. The mediator also seemed to be aggravated with certain aspects of the case along with pertinent details that were conveniently left out or not addressed at all. I learned much more about my case from the mediator during the few unnecessary hours spent during mediation than I did the entire time I spent with Mr Sacks on my case. As I mentioned before, I feel as if the final outcome of my case had been decided behind closed doors and long before mediation even took place. During mediation is when I realized what might have actually taken place the entire time and also determined the final outcome of my case, or left me with an ultimatum as far as I was concerned. Due diligence is golden. Food for thought. John from Jacksonville, Fl

I couldn't of asked for a better attorney than Shahria to represent me for the closing of my house. She was so patient, and always kept my best interests at hand when dealing with the constant buyer delays that occurred during the process. Professional and answered my questions promptly and kept me in the loop every step of the way. She was reasonably priced and I will definitely seek her to represent me with future endeavors. Thank you so much Shahria!

Jamie was amazing. During the time I worked with her she explained each step in the case and made sure I understood everything. She was great at responding to me and presented the pros and cons for my lawsuit and this allowed me to make an educated and wise decisions. She was extremely knowledgable about the laws and processes throughout my case. She was able to negotiate a settlement I was comfortable with and I think she did a terrific job in representing me. I highly recommend her!

Jamie is an incredibly practical, thoughtful, non-nonsense lawyer. She is a great counselor and strategic thinker. And is unflappable. Given her line of business (employment law), being unflappable is really important! I have referred her to 3 other people already, she is an amazing asset.

Jamie was recommended to me by a trusted peer to assist me in a difficult employment situation. From consultation, through the engagement to post-resolution, Jamie was prompt, professional, efficient and most critically, patient, candid and reassuring to me and handled opposing counsel with incredible courtesy. When we need lawyers, we are often in times of crisis and having counsel that takes the time to calmly explain things, provide options, and understand you and your situation in such detail is what differentiates lawyers who can get the job done from those who you come to realize were essential to helping you survive and even thrive in times of transition, change and crisis. Jamie is the dependable, smart and experienced person you want to have on your side if you ever need a lawyer. She will give you options and get the best result that can be gotten for you in your circumstances based on your directions. To work with Jamie was to have a wonderful encounter that came out of an otherwise awful experience.

I've never had to contact an attorney before so I was kind of nervous but Kashif Haque made me feel very comfortable and that he truly cared about me and my case. I mainly had contact with Ethan who was extremely helpful and put my mind at ease. The whole staff at Aegis Law Firm are excellent and work hard for you. I highly recommend Aegis Law Firm to anyone who needs an outstanding employment labor attorney. I couldn't have asked for better attorney's. If I should ever need help again I would definitely come back to Kashif Haque. They kept me informed and answered any question I may have had. I'd like to say thank you for all your excellent help and work.

I found attorney Kashif Haque through online research. I was nervous about hiring a lawyer. I scheduled an appointment with him to see if he can help me out with my wrongful termination case. He walked me through the litigation process. Although the case took a long time to make it to court (state budget problems are causing delays), my former employer did not want to face attorney Kashif Haque in court and offered me a settlement offer I couldn't refuse. Had I known it would have been this easy, I would have called him sooner!

I was searching for a lawyer about 5 years ago and spoke to many different lawyers but as soon as I met Kashif, I knew he was the right lawyer for my case. Kashif is very attentive and actually listens and understands. Communication was never a problem. Any questions I had whether it be via phone or email, I received a response. Kashif helped me win my case and I couldn't have been blessed with a superb and capable lawyer other than Kashif. Fast forward to 5 years later, I needed Kashif to represent me and once again I received the exceptional service that I experienced before from everyone at Aegis Law Firm. I am happy and confidant to know that I have a capable and most importantly an honest lawyer like Kashif and staff.

I visited MA this past week on an employment matter. [Fees were clearly noted prior to the consult] His questions were focused and correctly directed me to issues of which I was unaware, but now am. He was warm, helpful, professional, courteous and direct. I couldn't have asked for anything more. While my meeting was a consult, I expect to retain him as my issue unfolds.

I reached out to Maurice with an international employment issue where my company wasn't honoring their verbal contracts with me or providing me with legality in the country I was working in. Maurice truly Helped guide me through the process to get the best possible outcome and to understand the law as well as my ability within the legal framework. I wasn't able to get 100% of my rights but I was able to get a sizeable win with his coaching.

Scheduling an appt. was very easy. Both Roxanne and Cristal we are very professional especially when I need to reschedule the appointment to another day and time. I needed to consult mr. Navarrete on insurance regarding my resignation, the type of references that I should expect my former employer is allowed to provide. He also helped clarify the documents that I received from my previous employer. He was also very patient in listening to all the concerns that I had leading up to my resignation. He addressed all my concerns and questions and help me put my mind at ease in finding my next role without any issues. I would highly recommend him to a professional who needs clarification and assistance in regards to employment law.

Attorney Arthur Navarette and his staff are true professionals who get the job done - the right way! I am a Silicon Valley executive who first consulted two other attorneys about a severance agreement but felt like they really were just going through the motions. In my gut I felt I was wronged by my former employer, so I decided to get a third opinion. This time I contacted The Navarette Law Firm. When I called their office, Mr. Navarette's assistant Roxanne was very professional and accommodating in setting an after hours appointment that fit my busy schedule, and more important one that was before my deadline to respond. When I arrived for my appointment with Mr. Navarette, his other assistant Cristal was also very professional, really nice and got me into my consultation appointment right away. In the consultation, Mr. Navarette was very thorough and asked several very pointed questions that neither of the two previous attorneys had even asked me. He pointed out to me that my employer technically had broken the law and explained exactly why, and in non-legalese. He was very up front with me and didn't sugar coat anything about the weaknesses in my case. He then asked me a question that neither of the two other attorneys even bothered to ask: he asked me "what is your goal?" I told him my goal was to get more money in severance pay, have a clean record, and move on with my career. I ended up hiring Mr. Navarette to re-negotiate my severance package. I was being offered 12 weeks of severance pay and he got me 52 (one year). He also ensured that future employers would know nothing about my termination, by making the severance agreement mutually confidential. Mr. Navarette kept me informed every step of the way and provided me with excellent legal advice and excellent legal services. I am thrilled with the result that Mr. Navarette achieved for me and highly recommend him to anyone looking for an attorney who really knows how to get the job done right!

Said he would take my case, then was unresponsive for a week, scheduled a meeting, and then said the day before the meeting that he couldn't take my case. Never called me at any point to discuss the potential case. Was a bad situation because things are often time-sensitive and he didn't respect that (up front) and made me waste several days chasing him.

Contacted him through ad on google and was told to provide my last three pay stubs for "employment verification" followed up after almost a week without response only to be told "Mr. Marder will not be assisting you please seek counsel elsewhere" No explanation for why. A simple response would've suffice, Not sure If there was an assumption of me being able to pay because of the information I provided him with my pay stubs or whether my case had any merit. Just disappointed in the lost time reaching out to a firm that can't respond adequately.

Arlo, Andrew, & Beth are great! They take the time to listen to you about what’s important to you in passing money to your heirs. They’re very knowledgeable on estate planning laws. They even know the minute differences in law between different counties in IL and what to avoid. They have a streamlined process in place which makes putting your essential estate documents in place easy. And they charge a fair and reasonable price.

John came highly recommended by a family member and fellow attorney. Not only did he meet my expectations, he exceeded them from start to finish. It was clear from our first meeting that John is an expert in his field. My case was complex with many components. John thoroughly addressed and explained each component at a level that I could understand. He was friendly, patient, and well-spoken. I was most impressed with John's consistent and timely communication. He responded quickly to any questions that I had and kept me informed of all events as they occurred. I felt comfortable reaching out to John if I had any question and was always pleased with the timeliness and outcomes of our communications. Overall John helped me reach a favorable outcome and I was very satisfied with his services. He came highly recommended to me by a person I trust and after working with him I would be happy to recommend his services if given the chance. I have the utmost respect for John as a person and an abundance of confidence in his ability as an attorney.

My husband had a work discrimination case he consulted with John Beasley's law office about. It did not get picked up by John, but not only that, there was not a good reason provided. (note: we had no problem getting another excellent lawyer to take it on, go figure). I also wanted to add that John's paralegal was not very professional and borderline plain unfriendly. I would definitely not consult with this lawyer's office again.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
