Daniel is a younger estate planning attorney but has been practicing for over 8 years, so he has seen it all. I am a Financial Advisor that focuses on comprehensive financial planning and through the planning process I often identify many clients who have not obtain a proper estate plan. Living in California, it is very important that EVERY family obtains an estate plan to avoid probate at the very least and Daniel is my go to for all my clients. I have personally seen his work and feel very comfortable with the quality produced. He is very knowledgeable and responsive and above all else, has great communication with his clients as he breaks things down into "normal people" speak so that all the parties involved can stay on top of the process and understand what is going on.

Jamay was my attorney in a probate matter involving my a dispute about my cousin's will. We won at trial and she also won a motion for attorney's fees against the other party. She is very professional, knowledgeable about her area of practice, and very responsive. I would highly recommend Jamay.

I had a pretty messy situation with a DUI/DWI that I hadn't taken care of and had allowed to languish for about 10 years. To further complicate things, I had moved out of the state that the infraction had originally happened in, so this was going to be a difficult affair. I shopped around for representation in the area and one thing that really stuck out about Vincent: whereas everyone else was basically saying it was a slamdunk and that they could get all charges dismissed within 30 days, guaranteed; Vincent was honest with me in saying that this was a complicated case and that he couldn't guarantee such a thing. By no means did he admonish me, but he did make clear how difficult my case could be because of the time elapsed and my move from the state. After this conversation, I knew I had my attorney. Vincent clearly had a level of integrity that is a cut above everyone else's. Vincent fought hard during my case. I was facing extensive fines and possibly jailtime. Fortunately, thanks to his tenacity, Vincent was able to get my case dismissed and I was able to walk away with a totally clean record. I can't thank him enough for his integrity, hard-work, and grit. I highly recommend placing Mr. Russo on your shortlist of possible representation, you won't regret it.

My grandfather passed away a couple of years ago. Half of my family ended up with the entire trust, leaving me and two other members with nothing. We contacted other lawyers initially that wouldn't take our case, but Mr. Santiago decided to take us on. After a couple of years of the other parties refusing to even acknowledge us, eventually Mr. Santiago was able to secure us a sizeable settlement. We're incredibly fortunate to have found him, and we're all now getting our fair share of the estate. If you're having any issues with a trust, amd need an attorney, do your self a favor and hire Mr. Santiago.

Mr Moravec knows his stuff, especially helpful for planning - planning for marriage, for divorce, & for death. Who knew that the proceeds of an life insurance policy should be in a trust? I had no idea that certain wills (if done by hand with handwriting but also with typed words) could be invalid in California. I now know the difference betw a power of attorney and a medical power of atty. I can now sleep more soundly. Thank you Mr. Moravec. Money well spent for such attention to detail and such personal attention.

My husband and I are in our lated 60s. It was important to us to put an estate plan in place and avoid probate. Jim Young was highly recommended by our financial advisor. Our initial consultation with Jim was very informative and we felt comfortable hiring him as our estate planning lawyer. We met Jim several times, had many discussions, and Jim presented us with several options to met our specific needs. Because this was a second marriage for my husband and I and we each had children and grandchildren from a previous marriage, our circumstances presented a more complex plan. Jim navigated us through this conversation and process with patience and thoughtfulness.

Mr. Reynolds provided a comprehensive estate plan for me which included will and trusts, tax advice and charitable planning. In addition to being an expert in trust and estate law and taxation, he is a creative thinker and can provide an overall business plan for multiple generations of a family. I found him to be a consummate professional and easy to work with. He also offers expertise in asset protection, both domestic and offshore, which I may consider in the future. I would not hesitate to highly recommend him to anyone seeking legal counsel in estate planning.

Everything is above the board! I had 3 previous attorney's all of which had secret phone calls without my consent. None wanted to document anything and I had to fight with them to document by e-mail. Previously everything was done by telephone...no documentation. Mary is honest, hard working and got results simply by sending out her substitution of attorney. Mary documented everything, sent out registered letters, PDF documents and made calls to confirm the documents were received. Professional and by the book.

I was dealing with a very difficult employment situation. Not only was she able to keep me from making several very detrimental mistakes that would have given the company the upper hand in negotiations, she was tough and ultimately was able to get much better results than if I tried to negotiate on my own. She is tough, yet with me she was compassionate and understood the emotional rollercoaster that I was on. I will have her in my corner again in a heartbeat.

Five words describe Jonathan: caring, competent, personal, tireless, unrelenting. Last February, I hired J.P. to get my inheritance from a sluggish passive-aggressive trustee. My former attorney, to whom I had paid nearly $20,000, did little during the year. But when J.P. took the case, the tables quickly turned in my favor. He really kept the trustee and her attorney in line. What's more, J.P. obtained more money for me than anticipated—and months ahead of schedule. I recommend Jonathan Park wholeheartedly.

Michael is quite responsive as an attorney and is a fervent advocate which are necessary attributes for an attorney. I believe he has close to 30 years of legal experience and willingly gives fee reductions. He is a sensitive person which I believe is an asset as an attorney, in any profession or generally in life. He seems to care beyond simply obtaining attorney fees. I have been his client for over one year.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
