Mrs Kienlen was appointed as my public defender. I called her and left a voicemail months prior to my trial date. She never returned my call. Finally, the day before my trial I called twice and left voicemails stating the urgency of my call. Once again, no call back. To my surprise, she did actually show up in court and came at me with a ridiculous plea deal that she had worked out with the prosecutor. There is absolutely zero excuse for her negligence in handling my case. Do yourself a favor: If she gets appointed as your public defender, demand a different attorney!! She will not handle your case with any kind of care or compassion. If I was paying my money, there is zero chance that I would retain her services.

My husband and I used Robert Klock from 2008 until November 2014 I would NOT recommend anyone use him. He very rarely answers his phone and never returns phone calls he did not take my husbands case seriously he filed wrong paper work and he filed it late when i asked to get a copy of my husbands file to have a second opinion he said his printer was out of ink! so my husbands case was closed over a misedaminor charge at which time he had his permanent residence still... while being in immagration custody he never contacted my husband after he promised to do... so my husband wanted to appeal the case with a new lawyer but it was to later Robert Klock filed a paper stating my husband wanted to be removed so I am stuck here with 4 children my husband was our only source of income I just dropped out of my classes at UofA because at this point im about to lose everything... he also informed me that if I did not have the recite from my husbands 8000 bond in 2008 he will NOT give back my bond money oh and we did have another lawyer look over his case and he said he should have never been deported the only problem was the lawyers fault and said not to worry he will be giving back the bond money if he wants to or not!!!

I've been working with this atorney for almost two years now, he has not kept us in the dark abouting anything. And any paperwork involving something that must be done on his part has also been sent to me to keep me infored. The only bad thing I would say is he doesn't have a secatary therefore it is very hard to reach him via phone. So you must come into the office to get your questions answered. I would recommend you become very involved in your case and ask tons of question to better understand the process.

In my opinion she was very rude and condescending at times. She was the ad litem in my change of custody case. I got the impression from the beginning that she had made a determination that I should not get custody based purely on past events. I wasn't trying to get custody based on the past but because of changes in my daughters live presently. She tried to act like my daughters mother and I feel she at no point had their best interest in mind. She was very indecisive and treated my case like only what she thought mattered not the proven facts. I wouldn't recommend her unless you want someone working on your case that will simply do what she wants and not what the evidence points to.

I consulted Mrs. Warren concerning custody of my children. During the consult she went back and forth as to whether she thought I could get custody of my children or not. During the end of the consult she handed me her agreement to go home and look over and sign. When I had the time to look it over, I saw that she had put in someone else's name other than my own. Later I received a call from Mrs. Warren asking me to call her in the tone a mother would use for her children. If you like dealing with that, she's the one you'd want to represent you. Good luck.

It has taken me over 2 decades to recover from the damage she caused. I hired her to represent me, but she was not my advocate. She dragged her feet on everything and was easily rebutted in court by opposing counsel because she failed to prepare and didn't have her facts straight. She had papers for me to sign, but as I was reading over them, I noticed several glaring errors. She told me to go ahead and sign the papers and she would fix the errors. Foolishly I signed. It was one of the biggest mistakes that I have ever made in my life. I didn't hear from her for a few weeks and she didn't respond to messages that I left on the phone. The only communication I got from her were bills. I consulted a different attorney who told me that I had to release Ms. Hicks-McDonald first before the new attorney could represent me. When I left a message that I wanted to start using a different attorney and that I was releasing her, she called and told me that my case was final. It had been filed with a judge. When I got a copy of the documents that she had filed, I saw that she never corrected any of the errors and she didn't even have my name correct. The name wasn't even close to mine. I don't know who the person was whose name was on my documents, but I am guessing it was another one of her clients and she had mixed up the papers. All Ginger Hicks-McDonald cares about is padding her bill, which she can do quiet easily. I would have been better off representing myself. The outcome may have been the same, but at least I wouldn't have been out all the money I paid her for nothing.

Hired Ginger for a case and of course our first encounter she sold herself. I had never been in a position before to use an attorney so, being inexperienced, I believed everything she said. Well, when I called, texted, or emailed her, the response was lacking urgency. Also, when I would call, she seemed like I was inconveniencing her time and most of the time she was yelling at her animals. She is apparently “retired” but still working some cases. Her rate is over double the other offers I received so I thought maybe it will be worth it because the legality of my situation would be vitally important for the rest of my life. No, terrible mistake. She sent me my final bill and the refund check. This told me she no longer represented me. Then, she decided she was not done and charged 100 more dollars out of the initial refund amount. She basically typed up a 3-page statement over analyzing a conversation we had over text. This told me she was just trying to get more money from me. It was the wrong thing to do, so please hire someone else.

Honestly, I wouldn't give her a single star because she doesn't deserve it. Ms Ginger J McDonald doesn't keep in contact with her clients, there were several occasions I called and couldn't even leave a message because her office phone's voice mail was full. When I tried calling her cell phone I would never get an answer and could not leave a voice message because she does not have a voice mailbox that has been set up. She is hardly ever in her office when I do get through to someone on the phone or just show up at her office by surprise. She won't keep me informed about anything going on with my case, and keeps dragging her feet on absolutely everything. She has not filed a single subpoena or court order, she has not even made phone calls to have information faxed or emailed to her. I have been doing all the leg work, getting all the evidence needed for my case. On instances that I needed her to accompany me to a DHS meeting she said that I never told her when I know for a fact she did, and on another occasion I had a meeting scheduled and called her about it, then she said she couldn't make it that day, so I said when would be a good day for her, that I would have it rescheduled. Once she gave me a few days that would work for her I called and rescheduled the appointment and then called her back to notify her. The day before the meeting was to take place, I called her to make sure she would still be coming and she said yes, but the following morning when my mother called to make sure she was coming, Ginger said that I had never mentioned it to her, when my mother knew for a fact that I had on several occasions because she had been sitting next to me on the occasions that I had made the phone calls. She puts forth as little effort as possible. If you want a lawyer to take your case seriously, don't hire Mrs Ginger McDonald.

He promised me that he was in it to win and that I had a good case. I had an emergency custody battle and he never even presented the evidence. the whole case I had several pieces of hard evidence and he swore they would not hold up in court but thanked me for doing my own "investigating." He suggested that we postpone the court date that I had set 6 months prior and now the opposing attorney is using that against me in my case. Theodis Thompson fired me because he said I yelled at him and that we disagreed about where my case was going. I now have a new attorney that has done more with one motion that theodis did the whole time he was my lawyer!!!! I paid him $1900 to keep my children in danger longer than they should have been. God bless this man. He has no heart or soul. It's pretty bad to screw people out of money but's it's even worse when children's lives are at stake!!!!

This attorney provided a very poor experience for my self as a client. Throughout my representation, Mr Thompson's communication was horrendous or non- existence except when it involved time about collecting payments. Information or details regarding my case were never explained or advised unless initiated by myself ( the client). No clear resolution or guidance was never discussed or mentioned during my case. The methods of Mr. Thompson's practice resulted in me Relieving him from my case and proceeding with self-representation. This was by far the worst representation from an attorney ever experienced.

45 minutes into my plea hearing Patrick Flake had not yet made it to the court room when they called my name. I let the judge know my lawyer wasn’t there yet and he allowed me to go call him. He answered the phone and informed me that he didn’t know we had court that day. So I waited for him to get there and went about putting in the plea that he advised me to put in. Clearly he never even really paid my case any attention despite the $5,000 I paid him to give me competent legal advice by reviewing the evidence in my case and to be on time to defend me on my court date. I was 19 and charged with delivery of marijuana which Mr. Flake refused to even show me a motion of discovery for or give me any information about but I later obtained a document that stated that a confidential informant was given x amount of money to purchase pills and marijuana from me. When the CI came to my house inquiring about those substances The document alleged that I told the CI that I didn’t have anything it would be later. Anyway, being that I was so young and had no idea what to do in this situation I just accepted these poor practices and kept him as my lawyer. I was convicted of conspiracy to deliver marijuana. If he had done his job correctly the outcome may have been different.

I gave Ernie Witt over 8 acres of land my home and 5000. After I signed over the land and gave him the money. He refused my calls and would not answer my letters. He did absolutely nothing. I was shot with my hands up and dragged across the parking lot. By deputy Chip Riddle. I was charged with attempted capital murder. But the deputy murdered me. If it was not for adrenaline to the heart and being hit with the paddles three times. I would still be Dead. I had a mistrial at which time Ernie Witt told me not to testify. Let him tell my story. Which he never said anything on my behalf. I ended up having to take a plea of attempted battery straight from the prosecutor. With out any correspondence from Ernie Witt at all. In which I received a15 year sentence for me being murdered by a crooked deputy. He is a crook.

Mrs. Allen should not be allowed to practice law. I hired her for two separate needs and after multiple attempts to get her to do the actual work to no avail she was let go. Both cases were resolved easily by the other attorneys who I hired to replace her. She was unresponsive , unreliable, and incompetent, but very capable of billing for work not done. She actually billed me $65 just to read a two sentence e-mail that I sent to her when she would not respond to my phone calls. Please do not use this person unless you have plenty of time and money to waste. By the way, she didn't respond to the e-mail either. One case was for a divorce and the other for probate. Hopefully this will save someone else's family from having to go through the same difficulties mine has had with Susan Walker Allen. Billed around $4,000 and we received nothing at all from this lady. All the work was redone by other local attorney' s in a professional and timely manner for around $3,500. When you are going through a difficult divorce or death of a loved one you do not need an attorney who compounds your misery and your out of pocket expenses.

I hired this lawyer to do my divorce/custody. Worse mistake ever made. When I first met her she seemed very nice and knew what she was doing. It all started to go down hill once I had paid her. She was very rude to me over the phone, she would basically talk down on me. When she found out who my ex husbands lawyer was, she started to tell me that she respected that lawyer and was friends with her so right then and there I automatically knew I wasn’t going to get anything I had asked for. It was almost like she was scared to fight for me against the other lawyer. Well that’s when she started to ignore my texts and phone calls. She didn’t speak to me for about a month and a half. That’s when my soon to be ex husband started texting me saying his lawyer couldn’t get ahold of mine either. We all tried and no response. Well we basically did our divorce and custody papers through his lawyer only! He would contact me and let me know what was going on and what his lawyer was going to put in the papers. I had no support what so ever from my lawyer because she still wouldn’t contact me. Well I finally got fed up with it and told her that I paid her to be my lawyer and she needed to contact me!!!!! When she finally contacted me she said “I had a class Monday and I wasn’t able to speak.” Which does not explain where she was the rest of the Month and a half. She called me and I told her what me and my husband had agreed upon and she started gripping at me some more and talking down on me. She then told me a day and time to come into her office to sign my divorce papers. When I showed up at her office she took me to the room to sign the papers. While she was being very unprofessional and telling me that I shouldn’t sign them because I was going against the advice of my lawyer and saying I needed to take it all to court. She was not ever there for me to give me advice or to help me. She wanted to push it as long as she could so we would have to go to court. But I signed my papers and left. I would not recommend this lawyer to anyone! I wasted my money on her. I basically paid her for nothing because she didn’t do anything I asked of her and all she did was bring me to her office and let me sign my divorce papers.

We hired Pat as a divorce and custody lawyer after having wonderful experience with her in my criminal case. She was rude, talked down to us and was not on our side the entire time. She was on the other party's side because she knew their attorney. She ignored us for nearly 3 months, I had to do the majority of the investigating, and then let things go.Then gave us bad advice to give my husbands kids up for adoption to people who are alcoholics and child abusers. It was unfair treatment and we let her go as our attorney. We were aware that she had an excuse of family issues at the time our case was in full swing but that does not excuse her behavior. Now we will never know if those kids will survive the holidays.

I was referred to Maurice Taggart to work with my husband to have some charges sealed from his record, being federal and state charges. Maurice Taggart persuaded me to start off with $1500 for retainer costs. Later, we negotiated $1000 which was paid up front in cash and a remainder of $1750 remaining from the overall cost of the job. Maurice did absolutely Nothing for me. He gave my husband and I the hurdles when attempting to reach him. After finally reaching out to him, he stated that he completed $1500 worth of work. He could not provide me a breakdown of the services that he provided so at least I could pay him an hourly rate, according to the contract if it was ever termed. Used for divorce. Came highly recommended. Maybe he was very good once, but he isn't any longer. Totally disorganized. A child visitation hearing was held without Mr. Kidd even informing me, the plaintiff(!); and he agreed to changes to the visitation agreement in ways that I had specifically told him previously that I would not accept. He seemed completely unaware of filings that the opposing council (my ex's lawyer) had made - I had to find them on the Court Connect website and tell HIM about them, instead of the other way around. He is unreachable by phone or email for weeks at a time. I think he has way too many clients / cases - he told me "we have 250 cases going on, so I can't know everything." Don't be #251....

He is in Arkansas magazines as awesome, NOT TRUE! A close friend that told me about him, and went with me to meet him. I used him for my divorce, although not listed as his specialty, just says family, he assured me he would be on top of my case. It was awful. My soon to be ex was on the stand lying and I told Kidd during. When it was his turn to question him (ex), he didn't say a thing. Then while I'm being questioned, neither side said a thing about the lies. It was humiliating. I stayed on top on what I owed him and paid all up front and continued to ask what I owed. Was told, face to face, I owed nothing more. Month after divorce final I received a large bill. (I will just leave it at that)

I hired Steven Kay's law firm to represent me in my divorce. Communication is severely lacking with this firm. I was apprised of several important facts pertaining to me case - after the fact- and only when I questioned things. I did not receive a bill for several months because - unbeknownst to me - the firm was in the process of updating it's accounting software. Instead of apprising me of that fact - I was slammed with a bill several months later - and an email - telling me all legal services would cease until I remitted payment in full PLUS an additional retainer fee. I was essentially penalized for the firm's lackadaisical ways of doing business. When I asked for them to work with me on a payment plan due to their lack of communication, I was essentially told that they only thing "lacking" was my ability to make payment. A friend of mine who is a local attorney has informed me that this firm has a terrible reputation in town - that - they are considered "stupid" by other law firms. Now I understand why. If I could do things differently, I would have retained another attorney. Do yourself a favor - avoid this law firm like the plague. They are solely interested in money, not providing quality services to their clients.

After our father's death in Aug. 2016, and our "brother" threw out our father's beloved pets, changed the locks to our father's house, including all the gates surrounding the house, my sister and I hired Mike for a fee of $2500, which HE said would be the "flat fee "from beginning to end to take care of EVERYTHING." My sister and I had the initial consult with Mike in Sept. 2016, at which time he collected the $2500, promising to file a motion QUICKLY, in order to remove our "brother" as administrator. Six months later, Mike had done NOTHING, while our "brother" listed the house for sale, emptied the furniture, contents, and heirlooms, and sold our father's vehicle. ALL done without my and my sister's permission or involvement! MIKE ALLOWED IT ALL TO HAPPEN with NO action taken! I would text Mike periodically, just trying to get him to do his JOB! Mike would barely respond, and no action taken. Finally, in FEBRUARY 2017, when everything out of the house was gone, and the vehicle was sold, and the house up for sale, Mike finally filed a 6 month old motion to remove our "brother" as administrator, AFTER he had it all! Now the house has a buyer, though I have never been consulted. And the kicker of it all, is that Mike says that I was "abusive", a real joke, because I tried to get him to do his job! Had Mike just filed the initial motion in Sept. 2016, it all could have been resolved. He is a NIGHTMARE!

Mike was paid to do a social security disability case for me . He was paid 2500 up front and two and a half years later the only thing that has been done was by me sighning five medical release documents that he never even sent out . I personally called all five places and each one told me they never received anything . went to the social security office and they verified by my name, social and birthday that I wasn't in the system .

My wife and I use this attorney he is unprofessional and will tell you that he cant get information about your case and tells you he cant help you with anything after taking your case and getting the run around and getting no where for 2 months and when we had him send me the files after he said he couldnt help us.I review them myself and what did I find the information he lied saying that he couldnt find or get .And what information he didn't have on the files and said he couldnt get I searched on Google took me 30 seconds to find. So what take from my experience is that he will lie to clients and not put no effort fighting for you.DONT WASTE YOUR TIME

Do not hire this attorney. He practiced with Thomas Burns (who has been under review by the board), and like two birds of the same feather, they flock together. Weber will take your money and represent you about as effectively as you would represent yourself. I wouldn't hire this attorney again even if he'd represent me for free.

I paid Scott $1250. to represent me in a case against my ex husband and he moved from Paragould to Jonesboro without telling me and I'm assuming any other clients either. When I tracked him down he was working for the prosecuting attorneys office. Since then I have had 3 very short conversations with him. He promised each time to get back to me. He doesn't keep his promises. He avoids my phone calls, text's and emails. I am in the process of getting a letter (with a law students help) to the Arkansas Bar Association and filing a complaint against Scott Ellington. If he would have returned my calls and money i would not have had to do this. I am also consulting an attorney in Jonesboro to take action against Scott Ellington. Do not trust this man because he will make you believe he can help you and after he gets your money you will not hear from him again!

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.

Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
