Paid them to represent myself, only to have them retire before my case was complete Now dealing with a attorney they sent me to.. only to find out that they didn't send any information or paperwork to. And new attorney tells me that Wayne Youngs office shredded all documents !! Expected now to start from scratch with a very short time frame. Can't get ahold of anyone who worked there. They up and vanished not to be found.

Stephen represented me in a custody modification, the results were somewhere between lackluster and offensive. Stephen and his legal assistant were unresponsive and seemed to have their own interest ahead of mine. My modification was a slam dunk, the other party attested on drug felonies and homeless, yet it took months and thousands of dollars just for the agreement we made to be changed ɓerfore it was submitted to the court without my knowledge or approval. Seek alternate counsel..

I attended court for support of a friend this morning and was utterly embarrassed and felt horrible by how this attorney handled their case. Not professional, speaking about the case with others outside of case prior to today. She seemed very unprepared and stumbled through court proceedings and seemed confused and uneducated. Rushed the day prior to court to file things that should have been filed well before.

I first became aware of Suzi Meller while going through a divorce. I continue to hire her for al my legal matters. She is the only attorney that keeps me informed and treats me like a human and not a pay check. She works hard and listens to come to the best outcome for specific situations and not a generic response. After going through a few attorneys I have found one for life.

Lied, took so long to submit papers to court that they had to request a response on if the case was still ongoing, didn't submit evidence, didn't subpoena the investigator in my child's assault case which was requested by the judge (as per what we were told), botched the adoption, and all around screwed us over, took our money, demanded more money, and never provided me with my files that I requested when we figured out we had been had.

Stay away from this attorney, she is unprofessional and also negligent in her duties as an attorney. I caught her flirting and cozying up to my ex while supposedly representing my case against him. She does a pathetic job in court and it’s very sad this person is so unprepared in a court situation. If possible I would have given her zero stars. Worst attorney I’ve ever dealt with. Absolutely recommend Avoiding this attorney.

I got hit with a frivolous lawsuit. I gave Phillip Milligan a $2400 retainer fee after he told me I would be refunded whatever he didn’t use. We filed a countersuit. Then milligan said they asked me to drop my countersuit if she dropped hers. I said, “Well, how much has she cost me so far?” I was told I had over $1700 left. I agreed I could take the loss of $700 to end it, so I agreed. I really needed that $1700 so I asked how soon I could pick it up. They wouldn’t let me pick it up. So I’ve been checking the mail. A week before Christmas, I get a letter saying they wrote a clause into my settlement making my retainer non-refundable. They were giving me nothing back! Don’t use them. They know I sacrificed to pay that retainer and they took full advantage of it!

I gave him one star because I was required to select between 1-5 stars, if not I wouldn't give him anything. Milligan failed to notify me that he postponed my court date and did not submit proper documentation to the court. When I arrived to court (which turned out he had postponed). The judge called my name and Milligan was not there to represent me. Not only was I almost put in jail but my time was wasted. When my postponed court day arrived, I showed up early to meet with him, he was no where around. He did not show up until the last 10 minutes before court was adjourned and did not do an absolute thing to what he had said he was going to do when I decided to hire him. He told me he arrived late because he was confused on whether the court was in Van Buren or Ft Smith and he had showed up to the wrong one. (Which obviously shows he paid no attention to my file) I am very dissatisfied with how poorly he handled my case, he was very unpunctual, hard to reach and unprofessional. Every time I would try to reach him, his secretaries were very rude and when I would ask to speak with him, they would hang up the line as if he were trying to avoid speaking with me. I DO NOT recommend you hire Phillip J. Milligan, as a lawyer I feel he is untrustworthy and he was able to make easy money off of me so imagine what he would do with you...

Mr. Milligan clearly puts his client's best interest as a priority. He goes beyond the extra mile to try to win your case for you. His ability to find important details that the opposing attorney misses is outstanding. The only complaint, and it is minor, is he delays getting information to the client on a regular basis prior to trial. However, he will take your calls and get back with you ASAP. Also, I believe that he is so driven to win your case that he intently focuses on that goal, putting you before his own need to take a break or even eat. Milligan Law Firm is the law firm for you if you want your case to be a priority.

Susan never returned my phone calls. I couldn't even get her assistant to find out information and get back with me. I had to call repeatedly to try and get information on where we stood with my divorce. I was charged for every little thing that she did including copies. I requested my file and she charged me $86 just to copy an interrogatory. And then when I got it and looked through it, what I had written and given to her to dispute some answers was not included. When my current attorney called to get those answers, she refused to give them. She was very unprofessional and totally unresponsive.

After waiting 3 months to hear back from Susan about my divorce I went to the courthouse in my county to find out if anything had been filed yet. Apparently 3 months earlier when I had hired her and paid for her services she went to the courthouse to file but did not have the correct paperwork and just never went back. No wonder I had could never get her on the phone or get a call back. For 3 months I was under the impression my divorce was being handled when in fact it had never even been filed. If you want an attorney that is apparently never in the office, never returns phone calls, and doesnt do what you hire her for then she is your attorney.

I brought a case to the attention of Attorney Dana Reece because I heard great things about her. Grant it I'm sure she did do a lot of great things and come off as a great person, but in my case she was not honest. I submitted paperwork and everything she needed including money to get my husband case up and running July 2015. She was not honest or communicated throughout the process. Come to find out his case was denied August 2015 without Attorney Reece ever explaining it to me, but instead she continued to lie about checking on the case up to December 2015. End result she never called me back and explained why I didn't hear back from her, but she did take a total of 1500.00. It's not about the money, but about being honest with your clients no matter what the outcome is.

I sought Dana because of the "Christian" approach/beliefs she advertised on her website. Dana spent an hour with me in person regarding my legal issue which resulted in me writing her a check to secure her services. She also spent an hour on the phone with me counseling me about my husband's behavior and stressed that I not let him move back in. I think she has good intentions but lack of organizational skills and follow-through. The upfront fee of $5000 for me to pursue an annulment seemed reasonable based on other lawyers' fees; however, she filed in the wrong county. My attempts to communicate with her via phone and email were met with sporadic responses. She ultimately told me getting an annulment was unlikely. Consequently, I did not pursue getting the paperwork filed in the correct county, and I chose not to ask for any of the $5,000 back. Another lesson learned for me... what you see is not necessarily what you get. Advertising is just that... advertising. Please take the time to find all the reviews you can on an attorney before securing services. Buyer beware. Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

I hired her in 2012 for a very simple divorce which she turned into TWO unnecessary court appearances which could've been handled in ONE! After calling day & night week after week I learned her hours start at noon & she works 1 or 2 days per week. She has her assistant tell you she is out of the office or in court but you should just try calling from a different phone number & pretend to be a new client, then you get put thru to her & can catch her in her lie. She downplayed my Domestic Dispute & lied about divorce decree. She caused me LOSE BACK CHILD SUPPORT payments b/c she DID NOT file paperwork until nearly 6 months after the Temp Hearing.

Specifically ignored Maliciously prosecuted cases and allowed clients to be convicted of crimes which he knowingly continued negotiations for Plea Bargaining in cases where blatant lack of evidence should have made him question the merits of the case. Rather than acknowledging that the guidelines of a case do not fall within guidelines of the statute, he continues to argue that he just doesn't have the capacity to comprehend anything other than his fear of political backlash. Paid upfront for what we were told should be a fairly quick uncontested divorce for my girlfriend in April of 2021. It's now been a year and a half and we can't get anyone to answer the phone or email us back for the past 4 months. They won't even reply to our messages sent on Facebook. Before that they kept giving us excuses or would tell us something just to pacify us. Their phone goes to an automated message, after ringing about 5 times, about them starting to be predominantly virtual and to leave a message, which we have now called at least 3 times a week for the past 6 months. The last time we spoke to someone there 4 months ago, she said a court date would be set within a month or two. The other party signed a waiver to appear in court in June of 2021 so there's no valid reason to keep prolonging it. A court date hasn't even been set and minimal paperwork has been submitted. We are about to start looking into other lawyers just so we can recover some of the money paid to Burgess for the original divorce. If you have ANYTHING that needs to be taken care of by a lawyer locally, I'd suggest going anywhere else but here.

Im not sure how this firm has such high reviews, in my opinion "skip" is the worst of the worst and the kind of guy that gives lawyers a bad name wish I would have read up this guy before i hired him.. if your looking for a lawyer that tells you one thing and does another, oes what he wants on your dime including telling private info to the other side that u ask to keep confidential while charging you 200 to 400 dollars an hour to have a paralegal do secretarial work you never asked for and never needed and all you ever are able to talk to is the said paralegal go to meet with him and he leave midmeeting cause he has a higher profile client he needs to talk to and never return but still don't mind to charge you for the whole time your there waiting on him to return only to eventually have his paralegal come tell you they will need to reschedule the meeting after 30 minutes twidling your thumbs waitn on him to return and has been found guilty of lying to a judge in Texas in the past, well you have came to the right place and "skip" is the lawyer for you! If I could give him -100 stars I certainly would. A Crook is the only thing I have experienced him to be. Should have been disbarred years ago, but he's played the game for a long time. I have found out the hard way how crooked that whole lawyer and court game really are in little Rock. And "skip" has proven to me what a careless sorry piece of trash he really is. A legal liar and theif that has no integrity that doesn't mind to burn you in the end. You have been warned. And i don't write reviews but in this case it is certainly necessary. This has been my my experience and opinion of the guy cause he sounds good in the beginning but a dog could do better.

My case was a nightmare, dragged on and on with no assertion whatsoever. The trial date a joke - he was more concerned with socializing. I lost thousands in a matter that should have been an easy negotiation. He couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag. In the end, he reneged on promises of conclusion, pretending it was never said and threatened to withdraw from the case. Once challenging his tone with verbatim recollection of the precise agreements and provided proof, he conceded and the case concluded. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.

I read both reviews of this attorney and from my experience, I agree with the fact that this attorney can't argue her way out of a paper sack. She is disorganized, weak in her approach, far too reactionary, and does more to tear families apart than bring them together. Failed to utilize the information I had gathered for them. They asked for hearings that had nothing to do with the case. They did this without my explicit approval. I do not believe they desire to WIN your case without going to trial. It is my belief that they desire a trial to keep the money coming. I believe you have to be high profile to get their best defense. Unless you have very deep pockets, just find an inexpensive attorney. I have learned that attorneys consider a win is nothing more than an outright denial by the jury of their competence when their client is determined guilty, rightly or wrongly.

In our phone conversation, Ms. Denison stated her fee but did not mention that it is "all up front." Ok. In our initial meeting, she reported that she had "won all 7 of the cases" she had been hired for- she later said that she won after lengthy appeals. She told me that the evidence against me was damning and that specific sanctions against me would be imposed, which turned out to be wrong. She told me that with her representation, my chances were 50/50 that the judge would see the case from my point of view. After each time, I spoke with her I was depressed and angry. In total, I would estimate that 75% of her information turned out to be false. I fired her and she was ethical enough to return my unused retainer even after her form said that it was "nonrefundable." I then employed another attorney who gave me corrected information and hope. He won my case after a skillful refutation on the elements of my case. In my life, I have hired over 5 different attorneys for various matters but I would not hire Ms. Denison for any legal matter in the future whatsoever.

first let me say i was never anything but respectful and compliant with this guy. he was nice when we first met, and agreed to take my case( once he got my cash that is) however, he wasnt interested in a lot of the details i had, which did not instill a lot of confidence(basically like he did not believe me). but he did arrange my not guilty plea and i did not even have to go to my arraignment, which was nice. then he was completely rude on the day of court. literally, the first thing he asked me was where is my money. (mind you i already paid a hefty retainment fee) he verbally reprimanded in the middle of the court hallway and his demeanor made me feel about as small as the back hair of an ant. the only good thing i can say about that day is that he got my court date postponed, which gives me more time to find another lawyer who is more professional at handling dwi/dui 's(as i would not trust this lawyer) unfortunately this nightmare is still going on... i only wish i had chosen a different lawyer in the beginning, because now it is such a late notice. hopefully this helps somebody who might be considering him. i would advise you to do more research and find a more competent lawyer for dwi's elsewhere, owing to the fact that johnny "can only represent you to the best of [his] reputation". and will probably try to get you to take a plea bargain. im not going to stick with him to find out.

Please be careful with Moody. She took advantage of my family's situation to gain a shameful win for pure money. She plays unfairly and will change "her mind" at the last moment, or to make you think so... Likely she was toxic to her own family and probably has no one. If she gets "appointed" then walk on egg shells. If she doesn't have to cross your life, you are a lucky person.

She is completely biased, lazy, and flat out lies!! She told me multiple times that it didn’t matter how many times the child told her where he wanted to live because she bases her decision on what’s best not on what they want. She misled me over and over. Claimed she had the same concerns I had. Then she goes awol for an entire year!! By that time things had definitely changed and she took advantage of that. She had multiple meetings with my child that I wasn’t aware of, her bill is inaccurate to say the least, and she lied to my face about what my child had said to her and was going to say in court. I told my lawyer when she was first assigned that I wasn’t comfortable with her based on the horrible, and very true, reviews. I was assured she was the best. She’s the worst! She will side with the dad even when the child is provided with more at moms. She needs to retire and get away from tearing apart innocent families.

This woman will lie and hide the truth. She will never speak for the children but lies to them and says she will. Instead of presenting the judge with legitimate evidence, she makes a courtroom drama and focuses on hearsay and minor issues that are truly unimportant while hiding the stack of reports that the court should see and hear. I have evidence of her misconduct and would gladly share it with the proper authorities to get this wretch removed from her unfortunate position of power.

If you are a vet looking to file a claim for disability compensation, don't use his service. He lost my paperwork, failed to tell me, dodged multiple attempts at contact for TWO YEARS until I finally showed up at his office and he was forced to tell me the truth. I then filed at Boone County where they were very helpful. Don't waste your time with this office, they say they love vets and want to help, but he cost me two years of my life waiting for a claim he never filed.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.

If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
