Kasey tells you your possible outcome and then she makes it better. She is an attorney who can think her way outside of the paper bag. She is very nonchalant, but don't let her lack of care about your situation fool you...she does excellent work.

Exactly one year ago, Connie helped me file for chapter 7. I had unmanageable amounts of debt as a result of a divorce and newborn son whom I was providing sole care for. She made the process quick and pain free. Never deceived me. Never dilly dallied or delayed. I cannot say the same for the individual I retained before switching to Connie. Anyhow, one year later I have a 670 credit score, own a vehicle, and am employed as a Paralegal, and most importantly am providing for my son. I would highly recommend that anybody who is in a situation like mine reach out to Connie Hare.

I've been working all of my adult life--40 years-- and it was not easy for me to have to admit defeat and file for bankruptcy. Joe (Selba) made it easier to face. He is so warm, personable, professional, knowledgeable, caring, trustworthy, sincere and honest. He laid out my options and we discussed and pros and cons of each possibility. Joe's commitment to excellence -- a job well done -- strong work ethic, is reviled by none. Joe (Selba) is my "goto" person for all matters legal. I feel that I not only have an Attorney for life, but a friend for life. I want to be very clear -- this is NOT a paid endorsement. This is first person, honest, from the heart! Thank you Joe for everything! With all good wishes for good health, lasting love and prosperity to you and your family! Always, Amy

Mr. Green represented me in an emotionally charged estate matter last year and offered me unparalleled advice and support for the duration of the case. It was clear that he was well respected by the judge in the courtroom and by attorney representing the other party. Mr. Green is extremely professional, well-spoken, and has a very strong presence in the courtroom. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Mr. Palmer is very professional and polite. He was my father's attorney in 1999 for custody of me. I saw he was still in practice and consulted with him about representing my fiance for her upcoming custody case, which lead us to decide to hire him. He's very dedicated and honest, he won't waste your time or money if he doesn't think he can win. He's been around for so long he's built different relationships with different courts and has a fantastic reputation. He's got a heart of gold and truly cares about his clients as if they were family. He will work with you regarding payments regardless, especially in extreme circumstances. His tactics are unique, he tears down opposing parties with their own information and inconsistencies all in his own way. He's not arrogant nor ignorant about it, subtle yet blunt. He's someone who doesn't advertise any other way than word of mouth. I found him here and can't believe there's no posts so I had to let people know about this hidden hometown gem. If I could rate 20 stars I would. If you're in need of a civil or criminal attorney in Caroline County, Maryland, call Mr. Walt Palmer.

Mr. Badger helped us with a long distance sale of my mother's Maryland home that also involved a Specific Power of Attorney. In Mama's aging condition there were stop and go's with the transaction but Mr. Badger never lost his patience or became frustrated with her or the situation. He spoke to her with dignity and kindness, and we moved forward at her comfort level. He always returned my calls and emails in a timely fashion (a pet peeve of mine) and was never too busy to answer questions or explain something. When Mama passed he was so kind and helpful, as well as knowledgeable, with his advise to us. Having been a Realtor for 31 years, as well as my personal legal matters, I've had many, many dealings with attorneys and I would rank him among the top in terms of the delightful and rare combination of competence and compassion void of ego. I would highly recommend him and seek his services, if needed again, for all Maryland legal matters in his bailiwick! Thanks, Mr. Badger and God bless! Dorothy Kelly

Roy Niedermayer successfully resolved a technically complicated unpaid debt issue for me. He quickly understood the legal complexities of the issues and offered me expert guidance. At every step of this complex process, Roy was professional, highly knowledgeable, responsive, and clear and direct with me about my options and the potential outcomes of each path I might choose. He skillfully negotiated with my ex-husband and brought the matter to a satisfactory resolution without our having to go to court. Ms. Duclos was our attorney in an appeal case for two separate protective orders. She exhibited professionalism and excellence in the courtroom in front of the opposing side as well as the judge. We met with Ms. Duclos a few days prior to the trial and she effectively obtained all of the information needed prior to this case so we were 100% ready for trial at the given time. She maintained an even-keeled demeaner and coolness when faced with cross-examination ... she didn't even let the opposing side "rattle" her. This confidence was well appreciated since we had children who were called onto the stand. My favorite part was to witness the way she questioned the opposing side to the point it made them visibly nervous but successfully get the information needed to win our trial. For the superb level of reassurance we had knowing that our case was handled with such expertise - - - it was well-worth the attorney fees and for the peace of mind she had given to our whole family. We would absolutely hire her again if needed.

We've unfortunately been involved in 3 different lawsuits and had 3 different lawyers. Chris is BY FAR our favorite. Lawsuits inherently suck your money dry and it's hard to feel good about a lawsuit or your lawyer given whatever situation you are dealing with. Chris is incredibly hardworking and thorough. When we first contacted him, we needed a lawsuit filed very quickly as we were approaching an important date that would change the facts on the ground. Chris worked tirelessly to pull together our initial filing to protect our rights and reached out to relevant stakeholders for affidavits, making himself available for several last minute signatures. He also specifically took action to file the case or respond in certain ways given how Covid has changed the way that the courts are functioning in DC (e.g., e-filing vs. going to the court, etc.). Our case was factually and legally complex and he worked for several months to negotiate with the opposing counsel and was extremely communicative with us throughout the process. Going to trial would have been costly and his ability to work with opposing counsel to come to an agreed upon resolution saved us a lot of money, and he was even able to negotiate some of the resolution costs be placed upon the defense, which saved us even more money (and energy!). Lastly, his approach and his demeanor towards us was respectful and thoughtful and made us feel like we were in good hands through the whole process. We would enthusiastically recommend him to others.

Mr. Desantis represented me as a defense attorney in an automobile accident case, in which the plaintiff was seeking compensation for a very large amount. Mr.Desantis is extremely knowledgeable and is extremely well organized. The plaintiff had consulted multiple health-care professionals for the treatment and there were a lot of incosistencies and treament related gaps. Mr Desantis had conducted a thorough review of all the medical records, and presented these issues to the jury. His court interactions with the judge, court staff, and plaintiff's attorney were very professional. He is superb with cross-examination. His opening and closing remarks were to the point, with all the facts the jury needed to make the decission. I am very thankful how he handled my case. He is simply the best!!!

I know I rated Miss Lawless very high , even excellent , and thats what she is. She took my case and from the start she worked hard to help me, I was always informed of each step and she really did her homework and studied case files and every thing ealse a great lawer would do to help there client. I was amazed to watch her in the court room , up agenst older and more experanced lawyers , she holds her ground and she won this case for me and my sister and then won 2 apeals after that.. she is a young lawyer but don't let that stop you from going to her. She knows what shes doing and dose the best. She is honest, and down to earth , easy to talk to and will take the time needed to help you, she really cares for her clients. Thank You Lydia . I hope this is of help to anyone looking for the right lawyer.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
