I was having an issue with a major New Car Dealer from whom I purchased a Certified Used Car. I tried to resolve it myself , including sending a formal demand letter , but they rudely ignored. One letter from Jill did the magic !!!

I did a real estate transaction with this lawyer and he was just wonderful! He was super considerate, helpful, thoughtful and went out of his way to make things easier for me and my Family. I would recommend him for anything. He is just a stand-up person who is intelligent and wise way beyond his years. He is not out to make money of off People at their expense but rather sees the long term picture and values quality of Life for everyone involved. He is patient and diligent and a pleasure to work with. Highly, highly recommended by me and my entire Family.

Laurie Israel handled my divorce. She is absolutely the best. She handled my case with great sensitivity, but also with great powers of negotiation. The settlement agreement ended up being pretty much what we initially proposed. I cannot recommend her more highly.

We highly recommend Attorney Andrew Adams. We recently took over the company and Andrew helped us navagite the restructuring. He was always three steps ahead, responded quickly and eased our minds about everything. What stuck out the most, was how personally invested he was about helping the company's transition.

I consulted with Mr. Aguiler on a very important procedural legal matter. The advise that he gave was ABSOLUTELY spot on. His explanations were clear, concise, and as my research concluded, completely followed the letter of the law. I then recommended him to an associate whose 1st language is spanish. Same result, perfect explanation and advise. Very impressive would be an understatement.

Carmel represented us in the sale of our condo and purchase of another condo. Her knowledge and attention to detail helped us to avoid and cure a serious title issue. She was always available for us and took calls on weekends and evenings. She even stayed late (8pm) to allow us to sign documents for the closing. Carmel and her staff were very professional and took the time to answer all of our questions and respond to our concerns. We highly recommend the Gilberti Law firm!

Attorney Keleher is fantastic. From day one he showed genuine care for me and my situation regarding a former employer. I had been dealing with my situation for the better part of a year and was feeling hopeless that things would ever be solved. I am a recent college graduate and as such did not have a lot of money to spend on legal representation, but felt that my situation could not be resolved without getting outside help. Attorney Keleher understood that and put all of my worries at ease. He worked efficiently, was incredibly responsive and approachable, and made me feel like my case was important. He listened to all of my concerns and worked very hard to ensure I got the outcome that I was looking for, even discounting the final bill for his services to make sure our settlement would work. I definitely would recommend him a hundred times over.

Daniel Crossman Perry is a superb lawyer who avoids litigation when possible; when he must go to trial, he wins cases with the merest flick of his intellect and experience. I have seen him turn in stellar performances not only in his usual field--land use cases--but also in a broad range of general litigation--including the winning of a very complex case involving a pension fund that left opposing counsel bewildered and scratching her head. I have personally witnessed naughty government officials *tremble* while being cross-examined by Dan. His one weakness is that he can, at times, be closed-mouthed and hard to reach. I spent seventeen thousand dollars in legal fees involving a residential condominium in Boston, where a large, famous Boston firm had been hired. This was only because Dan was unavailable; he would have resolved the case with equal skill and one-third the fee. Do not hesitate to bring to Dan your estate planning needs--trusts, wills, and health care proxies--as well. Dan has *literally* written the book on one of the most obscure and difficult areas of legal practice in Massachusetts--property lawyers across the state reach for his treatise on the Subdivision Control Law, which he wrote for the august MCLE (Massachusetts Commission for Legal Education). Dan's partner Marc Deshaies is an excellent lawyer as well. Judges--especially prickly, hard-to-please Superior Court Judges--know Dan, trust him, and like him. This guy is power you definitely want in your corner. In the areas of complex litigation, property, and land use, this gentleman is as good a lawyer as anyone in Boston for 50% the fee.

It has been my privilege to be associated with Christine Fitzgerald over the past five years with two different law firms. Ms. Fitzgerald is not only an exceptionally competent attorney, but she is a valued member of my executive team and provides invaluable counsel on strategic business decisions as well as legal. She is often the first call made from my office, or from the offices of other executives and she is constantly sought throughout the day, night and weekends for countless reasons. We are a better business today thanks to our association with Ms. Fitzgerald. Although it is common to speak of someone you admire in hyperbole, words fall short in expressing how valuable Christine Fitzgerald is as an attorney and business person to me and my company. I could not recommend her, or anyone else, more highly. Christine Fitzgerald is the finest attorney with whom I have ever had the pleasure of working; the perfect advocate to have on your side.

Lauren was the attorney for my house sale in late 2015 and buying a new house in summer 2016. She's on the ball, email savvy (sadly it seems not all lawyers are these days), and explains things in English to lay people like myself who have other things to worry about other than legaleze. Her addendum to my house purchase agreement was great and I felt protected, and she was flexibile in working with the selling realtor and attorney to get something that made sense.

I had several years tax returns unfiled. IRS put a levy on my wages. Attorney Lyons obtained information from IRS to complete the returns, got the levy released right away, and got my account in order. I had refunds due in a couple of years, and a balance due for one year. The refunds paid off most of what I owed, and the balance is being paid over time.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
