Wow, we used Patrick one time and did okay with that. The second time we needed to use him he did a minor amount of work and then quit responding to phone calls and emails. I understand that people get busy, but it's just unprofessional to cease communication for no apparent reason and no explanation.

She and her mother who is also an attorney there bullied me into agreeing in mediation that I tried to postpone because I wasn’t mentally or physically prepared for. I was a stay at home mother for over twenty years and received no alimony I was also suffering from depression anxiety and had many suicide attempts as well as suffering from fibromyalgia pain. I tried to leave mediation when she told me I wouldn’t receive alimony knowing my financials that I was incapable of paying my monthly bills.I told her I was leaving mediation and her and her mother were yelling at me that if I left I would get nothing ! She promised me she would get me disability, her father at the firm was a disability attorney. I was mentally beat up from the abuse my ex husband put me through during the divorce and I gave in! Worse mistake of my life!! It’s now years later I was told by her afterwards her father couldn’t get me disability I’m in pain every day and can’t pay my bills my charge cards are at their limit because I have been having to live off them since I left my ex husband who was having an affair and living with his paramour and was saying I was the one having an affair! He tormented me mentally having Private investigators follow me everywhere for two years entering my business and my home, she did nothing about it! He moved his girlfriend into my home with my children when we weren’t divorced yet. She was my cleaning lady. She would do nothing to help me get her out! She was buddy buddy with his attorney and did absolutely nothing for me except put me in a position I can never get out of!! I will never forget my first meeting with her and she said to me they are claiming you are unstable! I replied if you have been through everything I have been through you would be unstable as well! No compassion no sympathy she judged me that first meeting! My life has been hell ever since! Everything she said to me and what she would do for me was a lie!! Stay away!! I would never want anyone to end up like I did because of a incompetent attorney!!

This lady, who has a small child herself, had me thrown in jail for my sperm donors attorney fees. She sentenced me too 30 days,I could get out when I paid my ex's attorney fees of $2300. I am an unemployed, single parent who home schools her son. Kimmons did not give me a chance to pay the money back over time, did not let me make arrangements for my child or his school work, she found me guilty of almost all the accusations, strictly on hear say and did not let my witnesses speak to prove these were lies. My son is 9 years old,his sperm donor wanted nothing to do with him and did not even meet him until he was 7 years old,he drinks and drives with my child in the vehicle but she didn't care about any of that. She was rude, nasty, biased and did NOT have the best interest of my child in mind.

Based on my own personal experience with Calcutt Law Firm I WOULD NOT RECOMEND their service to any individual looking for a firm that will give you 100% commitment to preparing and winning your case. (SSD) Mr. Calcutt did not prepare me or my case in a satisfactory manner to me or the Disability Board and the outcome of the Judges decision proved as such. I was very disappointed in my Attorney/Client relationship with Mr. Calcutt. It is my opinion that he needs to put as much effort into winning a case as he does his interest in playing/watching baseball. Early on in my retaining Mr. Calcutt, the Staff at Calcutt Law Firm was rude, disrespectful and portrayed a power struggle attitude when faced with a question or opinion pertaining to my case. There were times when I was transferred throughout the office to 3 seperate individuals just to have a question answered or to give needed information regarding my claim. This law firm wasted a lot of time (16mos.) to lose a case :(

Hired Parker to settle a construction dispute. She gave hourly fee and retainer if it went to court. After a initial contact with the contractor’s lawyer, she promptly disappeared from contact. Calls and emails went unanswered and office contacts with receptionist resulted in no information or contact. After 7-10 days, she contacted us, said she had taken a fall and injured herself. We made an offer to settle the case though her to the contactor. After an email several days later saying the contractor did not accept, we asked if she was willing to go to court. No response. Days latter, we tried to contact again with same question. Next response that came two days later was she would be willing to refer us to another lawyer as she had hoped it could be settled without litigation. Why tell us retainer fee for court if she was not going to court over the case?

When you're referred to an attorney...and you ask "are you familiar with the DCPC?"...and that attorney takes in a deep breath and slowly exhales and responds "yes"...and after explaining your experience with the DCPC that attorney describes the level of mendacity and "discriminatory practices"...as another attorney stated..."very concerning what that attorney said"...understanding a number of attorneys are aware of reputations...associated with appointed attorneys...as a 20 year military veteran I recently was made aware of "other veterans" that have voiced concerns regarding their experiences...perhaps another DOJ complaint is in order...

Mr. Barker is a fantastic attorney! I cannot imagine having a better experience with my unpleasant divorce. He is confident, assertive, and has a strong presence in the courtroom (and it doesn't hurt that he is always in a well-fitting suit and has crazy good posture). My divorce was final about nine months ago and I still do not understand how I walked away in good shape! I was absolutely terrified of my husband and of the divorce process--I am fairly young, in school full-time, and my ex is not kind to say the least--but Mr. Barker walked me through the entire thing with compassion and wisdom. I genuinely felt that he listened to everything I said and fought for what I wanted and what was best for me. He was quick to return my calls if I had to leave a voicemail and always answered all of my questions (even those that were probably irrational). Bonus: I never ever felt like he was talking down to me or over my head. My ex-husband is nasty and spiteful, and Mr. Barker advocated for me in such a way that my ex actually played relatively nice AND he got me a good deal of money when I was expecting absolutely nothing! I know he got me more than what I should have gotten, and I am certain that this only happened because Mr. Barker was dedicated to my case and fought hard for me. His solutions were creative and realistic, and seriously he was so incredibly kind to me throughout the entire process!

I was charged with a DUI. Normally, I would have just used any attorney but unfortunately due to my employment any type of blemish on my driving record would have meant immediate termination. I did my research and consulted with three attorneys in the area that specialized in this area of law. I really did not want just any lawyer representing me. I did find that many lawyers were willing to take the case but really did not do a lot of DUI cases. I was quite apprehensive about being in a situation with an attorney who normally does not do a lot of DUI work. After consulting with Steve I found him to be candid and straightforward. He early on told me the positive points and negative points in my case. A close friend of mine had referred me to his office. I decided to retain him upon consultation. Steve and his office staff definitely went to "bat" for me and my case. In the end, I attained a dismissal due to various circumstances surrounding my case. I have never been in a situation like this before in my whole life. I felt much more confident knowing I had Steve and his office by my side. While I do not intend to have any more problems in the future I would always be a client if the need arises. When it is important and a lot is at stake, I would highly recommend anyone to use him as their lawyer.

I am writing this review as a warning to others so they will not have to go through what I went through with Jim Tucker and his firm. Divorce is already hard enough and drawn out, if you hire Mr. Tucker it will only bring you more stress and a guarantee that it will be drawn out for far longer then it needs to be. I hired Jim in July of 2016. He took on my case and assured me it would be an "easy case". After he took my money I didn't hear back from Jim for over 3 months. After countless emails and phone calls I reported the money spent to my credit card agency to try and get a refund. After getting this notification he apologized and seem interested in taking on my case again with a significant discount. Finally over a year later we still haven't even made it to mediation. Separation paperwork wasn't filed till end of October and my spouse didn't get served until January of 2016. I still to date have never seen my spouses response to the separation claim. 6 MONTHS after it was filed with the courts!!! It was like pulling teeth to get a response. The guy didn't seem to have a care in the world about my urgency and it seemed my case was the least important to him. I had to fire him and hire another attorney because it got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. He was never prepared for meetings. Lost emails and paper work I had sent in countless times. Would NEVER respond to my emails or phone calls in a timely manor. Literally months would go by and I would maybe get an email from his paralegal that didn't even address all the questions I had. The divorce has gotten no where and it has been a year and a half sense I moved out and began living separately. Do yourself a favor and hire another Attorney. Lindsey Dasher is great and it has been night and day working with her compared to Jim Tucker.

Mr. Tucker and his associate where outstanding with the help they gave me securing my granddaughter and bringing her back home. I live in NC and my granddaughter was taken to SC by her mother at a supervised visitation. Mr. Tucker was very knowledgeable on the state to state laws and within a day we where able to find my granddaughter and bring her back home. The care they put into this was unbelievable. They made me truly feel that they cared as if this was their own family member. Going through a circumstance like this is no fun but Mr. Tucker took a lot of the worry away. Highly recommend him and the law firm.

She was hired to assist another lawyer in a civil case. Instead of taking the opportunity (for professional growth and a lot of money) and learning about the case, she chose to use her existing knowledge. She apparently knew nothing about this kind of case and chose to remain ignorant. She often gave the client incorrect information. Her laziness and arrogance were very obvious. She was only waiting for a check. She was incredibly rude - continually taking personal phone calls during meetings with client and other lawyers, screaming at the client, etc. She did as little as possible and even tried to get the client to do her work for her. She disgraced herself personally and professionally. Her commission was substantially reduced due to her actions or lack thereof.

I contacted George Sink Law Firm due to a car accident, at no fault of my own! The firm helped me find doctors that treated my body injuries and educated me. I regained my normal body mobility, with out pain or discomfort! Thank you to all of the staff at North Charleston BP Chiropractic Care! I found myself in a bigger problem then just being lucky my body was only hurt! The firms attorney Mr. David Johnston was handling my case when a third party company began fighting me. The third party company was not directly involved in the case. Mr David Johnston was willing to help me state the facts of the car accident with the understanding I had to fight the third party company on my own! The third party company only wanted me to pay...pay...pay! The work that went into my problems where not always apart of the case at hand for my attorney. Without the honesty of the attonery Mr. David Johnson and willingness to provide the facts in strong deliverable format to me. I would not have been able to state the facts with all the information in a timeline format to the third party company! Mr. David Johnston with out a second thought was honestly concerned with the Facts of the case being presented to all parties in the case and in my person problems! I gained respect, gratitude and will highly recommended Mr. David Johnson for a life-time! With the act of honesty Mr. David Johnson choose not “to just do his job”; he went “Above an Beyond” to help me! It is my privilege to know an attonery in the low-country which does not quit when their reach is limited! Again a car accident with no fault of my own, I was able to gain Justice from all parities! Mr. David Johnson I Thank You! My Warmest Regards, Jamie

I engaged the services of James Calmes to complete a legal matter. When complications occurred, his fee tripled over the initial amount that he had quoted. When I asked for the work that had been performed and that I had already paid for, he and his office did not respond to calls, emails or a registered letter to comply with this request. I wanted to present the information to another attorney to get their opinion and it was information that I had paid him to research and compile. I was unable to do this. I had to terminate the services of James Calmes and hire another attorney without receiving the information that I had paid for months before. Bottom line – I hired a different attorney that charged me less than half of what James Calmes had quoted to complete the job.

Prior to his disbarment he was my Divorce Lawyer. I was unaware of his legal issues and later found out that he was under investigation and was facing charges that he was later disciplined for in which I believe that he may have served prison time for. He did a horrific job as my lawyer. He was extremely arrogant and because of his legal advice, I am paying Alimony ($800 per month) to my Ex wife for life. She is also going to receive a large portion of my Military Retirement in a few months. Because of his lack of ability or ineptness in representing me, I will be paying over 30% of my retirement income to my ex wife. I believe that due to his own legal issues that he did not represent me as he should have.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.

For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
