Ms. Bauer explained the CA offer and never once made me feel this was the "best" option. Based on the facts of my case, Ms. Bauer clearly explained all avenues available to strategically defend my case. She explained several options I can choose and thoroughly explained the pros and cons of each. Ms. Bauer made me feel she was ready and wiling to defend me regardless of the option I chosen. She did her best to achieve the best outcome which ultimately resulted in convincing the judge to allow me to operate a company owned vehicle without an interlock device which the CA strongly opposed.

Very attentive lawyer, helped my husband witha DUI. Mr. Martelino got him his liscense back and helped a great amount. He is also Spanish Speaking, so that is helpful (although not to us, we are English speaking). The only thing that was annoying is he did not always answer calls, or call back quickly. Aside from that, I would recommend him to anyone!

Mr Loria is experienced and knowledgeable in a number of areas of law. He is dedicated to attaining the best possible outcome in a client's case. Mr Loria was able to get a favorable result for me in my Landlord -Tenant dispute by using his skill and knowledge of the law. The judge ruled in our favor due to Mr Loria exposing certain improprieties and violations of law by the landlord in the case. He kept me well informed throughout the process and clearly explained and outlined our strategy. I trust Mr Loria to handle my legal matters in a skilled and professional manner.

I filled out the contact information... twice through the website to schedule my consultation because I am profoundly deaf so I rely on e-mail or text for effective communication. Yet I hadn't received one response from any of them. So I called their law firm in Harrisonburg area and learned they never received my form. They advised me to fill out an intake form before I speak to lawyer within 24 hours. So the next day, I checked my email and nothing from them. I called just right before the meeting with a lawyer, turned out they had my email address wrong. So I finally got a chance to talk with a lawyer through my interpreting service to interpret for me, the lawyer sounds nice on the phone. So she emailed me asking for my father's full name and I replied back right away. Then after for a while, I sent a follow up email and no response. Another follow-up email recently, and she finally responded by the end of day. She said she spoke to one of the partners at the firm and there is nothing I can do due to other party's consent. She has tasked the office manager to send my dad a contract to sign. Still no response so my dad and I were able to find a lawyer from different law firm to help us out... I am not sure if it is normal to take a while for Cravens & Noll lawyers to respond to clients. I am a Legal Resource member and waste my time.

Teresa Cole achieved for me a fulfilling life post divorce by ensuring my financial stability in negotiations with my ex husband and his attorney. She was conscientious of how we spent our time so that I wasn’t wasting my funds on unnecessary talk and issues. She was professional, effective, and completed my complicated federal employee divorce in just 18 months. She knew the best mediators who helped get the job done. She helped in advising me for my future life plans. I highly recommend Teresa.

I had a terrible experience with Camille Crandall at Hicks Crandall Juhl, P.C. Her handling of my case was deeply flawed, leading to significant financial losses. Camille failed to secure an updated appraisal for a major asset, causing it to be grossly undervalued during my divorce proceedings. This oversight resulted in me losing a substantial amount of money. Additionally, her inadequate representation led to an unrealistic and excessive financial burden for me. When I sought accountability, I was met with threats and baseless accusations from her firm. I strongly advise against hiring Camille Crandall if you want competent and ethical legal representation. My experience with her has been a costly mistake.

Susan and Haley are truly professionals with a clear sense of vocational calling. They were the lawyers who helped me through my divorce. Although my ex-partner appealed, and I consulted with other lawyers, the more I met with them, the more I realized how outstanding Susan and Haley are. They are not only professional but also genuinely kind-hearted. They answered all my questions promptly, often on the same day, and meticulously assisted me with every detail of my divorce, from beginning to end. I want to express my gratitude once again.

He was very helpful gave me a free consultation prior to filing and any time I had a question he gave me his personal cell number so I could call him anytime I needed to. Mr. Shareff was very helpful throughout this process. His staff was always professional and well mannered. I recommend his law firm for any bankruptcy filing.

If I could give a zero star I would! I started my divorce process the end of September 2022. Nothing contested already separated for the time needed. All he had to do was submit the paperwork. In the beginning everything was great answered my questions and returned phone calls until I paid him for everything which he said that I had to pay in full before he would file with the courts. Then he had medical issues I understand that take presidents over everything. During this time there wasn’t anyone answering his phones or emails so I’m my mind I thought he was ignoring me. Then he finally answered me and explained he was dealing with medical stuff I said ok I hope you get better soon, please just keep me posted on my case once you get back to work. Finally get something from him in November. Then silence from him until end of February. Singed all the paperwork from him and sent it back. Finally received my divorce papers beginning of March. I am still waiting on something the judge signed off on March 8th to be sent out so everything will be finalized. I have called and emailed and gotten zero response. Do yourself a favor find another attorney Update he got my review and terminated my representation! Fastest response I’ve gotten from him in the whole process! Update: he sent the wrong paperwork to the wrong address. I provided him with the correct information and he refuses to fix his error. He will not respond to email to let me know if he is going to fix the issue or refund me my money. He stated he fulfilled his job. He did not because I paid him for a process that he did not finish. I have given him the option of the refund of the part he has not finished or to file the correct paperwork and no response.

I had them do a limited research for me. They did an outstanding job, and I will be recommending them in the future. This April, 2018, I had them do more research for me, instead of in the area of personal injury like before, this one was criminal defense. They did an outstanding job for us, and I will be recommending them to everyone.

I found this office through a quick google search and called them in hopes of assistance. I spoke with Michael (Mike). We spoke for about 15 minutes, possibly more. During that time he was extremely helpful and possessed depth of knowledge on the subject which helped ease my concerns. I’d recommend Mike’s services if in need as he was thorough and honest in his approach.

I contacted the firm regarding abusive neighbors. I explained the situation and asked for counsel that did not believe gay persons should be persecuted. I was led to believe an attorney would call almost immediately, as the secretary confirmed there would be no conflict of interest in representation. No one called, and the firm refused to return my calls, and would not take my calls. I have to conclude the firm favors the persecution of gay persons.

Heather Steele is the lawyer you want to have in your corner when you have a knotty real estate problem. Ours involved a poorly written contract, poor record-keeping, and a one-time renter who turned squatter. Add a pandemic moratorium on evictions and 3 frivolous appeals, and you have 3 yrs & 3mos of litigation that included 2 years with no rent paid. Ms. Steele stuck with us all the way and in our 7 court appearances, we never lost. She is dedicated, sharp, knows the law, and never gives up. Now the squatter is out, and we have our house back.

Regarding Mr. Phillips and his Assistant. The lady and the lawyer are unprofessional. The woman was very rude and falsified information regarding my phone number. I expressed my concerns in a civil manner and she became very defensive and hung up on me. She then admitted another number was on file but tried to claim she never said there was never an additional number. I would not recommend this place and the lawyer never took the time to see they changed my phone number and never returned my call. He sent a letter telling me to do the case myself and without a lawyer.

I would not recommend. There were many times I had to remind her she represented me and not the other party because she prioritized getting any information THEY requested over what I needed before court. I also had the exact same experience another client posted for their review, despite stressing that we needed to ask for child and spousal support she said, we can ask for that during your divorce case and waited until right before we were about to walk into court to run the paperwork up to the clerks office so not only did we not get that set but because paperwork had not been submitted until the last minute I was ordered to pay the other parties attorneys fees. The only time she was quick to make sure I recieved paperwork was when I went to sign off to end her representation as my lawyer. I was told I owed her thosands of dollars and because my retainer had been used up and when asked why this was the first time I was hearing about this was told "we've been emailing the bills to you" despite me repeatedly informing her I was having issues recieving emails. The multiple times I was in her office there was no mention that she was now billing me well after and that my retainer was used up. Instead I was handed a large envelope on the spot that was as thick as a book listing billed hours. You are better off handing your money directly to the other party and saving yourself the time and frustration.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
