Attorny Gelbman was hired to take care of a traffic violation in upstate new york for me. He told me the matter was resolved and provided me with a document and a fine which I paid. Turns out that he gave me the wrong documents and the fine was sent to a different court altogether. After I had informed him of his mistake he acknowledged it and said he'd "take care of it" but then he stopped responding to my/off the record's phone calls. Highly unprofessional.

Asa represented me for my divorce. I found his communication and organizational skills very poor. I needed to send my Tax returns to him multiple times. When I'd email asking 4 specific questions he'd respond ($) answering 2. I'd ask a second time, ($) and he'd answer one ($) then a phone call to answer the third ($).
At one point he was at court billing me for time while he worked on another case on his computer waiting for the judge instead of being aggressive and negotiating with opposing counsel. ($) it was a frustrating 22months. COUNTLESS number of communication errors and double/triple billing. When I was vocal about my frustrations, 3x he tried to pawn me off to another attorney in the firm.

Yes we would recommend him but with a note that it was difficult for us to be kept informed as to the details of what was occurring with our case. His legal assistant was very helpful but he often "thought' he went over something with us, never having done so. In fact we learned "afterwards" that we were supposed to be at a pre-hearing before a judge on a connected matter (small claims appeal) that we were never told about. Fortunately, the defendant never showed up either, or it may have gone badly for us. Now whether lack of being informed about this was his fault, or that of his assistant's, we do not know. We often felt "left in the dark" about what was going on. Though the case was won in our favor, to this day we are still not exactly sure of all that went on in the background. He did coach/teach us well before our hearing(s) about the proper way to respond to questioning and seemed very knowledgeable about law and court proceedings. He was also personally very nice and accommodating.
