John C Heal made a 2 year ordeal seamless . I had gone through 2 other attorneys who could not resolve my issue. Not only is he knowledgeable he is compassionate something that many attorneys lack. I would give him a 10 all the way! Highly Recommended

John was an absolute fantastic attorney!!! He prepared all my paper work for the sale and re-purchase of my property along with all with divorce/mediation materials and instructions. Excellent in communicating to demanding family members and ironing out "fires" through difficult times. Extremely reasonable with his fees. I would definitely recommend him to any friends or family and I would use his services again without hesitation!

I had a different attorney who really wasn't doing anything. So happy to hire Peter. Compassionate. Understanding. Kind. Actually takes the time to LISTEN to me. Outcome was even better than I imagined. Thank you!

Peter helped me win my unemployment case. But that doesn't describe a fraction of what he did. He researched my case, formulated a killer defense, and even met with me after hours to review before my hearing. Not only did he win the case for me, he slam-dunked the thing. I found him to be dedicated, communicative, available, organized, extremely smart and professional. I've had limited experience with attorneys in my life, thankfully, but if I have a need in the future, Peter will be the first one I call. I cannot overstate what he did for me. Needless to say, I recommend him.

My case was not a walk in the park by any means. It involved parent access, spousal maintenance and child support. Lesli Jahangiri did an outstanding job representing me. To say she cares and fights for your rights as a parent is an understatement. She kept me informed and calm at times where I was growing impatient this ultimately lead to things working in my favor. Without going into great detail it was a win and a big weight lifted off my shoulders. If you are in the process of getting a divorce or fighting for your parental rights do yourself a favor and contact Lesli Jahangiri!

Lesli was a reliable constant when I needed someone during my divorce. I felt very comfortable talking with Lesli during our initial meeting. Lesli was cool and calm during stressful times for me. She kept me informed of what was going on with my case and most importantly why and when we should do what she suggested. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and knowledgeable lawyer.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have an amazing attorney by your side like Carl. After going through 2 other attorneys that never contacted me, did very little to benefit my case Carl was a breath of fresh air. He is very transparent, up front, clear and he communicates well. Over all its the best experience I've ever had with an attorney.

We met Carl Selesky while we were involved in a custody case for our (then) 18-months old son. His mother had taken him away and relocated him to Texas without permission or notification and we had just managed to track her down. Carl handled our case very professionally, yet in a very friendly matter. His strategy in handling the case was efficient, focused and particular. He didn't leave anything to chance, but followed all the leads available to hm, ultimately succeeding in securing us full custody of the baby - to the child's best interest. We are confident that we have received the best advice available to us and we will be keeping using Mr. Selesky's services in the foreseeable future.

I got charged with felony DWI almost a year ago in Fayette county in La Grange , I was basically falling asleep at the wheel and the cops saw I had two prior DWI's from 10 years ago. My breathalyzer test was zero, and even though I refused the blood test, they went ahead and took my blood and justified it by the fact I had priors. They found meth and zanex in my blood test and I was looking at 2-10 years in prison, a suspended license, or 10 years probation, and I wasn't even drunk. Not only did Adam Reposa get me my drivers license back during the ALR hearing, he also got my charge reduced to a reckless driving misdemeanor , with time served and no probation, and he waived the rest of money I was supposed to pay. I hope I never have another case but if I did, I would defiinitely hire him again.

Adam helped my cousin recently and even waived part of his fee because he knew my cousin needed that money to get his life back together. He got the charges reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor and the sentenced redueced from 6 months in jail to 1 year of probation. I can't thank him enough for fighting for my cousin!! He was charged in Williamson County, a county notorious for discrimination against African Americans and Latinos. We all worried that my cousin would have to serve jail time, but thanks to Adam, he has a 2nd chance!

Kelly helped with a debt collection situation. When I didn't understand for sure what they were asking for, he was good at explaining it. I felt comfortable asking as many questions as I needed in order to get it straight in my mind.

A friend of mine recommended Kelly to get my record cleared. Every time I have gone for a job interview -- I was nervous of the employer digging too deep and my having to explain my past "transgressions". Thank god now I don't have to - - thanks to Kelly Dawson. He made the process of expunging my record so easy and really made me feel like he cared. Not exactly the usual experience with a lawyer.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
