Jamie almost always answered or returns calls and texts fast with answers to questions. Drove upstate every month and sometime every week for 10 months for court. He will send in a respective colleague if an emergency arises and he’s unavailable. Represents integrity while fighting to get you the best defense and results.

I have been unemployed since January 2023, so I submitted an order to modify my child support payments since I receive unemployment benefits and still paying the same amount as if I was working, leaving me with $260 a week to support a family of 6. I waited until July 21 to have a virtual meeting between this man and my ex-wife. Nothing got done during this virtual meeting, he kept asking for the docket number which he had, now we have another meeting in October. I will probably be homeless by the time we have the next meeting. I don't understand why he could not modify the support order just by knowing the fact that I am unemployed. Of course my ex-wife is laughing her way to the clubs drinking the money is supposed to go to my son. This man should not be a magistrate, he should be in a Burger King flipping burgers.

Horrible. Sarcastic. Arrogant. Rude to woman. He’s definitely doesn’t have experience as a magistrate. Received many errors on my support order and still in the process of having them corrected. Was dealing with another magistrate but she apparently retired. So disappointed case has been given to him.

I paid Mr. Testa to go to court for me and plead not guilty to two of my traffic tickets. Instead of going to court for me, he avoided my court date and my calls. I received a suspension in the mail for my license because he never showed up in court, when he said I did. It was a three day weekend this happened over, so Tuesday when the courts reopened I went with my paperwork and saw the judge. They dismissed the tickets (something they would've done had my lawyer shown up in court when he was supposed to) and reinstated my license (which I would've never lost in the first place, had my lawyer whom I paid actually gone to court to fight my tickets. I had a better experience going in myself and speaking to the judge directly. I also don't appreciate lawyers who speak down to clients or don't do what you hire them to do. I would not recommend him.

I was happy with the representation and felt I was guided the right way. I would recommend this lawyer to anyone.

If you are man, looking to be represented for a divorce, then DO NOT, repeat DO NOT go to this lawyer. Thanks to him, I am paying thousands of dollars a month in child support. He had absolutely nothing of value to add to the divorce. In fact, the only good things that were entered into the divorce settlement came by way of my idea. Despite my ex being a horrible mother, and a totally irresponsible drunk, this lawyer basically said I had no chance in winning because I was a man. Perhaps worse than him, was me though, for not firing him on the spot. But since he already had my retainer, and as poor as I was, there was not enough money to go out and seek alternative counsel. He was a terrible representative to me. I would not even recommend him to fight a parking ticket. Now, and thanks to him, I have to live poor for several years now.

Handled will, power of attorney and real estate transaction and unfortunately I was disappointed. In retrospect I realize she did not ask questions that would have enabled me (and her) to uncover situations that I/we could have made better decisions on. While she knows the real estate business, on 3 occasions, she had to call or write to me because she had forgotten something we had already discussed or thought of yet another question. It was a basic real estate transaction.

Do not recommend AT ALL. Customer service is horrendous and a waste of time. Better off fighting for the ticket yourself.

As the petitioner the court judge appointed Lisa M. Kurcias, for the custody case of my then 11 yr old child. During the time of legal representation she got hurt physically and excused herself at a significant time in the custody case. At the initial meeting I expressed that I wanted custody and that the respondent/father had violated a previous order I had in place. Lisa M.Kurcias failed me as a lawyer because instead of fighting for custody, which is what I wanted, she agreed to give consent of custody to respondent without consulting me. That day, before seeing the judge, Lisa M. Kurcias told me that the father/respondent was going to be awarded custody and that she wasn't going to be my lawyer due to medical leave. After leaving the judge's chamber, custody was awarded to respondent and never saw her again.

She will sweet talk you into pleading guilty to the top charge against you to make it easy on herself at your expense. She does not care about her clients at all. All she cares about is that she is not making enough money. She lied directly to me over several legal issues and is ethically suspect. She never returns phone calls and did not even show to my court appearance. She had better things to do than to defend me. Ms. Fogarty is outright dishonest and should be sweeping floors and cleaning bathrooms at McDonald's not representing clients in a court of law, A horrible experience from which I may never recover. Many of her clients were sent directly to jail, others received lengthy prison sentences.

Mr Castillo works for HPD . In 2013 a Family building received minor violations totaling 1500 $ for repairs in a tenant apt. The Super handled the case with the mgmt co. after a few failed attempts to gain entry to apt, HPD filed a lawsuit and was issued a default judgment for 25 k ( which was served at my home , but never received bcs i was traveling. ) A copy of the judgment was also served upon the tenant who did not notify mgmt or Super it until time to file answer expired thus the default judgment ( from 1500 to 25 k ) Super retained Howard Chin Esq to reopen the judgment and offered a settlement of 5 k to be completely paid off in installments by Nov 2014 , which was paid End of Nov 2014 by the Mgmt Co . Without my knowledge . in December I filed for Chapter 11, HPD wss added as a creditor (index 1361/13 ) but since they HAD ACCEPTED THE 5 k pmt ( unbeknownst to me ) They never replied , not to the the trustee , or the chapt 11 Atty . There were no communications from hpd, no collection activity or demand for pmt . As the debt had already been paid . In Feb 2029 , My son who was a joint beneficiary on the account advised there had been a Restraining order placed on the account for 25k . I was still traveling but was able to communicate with Mr Castillo and asked him to immediately bcs the debt had been paid in 2013 . He released the hold only to restrain the account again in Dec 2019 . He proceeded to hire Sheriff Russel Shuylar to Levy the money after Pandemic Lockdown April 1 st 2020 for a total of k 39,000 Thousand Dollars , part of an insurance house insurance pmt to fix a partially collapsed roof in my property . Both Mr Castillo and Schuyler refused to answer my calls . When i called the to report theft by Fraud , Mr Castillo called me and blamed Schuyler for withdrawing the money and said he would return if i had an attorney representing me . I paid 1000 to hire an atty to get the 39,000 back and he could not get thru to Mr Castillo , when he reached out to the Sherrigf , he was told that he wasn't at fault . He had done what Mr Castillo told him and until he heard from Mr Castillo he would not release the funds . My roof is now getting more damaged and mold is growing in that part of the home because HPD employees stole the money from the ins refund to do repairs . I cannot continue to pay attorney to get back what should never had been taken . I'm 87 years old and this is considered a Crime . My Family is filing a lawsuit against Mr Castillo , Mr Schuyler and HPD for restitution of 45 k plus attorney fees plus punitive damages in the amount of 300000 In addition , will will demand a disciplinary action against Mr Castillo and fight to have him disbarred or at least forex from HPD so he can't victimize anyone else . Don't DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PERSON

Working with this lawyer was very difficult and stressful. The lawyer nor her office help return phone calls. For example I was told to leave money in escrow for the last water bill. I left 500 dollars in escrow. I closed on Oct 11 2023. It is now Jan 25 2024 and I am just getting the money resolved. So the water company sent the last water bill in Nov some time. I forwarded the email to the office so they could be alerted to take care of the bill and then give me the reimbursement as we had discussed at the closing. The office of Valerie Gray never did this. I emailed them called them I would not get a response. I requested for my reimbursement. When I got sporadic responses it would be they had to get back to me. They never would until I wrote the lawyer an email stating I would take her to small claims court if she did not respond to me. She responded saying she does not respond to threats. The issue finally got resolved but by my realtor who had recommended this lawyer. It was one of the most unprofessional service that I have ever received from a business. In fact prior to the issue being resolved by the realtor ( not the lawyer). The lawyer wrote in an email that they would send me my money but I had to provide them with a fed ex label. Which is absurd. Anyway at the end day there was an oversight from her office staff and that was the hold up on my reimbursement. It was something simple that could of been handled way better than it was. I am a very unsatisfied customer.

Joseph Donohue does not fight for his clients. He did not take my case serious from the very beginning. It was very hard to get in contact with him. I had to call multiple times, multiple days. I had to leave voicemails and text and wait weeks for a reply. While in court he didn’t speak even while the other attorney on the line was doing his job very well. At some point I had to unmute my computer and speak for myself. I called him afterwards to express I feel he did not fight for me. First and only thing he said to me was “if you don’t like how I do things feel free to get a new attorney”. He made me feel small. Next time we spoke he told me “the father will eventually get what he wants”. So it showed me he had no hope from the beginning and didn’t intend on even trying. He jeopardized my case. He never apologized. He continued to call to explain himself while never letting me speak and yelling at me and over me. This is the most unprofessional attorney I’ve ever had to deal with. Wouldn’t recommend.

I was a victim of child abuse in the foster system. Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
