Joel was referred to me by another attorney with whom I had a consultation with but could not afford ($700 per hour). All throughout his representation of me I found him to be professional and VERY attentive. I would receive call backs the same day of each call (this was my second divorce and I can tell you that this is not the norm), he was fully prepared for court and his papers were always well drafted. Get him while his rates are what they are right now because I only see them going up based on his growing reputation for strong representation.

He gave me a flat fee for a finish work but he didn't sign an agreement. Later things got complicated, it can happen and it can happen that you layer have the fault but here his attitude was unbelievable, he didn't show interest or capacity to finish my case and I have to fired him, then in an aggressive way he said he want more money to stay working on the case denying his initial agreement. Having dealt with Jason on an appeal, I can say he wins based on the better argument. Intelligence goes further than shine, and his ability to write what has won the case I needed him to win made him the best appellate lawyer I've ever had to deal with - he knows how to argue, write, and make the arguments get the final results, and that's all that matters when folks' lives are on the line.

For your sake, please do not WASTE $3,000 + of your hard earned dollars. I think the hallmark of a very strong attorney is absolute competency and integrity. I feel that Jason Eldridge has neither. I had the absolute misfortune of being represented by Jason within the past year and found him to not only be incompetent, but dishonest. It wasn't until I was represented by a superior law firm and READ the court transcripts that I learned how truly bad he is.. 1) For multiple hearings (at least two) he NEVER filed a motion! The first time, he expressed surprise when the City attorney stated that they never received it. The second time, when it became clear to the judge and the city attorney that he wasn't doing his job, he promised that he would do it by the next hearing (he never did) and yet he was trying to milk me for another $4k in attorney fees. 2) In a hearing where I was supposed to be present, but was unable to attend, due to a medical injury, I emailed and sent him docs from the doctors and he assured me that i would be ok because he would present them to the judge and it would be in my file. The day before, and the day of the court hearing, I emailed AND CALLED to insure his receipt, but he never contacted me back. I later learned, shortly thereafter, that the court issued a bench warrant due to my absence. When I asked him how could that be the case when you assured me all was fine since i had the medical docs proving my injury, I was told "the judge didn't believe me." HOWEVER, after reading the transcripts recently of that court hearing, I learned that he NEVER SHOWED UP TO THE HEARING! This resulted in a bench warrant which was later vacated after I secured a very competent attorney. When my new attorney read the transcripts, and saw the history of the file, he said if my attorney had done what he was supposed to do and file the motions and attend the hearing he missed, my case would have been dismissed. If you want a responsive attorney who will do their job well and be honest with you, you will be wise to choose another attorney. I did. My only regret is that I am $3,000 poorer.

I was wrongfully arrested for a DWI a few years ago. I was advised to go through the phone book and find a lawyer that I trusted. The officers not only berated and accused me on the street, but neither of them were trained in field sobriety so i was detained without proof. When I was released, I called several numbers before stumbling upon a law office that referred me to Mr. Rodriguez. From the moment I spoke to him, he heard me out. I told him the situation, he listened intently and didn't give me any advice until he knew the whole situation. He was able to attain copies of my coordination test and used these in court to prove my innocence. I am thankful every day for Mr. Rodriguez's courtesy and professionalism. I referred every friend and family member with a legal issue to him. He is spectacular!

I retained Raymond Rodriguez for my criminal case. Since the beginning he was useless. He never believed in me as his client. It felt like he was prosecuting me rather than defending me. He never respected my education, profession and my background. He did not try hard to obtain acquittal for me while my case is easy. His lack of professionalism pushed him to threaten me to be deported (While I am a US citizen born in the US). He also accused me of being mentally ill. All this misconduct was while I was his client. Lawyer usually work hard not to have their client deported. Lawyers also defend medically disable clients. I do not wish for any client to use this lawyer as his defense attorney in any criminal court.

Also, he got the charges dropped, which was the most important thing. Very trustworthy and down to earth. He looks young, but don't be fooled.

I retained this attorney to handle a family real estate dispute. The attorney from the beginning told me that he does not litigate and all he could do is send correspondences and try to negotiate. After 2 correspondences sent by the attorney the opposing party never responded. At that point he advised that I speak to another attorney he knew who does litigation. The experience with the other attorney was not positive, so I reached out to Robert to express my concern about the other attorney and my experience with him, hoping that perhaps he(Robert) could take over the situation since at that point there was dialogue with the opposing side. Robert was very defensive about the other attorney and kept urging me to go back to him despite my wishes not to. Finally, he agreed to reach out to the opposing party's attorney and informed me that negotiation will not be an option and to either return back to the attorney he recommended or find someone else. So I retained another attorney. After some time, I think when the case was in discovery, the new attorney obtained all email correspondences that Robert had with the opposing party and their attorney. One of the emails I was appalled at. He was revealing to the other attorney information that I shared with him(Robert) in confidence and misrepresented my position and intentions. This I believe was a violation of confidentially. Providing that information to the opposing attorney worsened by case. This was not professional or ethical and I do not recommend him.

My family and I have worked with Patrick for many years, and find him to be the most honest and forthright attorney I have ever met. Patrick always provides me with an honest assessment of whatever issue I bring to him, even if his assessment is that I don't need to hire an attorney. Patrick's practice is one of the very few businesses that has survived all these years on Third Avenue because it is a family business and a part of the Bay Ridge community. They really treat everyone like a neighbor and truly care about our neighborhood. Patrick is and always will be my family's first stop in a crisis. Even if he doesn't have an answer, he always knows where to find one.

I retained this attorney to take over an existing litigation case. From the beginning I was displeased with this attorney's behavior. He is extremely rude, thinks he knows everything and was constantly belittling me. The first time I asked to terminate services and receive my retainer back, he outright refused, insisting that I give him 2 more weeks so he can prove to me that he "is a good lawyer." For those 2 weeks he was avoiding my phone calls until one day I had enough and went to his office, requesting my retainer back in person. He was still giving me a hard time over returning the retainer and kept changing the amount withheld. His clerk first told me $750 would be held back, then the attorney raised it to $2700.00. I disputed this amount and sent him a formal letter of termination and told him that I would possibly seek litigation and other remedies to acquire my rightful refund. It was after receiving my letter that he sent me a letter offering only $6261.00. From $750 that his clerk told me to $3739.00 is a huge difference. To date I have yet to receive anything in regards to a refund and the matter has been handed over to the Brooklyn Bar Association and 2nd District Grievance Committee. I do not recommend this attorney to anyone.

Maybe in the beginning he was competent and on top of things, may even have lots of good testimonies under his belt from his starting years. However, from what I have seen from my case with him, I would not recommend this lawyer. He seems to be balancing lots of responsibilities on his own (as a lawyer and minister at a church) and has refused to hire any other help apart from his secretary who also doesn't really look like she understands anything law related. Because of this, so much vital information had to be literally forced out of him, he more or less forgot the case until we reminded him of it, procrastinated on submitting important documents, didn't pay for a certain service he should have paid on our behalf making us miss a deadline by 4-days, and he made a lot of time-sensitive blunders, one of which put one of us in removal proceedings, all while still demanding payment. I do not write this out of spite, but I just warn you to know exactly what you're getting into. Please look for someone who is actually available, who actually cares and is focused on your case. Please do your research and choose wisely. Good luck on your immigration journey.

This is the office that I highly recommend for visiting for several reasons! First of all, the employees and managers are polite, diligent and professional, especially one pleasant woman, whose name is Sasha)) Secondly, because the work and applications are processed up to deadlines and on time. For example, my Letter of attorney and Apostille were processed ahead of the agreed deadline, which for I was amazed and pleasantly surprised, cause that gave an opportunity to check the document thoroughly and send the approved version back for final processing. I like the fact that they send translated documents to their customers for the review ahead of time. Third reason is that the office has a convenient location in Brooklyn, and managers can analyze and process documents both - in Russian and English languages! That is awesome! So, my final word is - do not hesitate to visit and refer to the outlined office!

Stay away from this overpriced man that deceive people out of their money knowing he cannot provide a service. If I could give zero I would. Do not hire this man for any immigration matter as he doesn’t have the least idea what he’s doing and instead of telling you upfront; you will not hear from him. He and his secretary not professional at all. I do not know about his other areas of practice but DO NOT HIRE FOR IMMIGRATION he’s not good in that area and he’s overpriced!

I’m normally not the type to make a bad review but I want to warn anyone that might be thinking about using Strazzullo Law Firm. Sorry in advance for the lengthy story but I don’t want to leave any details out. I hired Sal Strazzulo (a high school friend of mine) for a nonsense domestic dispute where my ex made false accusations against me. The police have no choice but to act on any accusation made, so they made a few visits to my house while I was at work, saying they just wanted to talk to me. Meanwhile there were 4 police cars pulling up at my house all because I gave my 14 year old daughter a glass of champagne on New Years Eve. My girlfriend was home and was very scared. The only lawyer that came to mind was my high school friend Sal. He called the precinct and said they were going to arrest me but because of him this was no longer going to happen. Instead I would have to do a voluntary surrender of my guns, (I’m an avid hunter) Which is standard procedure in a domestic case for obvious reasons. At this point I thought everything was over and I would repay my old friend by taking him out to dinner or whatever payment he requested after his fifteen minute phone call. It would be worth it since I didn’t spend the night in jail. This is when things started to get weird, he passed me off to a Lawyer that must have passed the BAR ten minutes ago, his name was Jason Krimsky. He was demanding I give a $7,500 retainer because Sal there was still an active investigation against me. I was surprised to hear this and when I asked the details he had none, Sal was now unavailable to answer any of my questions. My girlfriend was panicked and insisted I pay the retainer. Agains my gut instinct I did exactly that. Every time I asked Jason what was going on with my case he just insisted that there was an open case against me and that he was doing everything he can to protect me. A little while later the ACS agent told me that the investigation was closed because there was no real crime and it was in a different state so it was out of NYPD jurisdiction. When I asked Jason about this he immediately switched gears and said well what about your guns, don’t you want them back? I can help with that. The police officer at the licensing division told me that I would get my guns back soon, they just wanted to make sure there were no more issues between myself and my ex. I told Jason this and he said we can get them back faster. When I asked how he gave me salesman type answers like the squeaky wheel gets the oil and we will put our best foot forward. Again against my gut instinct I agreed to use the rest of my retainer money for this. He said we can issue an article 78 which would mean going to Supreme Court and of coarse cost more money. The officer out of professional courtesy (since I’m a fireman) said Get rid of this lawyer he is making things worse he’s doing everything wrong and because of him you might never get your guns back. I mentioned the article 78 and she laughed. She said this is a nonsense allegation trust me you are getting your guns back. I knew I could trust her so I called Jason and said I want to pursue this matter on my own and no longer require his services. He said I was being lied to and not to trust the police but I insisted I was done. Last we spoke I had $3,500 remaining from my retainer. After days of texts asking for the balance of my retainer. Suddenly Sal wants to meet with me to discuss why this was a mistake. I insisted they return my money. I felt like I was dealing with gangsters and not lawyers. They ended up sending me an invoice with my remaining money and its was dwindled down to $1,500 Which is what I expected from this shady law firm. On the invoice was the article 78 which we never did, so I questioned it and said they would adjust it and Sal said I would be very happy with my refund. Weeks and months went by constantly texting and calling Sal for my money back and still nothing. This guy is a crook.

Rashidah may be a fine lawyer if nothing goes awry during your closing process. She seems to do an extraordinary volume of closings, based on how often she or her office tells you she is unavailable due to being tied up in a closing. But if something goes awry during your process of buying a home, seek legal advice elsewhere, because she either has little to offer, or lacks the interest in imparting it. In my experience, as a first time buyer where many things did go awry, her advice to my legal questions was typically: (long pause, after offering no advice) …let me know what you want to do. In my experience, she did woefully little due diligence, ignored many red flags, and told me those worrisome red flags were typical and would be fine (hint: they weren’t). I had the misfortune of having a delayed closing that coincided with the holiday season, during which she disappeared without letting me know when she might be back. E-mailing your lawyer in the middle of a deal to get generic out of office replies with no idea of when they would be back, with the clock ticking, added an enormous amount of stress to an already enormously stressful process. Perhaps the timing was wrong, perhaps the majority of deals go off without a hitch. But you don’t know how things will play out going into a sale, so why take the chance? Stay away.

Rashidah made me feel like I was her only client. She must be so busy and yet she always returned my calls and emails same day. She is a calm and pleasant person to talk to and puts you at ease. She explains everything and helps you to understand the documents before you sign, no matter how many questions. Her service cost exactly what she said it would. Everything she did was quick and efficient. My closing date was April 1 2020 right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic (I had signed my contract in December, but you know how long co-ops take). The seller's lawyer didn't come to the closing in person due to social distancing. Rashidah handled everything, since it was just signatures on documents that had already been prepared. She brought hand sanitizer and a mask and extra pens, and made sure that the seller's attorney called him on Zoom before we started so he could be virtually present. She brought all his paperwork and mine, and we had what my realtor called the smoothest and fastest closing she'd ever seen. We signed everything on my new kitchen counters. I already knew that Rashidah was reliable and excellent at what she does, but I learned at my closing that she is also flexible and has even the unexpected issues handled.

She's handled several transactions for us and will be doing more; I consider her our go-to attorney. She's a real estate specialist but they also do ordinary wills, trusts and estates. She excels at responsiveness. She has not been in practice all that long, and as a result, there are obscure things she does not know. But for most people this is not a concern. Highly recommended.

Demetrios represented me and my wife on a home purchase in Queens. From the jump we knew we made the right choice. He explained everything in detail and made sure the seller cleared a violation before we closed. I will definitely be using him again and referring him to all my friends and family. Thank you, Demetrios!!

Lawyer Genet, to me is the best lawyer one should always work with. me and my wife filed our adjustment status in the year 2000 and attend the interview the same year and our case was denied. And immigration proceeded to deportation process and lawyer Genet came in and save the situation. she is professional in handling her clients and respond to clients request on time. if not because of Genet, my husband would have been deported. I will recommend lawyer Genet 1 million times. she is the best.

I had a case in family court. And Genet worked so hard to get me the results that I wanted. She made sure that the court heard all my concerns and did what was best for my child. I really appreciate all her hard work and would recommend her.

Genet isn't the most reliable lawyer, never came prepared for a case, took all my money, and dwelt with my case for 7 years. However we grew a lawyer - client relationship and through it all we came up on top. She won my case and now I am relieved. Thank u genet.

Cheryl Charles Duval should not practice law in NYC let alone in the USA. She is incompetent, unprofessional, ignorant, and does not act in the best interest for her client. You will be lucky enough to get an email or phone call from her regarding your case a day before court. The only thing she is good at is noy doing her job. She sent wrong information (sent me a virtual court appearance when it was in person). I asked for her supervisor’s information to file a complaint and she has been a ghost ever since. If you are in Kings County and this monster is assigned as your attorney, please run immediately. She will do more harm than anything.

One of the things I like about Mark is his ability to provide sound and practical insights about legal issues. He is extremely resourceful and knowledgeable. His duty of care to clients goes beyond the formal requirements- but he shows empathy and understanding of client’s needs. Lastly, Mark is simply a kind human being.

I do not recommend this lawyer, she did a lot of harm to me and my family. A process that would have lasted 2 months took almost 3 years. And she still kept my money, even though she didn't do what she was paid for. She never responds, she blames everyone but herself. Save your money, don't do business with her!

Stay as far away from this law firm and this lawyer. They lie about their price then charge you more in the end. They do less than the bare minimum then want more money to actually work. This guy should lose his license.

This guy is terrible and a liar. Quoted me one price, never contacted me and did nothing for me. Wanted me to get documents for his office and had his secretary call me to push me to do his job. He then told the realtor that I’m making his job difficult for him. He then wanted to charge me double because I told him I’m not getting documents for him that he’s supposed to get himself. I never spoke to him once and ended up switching lawyers. The 2 weeks I was gonna go with him he didn’t do one thing. Should get his law license taken away.

JESSICA COMES ACROSS AS WANTING TO HELP, HOWEVER, WHEN REPRESENTING IN COURT SHE HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SAY TO DEFEND HER CLIENTS. SHE JUST SITS THERE WAITING FOR THE NEXT COURT DATE TO BE ASSIGNED. POOR REPRESENTATION. I WOULDN'T PAY TO HAVE HER REPRESENT. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD NOT DO IT. TRUST ME.

Natalya was a beacon of hope to my family at a time when the first law office seriously messed up my case, failing to meet their duties of professional conduct. Brightly educated and deeply intelligent Natalya Knyazeva not only was able literally to prevent a disaster, protect us from the chaos and confusion, caused by malpractice from another office, but her calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional support to myself and to my family. Knyazeva Law Firm has core values and high standards that are critical to success, and I enjoyed my time there greatly. Excellent service and genuine interest for the clients making business with Knyazeva Law Firm a great value. We couldn't be more satisfied with the awesome service we received from Natalya, Highly Professional and amazingly beautiful Soul to work with. Probably once of the worst attorneys I’ve ever dealt with and I’ve dealt with many attorneys. He doesn’t know what he’s doing, which is why he always takes forever to do anything. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s still new? But I would not recommend him anytime soon to anyone. Maybe in ten years when he learns how to do his job, if he’s still an attorney by then. There are plenty of others out there who will do more in one day than this guy in months.

Georgia Coffinas is highly competent. She really knows what she is doing. I could not have gotten my divorce through without her. I have been trying to leave this review for a log time but there were problems with the website. I even tried to delete my other review because this one is better. Things worked out so incredibly great!!!

This person works in the divorce court on Brooklyn. She lost a bunch of my papers and blamed it on me. And Some of the papers she said weren't there were in fact in the very same pile that she said they were missing from. Also, I had to go back up to her office and get help from her associates because she gave me bad instructions. She is just another idiot bureaucrat who doesn't care about the misery that her laziness costs other people. Don't ever hire this loser unless you want to lose!!!!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
