She’s only good for drafting up court papers & telling you that you when you need to replenish funds. She doesn’t listen to her clients. When its time for her to represent you at court she’s shaking, clueless & unprepared. I wasted so much money on this attorney, when I decided to retain a more experienced & reputable lawyer I finally won my case. Alexandra Viele will intentionally drag your case out for more money & would not produce any results.

I have a order for arrest for missing a court date on DWI after a whole year and some change of them constantly continuing it, the first time I wasn't able to make it they order me an arrest and my attorney withdraw which I felt was unfair due to the fact she knew I was trying but i sense she didn't care cause we never really communicated, her demeanor come as if she really didn't care what happen, i left her plenty of messages and never a call back or response, which I also don't understand what's a point of an attorney if they can't represent you if you are not there. Definitely defeats the purpose of having one when you have medical emergency, no transportation and stay 45 minutes away. I wouldn't recommend this attorney to anyone definitely didn't come off as if she wanted to help. Now I'm left having to deal with this order for arrest on my own, all I can say is God don't like ugly pray for those that will do anything to bring you down.

I have NEVER been able to get ahold of Mr. Holderness. I can't offer an opinion, however; the bio I read on this Angelic being is unlike anything I've read before. The way he helps everyday people is phenomenal!! I know I would have given 5 stars had I of gotten to talk with this gentleman. After 1 month, I'm still trying to find a way to get in touch with him about a lawsuit.

Spoke with KM about a restraining order against ex-boyfriend who on multiple attempts has threatened to kill me and my dog, magistrate has granted not 1 not 2 but 3 WARRANTS against him, only to hear from KM that magistrates are not attorneys and attorneys know more and basically Mag doesn't know what they are doing. Mind you KM has only been practicing law for just under a year. She has her head stuck so far up her ass with her snooty attitude that she is doing the public a great disservice by working with Legal Aide. If you are assigned to KM, ran the other way. When asked to speak with her manager or someone, anyone above her, she was reluctant to give out this information. Shame on you KM! I have a disability as well as a service animal. When told KM who my Personal Injury attorney was (he's very famous in town and extremely personable and fantastic) Katie with her higher then thou attitude responds, "never heard of him." Yes KM, I'm most certain He has never heard of you either! I'm not sure what Law school accidentally handed you your JD. I had no choice but to give one star to be able to write this review. I have a college education as well. Just happened to not be working due to a traumatic injury and qualified for Legal Aid. I'll be speaking with another attorney who has been practicing for over 2 decades tomorrow and has agreed to take my case. Please note- I will definitely be filing a grievance with the NC state Bar once my ordeal is over. You should really consider another career. Pompous snobby woman! Anyone can pass school and get a JD, not everyone should be practicing, however.

When buying a property, they represented both myself and the seller (HUD). We agreed beforehand that I would pay a prorated amount for the HOA dues based on the closing date since we did not know when this would be. We all signed the contract, I paid the prorated amount of $131.25 (May 8th -31st) and the seller was supposed to pay $39 (May 1st-7th). The seller (HUD) did not pay their amount and now Dale Fussel Attorney wants me to pay for it. I guess it is easier to go after an individual than HUD. I will pay for it to avoid problems with the HOA.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with this attorney, despite my being as gracious as a person can be with another person. I would not recommend due to extremely poor follow-through and an air of entitlement, in my opinion. Was made to feel like I was constantly chasing her down. Made a stressful situation only more stressful and wasted my valuable time. I guess she thinks hers is so much more important.

Stay Away from this lawyer if you need help if you want a mute lawyer who will be totally unprepared to handle your case, some one who has no ability to defend you at all, for one he doesnt know how to speak in a court room( i think he was afraid of the judge), He has no idea what to tell you to say or not say. This is the most incompetent lawyer i have ever seen.I thought i was going to get help, I am sorry i hired him, i ended up getting $100 a month in disability. how this person is allowed to be a disability lawyer is beyond me, he is not only a mute ( doesnt know how to or can't speak because he doesnt know what to say in the court room), but he arrived after almost 2 years absolutely 100% unprepared to handle my case & is a total incompetent. STAY AWAY if you desperately need help, do not use this lawyer, You will end up with nothing like i did , i will suffer for the rest of my life because i hired this incompetent instead of an experienced law firm, but how do you know? I know because now i have to live on $100 a month for the rest of ,my life because i hired him. he is NOT a disability lawyer .The stress i will live under for the rest of my life is due to his total incompetence, who can live with $100 a month ? no body , get a different lawyer if you want to be able to survive or if you need help badly , do not go here.

I called and left 3 messages at the office when I needed an attorney and he never called back despite his office manager said he would call. I think he has a lot of " qualilfications" but only on paper. When a person needs a lawyer , they want at least a call back even if you wont accept the case. His treatment of potential clients was so unprofesional .

I feel like I have to post a review for the attorneys that are employed by the Council for Children's rights. I hired Patti Tutone and the team including an advocate to protect the rights of my grandson who was thriving living with me for almost 10 years. I am very disappointed they actually saw fit to put my grandson in a trailer that can only be described as trailer trash to live in. I wish I could have them have to deal with what he is dealing with now. He constantly is asking when we are going back to court and calling me from his moms asking me to pick him up. He has been late for school so many times in the last 4 months that she has had him I lost count. Her boyfriend has hit my grandson and now he is afraid of him. I have to tell my grandson there is nothing I can do right now because the advocates and the courts (without the blessing of his therapist that had been dealing with my grandson for years) and made that horrible decision for my grandson to go back with his mom saying they needed a mother son bond and to avoid arguments that my daughter and I were having. We were having arguments because my daughter made bad decisions in her life and now gets to make them with her son. Again my grandson was thriving in my home, he played sports, not late for school, got good grades and felt safe. My daughter did not do any of the requirements that were asked by the court and judge. She continued to be late, did not show up for a therapist appointment and did not take an active part in the sports he is interested in. Please do not hire this attorney or use the council for children's rights if you want to protect your child. If you want council for the neglectful parent than this is the place you will find it. They do not protect children in my eyes and should definitely have a therapist in the mix of people who work on these cases. It is sad and has upset my whole family. Not sure why the court system gave my daughter requirements in the previous court hearing because they were completely ignored by her. She continues to do the same parenting she has done for years. I know she loves him but is not looking out for his best interest. We expected the court and the advocates to this.

We are being represented by him without him knowing at late notice. He is a public defender. Upon finally getting an appointment with him after 3 1/2 to four months, we sit down with him for him to tell us how to take a plea for a felony on a self-defense charge. Before we got here it was self-defense when we get here now he wants him to take a plea because it's a licensed black man with a gun. Then before we even try to finish reading the paper he gave us, he looks over at me and sits up across the desk like he was going to jump on me telling me how he did not like that I had to call a supervisor at the PD Office to get him to make an appointment with us because we've had two court dates that we did not know about because he is not returning communication. I called the public defenders office to gain communication from him because he said he would call by end of day but again no call. Then the whole meeting was me being eyeballed because he was ready to tell me how he did not like the fact I called the public defenders office. Yet we did not get into his case until 35 minutes into the sit down. How do you spend all that time going over what you did not do Like telling us court dates, calling us back, emailing us back, or even meeting with us for the first time.when you are representing someone that is too childish. Especially when you sit up to a woman like you going to jump on her and rolling your neck and eyes. I do not recommend for representation. This first meet since he became our attorney in March or April. Or whenever it was, it's been so long ago but we just now meeting and it was bad!

This lawyer, yes he won my case got 20% of 100,000, but sent me a bill for another $1000!!!!!!! After 7 years of working with him he gained my trust and at the end he just completely lost it. The beginning he stated that if he won my case he would just collect the 20%, if he didn't win my case i would have to pay the legal fees which would be approximately $600. Well he won, and i thought the 20% was all that i would have to pay. Then a month later i got a bill in the mail stating i owed more. I called and complained and he kept stating he didn't say that. The only lawyer i talked to i would know what was said and what was not.

I CALLED THE OFFICE DUE TO ONGOING UNWARRANTED LETTERS FROM THIS LAW FIRM. I EXPLAINED THAT HE'S SERVING ME THE TENANT AND NOT THE ACTUAL OWNERS. THE RECEPTIONIST ACTED TOTALLY CLUELESS AS TO WHAT I WAS SAYING REPEATING HIMSELF AS IF I WAS ILLITERATE. HE THEN PLACED ME ON HOLD IN ORDER TO CONTACT THE LAWYER. THE LAWYER MR. HEMENWAY PICKS UP THE PHONE, DID NOT GIVE ME A CHANCE TO SAY ANYTHING RUDELY SAID, "WE'RE AT LUNCH" AND DISRESPECTFULLY HUNG THE PHONE UP. I REPORTED ALL OF THIS TO SEVERAL GOVERNMENT ENTITIES THAT HANDLE THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR. IT TAKES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO BE KIND REGARDLESS OF THE SITUATION. AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MY NAME AND POLITENESS SHOULD NEVER BE VIOLATED, YOU BEING A LAWYER KNOWS IT FALLS UNDER CIVIL RIGHTS.

This lawyer by far provided the worst experience I've ever had in my life, bar none! The long story behind my charge... "My license was suspended In July '10 for a DWI charge. I accept that. But May 13th '11 My girlfriend and I were riding around, (I wasnt driving of course) But my girlfriend has Lupus and Rheumetoid arthritis. Later that day we were still out and she had a sudden flare up. She was in severe pain, so I had to take the wheel to get home. Mind you I do/did have a limited driving privilege. So I get LITERALLY 150ft away from my driveway when the cop lights come on!! Wasnt speeding or making an infraction. Girlfriend's tags were expired, which neither of us knew at that moment. Now, My privileges were FROM 6AM TO 10:30PM. It was then 11:15pm. Out of my range. So I knew there was a chance that I may be in trouble but she needed her medication and food. So I just drove all the way to my drive way. The cop was very unforgiving even after seeing my girl's condition. Arrested me and the second officer to the scene also voiced that my girl was in bad condition and needed medical attention. The ambulance and fire squad showed up and saw that she was in super pain and they all voiced their opinion on the matter in favor of our circumstances. I was released from jail (after 12 hours). Month later I go to my arraignment to be officially charged with DWLR. I was unemployed at the time and did not have the funds to hire my own attorney so I opted for a public defender. This is where Justin Witt comes in!!! I'm never contacted by him at all!! in any way!! I call him several times understnding that he has court obligations so I call at various times and leave messages. He never calls me back. The first court date we got a continuance. He never handled anything! Next court date Sept 16th 2011, here is where it gets good!! I get to court early and sit there for an hour looking for this curly head, young looking guy to show up. Instead an assistant shows up and calls my name. Now mind you she looks just as young and unpromising as he did. She tells me that Mr. Witt is "out sick!" On my court date and I was the only one in court under his case load that day!!! She automatically tries to go for the railroad tactic and tells me to take anything I can get becaause the judge is an a-hole which proved to be very true. But I will get to that. I asked her if there was any way I could ease the pain on the circumstances I explained to witt. She looked at me completely clueless! He had not briefed her at all on my case. So Im forced to explain everything I just explained to you, 10 minutes before I go before the judge!! AAAHHH!!! The assistant gets in front of the judge and completely drops the ball. She was very daunted and nervous, not to mention she clearly had no recognition in the court house. Oh yeah, the arresting officer was a dick because he made it seem as if I took him on a high speed chase and I had 3 pounds of Colombian blow in my trunk! So the Judge gives me 30 DAYS in mecklenburg county jail!!!! No bail, no probation. 30 DAYS!! Not to mention I have a squeaky clean record with the exception of the dwi! So the little assistant appeals it and the judge (judge Moore) who probably has erectile dysfunction and is mad at the world sets my bail at $5,000!!! Again released after 12 hours and paying $500 I had to squeeze out of a rock! SIDE NOTE:My baby Crystle stayed at that jail every second from the time I got locked up around 3pm to the time I got out 3:30am!! Love you babe!!! Over this whole ordeal I have spoken with Witt ONCE!!! And he still has my driving privilege papers and I cant drive until I have them. Luckily I now have a good, PAID Lawyer that is handling it. If you can stay away from public defenders, Please please do! They are overloaded with work and have no time to work on your case exclusively. But if you have to take one because of finances, I suggest you do some research on the law yourself! Thanks for listening!

David Boggs is dishonest!!! He has charged me for services, in which I had not requested. It's called bill padding. Do not retain him. Please use a more reputable attorney. David Boggs is not to be trusted!! RUN....AWAY!!! Also, David Boggs had kept my funds in his escrow account for nearly two months, after I had canceled my contract, rather than proving an immediate refund. Before sending the refund,David Boggs had generated $1300 in bogus charges; nearly 90% of the funds, in escrow. Disregard the one star rating. David Boggs gets -10 rating.

After hiring Ms. Dowd to handle my case she got the initial paperwork started and then went missing for several weeks. Her phone went immediately to voice mail and she did not respond to messages or emails. In fact I had to reach out to my legal benefits company and it was only then that she emailed me with a short update and no apology. She then went missing again for almost a month before her voice mail turned into a brief message that the contact was unavailable. After my legal benefits team tried reaching her she eventually emailed an apology that she had been sick and there was a death in the family but she made no effort to update her clients of this fact or provide a legal resource to back her up during this period. This left me high and dry during a critical time. I was in the middle of an uncontested divorce that turned contested because she was not there to provide the needed answers and actions.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
