Engaging Cordell & Cordell, specifically with attorney Kevin Stoner, to navigate my divorce was a regrettable decision. My initial concern, a $50,000 request from my wife for only being married one year, morphed into a financially draining ordeal, leaving me out over $130,000. Expecting expert guidance, I found myself at the mercy of Cordell & Cordell's questionable tactics. Despite the simplicity of my case, they steered me away from an amicable settlement, opting instead to drag the process out, seemingly driven by a desire to maximize billing. The financial impact was staggering, with my expenses skyrocketing far beyond the initial request. It became evident that Cordell & Cordell prioritized their own financial gains over achieving a fair resolution for their clients. The decision to go to court was a grave mistake. Cordell & Cordell provided little to no defense arguments on my behalf, leaving me inadequately represented and vulnerable during proceedings. It was a clear indication that their primary concern lay in their fees, not in securing a favorable outcome for me. In summary, my experience with Cordell & Cordell and attorney Kevin Stoner was characterized by financial exploitation and inadequate representation. I strongly caution others against choosing this firm, especially if seeking a prompt and fair resolution, as their actions seemed more aligned with financial gains than genuine client care.

My initial attorney left to start his own practice rwo weeks into filing for my divorce. I was then assigned this clown by Cordell and Cordell! He did not listen to me at all! Did not take into account anything into account that I had to say. I was assaulted three times by my now ex-wife and nothing was done about it! In the end, I spent $30,000 for pass-through work from an idiot lawyer!

Kevin was always very prompt in handling any questions or concerns I may have. He worked to change the norm for our case by listening to my requests and submitting them to the court even though he wasn't sure they would be accepted by the judge. In our case I was awarded primary physical custody with decision making in case of an impasse along with child tax rights every year in lieu of lowered monthly child support.

Had a consult at K&G with Jennifer. She was straight forward, nice, seemed understanding, and answered all my questions quickly. I was concerned that she was very young and had just recently graduated law school. As my case would likely be quite entailed, I simply didn't feel comfortable with someone so new representing me. My other concern was the office environment. I was greeted in the lobby by two dogs. One was massive. I want to say it was a Great Dane. The receptionist was no where to be found but I did hear laughter and people joking in one of the offices. When the receptionist did appear, I was a little taken back that jeans and a shirt were appropriate office attire. Jennifer was dressed similarly and had several visible tattoos. Again she was nice but had a less than professional appearance. While I understand this is a very small firm with only two full time attorneys, I simply didn't feel comfortable paying a couple hundred an hour for their services.

Hired for a military appeal which had strict deadlines. In response, he avoided me until those deadlines had surpassed and then sent me files that I requested months in advance. He did not do anything I hired him for and made the excuse that he was too busy and did not have an assistant. He’s always had an excuse; meanwhile, I went with out proper legal representation.

Hired Frank to work my appeals because he came recommended from my defense attorney. I think he is worn out and no longer motivated. He failed me, did not communicate with me at all, especially in the end when my appeal was denied, he dropped all communication and didnt have the decency to call me to discuss. Not impressed with his effort at all. Waste of money and a waste of time. Please spend more money on a lawyer who has gumption. Frank Spinner does not.

He gave credit to the ridiculous numbers given by a dirty attorney. He pitied my husband. I work insane overtime. I’m a single mom. My husband sits around all day getting high in the basement. Judge Henson ordered to give him half my pension, benefits, and assets so that my husband can continue his lazy lifestyle.

As a family dispute lawyer Judge Henson is a far cry from fair and equitable. He is definable on every man's side railroading housewives, women, caregivers, working or not its never good enough for him. He is ok with men violating illegal pendancy actions. He supports men not caring for their children during not only pendancy action but also during major pandemic's. In fact he rewards men for it. Of course also believes that women probably do not know much about vehicles, values or could even enjoy them... that's only for men of course. Cases are rush and proper testimony not given, yet orders created out of chaos. Judge Henson has NO idea/familiarity about Union Benefits. He allows for men to double dip on credits/benefits etc that put already economically challenged women at even greater risk for being mistreated. Thus in favor of putting unfair challenges also in minor children of fathers who want to not be held accountable for having children. Judge Henson may have been a good lawyer, decent criminal Judge, however, HE IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST DOMESTIC RELATIONS JUDGE EL PASO COUNTY HAS.

Dealing with an extraordinary case of someone squatting, he is living in my home with myself and four others, he is not only squatting, he is harassing, terrorizing, and traumatizing the lives of five people. Someone else already refused to pay and left claiming they were constantly scared. It's been months, costing me thousands of dollars, and the money means nothing. This has been traumatic and It's happening to five people. This is cruel and unusual. He has done nothing extraordinary to help, just going through the steps, has taken over three months to get this processed, still planning on processing him for not paying, there will be no recourse for all the trauma, and now he just called me saying he needs to extend the trail again for personal reasons. Disgusting incompetence. I cannot believe this is even possible.

Hired this lawyer to collect a debt. 4 months later he has done nothing for the case. I even physically went to the assessors office to get documents that he needed to move forward and when I called him a couple weeks after I gave him the documents to see where he is. (BTW he has not called me once to update me because there is nothing to update when he hasn't done anything). He told me over the phone that his agency has only went down and collected the documents from the assessor. He implied that his agency did the traveling and paid the document fees. When I did that. Unreliable and Untrustworthy. Do not waste your time and money hiring.

Would give 0 stars if possible. Attorney did absolutely nothing but took a big chunk of backpay. Took myself through my Ssdi claim for almost 4 years including the initial denial and appeals process. Went to a hearing, and judge asked me to come back with an attorney. Found this one through a friend referrel . Worst decision ever for legal representation. She literally did nothing. Except negotiate an inset date that cost me to lose 3 years of backpay, in exchange for a bench decision. Then had the audacity to charge me for fees for Obtaining my med records... Which I took to her and paid out of pocket for, to the record copiers, In order to get them released. She then took 25% of each of my children's backpay as well, which I never retained her for my children. Scam con artist scum attorney. Avoid her at all costs

I was in an auto accident in July, 2015, where I was injured after being forcefully rear-ended and thrust into into another vehicle in front of me. I went to Heuser and Heuser for representation, they readily agreed to take my case, and I was assigned to one of their attorneys, Patrick Salt. The day Mr. Salt took my case was the one and only time I met with, or even spoke to him, until the day he dropped me 19 months later. The only contact I received from the firm during that time as their client, other than periodic letters, were from legal assistants, and ONE face to face with Mr. Salt's paralegal. (He went through three different legal assistants during my time as his client, and each time a new one was brought on, I literally had to give them every detail of my case, the doctors who were treating me, etc. as though the last one had not kept any notes or records of the previous conversations I had with them). I often would not hear from anyone for 2-3 months at a time, then I would have to call to ask how/what was going on with my case. Whatever assistant was there at the time, would either make up some sort of excuse about why I had not been contacted or why things were taking so long, such as saying my doctors had still not sent them my records, or something similar that put blame on someone else. Sometimes they offered me no excuse, and simply told me they would speak with Mr. Salt and get back to me; then another several weeks or months would go by. To make a long story short, Mr. Salt completely neglected my case for a year and a half, then when I assume he realized his neglect had severely hurt my case, or they weren't going to be able to make enough money off of me, I was called in to speak with Mr. Salt for the second and last time at the end of February, 2017. This was when he told me he "didn't feel comfortable" representing me anymore and withdrew from my case. I was given no warning, and when I pleaded with him not to do this to me and asked for a reason why, he refused to give me an explanation, instead, he literally opened his office door and responded with "have a good day." So now I'm left with a stack of paperwork as thick as an encyclopedia, with no idea how to proceed, attempting to find another attorney who is willing to take a tarnished case. Mr. Salt treated me like I wasn't a human being, but just a disposable "case number" that was only worth whatever potential money I could make them, and once he thought they couldn't make enough off me, I was thrown away like a piece of garbage. It was the worst experience I have ever had with someone who is supposed to be a professional.

If you want an attorney to take your case, coerce you into hiring a handful of experts - regardless of court's scheduling order - then, drop you at 8pm at night for NO cause - other than the case is more than she can handle, and apparently doesn't like being asked WHY experts were hired....she's your girl. If you want an attorney who drags her feet to retrieve discovery / disclosures needed for your case - she's your girl. If you want someone who does NOT know how to present a case - she's your girl. She will waste your time and money. She is (in my opinion-potentially) only able to handle simple, non-contested divorces....and even then I wouldn't hire her.

If I could give this POS a ZERO Star I would. Impossible to get a hold of, literally did nothing for my family court & contempt-of-court case. My personally favorite of his climax performances is in trail after the other party cried on the stand for 52min lying about me, Andy advises me to remain quiet and NOT to testify…I ended up serving 48hrs incarceration for contempt of court I never committed and the other party didn’t have any evidence. Second favorite is each time to submit a motion Andy took forever and week to get it done. From beginning of March through June he submitted two motions of parental change that were each subpar, elementary, and amateur. Then to top it all off he ghost’s me for three weeks while a bunch of stuff is pending and then to hear he is departing Andrew Bryant Law Firm to open his own Law Firm. Take my advice and stay away from this useless POS.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
