Cullen was hired based on a referral from Tessa. I had been assaulted by my spouse, who was a former special forces operative and had tried to strangled me to death with our kids in the house. I had very little experience with attorneys. I was in shock and had no family to support me. Leading up to my permanent protection order hearing, I offered over and over if we needed witnesses or documents submitted. There was the woman who had met me at the hospital. The officer who made the arrest and others who had been involved. Cullen was dismissive and said it wasn't needed. She also never informed me of my rights as a victim of a violent crime. My assailant mocked me as I shakily gathered my belongings after going through security. When Cullen arrived for my hearing, she failed to even bring my file. She was disheveled and had nothing prepared. She asked if she could borrow my personal file. She told me to call my 19 year old daughter, who was watching her younger siblings and ask her to come testify. She scrambled to find a sitter and get there asap. A DV advocate who had worked with me was there for another hearing and on the spot, Cullen asked her to testify. It was completely haphazard. The judge even commented that Cullen was unprepared and offered to extend the protection order but stated that there had not been enough evidence presented by Cullen to justify a permanent order. I paid this woman a substantial amount and she failed to even show up with my file. It was an awful experience.

The very first conversation I had with this lady not just showed me a flicker of hope but also that I'm not as invisible as I feel. She has shown me that someone will listen and someone will hear you. I have no doubts in my mind that this lady will represent me to the capitol letter of her name as long as I show that I am worth fighting for. That 1 star review I read comes from anonymous... Seems like you were a coward afraid to fight for yourself or even let your name be known. I hope you learn and grow from this and make better decisions in the future.

Horrible representation used her for my divorce and she had her own agenda did not listen when I explained safety concerns regarding my ex and our child. Stated that I was not able to get back child support which was wrong. Did not advocate at all or give rebuttal arguements. Do not use her you would be better off representing yourself and saving money .

Kyle is highly knowledgeable, supportive, and knew exactly what needed to be done for my case within minutes of our phone conversation. He went above and beyond and helped me get the outcome I wanted. He was attentive, responsive, and most valuable of all, honest and trustworthy. I am immensely grateful for his excellent advice and tenacity throughout his representation. I HIGHLY recommend him!!!

Well not sure about other reviews about him. Told me a protection from abuse order was able to be "NOT CRIMINALY INFORECABLE" and told me to shut up (I'm the husband as I hired him for my wife) Judgeected him and informed him that yes it was! Second well he was supposed to fight child support but when he submitted the documents to the court he stated we did not contest anything! So now on top of 1600 to hire him to contest child support (which he didn't and went against our wishes I mean for crying out loud that's why we hired you Kyle!) We now have to fight yet again because he went against our wishes and did as he pleased a second time... Shame on us now. INCOMPETENT and has been reported to apporiate agencies. If I had it to do over I'd have hired someone else.

I had a horrible experience with this lawyer and I was not the only one. My best friend hired her to help with a divorce. My friends' husband disappeared for over 5 years and showed up after he found out that he could make a profit since their house gained value. He only paid $ 2000 for a lawyer and received 50% of all assets after being gone and not paying any bills for over 5 years. My friend got the same 50% and paid Patricia 3 times more. I hired her and never went to her office to discuss my case. She filed my divorce forms online which cost little fees but she charged thousands of dollars for a phone call. She does not care about her clients. I fired her and had to pay a high charge to get rid of her services. She is extremely unprofessional.

You'll notice that her ratings have only gone downhill in the more recent years, and this is not a coincidence. She worked on a case for my father-in-law back in 2015 and was exceptional in the courtroom. Based on her past performance, I used her for my child custody support hearing in 2020 and a landlord dispute around the same time, and she was nowhere near the same level of prepaid or willing to argue my points in the courtroom (I honestly think she didn't prepare until the morning of and it showed). She just didn't have any fight in her and was more interested in compromises even in the face of significant evidence in my favor. She will not look at your case until the day of court and still ask you questions that you clearly explained to her in email and other communications that she can reread. Oh, but don't worry, she will charge you for everything you send her, even though she clearly won't even read it during that time. In my child custody hearing the day before court, she asked me to send her all the relevant messages between me and my ex. I already sent them a month prior, and I highlighted the details I thought were important. I was charged for emailing her the month prior because it is "communication," then I got charged again for the same when I resent her the same emails. After hiring this attorney, I am almost $10,000 in debt, and she gave my ex everything her attorney asked for in court and did not (DID NOT!) put up any fight or present my side. I left the courtroom feeling like my side was completely unheard. I was just shocked by the whole thing and found it unbelievable. For how much she charges, you can find a better attorney.

She is a nightmare, she is an alcoholic who is incompetent and plays ball with the opposing attorneys. She will not have your interest in mind only billing you as much as possible. I had to fire her and file a complaint with the Colorado attorneys board. She sat on my case till the last minute which made it impossible for an applet level attorney to enter to fix what she let go because of her personal bias against me. It resulted in me losing custody of my children. She shouldn't have licensure to practice. Stay far away

Fred is very friendly, but that is where the positives end. I was referred to Mr. Newall by ARAG for a legal name change. We pay for legal services benefits so I thought, why not finally change my name after all these years using a nick name. Oh boy, was that a joke. What should have been a 15 minute conversation about what I needed turned into a full hour consult, but the majority of that conversation was about his cats. Including grainy pictures from a 20 year old flip phone. He really likes to chat about his family and life. I tried to chalk it up to him being a nice old man, but it kept getting worse. His office is a complete disaster; stacks upon stacks of files piled everywhere. And these weren't current cases he was working on; many of these had dates from the 1990's. He asked me the same questions multiple times. Simple things like my name; which he had written down. Even after several times of my telling him that I wanted to change my first name from Olivia to Leea, including the forms right in front of him, he still managed to get it backward. After I was finally able to get away and get out the door, I heard nothing for weeks. I finally called to check in and his secretary advised me I needed to complete paperwork I'd already done with Fred and pay a deposit. A deposit shouldn't have been needed since ARAG was covering it fully. His secretary explained it was for incidentals. We're talking a simple name change and I had to pay for court fees, background checks, etc. myself so what incidentals could there be? After more than two months with no movement from Fred, I finally just looked up the process and did the legal name change myself. It wasn't that hard and even with all the items I had to pay for myself even with an attorney(court filing, background check, fingerprints, etc), I got it done in two months for less than he wanted for a deposit! This guy was obviously good at one time, but he is well past his prime and is no longer a good lawyer. Save your money and do it yourself or hire a real attorney.

Attorneys are labeled as verbose, but Jeanne is able to cut to the chase to save you time and money. The cost fades in light of the value of all that she accomplished in my divorce. I had a spouse who wanted to create drama throughout the process; at one point of frustration I was told, “And don’t talk to your bulldog lawyer!” The team is seasoned and devoted in its roles and provide a consistent, calm and thorough process. My case was complicated, which included mediation and a consult with another attorney out of state. Jeanne is respected by colleagues in her field. Selling our home was necessary; the judge complimented her idea to use the proceeds for the sale to front load the amount of maintenance. If you can handle honesty about your case and are willing to do your part in the process, I highly recommend Jeanne!

So let me tell you something about my experience with Jeanne, and her staff. First off, I found them online, never even met her in person, as I am living in Washington. I didn't know what to expect, never been through a divorce. She let me know right up front, the worst case scenario, which I appreciated. She was always trying to get me to stop wasting my money, calling her, worrying about things I couldn't control. She was very thorough, and direct. The day that I met her in person, was the day of my final divorce hearing. I was expecting the worse, and hoping for the best. The way she takes control of the court room, AMAZING!!!!!! I actually felt bad for my ex wife having to be cross examined by Jeanne. If you want someone, who will tell you how it is, and will fight for you, JEANNE should be YOUR TOP CHOICE.....She went above and beyond, and was VERY successful regarding the outcome of the case. Thank you so very much Jeanne!!!! Sean

There have been plenty of times they out this year n two months where I would not get a response from anyone in the office.. I've called from my phone they didn't answer I call from a co workers phone and all of a sudden they answer. Plenty of times I could not get them in the phone calling 10 times I've showed up at the Office called the phone and listen to the phone ring from outside the door. I'd knock on the door and they answered surprised it was me . I paid my retainer in February of 2018 and every month I was suppose to receive a statement of the transactions they for the month and it would state what they used money for and when. I NEVER RECEIVED A SINGLE ONE ! And now that my court case is closed I've contacted them several time to get the remaining balance of my account /how much money I have left ... It's been two months and haven't Hurd a thing from there office! Extremely unprofessional in every aspect ! I do not recommend steer far away from these people .

Mrs. James saved me from an almost total disaster. I started with one attorney who could only say we will make it up at final and when I found Mrs. James, she had an uphill battle to straighten out what the first attorney did and then proceed to save me not only time but money. Thank you Mrs. James.

Jennifer B James was worthless in helping to assist me and my 2 children with a good outcome in the court system. If I could give negative stars then I would. It was made very clear to this lawyer that the other parent was currently using drugs and alcohol (she is the one that told me he had an upcoming date for his 3rd DUI), and that he did not have a suitable place for the children to stay while they were with him. It was documented that he was not using his time of 2 weekends a month prior to court, however, Jennifer thought it would be a grand idea to give him even more time than what he already had, even though I was trying to give him less time or supervised visits for the safety of my children. She also assured me that she would file the child support documents required for my children to receive an increased amount and I just got off the phone with child support registry and NOTHING was filed with them. My case was closed 6 months ago!!! More than enough time for her to file some papers. I have asked her and her husband (her paralegal) multiple times for my ending statement because I felt like I should have some of my retainer coming back to me and I am consistently blown off. Emails are not returned, and voicemails go unanswered. This whole experience has done nothing but hurt my children and put them both in harm's way. I only spent the money on a lawyer to help assure that I would have the best possible outcomes for my children, but instead I feel like I paid someone to assist an abusive alcoholic and hold his hand throughout the process and give him whatever he was asking for. I fully regret ever calling her office and I will be going back to court in the near future WITHOUT her terrible assistance.

For starters, his assistant is exceptionally forgetful. I had to send her the same information repeatedly despite the fact the information is right there in the files. That actually applies to Mr. Finlayson as well. Exceptionally forgetful and asked questions to which he already had the answers in the files. My adult children were in need of estate assistance and I hired Mr. Finlayson for them. After the initial visit with Mr. Finlayson the kids felt as though he was only dragging things out just to get more money. I'd like to add that just because I was paying for his services for my kids' case doesn't mean he should have been talking to me about their case. They are adults. I recommend you go elsewhere.

I am out of state, from the land of lawyers in the Washington DC metro area. I had great luck with Mark in Colorado Springs. I found him to be extremely perceptive and knowledgeable in elder law. he was very cordial and settled my father's nerves. He provided us with invaluable assistance and on short notice. Moreover, his fees were VERY affordable and reasonable. I can't speak highly enough for him. Anyone who rates this attorney at anything less than excellent must have a chip on their shoulder or had a bad case and they are now blaming the attorney for their own mess.

Greg claimed to have about thirty years of experience in divorce law, which is very concerning given the terrible advice he provided throughout the 8 months that he represented me. It became apparent that he didn't know what he was talking about, or I suppose it's possible that he just doesn't care about the outcome for his clients, so he says whatever he wants, it appears to have no relevance to him if his advice is accurate or not. He is extremely arrogant and gives a very confident first impression....don't be fooled! Do not use him, I can guarantee you will regret it and all the money you waste with him. You will just end up spending more money to find someone that really knows divorce law. I am not the least bit surprised to see that he has had disciplinary action taken against him. I wish like crazy that I had investigated him before I paid him literally thousands, to accomplish nothing. He is an insult to the legal professionals that really work hard to make sure they know their law and provide sound advise and representation to clients.

I hired Tammy through Marble Law-neither of which I would recommend. I paid $5000 for a RESPONSE to a petition of divorce. When it recently came time to do mediations-I was told by both marble and Tammy that the service was not included and was completely blindsided. When I talked to Tammy, she advised to talk to Marble. When I talked to Marble, they advised to talk to Tammy. I feel completely used, disregarded, and out of the loop in MY OWN case. I have been working with Tammy since June- Not once have I met her. She was difficult the entire time to get ahold of, her paralegal team was not friendly anytime I called, Tammy missed meetings, and wouldn't respond to me for almost WEEKS at a time. I went into her office one time to sign papers-and they didn't even have the correct address on google! So as a single mom, with her 4 year old, was sent to two different places. (small side note-but shows how irresponsible this office really was) To her credit, she tried to make it right once or twice, but it seemed that every time she would try to make it right, she would follow it up with another wrong pretty short there after-and I would be brought to tears from how upset I was again and again. I am disappointed in Tammy and her team, and am disappointed in Marble law. In my opinion, I would steer clear of both of them if you are seeking legal help-you won't find it here.

I am disappointed in Tammy and her team, and am disappointed in Marble law. In my opinion, I would steer clear of both of them if you are seeking legal help-you won't find it here.

Horrible horrible lawyer. She represented my mom in the middle of a complete nightmare scenario for our whole family. We are now seeing the impacts of her complete lack of fighting for my mom and it's awful. The amount of effort put into what she did for my mom was minimal, at best. I would never recommend her to anyone in need of a lawyer, ever. After a divorce, someone should be able to move on in an okay situation due to the fact that their lawyer made sure of that. There was so much that was overlooked. There was no attention to detail. There was no soul in the fight from this lawyer. Do not hire her. You'll regret it later when you're sitting there wondering why so much is still being taken from you or your loved one that should have been concrete and locked down after the divorce. If you're reading this, keep looking. This lawyer isn't where you should stop your search.

Had a consult at K&G with Jennifer. She was straight forward, nice, seemed understanding, and answered all my questions quickly. I was concerned that she was very young and had just recently graduated law school. As my case would likely be quite entailed, I simply didn't feel comfortable with someone so new representing me. My other concern was the office environment. I was greeted in the lobby by two dogs. One was massive. I want to say it was a Great Dane. The receptionist was no where to be found but I did hear laughter and people joking in one of the offices. When the receptionist did appear, I was a little taken back that jeans and a shirt were appropriate office attire. Jennifer was dressed similarly and had several visible tattoos. Again she was nice but had a less than professional appearance. While I understand this is a very small firm with only two full time attorneys, I simply didn't feel comfortable paying a couple hundred an hour for their services.

Engaging Cordell & Cordell, specifically with attorney Kevin Stoner, to navigate my divorce was a regrettable decision. My initial concern, a $50,000 request from my wife for only being married one year, morphed into a financially draining ordeal, leaving me out over $130,000. Expecting expert guidance, I found myself at the mercy of Cordell & Cordell's questionable tactics. Despite the simplicity of my case, they steered me away from an amicable settlement, opting instead to drag the process out, seemingly driven by a desire to maximize billing. The financial impact was staggering, with my expenses skyrocketing far beyond the initial request. It became evident that Cordell & Cordell prioritized their own financial gains over achieving a fair resolution for their clients. The decision to go to court was a grave mistake. Cordell & Cordell provided little to no defense arguments on my behalf, leaving me inadequately represented and vulnerable during proceedings. It was a clear indication that their primary concern lay in their fees, not in securing a favorable outcome for me. In summary, my experience with Cordell & Cordell and attorney Kevin Stoner was characterized by financial exploitation and inadequate representation. I strongly caution others against choosing this firm, especially if seeking a prompt and fair resolution, as their actions seemed more aligned with financial gains than genuine client care.

My initial attorney left to start his own practice rwo weeks into filing for my divorce. I was then assigned this clown by Cordell and Cordell! He did not listen to me at all! Did not take into account anything into account that I had to say. I was assaulted three times by my now ex-wife and nothing was done about it! In the end, I spent $30,000 for pass-through work from an idiot lawyer!

Kevin was always very prompt in handling any questions or concerns I may have. He worked to change the norm for our case by listening to my requests and submitting them to the court even though he wasn't sure they would be accepted by the judge. In our case I was awarded primary physical custody with decision making in case of an impasse along with child tax rights every year in lieu of lowered monthly child support.

We've filed 2 eviction ourselves & got dismissed. Someone referred Ken Davidson. He doesn't charge consultation or upfront fees so we decided to give a try. Ken & Samantha are quick to answer questions & filed fast too. We were dreading it'll be dismissed again but they got us the possession! The process was fast & painless, totally worth the money! Best part is, Ken will pick up the phone & answer your questions. Most other attorneys won't talk to you unless you pay first. I highly recommend them. If you have a bad tenant, go straight to Ken to save time & money.

Dealing with an extraordinary case of someone squatting, he is living in my home with myself and four others, he is not only squatting, he is harassing, terrorizing, and traumatizing the lives of five people. Someone else already refused to pay and left claiming they were constantly scared. It's been months, costing me thousands of dollars, and the money means nothing. This has been traumatic and It's happening to five people. This is cruel and unusual. He has done nothing extraordinary to help, just going through the steps, has taken over three months to get this processed, still planning on processing him for not paying, there will be no recourse for all the trauma, and now he just called me saying he needs to extend the trail again for personal reasons. Disgusting incompetence. I cannot believe this is even possible.

Hired this lawyer to collect a debt. 4 months later he has done nothing for the case. I even physically went to the assessors office to get documents that he needed to move forward and when I called him a couple weeks after I gave him the documents to see where he is. (BTW he has not called me once to update me because there is nothing to update when he hasn't done anything). He told me over the phone that his agency has only went down and collected the documents from the assessor. He implied that his agency did the traveling and paid the document fees. When I did that. Unreliable and Untrustworthy. Do not waste your time and money hiring.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
