I truly could not ask for a better lawyer, and this firm is a godsend. Pamela, the wonderful lady who answers the phone and I believe functions as a clerk/paralegal, is SO kind and empathetic every time I speak with her, I always end up smiling and feeling much better despite the circumstances.
The attorney himself, John Parker, is a genuinely good person. I can remember when my youngest son started to get in trouble as soon as he turned 18 y.o. We dealt with one lawyer after another one, and they were not impressive. When we encountered Kevin , things changed in my son's life. He would listen to Kevin as Kevin always gave him good encouraging advise about life in general. My son looked up to him and begin to get in trouble less. I never forgot that and is to this day very grateful to Kevin Krause for his services. He was not only a lawyer but a genuine caring person. Short version:
***When working/talking with attorney John McNeil there was never any issue with feeling judged or discouraged. There was always timely communication, meetings, new information, and follow up’s post court dates. He responded to my questions and presented all information, leaving me without questions or concerns related to his knowledge and attention to each case.
I would highly recommend this office and their services.
Longer version:
Hiring a lawyer for someone when you’ve never been in any trouble yourself is daunting to say the least. Will the attorney judge the situation, client, myself? Will they take advantage of my ignorance and inexperience? How will I know if they are actually good or just like a ‘car salesman’?
The client had a very complex case with two current cases in Shelby county, a hold in MS, and then later complicated by a new hold and transfer for federal charges.
This wouldn’t be a 100% honest review if I didn’t admit it took a couple days to originally hear back from the office (I recommend using their online inquiry instead of calling, it seems the electronic paper trail works best); but in those couple of days calling around to many other attorneys some referred me back to this office while others seemed to be judgmental and discouraging (maybe trying to make me feel desperate for their services).

I'm a single dad and I sit here writing this in tears because of the realization of how grateful I am to Attorney Dowdy and her staff. I have been through so many false criminal accusations by the mother of my child who refuses to follow the custody court order that she and I have. I've been arrested more than 6 times on false police reports by my son's mother, have had CPS called on me multiple times by my son's mother, and I've had to deal with 4 orders of protection against me (going on 5) by my son's mother. All dismissed thanks to Attorney Dowdy. All of this done to me to try to keep me from seeing my son, bonding with him, protecting him, and providing for him because she wanted to pass my son off as another man's. My son's mother began doing all of this after I had her served with court papers so that I can meet my son for the first time and be a part of his life. Attorney Dowdy has been with me every step of the way and has stopped the orders of protections from destroying mine and my son's life. If it weren't for her putting in the time and energy each and every time fighting for me, my son wouldn't be able to see his daddy and share our fav meal of tacos together. Every time Attorney Dowdy goes in the courtroom she gives her all, shows how much she knows the law, and really puts up a fight for her clients. I've worked with lawyers who will take your money and either half help you in court or will outright fail you and have the nerve to ask for more money. Attorney Dowdy is NOT that kind of Attorney. Any money spent is well worth the money for her expert services! She ABSOLULTELY WILL FIGHT FOR YOU! Anyone, ESPECIALLY FATHERS, if you need a lawyer who will have your back and fight hard for you and your little ones......CHOOSE ATTORNEY DOWDY! I promise you won't regret it. My case was just finalized yesterday Dec.5,2018. It was custody based. Anyway, Mrs. Walls truly fulfilled every promise advertised and more. She was available when I needed and I know I was probably very worrisome at times she but remained a comfortable level of professionalism. Just to be clear, she wasn't overly professional or just telling what I want to hear either. Her knowledge of the law was motivation for me to read and get my own understanding. Throughout the process, Mrs. Walls continuously reassured me as well as helped me maintain a level head when I doubted myself. Mr.Black is quite possibly one of the smartest individuals I've ever met. His knowledge of the law and how it all works is incredibly impressive. He is so well versed that he can quote case law and Supreme Court cases off the top of his head. He also does a great job of explaining to you how everything will work in terms that can actually be understood by someone who doesn't know how legal proceedings work.
I wish I had hired him first. I made the mistake of hiring two other attorneys before I hired Mr. Black. They provided me with incorrect information and did not know how processes actually worked. Mr.Black corrected all the misconceptions that had been planted by my previous attorneys and explained to me a clear path forward in my case.
Divorce is difficult no matter how you slice it. Mr.Black did a wonderful job during case preparation, depositions, and court filings. Mr.Black did such a wonderful job of deposing witnesses that the picture he painted was so clear the other side only had a few questions to ask after he was done. He very politely paints a vivid picture with his strategically asked questions and leaves nothing to doubt when he is done.
In addition to his exceptional level of knowledge and expertise in depositions and case preparation, he also works tirelessly and around the clock to ensure you are cared for and every little detail about your case is perfectly planned. Mr.Black would respond to emails at all hours of the night, on weekends, and even on vacation. I would have never imagined an attorney existed who would be so dedicated. He is absolutely incredible!
Mr. Black was also willing to work with me to help keep my costs down. Instead of having his paralegal prepare a summary or some other non-legal task, I asked if I could prepare the documents since I am well versed in the use of Excel and other software. There were various non-legal documents that he let me prepare, which he would review and revise if necessary. This resulted in my only being charged for a small portion of the document preparation instead of the many hours it would have cost for his paralegal to prepare the entire document.
Mr.Black also managed to negotiate with my spouse and his attorney which proved impossible for my other two attorneys. I really wish I had hired Mr.Black from the beginning. My other two attorneys made huge costly mistakes in my case. I wish I had known about Mr.Black when I filed. His expertise is unmatched and he is incredibly intelligent and thorough. Don't make the same mistakes I did. Hire Mr.Black from the beginning to ensure you are in good hands. Divorce is not a time for uncertainty. Mr.Black provided me with solid advice and did a great job of handling my ex and his impossible attorney.

My daughter was involved in a two-car head on collision accident. After the initial scare about her health, I was not too concerned about the legal aspects until I found out that the other driver's family was planning to sue even though the police report supported that the other driver was at fault. I decided that we needed a good lawyer on our side. My friend recommended Steve Black who represented her in a divorce settlement and I thought that he could recommend a personal injury lawyer. It turns out that Steve has done a lot of personal injury cases but does not advertise this component of his expertise. He was very impressive during our first interview, asking pertinent questions, providing thoughtful analysis of the circumstances, and recommending various plans of actions. I hired him on the spot even after he recommended talking to other lawyers before making a decision (a big plus for hiring in my mind). We have been extremely happy with his thorough preparation, accurate predictions of the likely responses and ultimate outcomes of the participants, amazing patience (my daughter is not well organized), and the successful conclusion of our case - maximum settlement in our favor. I give my strongest recommendation for hiring Steve Black in a personal injury case.

A merchant I tried doing business with in Tennessee refused to return a down payment on a dump truck that I decided not to purchase after a detailed inspection. Since she had never been arrested before he was able to work with the prosecutor and allow her to attend anti-theft classes which enabled her to have this minor charge expunged from her record. Without this expungement, she would not have been able to get the job she had been wanting for some time. Mr. Kim helped to ease our fears through this whole process and without his help, she might have been held back in life. I was blindsided being served by my longtime landlord, who called me friend. He had often bragged about his great joy in evicting tenants, but we always paid on time and were his "favorites".
