Andrew represented us in a rather hostile grandparent's rights dispute. We found Andrew after trying our luck with a flashy, expensive local firm and being handed a first year, inexperienced lawyer. We were feeling defeated and as parents astonished by the outcome. Andrew and his firm were a breath of fresh air. Andrew is experienced in all aspects of the law, professional, honest and above all calming. We were told up front the expense for his representation. We were pleasantly surprised to find he was reasonable as well as knowledgeable ! I had no issue reaching Andrew when we needed him via his personal cell phone or e-mail. The moment he entered the court room, his confidence and experience were evident and the outcome exceeded our expectations. I would recommend Andrew and his firm to anyone and without hesitation.

She has provided a positive experience to someone who has no faith in the Judicial system. To the point; with no sugar coating. She was very quick to respond and answered all questions I had in a timely thorough fashion; without making me feel ignorant to the legal jargon. She remained professional yet personable. Would recommend her for any legal concerns.

Mr. Schiffman fought and is fighting tooth and nail for my wife and family after she was run over by a distracted driver. He does not give up and we owe him more than just a fee for how hard he has fought for us. If you want the best, Mr. Schiffman is just that.

Myself and my family couldn't be happier with the way Mr Davis has handled our case. If It wouldn't have been for him we would not have recovered a dollar of what we were owed. If you are looking for a no nonsense, big league, stand up guy that's willing to defend your rights, do yourself a big favor and consider calling him for your Insurance needs. You will not regret It.

Represents me currently. Was willing to communicate and strongly consider and act upon my advice. Filed the motions that I instructed him to. Was very effective during plea negotiation and obtained the correct plea offer from the commonwealth due to his motion for suppression of physical evidence due to lack of jurisdiction. Also, was able to get a hearing before judge Jeffrey A. Manning regarding my bail an probation detainer. Judge lifted detainer and allowed me to return home on electronic monitoring. This guy does his job. Judge Manning was attentive and not falling for the commonwealth's lies.

First I would like to give a huge Thank You to lawyer Chris Spina and his staff for winning my case in family court that guaranteed me partial custody of my 18 month old grandson. He deserves to be highly recognized for the job he did on my behalf. He is a spectacular attorney, who came prepared to win. He really outshined the moniker of super lawyer. In hiring Chris I found him to be a great listener, who was extremely knowledgeable of the law, while being easy to understand and communicate with. Not to mention he came well prepared for court and his ability to argue and negotiate were unsurpassed. If your looking to hire attorney you can be confident in hiring Chris he really is fantastic.

I can't say enough good things about Dan McIntyre, an attorney in Pittsburgh PA. He helped me stay as calm as possible while the judge questioned me, and that wasn't easy to do. I was really upset and emotional because I shouldn't have had to go to court in the first place! I hate it when I get wrongly accused of anything, and this time was no different. But Dan McIntyre put everything in perspective and we got more out of the dirtbag that took me to court than I had expected. In fact, I was actually glad for the experience in the long run - and I never thought I would say that! Dan was well-prepared, and you could tell that he's handled cases like mine before. I know there are no guarantees whenever anyone goes into court, even if you're the "injured party" but I was definitely pleased with the outcome. I'd recommend Dan McIntyre to anyone who needs an experienced attorney that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to represent you. His fees are reasonable and he doesn't nickle and dime you. I'll hire him again if I have to go into court for anything else.

I found Dan via the Bar referral service. He was professional, albeit a bit green at the time ( 5 years ago). He managed to get what would have been a nearly life ending number of criminal charges bargened way down, and the remainder resolved via ARD and a reasonable bit of community service. All in all I couldn't be be happier with the outcome and the fact that everything was later expunged.

Emily was very well prepared and provided an adequate defense in a matter before Hon. Joseph Williams, III. No matter of the outcome, she exhibited the type of lawyering that she was trained well from her law school of choice. I could not had been more pleased. The tenacity, focus, determination, dedication despite the constraints at her previous employer, still proved she was a true advocate for fairness, equality, and even-handed justice.

Anthony was instrumental in resolving my incredibly high Allegheny County Property Reassessment. He is extremely knowledgeable about the Allegheny County property assessment appeals process, which made my life so much easier. My property had almost doubled in value and thanks to Anthony’s diligence and attention to detail, my property was revalued at a very reasonable number. He is a consummate professional and very service-oriented. You could not ask for a better attorney if you have a problem with property reassessments. He clearly went above and beyond in my case and I would highly recommend him.

Kim is a very good DUI defense attorney (and is proven in other areas of criminal defense, but he concentrates solely on DUIs now I believe). I hired Kim for two DUI cases. One case was ultimately dismissed and the other case he negotiated a future employment killing felony reduced to a lesser charge. Kim interacts very well with police officers, district attorneys, and judges. They all seem to like him(save a particular judge and PA state trooper, see below). This is very important, because if the key players do not like your attorney, a case could be drawn out for a longer time and lead to a unfavourable outcome no matter how strong your case is. He is very honest. He won't promise you the moon. He will lay out the options, but he will be honest that he can't predict what will ultimately happen. He told me he won't go in front of a particular judge if they get assigned my case because that judge does not like him (because he had one of their rulings overturned in the superior courts). A state cop in one of the cases didn't like him because he was actually doing what I hired him to do to fight my case (I think many cops are just used to people pleading guilty or taking a plea agreement in DUIs and get angry when defendants fight the case). We ultimately won that case. Kim is always on top of current DUI case law. Numerous times sitting with him waiting for hearings he mentioned very recent case law that may help or hurt my case. Bottom line: If you are charged with a DUI in the Pittsburgh area and want the best chance to fight the charge, you hire Kim Riester. He charges by the hour, and he is not cheap, but he gives you the best chance to win a DUI case in PA. And on top of being a great defense attorney, he is also a nice down to earth guy (which you will appreciate when you are facing the uncertainty of the criminal justice system).

Patti is an amazing lawyer, mediator and person! I am so glad that I found Patti when my husband and I decided to end our marriage. I had no idea what to expect when hiring an attorney to end our fifteen year marriage. She made the entire process as stress-free as possible. She was a calm voice or reason when I was ready to give up. I am very happy that my husband and I decided on a collaborative divorce and I am even happier that I chose Patti to represent me.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
