Before we met Richard, we had nothing in order -- a very very outdated will (somewhere) that didn't reflect a single aspect of our current life, kids, home, investment property, business etc. After meeting Richard, we have peace of mind! We have a living trust, will, designated guardian for our daughter, person to make medical decisions if we can't, signed docs giving us power to make medical decisions for each other, on and on. We have an enormous binder with all these documents including extremely detailed and helpful information for our next of kin and executor, should something happen to us. Richard and his team make this very straight forward and easy. They kept stressing that we can call any time with questions (no charge) and in 3 years we'll sit for a review of it all (free). This was painless.

The only thing worse than a custody battle is a custody battle throughout Covid. The courts were a nightmare and the process was so broken. With all of that said, Jonathan Corey guided me through it with poise, grace, patience, and professionalism. Without his guidance I cannot imagine how I would have gotten through it all. I am careful with money, and lawyers are expensive. I brought Mr. Perriquey a seemingly complex set of documents for review. Lake took the time to make me understand his informed opinion. I had an issue with my landlord regarding the term of my lease- landlord insisted it was for 1 year fixed term, I thought I had signed a month to month agreement. They said I would be responsible for the remaining rent of the lease, over $5k. After reading some great reviews about Dan, I reached out and he responded within an hour. He got me in for a consultation the next day where he looked over my contact and let me know I had a great chance of getting out of the lease without having to pay any penalty. He suggested that a letter to the landlord detailing why I am not responsible for the confusion or the remaining rent payments would be the best course of action. Through further research, he was also able to determine some particular factors in my situation that have me leverage and alluded to those in the letter. He even put in a demand for reimbursement of my legal fees! The landlord called me back the next day and apologized saying that they would sign the mutual release he drafted and the matter was finished within just a few days! Start to finish, Dan was extremely professional. He followed up promptly, laid out his fees clearly, and even credited the consultation cost toward that of writing the letter. His pricing was extremely reasonable, but I won't end up paying for it because Dan had the savvy to pass it off to my landlord! I cannot recommend Dan highly enough if you are in a tough legal situation- especially in a tenant/landlord disagreement.

I have been involved in a very challenging case with very significant mental health problems of the other parent that, unfortunately, continue to impact the life of a child.
I was initially referred to Mr. Newsom from a friend and was a bit hesitant at first with all of the attorneys I met with. Upon meeting Mr. Newsom and discussing our case, I quickly found that he was there for the right reasons and was vastly skilled in areas that I needed the most support in.
He is able to keep a level head in very challenging situations which, in turn, allows him to see the big picture to not only focus on immediate needs but also the 'long game'. He is incredibly skilled in drafting responses and documents as well as seeing areas that you, the client, may need to improve and will direct you to appropriate coaching or resources that will benefit your family and, most importantly, your child. I am so appreciative of the excellent help, competency, and kindness I received from Michael O'Brien and Ted Piteo!
I spoke with 7 bankruptcy firms, and because of my particular type of debt and amount of assets I have, none of them had a solution that helped me out - I was very worried about financial hardship without bankruptcy. Finally, I found O’Brien and Associates, and they were the only firm in the entire state of Oregon that had first-hand experience with a new part of the Chapter 11 code (subchapter V) – this is the route we took to succeed in my bankruptcy.
I worked with both of the firm’s attorneys, Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Piteo. They are both highly qualified and competent, with complementary strengths that make them an excellent and formidable team. They are just honest, good people – I’d enjoy having them as neighbors!
Both Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Piteo have a high degree of integrity, and I trust them both. For example, at one point, I understood Mr. O’Brien to have made a billing commitment, and when I saw something that seemed to not match that commitment, I called him up and we worked it out in a mutually acceptable, reasonable way that left me trusting him more.
My case was moderately complex (at least for a small business owner such as myself), and both Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Piteo did an excellent job of assessing potential weaknesses in my case and explaining potential outcomes, so I always felt secure knowing what potential pitfalls might come and how to deal with them.
Mr. O’Brien did high-quality and skillfully-nuanced settlement negotiations with one of my creditors (my ex-wife).
Mr. Piteo represented me during the pendency of my case in bankruptcy court. He did an excellent job of negotiating with one of my creditors to ease the way to getting my plan confirmed. He also was timely with answering my questions, and allaying my concerns by providing me with honest, accurate information. An added bonus is that Mr. Piteo is lively and fun, which made the entire process easier to handle, and I even enjoyed it!
Mr. Piteo did such an excellent job of litigating my case in bankruptcy court, to the point that the judge gave her ruling at the end of the hearing, and we won everything we proposed in the Chapter 11 reorganization plan. He also did an excellent job preparing me to testify, both with specific questions he’d ask me, and how to handle combative questions from my ex-wife’s lawyer.
I am so relieved I found O’Brien and Associates, that I could trust them, and I am very grateful for their great care, competence, and help in my 100% successful bankruptcy case. They delivered as they said they would, without surprises, and I highly recommend them.

My experience working with Joel has been unlike any I have ever had with another attorney. Even when I referred Joel to another friend who was going through a similar situation on employment law, my friend thought I couldn't possibly be talking about an attorney behaving in this way. Joel was unbelievably thoughtful from the beginning and really took my situation into consideration and gave me the potential outcomes and outlined what kind of personal exposure and was in no way trying to get me to select the route that would lead to more hours and in turn more fees for him. It established trust from the onset and he retained that trust through the duration of my experience with him by keeping me up to date on hours used, costs incurred, etc. Joel was also one of the most fair attorney's I've ever seen from a rate perspective. I had been been in car accident where the driver was under insured and I had to make claim against my uninsured motorist coverage. After having had unpleasant consults with other lawyers who couldn't seem to wrap their heads around the idea that two women might be married and getting a divorce, it was important to me to find a lawyer who understood the queer community and London was that lawyer. She handled my divorce case and was indispensable in helping me get my kids back after my ex absconded with them and filed a baseless restraining order to prevent me from seeing them for more than a few hours a month under close supervision. She skillfully litigated the restraining order matter, even getting my ex to testify that she had no actual concerns about me that would warrant the order's restrictions. We were able to get a 50/50 parenting plan agreed to within a couple days of a judge dismissing the entire restraining order. As my ex continued to throw up roadblocks to avoid the even split we'd talked about, London was able to handle all of them
and her priority was always ensuring equity and the wellbeing of my kids rather than resorting to petty tactics or advising that we respond to my ex's roadblocks with escalation. We were able to settle and avoid going to trial, but I know that if we had ended up going to trial, I would have been in good hands.

From my initial phone conference with London through the whole daunting divorce process, I felt heard and supported. London told me more than once that she was my advocate, and she followed through with that. She supported me in my decisions after presenting all legal angles and possible outcomes. When I got into my car accident, I was in a very intense transitional period. I had just moved back to Portland, staying in an Airbnb, and was on my way to interview for my dream job. tldr: I was fortunate to hire Rich mid-case and got the best possible legal outcome (charges dropped and expunged) combined with a DUI attorney and support-office who really helped reduce the anxiety associated with fighting the charge. Had my case gone to trial, I know Rich would have won, but I am also sure his reputation is a big part of the reason the prosecutor/police didn't go to trial.
My case was a low-blow DUII (0.06 at the station). I made aggravating mistakes by talking/lying to the police (don't ever talk to the police) and performing the field sobriety tests (a mixed bag). I had some good facts going for me, but DUII isn't a charge most police or prosecutors will let go.
A few words on DUII charges in Oregon. There is no plea bargaining, so hiring a paper pusher or negotiator won't do it. If charges are not dropped, there is only diversion or going to trial. The law is tilted to make trial difficult for the defense. Most people will have to plead guilty and the state knows this. If you want to avoid charges or go to court you need some good facts and a lawyer who is formidable and known in the courtroom for DUII trial defense. You want someone who relishes the idea of arguing your case or a case like it every day, winning, getting better, and then arguing the same points next year. This is Rich.
I had a non-specialist lawyer representing me after my arrest, but I had grown uncomfortable enough that when I was finally charged, I auditioned Rich (after reading much of his great advice on Avvo). During the initial consultation Rich gave me a preview of how he would try the case on my behalf and it was decisive and convincing. After re-discussing strategy with my original lawyer, I realized I had to switch to Rich if I wanted to fight.
The Oberdorfer Law office handled the case transfer with the utmost kindness and professionalism. Rich outlined the overall trial strategy and developed several new prongs of attack as we got closer. Rich read every long anxious treatise and theory I sent him about my case and responded quickly and firmly to put me back on track. He was experienced enough to tell me why we shouldn't litigate every detail in front of the judge and jury even when it seemed like those details should have been minor points in our favor.
Rich drove out to my town twice to represent me in court as the case moved towards trial. He drafted and consulted with me on several legal motions which he entertained filing but which we ultimately decided to reserve until trial. At all steps he included me in the decision process and treated me with respect beyond what I earned. I was not a perfect client, but I could not have dreamed of a more perfect lawyer.
The end was interesting. We thought we had a case we could win at trial and Rich had run various parts by me several times. The prosecution then scheduled a court date which the officer could not attend. This should have been embarassing for them, but there was an excuse. Then they conferred and scheduled another date with the court which the officer again said he could not attend. Rich carefully explained that we should lay low because prosecutor and police were laying the grounds for dismissing their own case with fingers pointed at each other (so as to have nobody to blame). This was exactly what happened and charges were dropped without prejudice before trial. They were never re-filed.
Would this remarkable set of events have happened without a trial lawyer of Rich's caliber and notoriety? I think the police officer and prosecutor would have found themselves able to read a calendar together.
Was Rich worth every penny I paid? Absolutely.
It was a long time to become eligible for expungement, but Rich and Rob handled it for me without additional charge.
I hope never to be in such a situation again, but I would hire Rich in a heartbeat if I was. I would recommend him for friends and family without hesitation.

I have been a trial attorney for over fifteen years. When I was injured in a car wreck, I looked carefully for an injury attorney who: a) would take away all of the hassle and stress of personally having to deal with claims adjusters and opposing counsel; b) would not only keep me informed on a regular basis of the status of my case, but proactively make sure I was doing all the things I needed to do on time; c) knew Personally Injury law thoroughly -- both substantively and with demonstrated litigation experience -- from the claims stage all the way through courtroom litigation; and, d) MOST IMPORTANTLY, one who was not afraid to seek the best possible outcome in my case aggressively. (I have been around enough attorneys to know that many are either afraid of litigation/trial, or they want to take the first or second counter offer from the other side because it's quick money in the bank.)
Elizabeth exceeded my expectations on all four of my requirements. I consider myself to be pretty on the ball with my to-do checklists, but sometimes when I slacked on sending in treatment reports to the firm, for example, she would email me personally reminding me to get a, b, or c done, and would also update me with that status of the case/negotiation so I always understood exactly where things were.
In addition, on our second settlement obtained (the UIM claim), Elizabeth was actually confident that she could get the other side to an even better number than she'd already negotiated. It was me who let her know that I trusted that she could, but that just for my peace of mind I wanted to settle at the good enough number she already obtained and move on with my life. She would have kept fighting, though, and with confidence.
I know another attorney who also retained her and came away also completely pleased with the communication and with the outcome.
