Richard Brister took on my lawsuit case after I had been issued a default judgement, after trying to manage this suit without a lawyer. He quickly assessed my situation and offered his recomendations and then began negotiating with plaintiffs lawyer. His thorough knowledge of the law and years of experience enabled him to reach a very fair settlement. I would highly recommend Richard Brister.

I've knowing Mr Easton for roughly 9 years now. I first hired him for a case that involved a hand full of serious charges that stemmed from a car dealer ship that I worked at. This was a very complex case that he actually plowed right through. The coolest thing I remember about that case while besides the fact that we walked away with a slap on the wrist - was when we walked outside just about every lawyer that was there approached Mr Easton like he was the godfather. The respect and honor these lawyers have for him is just astonishing. This guy is by far one of the top 5 lawyers in the state of NY!

Mike represented me in my divorce and subsequent custody matters. He is an amazing advocate for his clients rights in a system that otherwise only cares about due process. He is a trusted advisor and worked with me, not for me. I trust his judgement and have realized favorable outcomes where I have seen others not fare as well. mike is very compassionate and empathetic. He has my total confidence.

As CEO of a major nonprofit organization, I have consulted with Mr. McFadden on many occasions to ensure that my organization is in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Mr. McFadden always gives me well planned legal advise along with potential benefits, he also spell out consequences of non-action. As a result of my confidence in his experience and consultation, I have engaged his firm for my personal planning. Over the years, I have developed the utmost respect and confidence in his counsel. I seek him out whenever I am in need of legal advise.

Mr. Kalker represented me after years of fighting for worker's compensation in a pretty clear-cut case. OWCP took advantage of my lack of knowledge for the process, and turned down my claims citing technicalities, failure to establish various conclusions, and repeatedly sidestepping the evidence. They clearly did not care about the truth of the issue, and I began to understand that the directive OCWP gave their reviewers (with the exception of one fine fellow who unfortunately was not reviewing my case) was to try to deny claims as much as possible. It was infuriating, and anyone that has dealt with OWCP probably understands what I'm talking about. How can an honest person with an honest work accident and complete documentation be denied so stubbornly? I was at my wits' end, until I decided to do a East-Coast-wide search for a lawyer. Of the ones that turned up, I found Mr. Kalker, who was kind, caring, patient, and entirely effective. Within two months, Mr. Kalker coordinated the effort, rewrote my claim, and won my case. He explained to me why my claim had been rejected, and very sadly I realized that OWCP had been rejecting my claim because they knew I didn't know my legal options to fight back and damage them, so they saw me as a non-threat; it seems my story is pretty common among injury applicants. Very few times in my life has a stranger made such an incredible difference, and Mr. Kalker counts among the blessings I've been lucky enough to have. While he is quite a busy guy, I never felt like a number; he treated my case with respect and dedication, and was patient with my frayed emotions. I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Kalker. He was kind and honest to me about my injury situation and my chances of getting an approved claim, which was a breath of fresh air after dealing with OCWP. To be honest, I have never met a lawyer that I have liked, but Mr. Kalker is the one exception. God bless him for his good heart and his incredible competence.

Mr. DiMarco assisted me on title and closing issues with an apartment building last year in Arizona. His team found an issue with an encroaching wall from a neighboring property that the title company missed. They helped me through the rest of the closing process and were on top of everything. Mr. DiMarco was extremely professional and knowledgeable. I first sought him out when I found out he is a preferred attorney for one of the largest owners of Mobile Home Parks in the country, and I can see why. Looking forward to working with him again.

I consulted with a couple of attorneys before ultimately having Lisa Arrington and by far was the best decision I made. She helped me help my family when my father suffered a debilitating stroke and couldn't go back to work. She helped inform me and take the necessary steps to protect most of my Dads estate through Medicaid planning as well as getting him into a nursing home facility to get the best care he needed and deserved. Then just two short years after helping me with my Dad she helped our family again when my sister only 28 at the time was handed a grave diagnosis. She's not only a great attorney informing you and your family every step of the way but is compassionate of your individual circumstances. There isn't another attorney I'd use or recommend besides Lisa!!

This was a very stressful ,humbling and humiliating situation for me. Mr. Zimmerman's quiet, down to earth, warm and genuinely caring manner inspired my trust at our first meeting. He was patient and reassuring as he explained the process of defending my case. His confidence in his knowledge of the law pertaining to my situation was a great comfort. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think my case was legally very complex, but he seemed to understand that to me it was. He made sure I understood each step of the process and patiently answered my questions. I appreciated the efficiency of being able to communicate by e-mail. He's a nice guy that I hope I never need again!

Having spent 40 years as a business owner I have dealt with my share of attorneys, both on a business and personal level. I am happy to say that I’ve had good luck with the attorneys and have mostly good experiences. That being said, let me tell you this. Chris Enos is up there with the top 3 I’ve ever been involved with. I’ve recommended Chris to several of my friends and all have thanked me for the referral. Chris is fairly priced, doesn’t nickel dime you to death, is always there to answer a call, gets things done in a timely manner and most importantly is a deal maker, not a deal breaker. As for his areas of expertise, if he doesn’t feel he can give you 100% of what you need done, he will let you know up front. I would highly recommend Chris.

We hired Ed and BSK to handle a wrongful death case for our family. Ed was accessible, open to our input and a voice of reason through a protracted case which ended up being intertwined with a horribly managed criminal prosecution. Ed was there for us at every step to balance our objectives of seeking justice and holding other parties accountable in whatever manner we could. I never once felt that Ed's interests were anything other than aligned with my families.

I came to Mr. Greiner requesting his legal services in my land use case. I have yet to come across a more knowledgable, more professional, and more competent lawyer (and that's saying something). However, what stuck out the most was the moral character and down-to-earth nature that is so often lost in this business. He was intelligent but not pretentious, professional but not stoic, and personable but quite competent. He was able to settle for more than I had ever considered, and did so in quite a timely fashion. He has consistently been one of New York's "Best Lawyers" since 2008.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
